Good Reference.......2007-04-20
This is not the most interesting read in the world, but it contains good information. If you have an import business, this is a must have for your reference library.
A Basic Guide to Importing.......2006-01-31
This is like the dictionary not good reading but a must have when you need to look up a word. Only a fraction of the material will be about your specific situation or product. Most if not all this info is available at the customs service website but is good to have it in one place.
Just got to customs website.......2005-01-09
All of the information in this book is available through the US customs website. Don't waste your money.
Not at all written in a user friedly manner either, just lists all sorts of rules.
A little vague, but it's a MUST HAVE.......2002-07-08
It is not a user-friendly book, but it supplies a lot of guidelines fot the beginning importer. I recommend you to buy it, but supplement it with specific info on the article(s) you intend to import (food, clothing, machinery, etc.).
A must-have reference book for international trade........2001-07-07
Wow! What a useful book it is! It is an essential reference that provides concise, accurate, and informative expertise especially on importing. If you are looking for a reliable resource about importing regulations and entry procedures, this is the one that you should consider!!!

Customer Reviews:
Great book.......2007-06-21
I have bought and read the book. And I can say that this book provides great insights to the reader. I recommend it to everybody who wants to gen involved in international business.
A Good Starting Point.......2007-04-20
I ordered this book knowing absolutely nothing about import/export. This book is great for novices. It does a fine job explaining the many facets of import and export. However, before attempting to start your own import/export business, you will need to do a lot more research. This book attempts to cover a great deal of info in just a few pages. Nelson's book is a great place to start your quest for import/export knowledge.
eeehhh!.......2006-12-22
It has alot of info and facts. But doesn't help you make any decisions. Read: "The Maui CEO" by John Tennant instead.
Good starter book.......2006-11-10
This is a very good starter book for anyone who is thinking about international trade.
Save your money and time.......2006-10-01
This book is a bit dated. There is no use for this book if you want to get into this business on a serious basis. Poor style, poor grammar and very poor content. The author devoted 75 pages on trade agreements such as NAFTA and the EU. You don't need to know the technical details of these agreements. You need to sell, sell and sell. This book is very bad. If you want a primer on the ins and outs buy get Exporting, Importing and Beyond. After that, buy Building an Import/Export Business by Weiss (this book gives you techniques that are absolutely useless but it is important to know this...so you don't do what he advises). You can round it off by buying How Small Business Trades Worldwide by John Wiley Spiers who gives a no-nonesense approach. Back to this book. Carl Nelson really needs to update this book to include E-bay and recommend Frontpage or Dreamweaver to create a Website instead of saying it is "easy" to use HTML. In this business, a website isn't necessary but it may be a good idea to have one if you want to market directly to consumers. Also, consider getting into this business by starting off as a Manufacturers representative (consider William H. Krause book on How to Get Started as a Manufacturer Representative) This book was plain AWFUL.

From one of the country's top experts on international trade, here is a guide on how to start and run an import or export business. Aimed at both start ups and established businesses, it shows how to enter international trade markets quickly, economically, and with a minimum of study. Used It For Class!.......2000-04-02
I use this book for my International Business class in college and it has become a second bible for me. There are detailed examples and countless explanations of all the necessary forms and permits as well as rules and regulations are all included in an easy to understand format. If you ever wanted to know the in's and out's of importing/exporting, if you've always wanted to start your own side business as an importer or simply if you are a student in any type of Business class then this book IS a must.

Customer Reviews:
Limited.......2001-08-21
A number of international trade terms used throughout the industry are not included in this book. So the glossary is somewhat disappointing in this respect.
Hinkelman also did not provide a detailed overview of Documentary Collection payments (used less frequently than L/C, but still worth noting).
However, I would give a thumbs up to the L/C overview.
The '89 Basic Guide to Exporting is a good start, but.............1998-09-28
The 1989 version of the Basic Guide to Exporting is a good start, but one should look for the 1998 version in order to keep up with our digital global economy. Yes, the 1989 version is old and pre-Berlin Wall, but actually very similar to the 1998 new version in structure. The 1989 version of the Basic Guide of Exporting illustrates the essentials of exporting something to few exporters really appreciate. One of the best aspects of the 1989 version is the beginning sections on developing the exporter's international marketing plan. In the early chapters, one also learns the specific techniques and programs used in international marketing and research - the primers in exporting a good or service abroad. The other benefit of this cost-effective tool is the sample forms that one can use in corresponding with international importers and business contacts. Of course, one should always seek professional advice on all aspects of exporting and the Basic Guide is your source for those helpful contacts. However, the names and contact information in the 1998 version are much more relevant because they are more updated and reference many aspects of Internet resources. Exporting has also changed in the last nine years and the 1989 version is not up to date enough to cover those changes effectively. Although the 1989 version is good, one should seek out the new version so that one is prepared for the new global e-commerce environment. The 1989 Basic Guide of Exporting could be your start, but you must build from there. The price is right, too!
An excellent exposition of the subject material.......1998-03-26
This book is the single best summary of the subject that I have reviewed in my nearly fifteen (15) years as a commercial attorney. Ms. Alexandra Woznick, the author, is to be commended for an outstanding job of clarifying a subject that is to even experienced practioners, both mystifying and terrifying, and shows that she's the one to consult about such problems. Far from raging against the machine or leaving us down in a jungleland of complexity and regulation, Ms. Woznick shows that you, too, can understand fundamentals and basics of exporting. The edge that one will gain in the battle of evermore increasing regulation and red tape, both on the main streets and the backstreets of trade, from having this book in his or her corporate, professional or personal library more than justifies the small purchase price. The impressions one has from this work are lasting, and yet may field immediate responses to perplexing questions which come up on the run or in the air while doing deals. On business or in the midst of complex transactions, I can't get it out of my head that in the end, this little volume is a keeper. While one cannot guarantee removing all the kinks, contstraints and complications of export practice, this volume will take you past the long and winding road of complex research and easy misunderstanding to an easy short cut to straightening them out. While I had no expectations when I first picked up this volume, the impact for me will not fade away any time soon, lifting as it did the ball and chain of less clarifying works. If I had my way, this volume would be in every commercial practioner's bookshelf. All around the world, and under African skies where our President even now is encouraging export and trade, this book will help one break on through to an understanding of trade complexities in a complex and dynamic legal and regulatory trading environment. If one is drawn to the rhythym of international trade, one is well advised to keep this little volume in order to keep up with the beat of a changing world market.
Ideal for New-to-Export individuals.......1997-02-23
Written by the US Department of Commerce especially for small or medium sized businesses who have never exported before. Covers selecting a country, adapting your product, find a channel of distribution, government regulations, trade barriers, getting paid, terms of sale, and shipping options

Customer Reviews:
Target market - author's comment.......2001-11-14
The text is aimed at practising international marketers, although also of benefit to students of more advanced or specialised international marketing programmes. The material is developed from years of line management and international marketing consultancy, including with many blue chip multinational corporations, across many global markets. Much of the material has been used, honed and customised, on many in-company team development programmes run by the author.
Hands on export marketing.......2001-11-14
The author clearly is a hands on international marketer, sharing his experience across many markets and aspects of international marketing. Whilst is is of good use for students of international marketing, particularly those of CIM and Institute of Export professional exams, I think it is particularly relevant for practisng marketers.

Exclusive rankings. A directory of over 1,000 programs/finding the right school and getting in/where the jobs are. * 2004 Edition*
Customer Reviews:
There Are Many Better Sources Of Information.......2004-09-19
I have purchased several of the US News guides to graduate schools, and find them to be five pounds of material in a ten pound sack. There are many rankings which are useful (but inherently subjective when you examine the methodologies) and articles on important considerations like funding, scholarships, admissions, etc.
The section with a brief description of the individual schools and programs is the most useful, but also has flaws, most specifically with the survey method used to obtain information. The information is very incomplete and basically only consists of what the admissions department wants the public to know about a given program or school. Schools that did not send the surveys back have essentially no information presented, making them hard to compare to others that did. Many schools didn't answer all questions, so the internal consistency is frequently poor.
I think these publications (they are essentially unchanged from year to year) are not intrinsically awful, but the reader needs to take claims of "Exclusive Rankings", etc. with the grain of salt they deserve. Better yet, just buy a comprehensive book on the subject, of which several are available, probably the best being from Penguin.

Book Description
This book was primarily written for the quality control and statistical quality control course areas on the junior, senior and graduate levels in Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, and Management departments. It provides a broad treatment of quality control by expanding on the traditional statistical process control content to include process definition, design, and improvement -- as well as control. It encourages a holistic view of a production system and its customers.
The materials have been developed with both academic requirements and professional practice in mind. They allow an instructor to build a significant hands-on design project element into what sometimes turns into a descriptive initiative-by-initiative or tool-by-tool approach to instruction.
