Email Marketing: Using Email to Reach Your Target Audience and Build Customer Relationships
ASIN: 0974439304 |
Book Description
Email is conceptually brilliant: low cost, high speed, personal, dynamic, and interactive. But there's a big difference between knowing that email is a powerful marketing tool and proving it.
So how do you know if you're doing it well? How do you show your CFO that it's really helping the bottom line? How do you convince your boss or business partners that a decent investment in email management tools will pay off? You can promise to prove how well email is increasing awareness, building interest, populating your sales cycle, and generating revenue.
This is a book of proofs. A book about the ways and means that email can be put to the test. A book about how an individual goes about demonstrating the power of email and pointing to specific results. This is a story that shows how you can as well.
Customer Reviews:
Brilliant!.......2005-04-21
I am an email-marketing beginner. I had no idea what email marketing and promotion looked like, I hadn't a clue how to approach it. This book is perfect for me and exceptional on a few counts.
First, Jim Sterne packs an awful lot of material in a very skinny book. I'm used to software books that are padded unmercifully and then priced (ummm ...) arrestingly, let's say. This thin, dense book is a welcome treat.
It follows from the book's compressed, all-useful content that it's a quick read: a couple of hours to go through it the first time. No slogging through stuff I already know because I'm afraid the author will spring some new info on me -- Gotcha! -- somewhere in the first 100 pages of fluff (see above).
Then I'm just bowled over by the quality of the editing. Unlike almost all books I see these days, I could find no distracting grammar or spelling abominations, the kind that make me distrust and suspect the author. Another treat!
Finally, what might have been a lot of detailed soporific lecture material, the same stuff that put me to sleep in Econ 101, Sterne manages to arrange in vital and vibrant form. Vivid, too! Yea, verily! Sterne gives us a moribund marketing team, introduces an email-marketing journeyman, and then lets the work and conversation flow as everybody learns a whole lot, as we do. And the story has a poignant, happy ending, too: bring your Kleenex.
Bravo! A brilliant job.
Every Small Business Needs This Book.......2005-01-25
Advanced Email Marketing really should have been called, "Email Marketing Strategies for Beginners." Sterne takes a complicated subject and breaks it down into a very digestible format.
If all business and/or technical books read like Sterne's we'd have a lot more small businesses showing black instead of red.
Solution to those who are suffering within your organization.......2004-04-21
For the starter of email marketing, it is a good guide to grasp what is all about email marketing and its effectiveness. You do not feel you wasted your money after reading it. For those who are engaged in email marketing, it would give you a path to the successful roadmap of how you should convince your boss and business partners. You would regret it if you do not read this and put it into practice. I have a lots of corporate clients who are suffering within their organization. I think I can introduce it to them if it is translated in Japanese. If it is OK to translate this into Japanese, I could do this. The story is very enticing. Norito (email marketing consultant from Tokyo, Japan)

Book Description
What if you could double your eBay sales with one mouse click? Sound impossible? Welcome to the next big development in the world of online auctions: datafeeds.Using a datafeed to export your eBay auction listings, your items will now surface in shopping-focused searches performed by engines like Yahoo! Shopping, Amazon, and Google's new Froogle service. Instead of a general search, which finds thousands of Web pages that merely mention an item, sites like Froogle and Yahoo! Shopping return a list of online retailers who actually sell the product. Would you like to be on those lists?Building Your eBay Traffic the Smart Way gives you dozens of new strategies for reaching people whose only goal is to buy. With auction management software or a service, your eBay business information is kept in a database that can feed information to other e-commerce systems -- like Froogle, Yahoo! Shopping, Amazon, and other product search engines. Which means that your product is now available not only to eBay buyers but also to a whole new universe of online shoppers!Building Your eBay Traffic the Smart Way also unlocks the incredible power of cross-selling (linking from one auction to another), targeted advertising, pro-quality photography, eBay stores, online malls, and much more!
Customer Reviews:
Want to build traffic?.......2007-06-14
If you want to build traffic to your eBay site... buy this book, read it, do it, and enjoy the return.
Lots of White Space...........2006-03-09
This books packs about 20 pages of content in to 250 actual pages. Uses big text and lots of white space. Also fills space by repeating same basic ideas over and over.
Would make a good pamphlet. Don't waste your money.
Waste of time, shallow, filled with spelling errors.......2005-12-04
The book is so bad that I'm compelled to review it so that others do not make the same mistake and waste their time as I have.
* Many of the chapters are 2-3 pages each. This would have been less annoying if there was valuable & concise information in those few pages. However, the ideas are shallow, not well supported, but the author rambles and repeats them over & over.
* Spelling errors -- for example, "umbrella" was spelled as "unbrella" and "advertise" as "advertsie" and these were just two I noticed without even looking very closely. This is small thing but makes you think that the author just threw the book together.
* Overall, the book is very conversational & unprofessional. The author used sentence fragments in almost every paragraph, and many times the author would introduce a topic by asking "What is XX? Well I'll tell you." (literally, this is the sentence structure, word for word, what was used over & over).
* Author advises for several topics (e.g., photographing items to sell) that the reader should buy his other books to learn more in depth. This is frustrating since nothing in the book is covered in any depth.
I read through this book in about an hour, and it was enough to decide to return this and look to get other Ebay books instead.
A one idea book.......2005-09-24
This book has one idea -- feed from a data base -- and he beats it to death. It is not really helpful beyond the data base idea.
Dumber than Dummies - A Waste of Time........2005-09-21
First of all I am shocked, shocked I tell you that the American Management Association would publish a series of books of this low caliber.
Like most things these days the buildup and hype is overshawdowed by the delivery. On the back cover of the book it states that "This unvelievably powerful book shows step-by-step how to get all of your items listed not only on eBay but also on Amazon.com..." but it doesn't it only briefly mentions Amazon; in two places in only a very minor way (check it out for youself, use the look inside to check the back cover, table of contents, and the index.)
This is the most simplistic of internet books I have ever read...with all the the practical internet nutrition as a bag of skittles. Most chapters are no more than 7 or eight pages, with unbeleivably huge font type and paragraph headings that it ressembles a kids book.
For example Chapter 10, Creating Yahoo Ads, totals less than two full pages!!! This chapter only has about 48 (FORTY EIGHT) lines of full text, about what a sixth grade reader would expect.
I first picked up the book because of the cover text which states, "Use Froogle, Datafeeds, Cross selling, Advanced Listing Strategies and more to boost sales on the webs #1 auction site."
Being interested in the concept of datafeeds I was dissapointed when I got to that portion of the book.
One other mention here. The author does a good job of making a plug for his other books and websites, but I suggest you go to his website. For someone that is making money on the internet and writing books about it the site looks like those from 10 years ago, about the time eBay was started. It has the coolness factor of white shoes with plaid pants. I will say though that he did have a good idea with the diagram about linking multiple websites on page 127.
Very dissapointed. Do your self a favor and look for other ebay books.

Book Description
New developments in information technology, an increasing flow of information and cultural exchanges, and the rapidity with which trade and investment now takes place has given rise to uncertainty. This book seeks to understand the nature of these changes, their impact on the sovereignty of the nation state, and whether this process of globalization is in fact something new. The contributors consider the historical development of the state in the global economy, the forces that have created the modern global economy, regional issues of globalization and the importance of the state. Also included are a series of case studies from around the world.

Customer Reviews:
Useful contribution to globalisation debate.......2001-07-18
This is a useful collection of fourteen essays; the contributors are mostly from the USA, but with two each from Canada and Britain. It covers the historical development of the state in the global economy since the 18th century, the relationships of states, sovereignty and capital accumulation, regional issues of globalisation, and the recent changes in global information technology and financial practices. It also presents case studies of the European Union, Central and Eastern Europe, Mexico, Southeast Asia, China and Africa.
While written from a perspective critical of neoliberalism, as are most studies with any claim to scholarship, it merely describes the realities it deplores, without exploring the possibilities of change. Probably the best book in this field is Globalisation and progressive economic policy, edited by Dean Baker, Gerald Epstein and Robert Pollin, published by the Cambridge University Press in 1998.
Vivien A. Schmidt, in a fascinating chapter on France, Great Britain, and Germany between globalization and Europeanization, scotches the myth that the EU has anything to do with workers' rights or democracy. She concludes, "The European Union in particular has afforded European business unprecedented supranational policy-making access and influence at the same time that it has reduced national government policy-making autonomy."
Eric Helleiner shows that those who gain from financial globalisation frequently overstate its effect on macroeconomic policy autonomy. He shows that the notorious Mitterand U-turn towards capital liberalisation was not forced by capital flight, but by the European Monetary System, which kept the franc in tight limits. By contrast, Sweden and Norway, which were not in the EMS, kept their currencies floating, allowing them sustained growth throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
The authors show that globalisation is not some automatic, irresistible process. It is a bogy, to frighten us into believing that capital is all-powerful. Capitalist states, primarily the USA and Britain, created the global financial institutions, the World, the IMF and the World Trade Organization, to strengthen the employers against workers, their trade unions, their industries and services. But when workers decide, we can control capital to reinvest it in our workplaces, industries and countries.

Book Description
Kurt Mills investigates how the concept of sovereignty is changing as a result of normative, empirical, and institutional developments. From a normative political theory perspective he argues that respect for human rights, popular sovereignty, and self-determination are inherent in the social purpose of the state and thus must be considered when evaluating claims to sovereignty and non-intervention. Human Rights in the Emerging Global Order examines how recent international practice in the areas of human rights, self-determination, refugees and human migration and humanitarian intervention are challenging traditional conceptions of sovereignty in important, yet ambiguous, ways. Finally, it provides policy prescriptions to deal with these continuing humanitarian problems.
