The full-color book features many of Robbis popular quilts as well as chapters on: fused appliqué (save your machine for the quilting); free-motion quilting techniques (so comprehensive it could be a separate book); innovative finishing techniques (to make your quilts wall art not wallflowers); and dyeing your own fabrics (create a river of colors as unique as you are).
Customer Reviews:
Excellent resource guide, very inspiring.......2007-09-03
Robbi is a quilt artist who inspires the creative quilter in you. Her book is thought provoking and challenges you to think outside the box in both your pieces and quilting!
Best machine quilting book out there.......2006-07-03
The best compliment I can give this book is that it is never on my bookshelf - it's always right next to my sewing machine! Robbi Joy Eklow has the best instructions for fabric dyeing (and I've read quite a few books on dyeing) and the best information on free-motion machine quilting. Since purchase, I have consulted it over and over. Highly recommended!
Bright,Gorgeous,Fun and Fast.......2006-03-28
What a fabulous book! R J E's style is unique, but the techniques are well explained and demonstrated in such a way that I can see how I can incorporate this work into my own style. There is a delectable sense of fun throughout the book, both in the quilts themselves and the way in which the book is written. The book is a great read as well as being full of fabulous new techniques and inspiration.
It has it all!.......2005-12-12
Free Expression has information on design, color, construction, fusing, quilting, and dyeing your own fabric. Patterns are included in the book and sizeable on CD. The designs are wonderful, photographed artfully, you can really see the quilting in the photos! You feel like Robbi is talking to you when you read this book! There is no book out there even similar, it has every step illustrated and photographed. What a well written book.
This book is amazing.......2005-08-18
My eyes practically popped out of my head when I saw the amazing colors and techniques that Robbi Joy Eklow uses to make her quilts, and I couldn't wait to try them out myself. I found the directions easy to follow and the patterns and CD included really made this book a good value. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in new ways of designing and stitching quilts.

Book Description
This book spotlights the life and quilt patterns of Marie Webster (1859-1956), world famous leader of the quilt revival of the early 20th century. Containing 12 full size patterns and complete directions for her charming appliqu quilts, it will delight lovers of floral appliqu and children's quilts. Marie Webster's life story will inspire you with her rise to fame as a designer for The Ladies' Home Journal and the author of the first quilt book, Quilts: Their Story and How to Make Them (1915). She proved herself an innovative entrepreneur as well, by running a successful business, selling patterns, kits and finished quilts from her Indiana home.
Customer Reviews:
Fascinating quilt history, gorgeous patterns.......2007-09-16
Beautiful advanced needleturn applique patterns by Marie Webster, who designed and sold her patterns in the first half of the 20th century. These quilts also call for lots of intricate hand or machine quilting. Gorgeous results from challenging patterns!
Wonderful Tradional Designs.......2004-04-02
I cannot wait to start making a quilt using the designs in this book! If you've seen a quilt with roses, irises, daisies...before and weren't impressed, try this book for designs that are fresh and clean. According to this book, a lot of the designs of the 1920's-1950's were based off of these. I have not seen these patterns used in this way ever before. In this book you will find patterns for many flowers including: iris (pictured on the cover), daisy, may tulips, poppy, white dogwood (fabulous!), french baskets, and a very beautiful grapes and vines pattern.
If you've never appliqued before, this book will be a challenge to you. The instructions are written for a quilter with some experience. The beginning of the book gives wonderful details of the life of Marie Webster who is the original creator of these designs.
I also enjoyed Marie Webster's Gardent of Quilts which, I think would be a bit easier for a beginner eager to try traditional designs.
Gentile Traditional Patterns.......2002-04-19
This is a peek into the life of a very productive quilter and it adds so much more depth of enjoyment knowing the person who designed the patterns and the life she led.
The patterns are so stylish for the period and readily adapt to todays fabrics as well.
Every time I page through this book I feel as though I'm getting a hug of encouragement from all of our quilting ancestors.
You will enjoy the pictures, patterns and story.
A Joy to Read.......2001-08-15
An absolute treasure! Inspiring. Delightful reading and well-drafted patterns to use. A must for your quilt library.
Stunning all around.......1999-06-05
This is a superb book for anyone interested in American quilts of the 20th century. I was intrigued to discover that Marie Webster's designs, introduced to the public as early as 1912, were the originals from which "traditional" quilt patterns of the 1920's and 1930's were derived. These include the sunbonnets (gentle here, not saccharine), the poppy applique, and the medallion floral appliques. Also, it was an eye-opener to see Webster's dogwood and sunflower designs, extremely close variants of which were popularized years later by a manufacturer of quilt batting. The photography is excellent, and the book is printed on beautiful heavy-stock paper. The essays (written by Webster's grand-daughter) are joyful and respectful and a pleasure to read. The book includes patterns for 12 of the quilts shown. I can hardly wait to get started with my needle.

Customer Reviews:
Joyful.......2006-09-05
This book is nicely detailed for all the sizes of quilts. Plenty of pictures showing how and plenty of tables with information depending on what size you make. I really like this book as a reference for how much fabric to buy.
Approach with Care.......2002-06-06
This handy volume is a near-must own for beginners and beginning intermediate quilter's. However, the instructions included must be approached with care. Unfortunately it is usually necessary to slightly adjust the instructions to complete the quilt properly (which may be difficult for real beginners). The half-square units quick-piecing method is a ridiculous waste of time and fabric. The quilt's included are great and I refer to my copy frequently for inspiration.
The Joy of QUilting is a Joy to work with.......2002-01-18
Excellent book for beginners to intermediate quilters. Good step by step instructions and diagrams. Clear advice, and progressive designs.
One of my top recommendation for beginners.......1999-05-28
This book is perfect for the beginner to interm quilter. Each chapter presents some new key concepts and then incorporates in them an attractive quilt. The book is full color with loads of photographs showing what to do.
Very Useful.......1999-01-12
I bought this book prior to making my very first quilt. I discovered a treasure! The directions were clear and consise. The diagrams and pictures were useful. The quilts listed in the book appeared to be easy to make (I only did one - Incredibly Cool Cosmic Rocket Ship - and it was very easy to do). The directions can apply to projects outside of the book. I still refer to this book for quick tips and directions. I definetly recommend this for beginning quilters. Experienced quilters may find it useful as well.

Customer Reviews:
Just Delightful.......2005-07-18
This book is well-writen and organized. Not only are all of the projects tempting but the stories that the authors include with each quilt are just delightful to read.
I would consider myself an intermidiate skill quilter and found this book within my capabilities and very inspiring.
Excellent color photos and color pictures are included for each step of the instructions.
What makes this book really special and well worth owning are the personal stories that make each quilt mean more.
Happy Quilting!
Book Description
While making quilts is a priority for Helen Kelley, her primary passion is quilters themselves. And this love of quilters comes through in "Helen Kelley’s Joy of Quilting", her contribution to the ""universal quilter’s support group."" Through these entertaining and lighthearted yarns, you’ll experience Helen’s insights into the warmth and enjoyment of quilting. Join her as she delights in the support and enthusiasm of fellow quilters; experience her pride in accepting a gift of ""quilting rubble"" and finding a home for it; smile at how she can ""read"" fellow quilters through their pile of old quilt blocks and scraps and pieces; see a bit of yourself in the humble way she admits to improperly cutting and preparing fabrics; and chuckle as she candidly describes her messy workroom. About the Author: Helen Kelley’s ""Loose Threads"" column has been a favorite of readers of "Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine" since 1983. She is the author of Voyageur Press’s "Every Quilt Tells a Story", as well as "Scarlet Ribbons: An Indian Technique for Today’s Quilters", and "Dating Quilts: From 1600 to the Present". Kelley’s by-line has appeared in a variety of quilting publications, and her prize-winning quilts have been the subject of numerous photo essays. Her ""Renaissance Quilt"" was chosen as one of the 100 Best Quilts of the Twentieth Century.
Customer Reviews:
A little book with a lot of good information.......2005-03-19
Too bad it's out of print, but I've read that the author intends to update and reprint a new edition. Based on this edition, it should be worth getting. This edition covers fallacies and when to ignore them, pressing plans, and variations of the Mariner's Star, as well as basics on ironing (or rather pressing instead of ironing).

Book Description
As the role of the multinational enterprise (MNE) in the economic development of countries grows, a focus on how MNEs influence the process of regulatory and legislative structures has developed among scholars of international political economy. Yusaf H. Akbar draws a conceptual link between the market strategies of MNEs and the convergence of regulatory systems internationally. Focusing on empirical evidence from Central Europe and industry-specific case studies, Akbar uses the example of the successful implementation of EU laws in Hungary as it bids to join the EU to demonstrate the profound impact of MNE strategies.
Book Description
There's gold to be mined on the internet. Everyone knows that.
But those who will mine the most in years to come will be those who reach beyond cyberspace...those who understand the profit-producing potential of building customers through "old fashioned" offline methods and relationships.
"Mining Online Gold With An Offline Shovel" details hundreds of offline strategies and tactics that online entrepreneurs can use to build the net's most powerful and lucrative marketing vehicle: permission-based email.
This book speaks to internet marketers who have undervalued or even ignored "low tech" marketing methods: telephone, fax, snail mail, and the mass media.
But it also shows traditional "brick-and-mortar" businesses how to exploit familiar technology and methods to make themselves competitive in the online marketplace.
Customer Reviews:

Start getting that ONLINE gold!.......2004-11-24
This book is great for beginners. There is so much confusing information out there about how to make money from your website. This is a good first investment in your education on how to make the most on your online business at a reasonable price. A lot of education about online stuff is expensive and many times not worth it. I was able to take specific steps and start using them in my own business immediately. This book was written by 2 men who actually did what they are talking about and have the success to prove it. Good job!
Wow! Great information, in an easy to understand quick read!.......2003-06-03
"I read Joel & George's first book and after having worked in marketing for
the last 7 years, I can tell you that the information contained in this book
is worth 10x the amount it's priced at.

on using offline marketing methods to explode your online

If you are truly serious about building your business, then this book will
show you exactly how offline marketing can help you do it; step by step in
an easy to follow format.
