Practice Tests Poor; Lessons Only Marginally Better.......2002-06-12
Three points:
1) The questions on the three practice tests provided on CD (or, more accurately, linked to by the CD) are NOT real GMAT questions.
2) About 60% of the questions on the second practice test were also on the first practice test (I didn't bother taking the third practice test).
3) The text lessons are only marginally more instructive.
GMAT CAT Success: Unsuccessful attempt at a book.......2002-06-02
I stare with digust at this book as I write its review. Thankfully, I didn't waste any money on it, but merely borrowed it from the library. Anyway, I would like to advise any prospective purchasers to steer clear! Buy a book by Kaplan or Princeton Review; you will be happy for having done so. I find the number of errors (both grammatical and logical) in this book to be totally unacceptable. Being a scholastic editor and therefore a grammar fiend, I can only wince as this book not only gives incorrect answers to sentence correction questions, but also justifies them through the use of bad grammar. This erroneous teaching is absolutely horrific, and I pound my head against the wall as I read it. Please take my advice and buy something else (a rock would probably be more helpful) to assist you in your GMAT studies.
No Stars Dont waste ur money.......2002-04-05
Awful and pathetic. Dont waste ur money. Ths book is not worth ur time. Outdated and nothing GMAT about it. ETS GMAC, Kaplan and Princeton Review are the best in the market.
Don't Buy this book!.......2001-10-12
This book is Awful....Its advice is not real helpful...more importantly many of its practise problems have mistakes (typos, answers C & E are identical, forgoten words etc.), its explanations are useless, and its answers are often wrong (They say things like: Answer is A. Statement I allows you to eliminate choices A & B. Statement II allows you to eliminated C & D. Answer is A.)
Buy the Kaplan book, by the official guide, download Powerprep....if you want more problems maybe buy Princeton Review...but NOT THIS BOOK!
Please do not waste your money.......2001-08-06
This book and cd will not do a thing for you. spend your money on Nova's gmat prep, princeton, and kaplan books and of course the official guide. Agreed that these are not perfect books but they complement each other and you are able to learn something from each of them. The peterson book will only aggravate you since the author doesn't seem to know much about gmat. The cd rom only takes you to their web site and you cannot work offline. Not that you would want to since the problems are nothing like the ones on the real gmat tests.

Customer Reviews:
Good explanatory book.......2003-03-01
I used this book for my psychological statistics course last semester. Although I have had teachers in the past who explained things more adequately, this book did a really good job explaining things for the most part. I almost always use examples to learn how to apply knowledge, as working through a problem step by step seems to be the best teacher to me. Fortunately, this book has a lot of examples. And, as a bonus, these examples apply towards the social sciences so you can see how everything fits in with a topic you're actually interested in (let's face it, few are interested in math).
I had already taken a statistics course in high school, so my stats class last year was pretty much a review for me. However, I wound up actually learning more than I planned to because of this book.
Overall, I recommend the book for anybody learning statistics.

Book Description
A proven performer designed for today’s psychology students, Fundamentals of Behavioral Statistics combines current thinking with a clear presentation designed to foster complete student understanding. A classic text that features a modern, student-oriented approach to studying behavioral statistics with an emphasis on accessibility and comprehensiveness, it is built on four tenants of success: a strong mathematical foundation, clear and interesting examples, rich illustrations and abundant exercises. The revision will continue to place great emphasis on introducing students to exploratory data analytic techniques by replacing outdated techniques with the latest, most up to date methods. Real life examples, used to present the most current approaches to teaching statistics, will be revised to incorporate results from popular and familiar experiments.
Customer Reviews:
Great to reach an understanding.......2007-09-23
Great for those trying to get the basic understanding of behavioral statistics. The wording is very plain and easy to understand, yet they also don't ramble. The index works well, and the appendices are highly useful.
Statistics.......2007-09-16
I am using this book for an online graduate statistics course, so there is little direction from a formal instructor. All of my information so far is from this book. It is easy to read and the examples are easy to follow. I would recommend this book to anyone who is beginning the journey into statistics...very helpful
Really good.......2003-12-01
A unique introductory book in statistics. The hallmark of this book is nodoubt the clarity of detailed explanations of fundamental statistical concepts. A lot of invaluable material and explanantions here not to be found in other textbooks on statistics!
Highlights that spring to my mind are the excellent treatments of averages, correlation and regression, and hypothesis testing. A very important topic (usually missing in most textbooks) is the strength of evidence in hypothesis and significiance testing and is treated very nicely in various parts of the books. This book should not be missed by beginners (and probably experts) in the field.

Book Description
Richard Lomax provides a conceptual, intuitive approach to the subject that requires only a rudimentary knowledge of basic algebra. Concepts are clearly stated and supported by real-life examples. Statistical Concepts features comprehensive coverage in a flexible format so instructors can pick and choose topics. It features topics not traditionally found in other textbooks, such as the layout of the data in ANOVA models, the ANOVA linear models, expected mean squares in ANOVA models, and stepwise regression. The book features a thorough and current discussion of assumptions, the effects of their violations, and how to deal with their violation.
This text is designed for a second or intermediate course in statistics for students in education and the behavioral sciences. It includes a number of regression and analysis of variance models, all subsumed under the general linear model (GLM). A prerequisite of introductory statistics (descriptive statistics through t-tests) is assumed.

Book Description
This book provides comprehensive coverage so that it can be used in a single- or two-course sequence in statistics. It provides greater flexibility because it contains many topics not dealt with in other introductory texts. Its conceptual, intuitive approach allows for concepts to be easily stated and related to real-life examples. Throughout the text the author demonstrates how many statistical concepts can be related to one another. Unlike other texts, this book includes the following topics:
* skewness and kurtosis measures;
* inferences about two dependent proportions and two independent means with unequal variances;
* homogeneity of variance tests;
* layout of the data in ANOVA models;
* the ANOVA linear model;
* a wide variety of multiple comparison procedures;
* significance tests in multiple linear regression; and
* extensive discussion of assumptions and how to deal with assumption violations.
Numerous tables and figures help illustrate concepts and present examples within the text. An extensive bibliography is included. A number of pedagogical devices are included to increase the reader's conceptual understanding of statistics: chapter outlines; list of key concepts for each chapter; chapter objectives; numerous realistic examples; summary tables of statistical assumptions; extensive references; and end of chapter conceptual and computational problems.
An
instructor's manual is available containing answers to all of the problems, as well as a collection of statistical humor designed to be an instructional aid.
This book is intended for introductory statistics courses for students in education and behavioral sciences.
Customer Reviews:
Do your students a favor..........2005-02-20
A good text should allow the student to learn without intense reinstruction from the professor. This book fails miserably at achieving such a result. So do your students a favor, choose another text unless you are interested in delivering vigorous (re)explanations of concepts supposedly laid out within this piece of trash.
