This book will help you pass the TASP!.......2003-03-27

I purchased this book in order to review the math section for the Tasp test. I was taking the Tasp in order to enter the alternative certification course for school teachers. Since I did not have Geometry in the past and couldn't remember quadratic equations, I needed some real help. I spent around 16 to 20 hours reviewing the information provided in this text and passed the tasp on my first attempt. I scored a 93% (280 out of 300 possible) on the math section, well above what was required to pass and that was my lowest score. I recommend this book to anyone preparing for this exam.

2 1/2 Stars really, Slighty better but not by much.......2002-10-16

...P>This book was slighty better then Barron's TASP guide. The math drills have answer keys to them ... and better explaintions for the math. But it's still very lacking in the math. I suggest getting a NON-TASP math study guide instead to help you.

The Reading and Writing Section of almost all books I have used are about the same all are very exceptable and useful. EXECEPT for the "Offical TASP study guide" which is just MEGA ALL AROUND BAD! ...
I myself am returning to school after 10 years. . ... If your college has it ask to take the ACCUPLACER TEST! It's easier and less costly. ... ...
I give The Best Test Prepartion for the TASP study guide 2 1/2 stars, math section is slighty better but not by much.
I give Barrons TASP book 2 stars due to it's poor math section.

I passed the TASP.......2002-10-09

This study guide was a tremendous help and I credit it with giving me the tools to help me pass the TASP. One note: on the tope of page 152, there is a misprint in the example for (2). It should be the square root of 80 minus the square root of twenty , not the square root of 90 minus the square root of twenty.

I used this book to study for the MTEL, the teacher exam in Massachusetts (they don't have their own study guides). The math section was VERY helpful. I did not need help in the other areas of the test, so I skimmed over it, but it was useful as well.

I passed the TASP first try with the help of this book.......2004-07-09

Well organized. The math portion contains a diagnostic test to help you know where to focus your studying; I found this extremely helpful. It also contained a practice test at the end of the book for all 3 test areas (math, reading and writing). By the way, the answers to the math practices in each topic are located at the end of each chapter. I returned to college after many years, then I too found the TASP test was required in order to enter the Texas teacher certification program. Well, best of luck to you!

Compared alot of TASP books read all my reviews.......2002-10-16

Over most of these TASP review books get 2 stars at most. I have ordered this Barron's book from here. The Reading and Writing sections of this book and in the other books I have bought and/or checked out from the libary are all about equal and will help you. The test questions themselves DO appear harder then the study guide question. Over ALL (repeat) ALL of the study guides I have used lack poorly in the math section! This Barron does not even give you the answer key to check your math answers for the drills in the math part!!! It does provide one for the two practice TEST within the book, but otherwise your left on your own to find your practice math answers. Why write a study with no answer key? Another book "The Best Test Prepartion for the TASP" study guide has better math examples overall, but it's still lacking. I suggest getting non TASP math books for study. I myself am returning to school after 10 years. I am not orginally from Texas so I am at the mercy of an awful state system. I feel this TASP test is a way for someone to just get extra money from the students and is a WASTE of time. If your college has it ask to take the ACCUPLACER TEST!!! It's easier and less costly. Also note only a simple 4 function calculator can only be used on the TASP!!! Scientific calcs are banned! (yet I can a sci calc while in school/class? Hmm does this not tell you they WANT you to screw this part up?) When was the last time the MAKERS of this test not use a sci calculator themselves? FIGHT THIS TASP TEST! Write the money hungry makers of it and tell them it's BULL!!!!!

Not many practice tests.......2001-08-23

This book is well organized. You will not find any difficulty to study it by yourself. However, it just contains 2 full length tests only, it is not enough for those who have never had the TASP before.

You have to buy another TASP book for more practice after buying this, in order to pass the exam.

Okay review - but not that great...........2001-03-06

After completeing college some time ago, I found I had to take the TASP test in order to enter a teacher education program in Texas. I hadn't done much math beyond balancing my checkbook for about 10 years, so I knew I needed a refresher on the quadratic formula. I bought this book, and really did it, but when I took the test I found much of the material I had prepared for was irrevelant, too easy, and generally just not on the test. The explanations were well written and a lot came back to me as I was studying, but in general, the questions on the actual test were more complex than this book led me to believe. The reading section also contained lengthy explanations on concepts that weren't even on the test. But I mean let's face it, the TASP isn't brain surgery - I hope I passed it anyway - but this book was only an okay preparation.

THIS BOOK WAS AN AWESOME CHOICE BY MY STEPFATHER. THIS BOOK HAS HELPED ME TO PREPARE FOR THIS TEST IN GREAT DETAIL. IT IS VERY THOROUGH AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND. I HAVE NOT USED ANY OF THIS MATH FOR ALMOST 9 YEARS, AND IT HAS MADE IT A LOT EASIER TO STUDY AND FRESHEN UP THE MIND. IF YOU ARE NEEDING A BOOK TO STUDY FOR THE TASP TEST, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE. IT HAS BEEN A GREAT HELP WITH IT'S EASY TO UNDERSTAND EXPLANATIONS AND EXAMPLES. IT COVERS ALL OF THE BASES. IT ALSO HELPS YOU BY LETTING YOU KNOW KIND OF WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE TASP TEST. TELLS YOU ABOUT HOW THEY DO THE SCORING AND WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE ON EACH SECTION TO PASS. THIS IS A VERY INFORMATIVE BOOK AND I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Faulty CD.......2001-07-26

I teach a TASP remediation course, and in examining the CD that accompanies this book, I've found numerous questioning errors. Some of the questions do not correspond with the stories students are expected to read and comprehend.

TASP BOOK HELPED ME PREPARE.......2000-04-08

This book not only has helped me but it has made everything clear for me. I am ready to take this test. If any high school student is looking for some easy, helpful tips, and/or wants to pass the TASP then they should review this book. I guarentee that by reviewing the TASP book, anyone who takes this test will thank the people who had the effort to publish a book like this, because I rate this a 5 star. If I can pass this anyone else can do it. This test is the easiest you'll ever have. Although I haven't taken my real test yet I have confidence that I am going to accomplish the un-impossible here at San Benito High School. This book has made it real clear for me. That is why I want to thank the TASP for making a book .

Worth Every Penny!.......2002-12-10

I recently took the TASP test and I highly recommend this book. If you haven't written an essay in a while, or you've never been comfortable writing, this book is for you. I felt that this was going to be the hardest part for me on the TASP test and after working through only half of the material in this book and then taking the test, I received a PERFECT SCORE on the writing portion.

This book details the scoring methodology, and it gives information on each facet of the essay that will be evaluated (i.e., unity and focus, organization, effective sentences, etc.). The most valuable part was getting acquainted with what a perfect score essay looks like and there are many examples.

Buy this book. I don't think you'll regret it.
