This workbook is a companion to the textbook Likelihood-Based Inference in Cointegrated Vector Autoregressive Models, also published by Oxford University Press. The workbook contains exercises and solutions concerned with the theory of cointegration in the vector autoregressive model. The main text has been used for courses on Cointegration, and many of the exercises have been posed as either training exercises or exam questions. Many of them are challenging and summarize results published in the literature. Each chapter starts with a brief summary of the content of the corresponding chapter in the main text, which introduces the notation and the most important results.

I have done masters degree in MATHEMATICS with statistics optional and have done some management courses also. Here I am a PROFESSOR in a COLLEGE where students do B.SC. from LONDON university under EXTERNAL PROGRAM. One of the subjects I teach is "Elements of statistics". we prepared from this book,new sections were written in very simple way with technical examples and with graphs. My students last year got the DISTINCTION in this subject and this year I am also expecting DISTINCTION again from students. So I wanted to contact the auther and compliment the person. Finally as a teacher I would recommend strongly this book for the students of BSC. for "Elements of Statistics". this is a must read for the said subject.

This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a borderless world, cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market. In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another. In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world\'s major cities for "printing and binding of workbooks and standardized tests for all grade levels" for the year 2007. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. For many items, latent demand is clearly observable in sales, as in the case for food or housing items. Consider, however, the category "satellite launch vehicles". Clearly, there are no launch pads in most cities of the world. However, the core benefit of the vehicles (e.g. telecommunications, etc.) is "consumed" by residents or industries within the world\'s cities. Without certain cities, in other words, the market for satellite launch vehicles would be lower for the world in general. One needs to allocate, therefore, a portion of the worldwide economic demand for launch vehicles to both regions and cities. This report takes the broader definition and considers, therefore, a city as a part of the global market.

This book is required reading for anybody who wishes to understand the truth about Fidel Castro's Cuba and the damage it has done to the United States, Latin America, and the world. The bunglers who convinced John Kennedy (against his instincts)to refrain from removing Castro at all costs while we still could at relatively moderate cost, have the blood of countless thousands on their hands. This "little island" led by a sinister, violent crackpot, has done as much real damage to our interests and to the lives of millions of innocent, decent people, as all our other enemies combined. From 1959 to the present day Castro has been intimately involved in fomenting war, terrorism, and the obstruction of genuine democratic reform in countries the world over. Cuban-backed guerrilla movements, though they wandered into a bloody political and military dead end, did much to rob Latin America of the opportunity for 40 years of political and economic development. Military dictatorships across the continent were provoked time and again by terror campaigns directed from Havana. I could say more, but it will suffice to say I know Cuba well, and this book is true.

You've got to look at works like "The Raggedy Man" in their historical context. When it was written, it was common to have a handy man around and for him to be considered a social inferior to the members of his employer's household.

Riley elevates this handy man. The children love him. The poem ends with the young son of his employer laughing at the idea of being like his father - instead he wants to be a Raggedy Man.

Everytime my little grandson (age 6) finds this book at the local library he has to take it out. For his upcoming birthday I ordered him his own copy. What a delightfully wicked story, written by one Hoosier boy for my Hoosier boy. The illustrations are wonderful as well and add much to this much loved story.

The Gobble-uns'll Git You Ef You Don't Watch Out!.......2001-12-22

I first became aware of this book when I took my then three-year-old son to our library's halloween story time. Both of us fell in love with this illustrator's vision of the James Whitcomb Riley standard. Little Orphant Annie comes alive to remind us all to: "say our prayers", "help the poor and needy ones", "cherish them that loves us", and all manner of good behavior....or suffer the consequences! We checked this book out on a weekly basis until we both could recite it by heart as we drove around town. Quite an accomplishment for such a little guy. I'm glad it's still available--I'd like to give him a copy when he graduates from high school.

Hoosier Daddy.......2005-09-09

There was a time when I thought I was the last American still reading James Whitcomb Riley's poetry. Wrong, of course, and eventually I stumbled upon Elizabeth J. Van Allen's biography of the man. From knowing practically nothing of him, other than William Lyon Phelps' introductory remarks in one of Riley's anthologies, I've come to better understand him through Van Allen's detailed look at the poet.

Her biography is heavily footnoted in the modern way and is somewhat dry reading. The latter is probably partly due to the subject matter--unlike bios of the great and famous who wrestled with huge decisions in dramatic circumstances, Riley led a relatively subdued life. She also takes a reasonably even-handed view of his life and doings, both exposing Riley's feet of clay (alcoholism, dilatory treatment of his fiancees and ultimate hard-hearted indifference, and his endless melodramatic outbursts over his life's circumstances) and the sources of his popularity first with Hoosiers, then the rest of America.

Van Allen is at pains to establish that Riley lived during a transitional time in America, from the sturdy yeoman farmer era to a progressive, industrialized and increasingly centralized existence, an unsettling time in which many Americans looked back and pondered what they were losing. Almost too much so, as her repeated editorial comments on the changes in sexuality, class and caste, middle class expectations, etc. in Riley's day become almost incessant.

And though she is surely correct that Riley chose a certain point of view in his poetry while ignoring the rest--the uplifting over the darkness of life--she goes to excess to claim Riley wrote of a fictive past. I doubt his peers were entirely misled when they praised Riley for putting an accurate finger on America's past pulse.

Van Allen does a good job in tracing Riley's rise in the world, dips and all, and in demonstrating the high regard in which many of the highest elite of literary society held him. And how the mighty are fallen! She quotes Riley as wondering if future generations would esteem him so well. He was right to wonder, as his star which once outshone Mark Twain's has dwindled to almost nothing. Twain meanwhile has permanently entered the pantheon of great American writers.

This book might have benefited a bit from a more sympathetic view of Riley and his time, but Van Allen's take on the poet through her late 20th century trappings is preferable to a partisan defense.

You don't need to have lived in the 19th century to feel what Riley must have felt when he wrote the anguished poem "We Must Get Home." Van Allen's revealing book helps us better understand this man's sentiment and poetry.

An alternative.......1999-11-27

The Kirkus review of James Whitcomb Riley: A Life is hardly a fair one. It criticizes the book because of two opinions of the reviewer that clearly the author had no hope of changing:

1. The facts about Riley are not as interesting as the myths about his life.

2. He was not the author of great literature.

It is, of course, the duty of the serious biographer to present the truest picture possible of the life of the biography's subject. To this end, Elizabeth Van Allen has done a prodigious amount of research in documents relating to the life of Riley. The result is a scholarly but readable and interesting book. She rightly puts to rest the myths about the poet, intriguing though they may be. Furthermore, as a historian, Van Allen discusses the significance of Riley's poetry but does not attempt to defend it as outstanding literature.

Certainly, the biography of Riley will be most popular in Indiana where he is still revered by many, but it also will be of interest to anyone who is interested in American cultural history. In presenting the context for Riley's early years, the author paints a clear picture of life in the Midwest in the second half of the 19th century. As Riley rises to national fame, the reader learns of the role of newspapers as a purveyor of literature in the late 19th century, the national importance of regional literature in that century, and the important role of the national lecture circuit as mass entertainment of the period.

As an immensely popular entertainer on platforms throughout the nation and later through the marketing efforts of his publisher and of Riley himself, before movies, radio, television, or rock and roll, Riley was the 19th century precursor of the 20th century pop culture celebrity. This fact alone makes him a figure worth reading about and the author's authoritative and entertaining book worth buying.
