Want to Help Women? Start Here.......2006-12-28
Though I didn't read the whole thing, this is a good book. It doesn't merely complain about the problems that we women (sadly) still face. It actually provides us with solutions on how to remedy problems ranging from threats to reproductive freedom to pay inequities to racism against women of color, among other things. The book also provides a list of websites, books, and organizations that readers can contact for additional help. At a time when we as women are still facing injustices because of our sex, this book gives us what we need to fight the good fight and achieve justice, dignity, respect, and freedom for us and our sisters.
A diversity of subjects of particular interest to women.......2005-06-04
50 Ways To Improve Women's Lives: The Essential Women's Guide To Achieving Equality, Health, And Success by the National Council of Women's Organizations (a nonpartisan coalition of 200 women's groups representing more than 10 million woman across the United States) addresses a diversity of subjects of particular interest to women including pay equity, reproductive health, child care, racism, education, social responsibilities, political leadership, and more. Very highly recommended and accessible reading, 50 Ways To Improve Women's Lives provides practical advice that will enable the reader to become actively involved in advancing the quality and independence of her life, and to more effectively pursue her personal and professional agendas.
Perfect Way to Put Our Passion into Action.......2005-03-09
This book gives a great overview of issues that most effect women by sharing stories and facts to illustrate important areas where change needs to occur, from childcare and family issues to equal pay, and women in sports and science.
I found it quick and easy to read--and I have very little time as a working mom!--with practical and doable actions if I so chose. For example, I was appalled to hear about the state of (very little or misleading!) sex education for high school students. Since I have kids about to enter their teens, this issue spoke to me. And it gave several ways for me to get active: by not supporting funding for harmful abstinence programs; asking my elected officials to fund honest and comprehensive sex ed; and then how to make sure my kids develop their own decision-making and critical thinking skills related to sex (and how to talk to them about it!) And this is just one of the 50 Ways... in the book.
I highly recommend this for people who want to get involved but are not sure how--and who don't have time to read huge volumes of books on politics and public policy.

The Real Thing.......2005-04-18
This book is one of the most serious, dense, and challenging of its kind in a genre saturated with slim, superficial volumes. The wisdom is clearly ancient and rich, and is carefully measured out for the reader. The teachings are not easily absorbed (by this North American, at least), but are excellent if you are looking for a deeper, truer understanding of shamanic traditions. Highly recommended.
Must-have reference on modern matrifocal shamanism.......2000-08-20
Visionary Mohawk medicine woman, Ohky Simine Forest's first book is a comprehensive and poetic reporting of long misunderstood ways of the Red Lodge of indigenous peoples. Had Europeans come to this continent as gracious guests, these are mysteries of the matriarchal Mohawk society that could have been shared with them. Herself an initiate in Mohawk, Mayan and Mongolian shamanism, Forest reveals the spiritual matrix which these cultures share and embeds it in a contemporary, real world political urgency. Synthesizing these core spiritual beliefs and practices, Forest offers compelling evidence that the view from the Red Lodge is what the world requires for individual and collective restoration to well being. The Red Lodge ways also provide, in the Medicine Wheel, an earth-derived map to self-governance that modern people are questing for in many guises. She teaches that the Medicine Wheel equips us to relate to planet and self in ways that are nearly inseparable, self-supporting and without which no sane system for enduring societal governance can arise. How do we build, nurture and sustain community? The matriarchs of the Mohawk have been doing it since antiquity and through perils most of us will never face. Forest, a Mohawk matriarch with a vision lives among the Maya people with this community building governance backed by the spiritual backbone of shamanism. Forest has little patience with hit and run shamanic wannabes and the extraction of "techniques" from their cultural matrix which leads, she observes, to further soul and societal illness. In this book she reveals with surprising candor, depth, and her characteristic humor, the world into which the shaman walks with expanding perception and deepening experience. It's no cake walk and Forest's book is unflinching in its descriptions of the challenges and dangers of this work. For instance, trotting out a Power Animal "technique" or forming a relationship with the incorrect Power Animal can have debilitating effects on personal energy and health. It is a sacred relationship born of the waters of the Red Lodge, she cautions, not a one size fits all concept that can be extracted safely from its matrix and doled out casually in workshops. Forest both describes and elucidates the interwoven meanings of the Medicine Wheel, dream body work, lucid dreaming. power animal allies, earth burial ceremony, vision questing, journeying in the nine Mayan underworlds and the thirteen Mayan upperworlds as well as giving a comprehensive recounting of native prophecies and their considerable energetic, economic and political significance for our modern times. This is a text to which those who study or practice shamanic work will refer again and again.
A beautiful, complex work of synthesis and rebirth........2000-08-07
Dreaming The Council Ways is a beautiful, complex work of synthesis and rebirth. Author Ohky Simine Forest weaves together spiritual training disciplines and practices from several cultures, including Mohawk, Mayan, Mongolian, and others. An added feature is her beautiful fold-out full color art work on several points of teaching. These are truly lovely, deserving extra attention. Forest patiently and warmly encourages the reader to respectfully explore beginning from their own racial perspective(s) and not to expect quick fix New Age short cuts or other cultural appropriation practices to yield valid, lasting insight or growth. Material on matriarchal traditions will interest students of feminine perspectives. Forest is not a comfortable read. That is not her way or her goal. She opens and hopes for a deeper spiritual connection with the reader, sharing information on dreaming, medicine wheel practices, interpreting power animal guides, and vision quests. She seeks the larger view, the convergence of spiritual paths. She challenges and teaches, reflecting the responsibility to heal back to each individual (where it belongs). As with all worthwhile experiences, more will be gained from giving more. That also applies to reading and understanding her book. Dreaming the Council Ways is accessible to nonNative readers, but it will yield more to the better, more thoughtful effort to understand with respect.

Customer Reviews:
A treasure trove of best practices.......2002-01-22
Successful customer relationship management isn't quite as simple as ordering the right hardware and software. As Tony Cram so brightly notes, the best practitioners of CRM are the ones that have mastered the complexities of treating customers as friends.
Employees are the linchpins in building those relationships. Employees' consistent, reliable treatment of customers is what really matters in building long-term, lucrative relationships. The book underscores that point with an array of examples from business-to-business and consumer marketers.
The suggested exercises at the end of each chapter invite readers to apply these valuable lessons to their own business.
Practical Advice with Passion - A Must Read.......2001-08-30
I was very impressed with Tony Cram's book. I found it packed with case study examples and practical advice. He draws in the minimum of theory to support his case, which moves along all the more smoothly as a result.
I particularly like the emphasis on the personal and emotional aspects of relationships with customers. This is a refreshing step away from the systems based CRM tradition.
An excellent and worthwhile read.
A masterly book.......2001-08-08
This is a masterly book full of knowledge and wisdom based on experience, research and reflection. Its central thesis is coherently and incisively argued with clarity and conviction. Tony Cram's command of his subject is apparent throughout and his extensive knowledge is based upon his own business experience and his thorough awareness of current global practice. Every theme, idea and argument is developed and expanded clearly and logically, and supported by references to recent research, real examples and up-to-date case studies. The latter are gems in themselves, carefully chosen to provide fascinating and revealing insights into successful business initiatives. They bring each chapter to a neat but thought-provoking conclusion.
The book is undoubtedly an outstanding contribution to the literature on customer relationships. But it is much more than this. It has that rare quality of real wisdom about it, wisdom which must not be wasted. It is a book to be read and acted upon, a brilliantly readable and inspiring book which will provide a big return on a small investment in money and time. Whatever business you are in, large or small, order this title now and become another very satisfied customer.
The best word so far on Customer Relationship Management.......2001-07-13
Tony Cram combines research examples and theory with his long experience in the field. He writes clearly and passionately. Tony's book is full of feet-on-the-ground management and would be useful for anyone interested in customers. Full of commonsense but as we know commonsense is not so easy to find. I learnt a lot and will be a better manager now.
Customer relationship: becoming a differentiator in industry.......2001-07-07
in Industry, our main focus nowadays is: cost reduction, economy of scale and market coverage (share). The reason for this is the awareness we have that, if we do not focus on these, we won't survive in the industry. However, it does have a downside which is hurting our business longer term. We tend to forget our customers ! The book by Tony Cram is describing the importance of the relationships you can have with your key-accounts. I believe that our customer relationships do make a difference and let us distinguish ourselves from competition. Personally, I think that having a low cost position has become a qualifyer and the relationship with our customers is becoming a real differentiator. The question is: how can you create and maintain a relationship with key-accounts in such a way that it really becomes a differentiator, especially in a price-driven business. To my opinion, Cram is describing the way you can create, build and maintain the relationships with your most valuable customers in such a way that it adds value to your business longterm. I think that business people should understand this and invest in this in order to survive longterm. As soon as the cost shake-out has been finalized , the battle for the customers really starts. The sooner you are set up to use this "marketing tool" optimally, the more you'll benefit from it. The way Cram is using case studies to make his points, I like very much. This makes the book lively and easy to recall and explain to others. I intend to start using the book in my market, handing it out to a selected group of key-account and I will share the book internally within my team of people since it is confirming the way I approach my business.
