          Description:
This article provides an initial exploration of the impact of teachers' involvement with classroom-based research projects on their professional learning. Interviews with classroom teachers are used to explore their experiences of working with Graham Nuthall and his research teams, who focused on finding out how students' interactions with teaching events affected their learning. The aim was to investigate whether teacher involvement with research on and about their own classrooms contributed to their professional learning, changed their teaching practices, and made a difference to their professional career paths. This study draws on the literature around effective teacher learning and compares it with the impact of teacher involvement with the Nuthall classroom research projects.

                              3 out of 5 stars nothing special.......2007-10-05

Usual stats book, organized similarly to others. It incorporates use of excel templates via the chapters, problems and CD. Some are useful but some are cumbersome and the author puts too much emphasis on them as a tool. Some give an incorrect output. Found an error in a basic formula in the text, this should be corrected.
Overall is an average stats book and overpriced for its value.

2 out of 5 stars Paid for new book and doesnt seem like new.......2007-06-13

                              Hi there,

I paid around $ 140 for this book and i was expecting this to be a brand new book. I received this book today and looking along the top on every page, they look a bit discoloured.

Either this book is new and it was left in unclean surrounding OR this book is not new.

I am not being fussy about this book, this book is readable, it is just that after paying that kind of money for a book i was personally expect it to be brand new. The feel and smell of a new book is different, if you know what i mean.

I dont know how it works here on Amazon, but this is the first time, i was a little dissappointed especially when i was looking forward so much for this book.

Name of the book is - Complete business statistics by Amir D Aczel.

5 out of 5 stars "He wrote the book.".......2006-11-10

Dr. Jayavel Sounderpandian is my current professor at UW-Parkside for Business Statistics II (QM 211). He is an excellent instructor, and his book mirrors this.

In class, we always joke about how "he wrote the book."

                              3 out of 5 stars I really didnt have a choice..........2006-10-03

This was a text book for my class, so I really did not have a choice. There was alot of jibberjabbering exmaples. I am a start to the point person who like theory then applications, but this books places stuff all oevr the place.
I gave it three stars, since I have seen dmuch worse texts on Stats.

This really is a great book. Neely did a great job of breaking down the wave theory into a series of clear rules.

But be forewarned; it's not an easy read my any stretch of the imagination.

5 out of 5 stars Great historical reference.......2003-12-20

This is one of the 2 books that fills in all the details of Elliott Wave research and history in the time period between Elliott himself and today's Robert Prechter. The other book is the Elliott Wave Writings of A.J. Frost and Richard Russell.
In short, this book is a very necessary addition to any serious student of Elliott and Socionomics. It takes you through the history of great market calls as well as providing insight into how the knowledge of Elliott Wave has gotten to be where it is today.

                                  Book Description

In this book, the authors investigate structural aspects of no arbitrage pricing of contingent claims and applications of the general pricing theory in the context of incomplete markets. A quasi-closed form pricing equation in terms of artificial probabilities is derived for arbitrary payoff structures. Moreover, a comparison between continuous and discrete models is presented, highlighting the major similarities and key differences. As applications, two sources of market incompleteness are considered, namely stochastic volatility and stochastic liquidity. Firstly, the general theory discussed before is applied to the pricing of power options in a stochastic volatility model. Secondly, the issue of liquidity risk is considered by focusing on the aspect of how asset price dynamics are affected by the trading strategy of a large investor.

                                      Book Description

In modern financial practice, asset prices are modelled by means of stochastic processes, and continuous-time stochastic calculus thus plays a central role in financial modelling. This approach has its roots in the foundational work of the Nobel laureates Black, Scholes and Merton. Asset prices are further assumed to be rationalizable, that is, determined by equality of demand and supply on some market. This approach has its roots in the foundational work on General Equilibrium of the Nobel laureates Arrow and Debreu and in the work of McKenzie. This book has four parts. The first brings together a number of results from discrete-time models. The second develops stochastic continuous-time models for the valuation of financial assets (the Black-Scholes formula and its extensions), for optimal portfolio and consumption choice, and for obtaining the yield curve and pricing interest rate products. The third part recalls some concepts and results of general equilibrium theory, and applies this in financial markets. The last part is more advanced and tackles market incompleteness and the valuation of exotic options in a complete market.

                                      Book Description

If statistics intimidate you, if you don't know a standard deviation from a standard deduction, this book uses an almost-no-math approach to helping you understand and put together business reports. It is a step-by-step guide to choosing, using, and interpreting statistics for business. Instead of teaching you arithmetic, symbols, and calculations, it teaches you how to decide what data is necessary for a report.

                                      Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars This book's rating is "seasonally adjusted"..........2005-11-30

...which means it really should be a 1 star.

Let me explain the "seasonal adjustment". The other reviews are right -- the book was edited by a complete idiot. Questions that seem simple enough ["what are the odds of choosing three blue blocks in a row?"] become laughably obscure when suddenly the "explanation" involves things completely out of the blue, like references to "your opponent." Huh? My opponent? What does an opponent have to do with picking three blue blocks in a row?

Frankly, your only opponent here is the editor. While the first three chapters are simple and clear, by about chapter four, the editing goes completely off the rails. Its almost like the editor spliced two separate books together using his "merge documents" function in Word and couldn't be bothered to hire a temp to proof the result.

But my score is "seasonally adjusted" up to two stars because, despite everything, I actually learned something from it. If you want to know what about a dozen of the most common stats terms mean, (many of which on your Excel spreadsheet) then you can think of this book as one of those "tourists' foreign language phrase books", only instead of the foreign language being Italian or Russian, its stats.

After all, most of us just want to walk into our company's research department, and speak enough of the local stats patois to haggle for a monthly market analysis equivalent of a rug without being charged for a camel. The book skips the theory and the arcane symbols (mostly) and just cuts to the chase. Within a weekend you will know what the heck your boss is blathering about when she talks about a z-score, and, if she asks you to seasonally adjust sales figures, then this book can help.

In fact, if you're the sort of person who doesn't mind a challenge, and can live with only one out of three examples being where they are supposed to be, or heck, two plus two equalling whatever the editor had for breakfast, the challenge can even be fun.

But all others: stay VERY far away, and consider this rating a minus one.

                                      1 out of 5 stars True Outlier.......2004-06-11

This book was, without question, the worst math oriented book I have had the mispleasure of buying or reading. As mention in other reviews, the calculations are often off leading a reader who is reading for the purpose of developing concepts to waste substantial amounts of time. Since time is, among other things, money, this book is way to expensive, even if you were given your copy of it.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible!!!! Don't waste your $$$$.......2003-09-17

I bought the book in preparation for a collegiate stats class. The content wasn't neither accurate enough, complete enough, or well written enough to be of any benefit.

It is almost impossible for me to put into words how awful this book was. How can you learn statistics when the examples are wrong? You spend hours pondering the equations, only to realize they are errors from the author.

The author should either stick to topics they know, or stop churning these books out so fast that the quality resembles rotten eggs.

This was a rare book that inspired enough anger to write such a disparaging review.

1 out of 5 stars Too many Errors.......2003-05-29

In preparation for business school I thought I'd brush up on my stats. But this book is making things even more confusing because of all the errors. Graphs are misplaced, calculations are off, and equations are wrong in way too many places. I wonder how this was ever published with so many mistakes.
