This is a very good book. We used it in our large organization during our Spanish classes and the book was well received.

Good basic Spanish book.......2006-03-27

This books is a good book, but it's not a great book. The way the author chose to organize the book doesn't make sense. Some basic things that we should learn first are left until later, such as family and the names of each family member (ie. madre, padre, nino, nina, hermano, etc.). The book also has all these exercises that asks us questions and asks us to ask questions, but didn't really teach us how to ask questions. We doesn't get a formal introduction on how to use words like "Quien", "Donde", "Que", etc.

Positives of this book include: Vocabulary that is used in each chapter is usually listed in the beginning of each chapter, good and clear explanations of the grammar it does cover, and lots of exercises for practical practice.

Another quirk of this book is that it's written as if someone who's Espanol (Spain-ish) wrote it for an audience dealing with Mexicans. So, it would use vocabulary and tell us "cultural notes" that are not how Mexicans speak or write. My Spanish teacher has to tell us from time to time that certain vocabulary words are not used in Mexico and will give us the words that are used regularly. I was especially puzzled when the author put in a food menu with all the prices, dollars and cents, separated by a comma instead of a period.

Outside of a few quirks, the clarity and ease of understanding make this a good book for those learning Spanish for the first time or want a review if you haven't taken Spanish in a while. I would recommend this book.

Excellent Tool for Continuing Spanish Education.......2006-03-23

This book is very easy to work with and gives the reader the opportunity to pace themselves at their Spanish study. Exercises are thourough and answers are provied in the back of the book for those studying at home or for lesiure.

I only wish I had been able to acquire the most recent edition of the book.

A Teacher's Dream.......2005-11-30

I got this book as part of an adult education course I was teaching at a community college and, after having studied Spanish for years, this is the best text I have seen... period. It has all the basics covered, and covered well. It is thorough and concise. It does not go into a lot of unnecessary material, but sticks to what is necessary to communicate well. It consistently reinforces previous lessons and packs a tremendous amount of learning and exercise into a small amount of homework. The examples chosen are easily digested and make teaching wonderful. My students gave rave reviews of the material and I cannot recommmend it highly enough. As will all language texts, it is the student's responsibility to pack in the vocabulary on their own, but the base grammar is all here and extremely well presented. I would take an old edition of this book over any other new texts available. These are the best.

An excellent place to begin.......2001-04-16

Basic Spanish Grammar is an excellent starting point for one who wants to begin learning the spanish language, or is in need of a refresher course. I recently enrolled in a conversational spanish course and this book was one of the two texts used in class.

All of the exercises contained within the book are written in a clear manner which makes them easy to understand. Basic concepts which I hadn't thought of in about 15 years since my last spanish class came back very quickly and I was able to expand upon my previous knowledge at a much quicker pace than I would have thought possible.

The vocabulary is introduced in a logical manner, with examples that show just how they would be used in everyday speech. The sections dealing with the gender of words, plural forms, and definite and indefinite articles is very helpful for one who hasn't been previously introduced to the concepts.

As an aspiring entrepreneur, small-business owner, and avid student of business, I found the Entrepreneur's Success Kit to be much more practical and relevant to my business and own development than any other literature on entrepreneurship (or general business/management for that matter) I've come across. It's my belief that the Kit is possibly the best how-to start-up business book ever!

Not only is its in-a-box format compelling and easy to use, Kaleil Tuzman's style- throughout each page- is intelligent, concise, and right to the point. Furthermore, he is able to effectively simplify a wide array of complex topics in a way that's not only understandable, but actionable as well.

Additionally, the visuals are very well designed. Meanwhile, the advisers cards provide a great reference tool covering everything from creativity, to planning, to motivation; as well as start-up related topics including product or service development, business planning, team development, financing and financial management, sales and marketing, and more.

Finally, the CD's included provide an interactive tool to delve into the inner side of entrepreneurship (or the foundation of all entrepreneurial success).

This is a truly remarkable and inspiring product. My only regret is not having this product a few years ago in the early-stages of my entrepreneurial development.

I've now added a sixth book to my all-time favorite business books, namely Built to Last, Pour Your Heart into It, the Tipping Point, the E-Myth Revisited, and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

I became uncomfortable within the first 20 pages or so, mainly because he seemed to repeatedly say how great life was going to be without sex from now on (a sensitive subject for most of us mid-lifers, I think), but he failed to reassure me as to why. He just made some references about younger people being driven to reproduce, and that was not an issue for us now, and isn't that great. He then launched into a series of lists as part of an action plan for the future, but I still didn't feel "on board" with his point of view yet, and got frustrated very quickly. His book seems aimed at those who are willing to ride the wave of his enthusiasm without much questioning, and to jump right into planning and action. I found some of his writing to be composed of mixed metaphors and unclear paragraphs, which added to my feeling that this book had not been as well thought out as it could have been.

I'd noticed he made several references to Barbara Sher's "It's Only Too Late If You Don't Start Now." I decided to buy her book as well, and am getting much more out of it than this one. I find that Ms. Sher's book anticipates and thoroughly answers all of my questions and concerns about issues of age perception, biologically-based behavior at different life stages, sex, self worth and affirming one's unique gifts, and I'm only half way through.

2 days after receiving Ms. Sher's book, I threw this one away. If you want to understand what's happening at this time of your life, and come to feel really good about where you've been and where you're going, I recommend "It's Only Too Late If You Don't Start Now."

Author Gordon Burgett, a California freelance writer, derives the book's subtitle from statistics. Average life expectancy, which was 48 years in 1900, now is 78.

In Burgett's perception, people at midlife now tend to latch on to one of three views of where to go from here:

(1) No view at all; let fate be the guide.

(2) A quest to prolong youth, which could work for a while.

(3) A vision of self in the driver's seat on a road headed for adventure.

The author makes a good case for the latter, then assists the reader in assessing what he or she has today. The next step is deciding what to take on the next journey and what to leave behind.

Answering this question is designed to jump-start the planning process: "If you had all the money, time and energy you needed and were free from outside constraints, what would you do in your extra 30 years?

The book then walks readers through such steps as compiling a dream list, putting dreams to a commitment test and sorting them by priority and time frame. Couples are urged to figure out what dreams they do and don't have in common and how to proceed from there. Twenty-eight work sheets and forms provide a detailed structure for the process. The last two steps are factoring in financial resources and creating an action plan.

The book also lists 200 activities (they include classes, volunteer work and creative pursuits) to consider when planning a second life.

I first met Gordon Burgett when he was an administrator in the Cal State University system when he was extricating himself from the bureacracy. He was about 40, a husband and father, and determined to changes careers. I thought he was truly brave, ready to turn his back on a comfortable salary and a great retirement program to lecture and publish on his own.

He made his move. It was scary to behold, but stimulating, too. Burgett's inspiration later prompted me to start my own new career as a successful writer.

Easy to Use, Thought-Provoking, Very Enjoyable.......1999-12-22

I saw myself in How to Create Your Own Super Second Life so clearly. I am in the Second Tier: 55+, and I am dealing with many of the issues you discuss. I enjoyed the quotes scattered throughout the book and your irreverent sense of humor in describing some of the facts and fiction about aging.

I found the exercises very useful. The super second life dream list was particularly poignant for me as I realized how long I have let my dreams stay inside without being realized. I am just now, at 57, starting to let go of the "shoulds" and am looking at the "wants" that I have put on the shelf for another time.

I also found the Money Worksheet very helpful in focusing in on how much I have and what I need to retire. I realized I had more than I thought, and that the things I would like to do in retirement do not cost that much.

Too sum it up, I found the book thought-provoking, easy-to-read, and a very good primer in giving myself permission to have a super second life, with the tools to make that happen. The personal, conversational tone of the book made it very enjoyable to read.

As an instructor in the emergency management field, I found this book to be concise and on-target with respect to preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters...both public and private. Mr. Laye's ability to convey the reason and methods of preparedness and response is apparently based on experience and in-depth research. Well outlined and a must for any manager concerned with business survival following virtually any disaster.

The "Must Have" Book on Business Continuity.......2002-09-25

As a business continuity consultant and leader of business continuity seminars, I'm always asked to recommend books that would be helpful in the development and implementation of a disaster recovery/business continuity program. John Laye's "Avoiding Disaster" is one I will heartily recommend - whether the reader is new to this arena or a seasoned professional.

Written from a no-nonsense, real-world perspective, this is a book that everyone involved in business continuity should have readily available to use and to pass along to others in their organizations who need to truly understand what business continuity is all about.
