Book Description
The second edition of An Introduction to Efficiency and Productivity Analysis is designed to be a general introduction for those who wish to study efficiency and productivity analysis. The book provides an accessible, well-written introduction to the four principal methods involved: econometric estimation of average response models; index numbers, data envelopment analysis (DEA); and stochastic frontier analysis (SFA). For each method, a detailed introduction to the basic concepts is presented, numerical examples are provided, and some of the more important extensions to the basic methods are discussed. Of special interest is the systematic use of detailed empirical applications using real-world data throughout the book.
In recent years, there have been a number of excellent advance-level books published on performance measurement. This book, however, is the first systematic survey of performance measurement with the express purpose of introducing the field to a wide audience of students, researchers, and practitioners. Indeed, the 2 nd Edition maintains its uniqueness: (1) It is a well-written introduction to the field. (2) It outlines, discusses and compares the four principal methods for efficiency and productivity analysis in a well-motivated presentation. (3) It provides detailed advice on computer programs that can be used to implement these performance measurement methods. The book contains computer instructions and output listings for the SHAZAM, LIMDEP, TFPIP, DEAP and FRONTIER computer programs. More extensive listings of data and computer instruction files are available on the book's website: (www.uq.edu.au/economics/cepa/crob2005).

Wonderful intro & unique approach to documentation.......2002-03-26
First, the approach to ISO 9001:2000. The author clearly explains what ISO 9001 is and what to expect in the certification process. If you're new to ISO 9001 (or 9002 or 9003) then the comparison in Chapter 2 between the 1994 and 2000 versions can be safely skipped, but if your organization is already certified, or wish to move from 9002 or 9003 to 9001, then the explanation of the differences is extremely helpful. Chapters 3 through 8 are standard fare that you would expect to find in any book about ISO 9000-series. What sets this book apart is the clear writing and ease of finding information. If you've read other books on the subject you know how dry they can be. This book is as lively as the subject matter permits (believe me, *any* book on the subject is going to be ponderous reading).
Chapter 9, Transition Planning, stands out as among the most valuable in the book (or any book about ISO 9000 in my opinion) because it covers the make-of-break issues for achieving certification. As an Information Mapping practitioner I especially liked the discussion of documentation considerations. I've long been convinced that Information Mapping and quality documentation should be integrated. With respect to ISO 9001 there has been much reluctance on the part of companies pursuing registration to stray from the rather ugly standard format of quality documentation. I hope this book changes that because the approach that the author proposes will add value to the quality manual by making it easy to read by all levels in your company, while keeping it 'assessor friendly' for certification and re-certification purposes.

The essential guide to achieving complianceINDUSTRY'S GUIDE TO ISO 9000
For manufacturers to compete in today's highly competitive global marketplace, compliance with ISO 9000 standards has become a necessity. Industry's Guide to ISO 9000 offers industry practitioners a complete reference guide to achieving compliance as efficiently and painlessly as possible. It focuses on changes at the product development level and on the technical and managerial processes needed to implement them.
Introduces ISO 9000, including audits, documentation, and implementation
Astute manufacturers know that consumer behavior has changed drastically in recent years. They know that customers have become much more demanding; and that only high-quality products will survive in today's competitive marketplace. In the light of these developments, the set of guidelines known as ISO 9000 has emerged as a worldwide standard of quality and customer service.
To help manufacturers achieve compliance with these standards and, therefore, be able to compete globally, Industry's Guide to ISO 9000 offers a complete reference book for industry practitioners. It emphasizes technical and managerial processes, especially project management techniques, to implement changes at the product development level. Because personnel play a central role in the ISO 9000 standard, Industry's Guide to ISO 9000 focuses on people-related issues and shows how, with proper management, normally arduous procedures can be made easier for all concerned.
Key features of this exceptional book include:
This invaluable reference tool includes appendices with glossaries of international business and quality-related terms, units and measures conversion factors, and sources of further information on ISO 9000.
Practitioners in all functional areas of business and industry industrial and systems engineers, process engineers, designers, R&D managers, plant managers, production supervisors, manufacturing engineers, and quality engineers will find Industry's Guide to ISO 9000 an essential guide to professional success.
