Book Description
The Customer Learning Curve examines every aspect of selling a product or service from the customer's point of view. It enables you to take an integrated, customer-centered approach and help move the customer through the learning curve more effectively. It helps you cope with too many choices, deal effectively with disruption, make midcourse corrections, assess the progress of a new product or service, and assist top management in making good choices. Companies need a strong model for understanding customers, but their approach is often piecemeal because each department focuses on a different component - technology, price, service, communications, and distribution. This book starts with the premise that a company's most important marketing process is the one that goes on in the customer's mind. From the customers' perspective, the company's division of labor is irrelevant: The mental process of learning about, deciding to buy, purchasing, and using a product or service is a single continuum. That continuum is the Customer Learning Curve (CLC), that ranges from customers having a need (but perhaps not even knowing it) to being loyal -- repeat users. The CLC is a proven model, grounded in years of research and consulting with business-to-business and consumer goods companies-companies that have consistently achieved breakthrough results from their CLC-guided marketing efforts. This book will give you the information you need to join these marketing success stories and make the CLC work for your business.

The beauty of the "Customer Learning Curve" is its pulling together the multiple pieces of the overall business growth puzzle necessary for systematically achieving market success. A very well done book!

A fantastic model for understanding customers.......2004-03-10
Finally, a real-world model for evaluating the effectiveness/impact of every aspect of your marketing program. This very readable book demonstrates, with numerous proven examples, a marketing tool that finally enables marketers and everyone focused on profit to answer the age old question, 'Which part of my marketing programs are truly effective?'
By page 24, chapter 1, I learned to use a simple (math-a-phobics will love this book!) mathematical tool to evaluate every step of the marketing process, from building awareness to supporting the distribution channel, motivating the purchase, and creating post purchase satisfaction that will lead to re-purchase. The examples guided me through an evaluation of the most impactful ways to spend marketing dollars, and the whole process is done in a way that can easily be explained to upper management.
The "Customer Learning Curve" is a fantastic tool!

Book Description
The performance of various types of capital resources in the economic reforms of China are of great interest to those involved in the reforms as policymakers, scholars, and businesspeople. Four major areas of financial development are identified--banking and loans, trade and foreign direct investments, official flows and foreign exchanges, and the stock market. The quality, or efficiency, of the capital resource has not been given equal weight with quantity, as it is difficult to measure the quality of a resource, and because more of a capital resource is generally preferred to less. A comprehensive analysis of trade and investment issues in China has been provided.

Good fast informative read.
almost great.......2007-02-05
I got this book as a present and I really enjoyed it. I loved the parts about bow and arrows and I'm excited to start making my own. The only thing that I thought it lacked was it didn't have all the Native American tools that I was interested in making but over all I enjoyed the book and am glad that I recieved it.

The author covers a wide range of survival skill subjects from the use of an atlatl to how a boat was made from tules. The book is filled with detailed information with cited sources. The table of contents is hefty and an excellent bibliography is provided. A must for anyone interested in survival skills of Native Californians from the past.
Thorough look at California Indian life.......2001-08-15
This book provides a fascinating and comprehensive glimpse into the daily lives of pre-contact California Indians. It is laid out in easy to use chapters that provide just enough information to be complete, but still include local examples and myths to add flavor to the narrative. My only complaint is that some of the skills are a bit complicated and are confusing to read. I guess you just have to go out to the wilderness and try it out! This is a must-read for anyone interested in California Indians and their history.

Scott O'Dell won the Newbery Medal for Island of the Blue Dolphins in 1961, and in 1976 the Children's Literature Association named this riveting story one of the 10 best American children's books of the past 200 years. O'Dell was inspired by the real-life story of a 12-year-old American Indian girl, Karana. The author based his book on the life of this remarkable young woman who, during the evacuation of Ghalas-at (an island off the coast of California), jumped ship to stay with her young brother who had been abandoned on the island. He died shortly thereafter, and Karana fended for herself on the island for 18 years.
O'Dell tells the miraculous story of how Karana forages on land and in the ocean, clothes herself (in a green-cormorant skirt and an otter cape on special occasions), and secures shelter. Perhaps even more startlingly, she finds strength and serenity living alone on the island. This beautiful edition of Island of the Blue Dolphins is enriched with 12 full-page watercolor paintings by Ted Lewin, illustrator of more than 100 children's books, including Ali, Child of the Desert. A gripping story of battling wild dogs and sea elephants, this simply told, suspenseful tale of survival is also an uplifting adventure of the spirit. (Ages 9 to 12)
Book Description
In the Pacific there is an island that looks like a big fish sunning itself in the sea. Around it, blue dolphins swim, otters play, and sea elephants and sea birds abound. once, Indians also lived on the island. And when they left and sailed to the east, one young girl was left behind.
This is the story of Karana, the Indian girl who lived alone for years on the Island of the Blue Dolphins. Year after year, she watched one season pass into another and waited for a ship to take her away. But while she waited, she kept herself alive by building shelter, making weapons, finding food, and fighting her enemies, the wild dogs. It is not only an unusual adventure of survival, but also a tale of natural beauty and personal discovery.

Enchanting and riveting, this story will stay with you.......2007-08-27
I have to smile when reading these other reviews that say this book was one of their favorites as a child. It also was mine. I've read so many books, that most times the memory of the details within them grow dim, but not with "Island of the Blue Dolphins". I can still picture the breathtaking beauty of the island where Karana spent her growing years. I still remember her joys and trials of living alone for so long, after everyone had left. Her ingenuity and strength still amazes me. I can't wait until my children are old enough so I can enjoy this Newberry book with them. It's definitely one in a million.
Island Of The Blue Dolphins!.......2007-08-19
When I was on vacation at Martha's Vinyard I went to the book store and bought Island Of The Blue Dolphins for myself and I loved it!! I love it so much because of it's beautiful discriptions and details that I can picture in my mind. This book is beautifully written and has wonderful detail of natural survival of hunting, and making friends (Rontu and Rontu-Aru and the English girl Tutok, the fox and Won-a-nee the otter). How many wonderful and beautiful adventures of exciting survival can one indian girl have? I am 10 years old and recommend this book to whoever loves reading and is a fan of detail and beauty!!!!!!!!

Customer Reviews:
Reads like an 8th graders report.......2006-09-14
This book fails to provide any details that are worth while.
Each food resource consists of a list of tribes that used that genus (species not differentiated). No details provided on method of harvesting nor required processing.
Another major section provids drawing of traditional clothing such as mocasins. Many different styles of mocasins are prepresented, but no discussion is made about the pros and cons of various designs. While interesting from a historical aspect, this is not a reference for survival skills. The details of any skills are iced over in favor of descriptioin of that was.
Excellent Resource for Native American Skills.......2003-02-15
This is a very thorough, extensive book, covering nearly all aspects of Native American Living and Skills, I have yet to come across another book that is filled with such PRACTICAL information relating to wilderness survival skills as practiced by the Indian tribes of North America. I find that the author goes as in-depth as possible to explain how to apply the skills practically and efficiently, and easily. Peter Goodchild includes well-drawn sketches in most of the chapters, to go along with the written information on exactly how the skills are and were performed. This is the kind of book that I would recommend for someone serious about wilderness living, and/or someone wanting to easily learn the most practical native skills that were used for everyday life in the bush. In conclusion, this book is highly reccomended!
good book.......2000-10-08

Book Description
There is a general unrest and undercurrent of fear present in the North American population today. Many of the elders say that it is not right to share this knowledge with anyone non-native. I say, we are all the Creator's children, for we have the same Father or Creator in common.
People have injured our Turtle Island (Mother Earth) almost beyond the point of no return, and we are to reap the rewards for our indifference. Mother Earth is angry, for we have injured the soul that was left in our keeping, and this soul will fight back to repair its aura in some terrible ways.
We have much to endure to see our way through the devastation that is to come into our lives.
What would you do if: the power went off for a week or longer during the winter? the grocery stores closed? you had to evacuate your home suddenly because of fire or flood? there was a medical emergency and rescue personnel couldn't reach you?
Customer Reviews:
Profiteering from Prophesy..........2003-04-21
If you are looking for a real discussion about these important prophesies...one with a researched and clear understanding of the prophesies and their *traditional* meanings, then you should avoid this book. If you want to read an uninformed stream of consciousness that is a cross between babble and rant with a lot of airy opinions and unsubstantiated woo-woo thrown in, then this is your book. These two "writers" are profiteering off of sacred teachings and people's fears. They come across as underqualified and overly self-impressed. They should be embarrassed...
Most Excellent filled with Ways of Change!.......2000-08-18
Upon reading this book I was thrown into new thoughts and more culture than the average American neighborhood. Hearing these words of wisdom turned my soul unto a brighter level. I really enjoyed reading this and I think anyone interested in Prophecy would be well tuned to read this book as well. I simply read it in 3 days time in my free time and I find myself wanting to read it over and over. In these times of global warming and the severe heat and fires on the Earth and Political change I found that this was a suitable guide to making change in my personal life and getting in touch with a side that often remains hidden from myself and others. I hope to read more from this Author and I highly recommend it. Thanks. God bless.

An excellent introduction to the study of Native American crafts and outdoor skills.
Customer Reviews:
Great skills to learn!.......2006-06-20
Reviewed by Irene Watson for Reader Views (6/06)
I was particularly interested in reviewing this book to further my knowledge on my husband's Cherokee ancestors and their roots in crafts. I was amazed how detailed this book is and found some interesting information.
Growing up in Northern Canada I often found arrow heads and remnants of tools on our family farm. Montgomery explains how these items are made and I now appreciate the painstaking time and labor it took to make just one tool.
Montgomery not only explains the construction but he gives dimensions and step-by-step instructions for each item. He not only details tools and weapons, but shelters, including a Tipi. He also covers hunting and trapping, tanning, clothing, cooking, transportation, and jewelry, including bead and quill work.
After perusing Montgomery's book I have a heightened appreciate for the crafts that the Native American people continue to preserve. "Native American Crafts & Skills" is certainly a "101" book for anyone that wants to learn any native crafts.
Soooo Many Things To Choose From.......2005-04-27
If you get the book,or look on Amazon, you'll see that there are 4 1/2 pages in the table of contents. There is a whole lot to choose from. Buuuuut, sometimes, the author gets a little confusing, and I can't see what he's saying. It's a really good book though, ESPECIALLY if you are a person interested in native americans.
A good book but a little vague.......2003-04-24
I enjoyed reading this book and still use it quite a bit for reference. I just wish the writer of this book would have spent a little more time on the details of the subjects of this book. It is quite vague on many things. The best part of this book is the different animal track markings.
