4 out of 5 stars Excellent book for teaching business English to ESL students.......1998-11-16

With over 5 years of teaching experience to ESL students in Japan, this is the best business English teaching book I've found. Volume 1 starts off very basic, and implements excellent culture tips and role play. Volume 2 incorporates these features into an intermediate to advanced level.

Business guru Tom Peters has been recognized for his originality and perception since coauthoring one of the most influential management books of all time: 1982's In Search of Excellence. Now, in his seventh work, The Circle of Innovation: You Can't Shrink Your Way to Greatness, he presents a provocative new vision for prospering in the "permanent state of flux" ruling today's business world. By juxtaposing short text passages and bold graphic images, Peters simply but passionately offers his prescription--perpetual innovation--in a nontraditional manner intended to foster individual interpretation. --Howard Rothman

                      Book Description

In 1982, business guru Tom Peters co-authored In Search of Excellence, one of the most influential business guides of all time. More recently, through 400 seminars in 47 states and 22 countries, Peters reexamined, refined and reinvented his views on innovation--the #1 survival strategy, he asserts, for businesses of the next millennium.

The Circle of Innovation brings these seminars--and Peters' contagious passion--to the reader in a landmark book. Through bold graphics, astounding facts and figures, and quotes whose sources range from Émile Zola to Steve Jobs, Peters blows the lid off accepted management styles. Here is a book that will open your eyes to new ways of envisioning the challenges of today's world. Here, too, is a practical guide that will teach you how to:

                      - reverse the rising tide of product and service "commoditization" and foster uniqueness
                      - capitalize on the skyrocketing purchasing power of women

                      5 out of 5 stars Innovative!.......2006-06-02

Tom Peters does not only preach innovation, he lives it. This book is a prime example... its unique style and content make it a fast read, but the ideas presented stimulate many fresh thoughts that keep you thinking long after you finished reading the book.

                      Definitely worth reading...

4 out of 5 stars Provokes you into thinking differently.......2005-10-06

From the first page of the book 'till the last, you'll realize that Tom Peters (In Search of Excellence) is making you think differently. Pages are printed sideways, then normally, with extremely large type, then small type. Interspersed are ideas and facts that are thought provoking and sometimes, eye-opening. That's the point. Most of the ideas are applicable to building any type of successful business.

                      5 out of 5 stars Really Enjoyable.......2005-09-11

WARNING! This book is not for the die hard, stuffy, stereotypical management theorist. It is a innovative and easy to read look into the world of management "Tom Peters" style. What has now become a trade-mark writing style Peters uses a very personal style to get across some sensational ideas.

Even though it was written pre-dotcom bust AND it is almost 6 years old, a lot of the ideas are still very relevant.

Short, punchy and still very enlightening!

5 out of 5 stars WOW is right!!!.......2005-06-27

This outstanding book will either inspire you to try and fix your broken company management, or make you mad at the state of affairs at your company (or both). It is filled with examples of how things should be done, and most are applicable to any work environment. Everybody loves the Ritz-Carlton empowered maids story.

5 out of 5 stars Entrepreneurs --wake up & THINK.......2005-04-08

Peters is definitely one of my favorite authors. His insights on innovation offer me constant inspiration as I write my own newsletter - titled Byvation, which means ... By Way of Innovation.

In a dramatic opening, Tom Peters says it's all about "I-N-N-O-V-A-T-I-O-N." Peters is a legendary business guru for good reason, he tells it like it is. In "Circle of Innovation" Peters talks about how our world is now in a constant state of flux, and to prosper businesses must wake up and take action.

A very busy text, "The Circle of Innovation" contains hidden gems at every turn that may very well spell the difference between success and outright failure for your company.

Products and Services are quickly becoming commodities and being in a commodity business is a dangerous place to be. If you are to have any hope of success, you must offer a compelling reason for someone to do business with you and your company.

"The Circle of Innovation" offers tremendous insight on how to create compelling reasons for customers to do business with you. To keep us alert, limber, and ready for action, Peters provokes and cajoles his readers to THINK:

                      * We Are All Michelangelos: He shows how to transform every jobholder" into a full-fledged businessperson.

                      * All Value Comes from the Professional Services: Because ... "It all boils down to the expertise of people, masses of them, booking, in some cases, BILLIONS OF DOLLARS in revenues."

                      * The System is the Solution: How to build great systems - which go far beyond nuts and bolts.

                      * Create Waves of Lust: Quality is no longer an automatic advantage.

                      * Little Things Are the Only Things. As the Blight of Sameness encroaches on market after market, design is often the best tool for sustainable differentiation.

All in all, a great book that will make you question much of what you do. In doing so, you will create a much more powerful and long-lasting company.

                            Book Description

Penelle Chase and Jane Doan are convinced that multiage groups provide the ideal context for learning. In Full Circle they describe their classroom, discuss both the philosophy and practicality of multiage grouping, trace the history of the multiage concept, and illustrate how multiage principles have been adapted to address the needs of learners today.

Full Circle also includes others' perspectives which educators and parents can use as a background for implementing multiage programs to fit the needs of their own communities. A diverse group of practitioners from across the United States contributes chapters about their experiences with multiage education in various settings. The book concludes with an in-depth review of the literature on multiage groups.

This is a AIR FORCE INST OF TECH WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB OH SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A822524. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The Observe-Orient-Decide-Act (OODA) Loop ideas of Air Force Colonel John Boyd have impacted the Department of Defense (DoD), influenced military thought, paved the way for operational change, and helped to shape fighting doctrines. A wide variety of OODA Loop ideas and interpretations exist in the literature, but are unorganized and have not undergone holistic study to determine how Boyd's ideas have spread or changed over time. As such, this research analyzed a quarter century (1976-2003) sample of the OODA Loop literature to examine the diffusion and evolution of OODA Loop ideas since Boyd's original conceptualizations. This research used qualitative data analysis to examine OODA Loop ideas in light of innovation diffusion theory. Ideas from Boyd's original OODA Loop theories were compared and contrasted with subsequent literature instances to assess diffusion and evolution of OODA Loop ideas in the DoD. This research concluded with a proposed conceptual framework for collectively considering OODA Loop ideas.

                                          Book Description

Done correctly, Total Quality Management (TQM) will increase your profits and preserve your resources, make your customers and employees happy, and it is the ethical thing to do. The key, of course, is to do it right. Unfortunately, when quality efforts fail to fulfill their potential, business leaders begin to doubt the efficacy of making the pursuit of quality a primary organizational priority. The most consistent mistake: starting small and implementing only part of the plan. Examples of partial efforts ending in disappointment or disaster abound. As a result, the only thing "total" about TQM processes has been the level of frustration. Quality is Everybody's Business makes it possible for people at all levels of your organization to understand the underlying theory and the specific mechanics of continual improvement. In an easy-to-read style, the book shows you how to untangle seemingly complex theory into guidelines for everyday managing and leading. The authors provide a comprehensive presentation of the practical details and the reasoning behind defining, implementing, and maintaining a 100% employee involvement process. Taken as a whole, the articles presented in this book address the theory and the practice of TQM in an integrated manner. Once your customers experience quality, they will continue to look for the quality option. Done correctly, TQM can be defined and implemented in six-to-eight months - and that includes actively involving everyone on the payroll in the process and seeing positive bottom line results virtually immediately. Whether your organization has a TQM process in place or is just beginning to implement one, Quality is Everybody's Business gives you the tools to make it a complete quality process.
