BARE BONES INFO FOR A NEWBIE DOT.COM BOOKSELLER.......2007-01-25
SUZANNE PITNER HAS WRITTEN A BOOK THAT IS SOMEWHAT OVER PRICED AT $14.95, ESPECIALLY WHEN ADDING TO THAT THE COST OF SHIPPING. IN NO CHAPTER OR PARAGRAPH DOES SHE GO INTO MUCH DETAIL, ALTHOUGH THERE IS SUFFICIENT INFORMATION TO PUT THE WANNABE BOOKSELLER TO THINKING. ONE WOULD HAVE EXPECTED MORE GUIDANCE FROM A BOOK TITLED "YOUR GUIDE..."

The book is ok, if you have extra money to spend and you want to read all there is. But, I can not recommend it for Amazon or other sellers like Half or ABE, because it is totally outdated. It was probally a good starting book in it's time, as it was written in 2002. There are some other books much better written and much more content. I would not waste my money. Sorry!

The author gives sound financial advice on what to invest in so that when the quake that he feels will occur by the year 2000 occur you will be in a financial position to take the helm of our country economically speaking and become the next generation of Rockefellers Morgans and Astors!

Well I am a very successful investor and as a avid reader I am always fascinated at reading other writers spin on the world.
Penny Fortunes although it has missed the prediction of a mojor quake by 2000 it the quake did occur in the midwest east coast and California but not on the scale as predicted by the author.
Granted this may be an indication of some flakiness but who can honestly tell or predict such a thing.
I beliieve the author is right on the money and such an occurrence in todays financial climate along with an earth quake occurring in the midwest and east coast can and will be very devestating.
The person who gave the one star rating missed the point which from my understanding the author wants us to be prepared for the worse with proper insurance and hope for the best for the quake is not a matter of if but when. as far as the interest rate issue how stupid and ignorant can the person be who gave the one star rating. the author was simply trying to give the reader an indication as to what to invest in when democrats are in office and when republicans are in office and the author has made it very clear as to what to invest in during these political shifts and that democrats have been the party of more welfare for the poor rather than more pull yourself up by the bootstrap republican.
Such dynamism has been evident of both parties and as a history buff the republican party has been a benefit economically than the democratic party.
I would give penny fortunes ten stars if i could it had 2 stocks in the investment part of the book that I invested in that have gone up 500% and 1300 % or 5 times and 13 times my original investmnent and they were stock symbols aplx and isco respectively.
So the one star rater should pay more attention and you will be more successful in life than to pour salt on someone!

Inaccurate, unsound, misguided.......2000-04-05
Isreal's predictions were inaccurate, his understanding of financial growth is misguided, and his advice is unsound.
Isreal states that the DJI 10,000 by year 2000 would be caused by inflation rates of 25% -- not a very accurate prediction. He also stated that the California earthquake would definitely occur before 2000.
Israel equates inflation with growth. Inflation is not growth because, while it gives you more money, you can't buy more with it. He also talks about two kinds of economic climates: low inflation with high interest rates, and high inflation with low interest rates. But interest rates rise and fall with inflation because of simple market forces and the actions of the Fed.
On Page 1, Israel advises buying low priced stocks (those with a low price per share) rather than high priced stocks, because the same dollar-value increase in both stocks produces a vastly higher rate of return for the low priced stock. If you're amused by this kind of logic, then you'll enjoy this book.
I was annoyed by Isreal's tendency to make his points by using emphasis and repetition rather than clear reasoning. I was so dismayed by the poor logic and misguidance in the early part of the book that I was unable to heed the remainder, which deals with consequences of the coming earthquake -- a very interesting subject.
Isreal does have at least one good bit of advice, however: buy low, sell high. But if you want to learn more about investing, read "The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need" or "One Up On Wall Street".

I found that Penny Fortunes is a one of a kind book that really explains what the market is and more importantly what drives it as well.
