Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Helpful for the cover letter 'rookie'.......2007-01-26

101 Best Cover Letters is a good buy if you are struggling with putting together just the right words for a great cover letter. Gives some "common sense" tips, but also a variety of styles (i.e. responding to classified ad, how to incorporate a reference, specific careers) for your letter. Obviously you still have to make your cover leter your own, but this book definitely helps get the wheels turning.

1 out of 5 stars 101 Flattering cover letters for sycophants.......2006-06-16

The example letters are uniformly dreadful. Marginal grammar and usage combine with a sacherine style aimed at kissing up to second-raters. These letters are guaranteed to repell anyone with whom one would really like to work.

4 out of 5 stars GREAT Book, BUT NOT in Digital Format.......2004-02-12

Great examples of cover letters with explanation of what makes them great, but I only know this because I bought the printed version after not being able to read the examples AT ALL in the downloaded digital version. I even tried reading on a 19" high resolution monitor using the PC version of Microsoft Reader, .

The problem is that even though Microsoft Reader allows one to change the fonts of the print to suit the reader, scanned images like ALL the cover letter examples are not scalable, so it is impossible to distinguish an e from an o, l from an i, and so on.

Amazon should not sell books with graphics and fixed images in digital format, or at least should warn customers of the issue before they pay to download a book in digital format that has over 70% in unscalable, unreadable format.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT FOR THE NEWBIES or EXPERTS OUT THERE!.......2003-06-08

This book was a great investment! The cover letters give you examples to use in your own letter and show you the strengths found in each cover. I actually took a highlighter to this book and highlighted my favorite lines and ideas out of certain letters. I then implemented them into my letter. Great for everyone, the professional or the inexperienced. YOU NEED THIS BOOK!

2 out of 5 stars I was very disappointed with this purchase........2002-08-28

I was very disappointed with this purchase. The only subject the letters cover is for use in getting a job. If I had known that it was strictly targeting getting a job I would have never purchased this. I was looking for a book that had a variety of letters you would find useful in the business world, not getting a job.

For years the personal reference shelf has remained fairly static: the dictionary and thesaurus, the atlas and almanac. But Louis Rubin's A Writer's Companion fills perfectly the niche of his own creation; it is a compilation of eclectic and elusive information on everything a writer, editor, teacher, or data-dabbler might want within arm's reach. Dedicated to Charles Dillon Stengel's maxim "You could look it up," Rubin's gift to the reference community features 66 lists and glossaries ranging from travel and transportation to history and politics, architecture and art to religion, literature, and television, plus sports, gastronomy, law, psychoanalysis, and the natural world.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great facts; good resource for trivia lovers........2001-08-20

If you love to learn interesting facts about a wide variety of topics, including science, film and history, then this will make a unique book to own. I also recommend this for those who love trivia and who watch game shows, for this book contains valuable information on many topics.

5 out of 5 stars The Writerýs Resource.......2000-10-03

When you write, you commit history. Others will read your Work in their research and may even quote you. Putting ink on paper is too easy; taking it off is very expensive. You must be correct with your facts, definitions and references.

And, of course, background detail makes your writing more valuable and interesting.

Whether you are researching the names of native American tribes, legal terms, sports, movies, religious calendars, architectural terms, famous hotels or just about anything else, this book will be your constant reference.

As the author of 113 books (including revisions and foreign-language editions) and over 500 magazine articles, I highly recommend this book to writers everywhere. DanPoynter@ParaPublishing.com.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference for... Everything.......1999-09-24

You can only put so much stuff in a 1000 page book, but the author has chosen some very good lists. I've vowed to put at least 15 minutes a day into this book. Might alternatively be called "A Breif Guide to Humans and their Culture"

4 out of 5 stars It worked great for my academic team!!!.......1999-06-24

My whole team academic team studied from this book. It is quick and easy to learn a thourough description for a wide subject. We used it and won the State Championship this year.

4 out of 5 stars A must-have for Jeopardy fans & other curious people.......1998-04-28

*A Writer's Companion* works well as a starting point for researching subjects and an ending point for settling arguements. A gift from Rubin to writers, reseachers, teachers and editors, this book keeps true to its name and provides page after page of names, dates and other information you only thought you'd never need to know. The lists are extensive and the subjects are very logically organized. The list of inventions and their dates of conception is a goldmine! *AWC* is a welcome partner to any almanac and a solid investment for anyone who wants a more comprehsive reference (home) library.

                      Book Description

Total Quality Service rises to the business challenge of the 90s. It explains in the most concise terms possible the principles of TQS. The research stands-most unhappy customers do not complain. Instead, they never again buy from businesses that just once left them unsatisfied. What then is TQS? In the simplest terms, it is the true commitment to operationalizing the concept of customer focus, establishing service performance standards, measuring performance against benchmarks, recognizing and rewarding exemplary behavior, and maintaining enthusiasm for the customer at all times. Companies that do not provide quality service not only won't compete-they won't exist. Let Total Quality Service put you and your employees on the cutting edge of customer satisfaction.
