CE Marking can be regarded as a product's trade passport for Europe. It is a mandatory European marking for certain product groups to indicate conformity with the essential health and safety requirements set out in the European Directive.

Notwithstanding the comments from other reviewers, the authors fall a bit short of expectations. Several chapters are too short (voluntary programs and gap analyses as examples), and references are less than complete. The authors could have devoted more time to this important and much read subject matter.

There are other more comprehensive books: The ISO 14000 Guide (Cascio) and Inside ISO 14000 (Sayer).

Here's a new book that offers a different perspective on ISO 14000 than last year's crop of "basics" volumes. "International Environmental Risk Management: ISO 14000 and the Systems Approach" is one of the few books we've seen that mixes basic information on the EMS standard with a discussion of the CERES Principals, Paul Hawken's writings, and sustainability. The book is written by John Voorhees, director of the environmental law practice group of Isaacson, Rosenbaum, Wooks & Levy, and Robert A. Woellner, president of QUEST Management International, LLC; both are based in Denver, Colorado, USA. The authors discuss ways to use the global environmental management standards to manage impacts and risk, as well as legal strategies and voluntary initiatives that companies can use to reduce environmental risks. Had I read "Life After Work" when I retired 7 years ago, the road to a happy retirement would have been with fewer bumps and bruises along the way. A successful retirement doesn't just happen. Respect People.......2005-06-24

The former CEO of Ford Motor Company firmly believed that the way to achieve quality work is to respect people, get them to "buy into" the idea that their work matters, and signficant positive results will follow. The theme of this book is the Golden Rule Jesus taught, "Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you."

Petersen saw the need for this approach to management because he was treated with such disrespect in one of the units where he was placed early in his career. His epiphany was that this work unit was operating in a way that caused misery at work, and mediocre output. He realized that relationships among people in an organization are vital for success. Edwards Deming was brought in as Petersen worked his way up the corporation. Deming's strategies included measurement techniques to gange corporate success. Employees across the board realized that their input mattered, and things changed for the better. Petersen is a good man speaking well. He makes a lot of valid points in this book.

Following the steps outlined creates a road map that can be followed in order to produce results.
