A wonderful book that will help the reader train himself or herself to research and write a stellar business plan of their own!.......2007-10-10
VOLUME 11. I love this resource. I cannot say enough positive things about it. I am a SCORE (Senior Corps of Retired Executives) volunteer who provides business coaching services via email and in-person. I have recommended on almost every occasion that my "clients" who are starting a business and need to prepare a business plan search out for this volume and the others that follow it at their public library, community college library, or university library.
A business plan is a 25-35 page written document that includes the following ten sections:
1. Business History and Outlook
2. Description of Product or Services
3. Market Examination (target market)
4. Description and analysis of Competition (competitors serving target market)
5. Marketing (various options and a plan)
6. Operations
7. Administration and Management
8. Key Personnel
9. Potential Problems and Solutions to those Problems
10. Financial Information (BS, IS, Stmt of Cash Flows)
Included in this volume are the following sample business plans:
1. Adventure Travel Lodging Company
2. Brewpub
3. Cigar Company
4. Construction Development and Real Estate Firm
5. Construction and Home Rehabilitation Company
6. Daycare Facility
7. Food Distributor (template)
8. Giftware Company
9. Handmade Greeting Card Company
10. Handyman Service
11. Hardware Store (template)
12. Homeless Shelter
13. Interior Design Company
14. Interior Painting Service
15. Internet Loyalty Program
16. Internet Services Portal
17. Massage Therapists
18. Mentally Disabled Care Facility
19. Motorcycle Dealership and Racetrack
20. Online Mortgage Company
21. Pizza Parlor
22. Private Investigator
None of the above plans are 25-35 pages long. And few if any have good Financial Information. But what they do provide the reader is examples of how business plans are supposed to present information. You will no doubt see big holes in the sample plans. It is those holes you need to be aware of so you can fill them in when you prepare your own business plan.
Read the plans as if you were going to use them to start a similar business. Ask yourself what you still need to know after reading each plan that you must have an answer for in order to use the plan as a blueprint for actually running your own business. As you do this for each of the plans you will become expert at analyzing and critiquing business plans. And that is what you need to be able to do well when you write your own business plan. 5 stars!

Awesome - Quick BP's.......2001-10-27
Excellent quick read for getting quick BP's. See how the experts do it. What I really like was the editing. It made disparate business plans flow as if they were written by one man. The editing was excellent, bravo!

Book Description
Close-up color photos capture every stage of knitting technique and add meaning to the book's step-by-step instructions, enabling needlecrafters to master more than 50 different methods. They include ladder and mattress stitches, sewing sleeves to body, making button holes, picking up hems and necklines, making pockets, turning rows, casting off with a crochet hook, embellishing with bobbles and tassels, creating knitted flowers and lace, and many more. Detailed instructions for finished projects include a patchwork cushion, a buttoned vest, a cardigan, a knitted purse, and a traditional round-neck sweater. There are more than 250 photos, information on materials and equipment for getting started, a glossary of knitting terms, and even web site resources. Both expert knitters and those who are relatively new to knitting will learn how to give knitted items that truly professional touch.
Customer Reviews:
For every knitter's library.......2006-08-18
I was happy to add this to my library of knitting reference books. It is in depth and easy to understand, also there are some good basic patterns that can be adapted to my own projects.
Finished! My knitting progresses........2004-07-14
Excellent photos. Straight forward instructions. This book is exactly what I needed. It's been the next best thing to having someone's shoulder to look over and watch as they finished a sweater.
I also loved the extras. Embroidery, knitted leaves and flowers, making your own buttons, zippers, pockets, shaping techniques -- and I finlly understand short rows!
This is a nice companion book to my Vogue Reference because it's so focused and expands on exactly the techniques I need as an intermediate knitter as I try to broaden and refine my techniques.
I have looked at the other finishing books. This is the first one I HAD to have.
I would have been happy to buy this book had there been no patterns, but they are a very nice bonus, particularly the women's fully fashioned sweaters. Simple and sophisticated with great details. The cardigan I just finished looks MUCH better than my last sweater as I used the things in this book to finish it.
Book Description
This unique study into the roots of Max Weber's Political Economy, is an intriguing read. Parsons argues that Weber's analysis is highly influenced by the Austrian School of Economics and the relationship between his critique of centrally planned economies and that of Mises. This book is an interesting and valuable contribution to the Weberian literature.

Managing Customers as Investments: The Strategic Value of Customers in the Long Run
ASIN: 0875843328 |
Book Description
In an increasingly complex and competitive business environment, having a goundbreaking new product is no longer a guarantee of success. Seeking Customers explores major changes in the process of identifying and attracting profitable customers, and brings new clarity to the critical relationships among selling, understanding customers, sales force management, distribution, pricing, marketing, and above all, account selection. The book goes far beyond the popular rhetoric of market orientation and customer relationships to argue that effective selling is a dynamic process that demands the commitment of the entire company. Outstanding Harvard Business Review authors such as Rowland Moriarty, Frank Cespedes, Stephen Doyle, Benson Shapiro, and Thomas Bonoma offer original insights and practical guidelines to help managers recognize and meet the challenges of selling today. Together with its companion volume, Keeping Customers, the book will provide managers with the essential tools for attracting customers and forging long-term relationships. A Harvard Business Review Book.
Customer Reviews:
Not much new here.......2000-04-09
Keep your subscription to the Harvard Business Review, but don't buy this book. Shapiro doesn't add much with his dribble of dabbling comments, and his preachy tone gets to be a bit much at times. If you haven't regularly been reading the HBR, or need some introduction to this area, this book is not bad for an introduction or subject review, though.

Some put a premium on personal interactions while others prefer high technology services with the assurance of a personal contact for special circumstances.
