Book Description
Every trader will appreciate this reliable, realistic, and systematic approach to trading financial and commodity markets. In a step-by-step manner, the author applies a rigorous mathematical discipline to finanical speculation and explain how to analyze markets, forecast price movements, develop trading strategies, and manage trading capital. Kase also unveils several highly sophisticated indicators that are far more precise than conventional technical indicators. Unlike most books on trading, Trading with the Odds contains complete coverage of money management, including the author's own ``Kase Dev-Stop,'' a highly calibrated money management tool. Trading with the Odds also includes: Uses and abuses of conventional technical analysis; New technical indicators for analyzing markets and entering trades.
Customer Reviews:
excellent twist on momentum concept.......2007-10-22
I sensed that she has tremendous amount of trading experience. Simply put, she knows what she is talking about. Along with, not in particular order, Constance Brown, Linda Bradford Raschke, and Robin Mesch, Cynthia Kase once again proves that lady traders are as good as,if not better than, gentlemen traders. Job well done, Ms. Kase.

Identity theft revisited.......2006-03-24
Below is a review of this book by a "Ron Davis" who styles himself as "a proud member of the Market Technicians Association." Bzzzt! I am the only current or past Ron Davis in the Market Technicians Association. Interestingly enough, I also have a successful real estate practice. Quite the coincidence -- makes one wonder.
The "RD" below finds the book to be without substance. Perhaps what one sees depends, in part, on what one brings to the book. I quite agree with the reviewers who say this is not a book for beginners. I had a couple of "aha" moments reading the book, one about Kase DevStops (I'd better have yet another look at those) and one about one of my own proprietary indicators. A few minutes of programming and, by golly, I was able to derive a bit more useful information from my own gadget.
What's this book good for? (1)A trading methodology or (2)ideas about ideas. I'll not broach (1) -- the book does that. I have already mentioned two things that jumped out at me. I also want to take a look at her variation on Elliot Wave counting and targeting. And, on a second read, I may find other things I'd like to fiddle with a bit.
Criticisms: My criticisms fall into two categories (1)purist mathematics nit-picking (I am a mathematician by training) and (2) my laziness/the book's lack of complete exposition. The mathematical nitpicking is not relevant except to a mathematician: for instance, the number of random distributions which are not Gaussian/Normal are at least an order of infinity larger than the number of Gaussian distributions. Should the person who is reading to learn of trading care? I wouldn't think so. My Laziness/the book's incomplete exposition: What? I really have to turn on my brain and think through how to implement the ideas? No cookbook approach here? Of course, if one were being rational, not lazy, one could point out the advantage to having to think: one might actually learn what it is one is doing. And, one might even think up a new idea, heaven forfend.
In conclusion, not only do I resent the attempted identity theft by the person below, but I especially resent being represented as such an empty-headed fool that I cannot see the considerable value in this book.

Trading with the odds.......2006-03-17
Book was quite expensive. $55 for 143 pages. I found some of the graph illustrations difficult to follow since the printing was so bad. Requires many readings to get the full jist of what the author is saying. Overall, I found the book and concepts interesting.
My first post.......2006-01-13
It is amazing how we humans all have our own agendas. Someone founf this book 'useless', some found it exciting...that's all fair...I found it revolutionary (read the post before this one). One fellow bloats his ego and describes how he is a great technician. I'd like to see how his finances compare to Cynthia Kase; as a trader. The proof is in the pudding....
This is a revolutionary book and there are very few out there!
(however, I noticed esignal's add for Kase Statware states 95% successful is predicting market turns...rubbish!)
Still that's a differnet subject, isn't it!
Original and real work to read.......2005-12-06
Cynthia Kase thinks about trading in a different way from most people. She's terrific but you need both brains and some conceptual understanding of statistics to "get" this book.
Just to take an example, I have never heard anyone else explain that risk is proportional to the square root of time (or tick) interval: lower your time span, lower your risk. If that kind of thinking excites you, you're at the right place.

Market Trading Tactics Beating the Odds Through Technical Analysis and Money Management Market Trading Tactics is a handbook of trading tactics, touching on the major charting techniques and indicators. It shows how to formulate realistic money management techniques and helps the private trader use all these indicators to search for the best trading opportunities. It shows how to plan entry set-ups and how to devise disciplined stop-loss techniques. The book outlines a flexible day-to-day plan of action that enables traders of all levels to trade with greater direction and confidence. Author Daryl Guppy also discusses how to go about the daily search for new trading opportunities and offers ready-to-use formulae to ease the process. He explains how best to exploit trading opportunities and discusses managing the position to maximize profitability. The book is supported on www.guppytraders.com with constantly updated material. Guppy takes position-trading beyond the basics as he describes in easy-to-understand detail how it is possible for any trader with an understanding of the market to maximize the prospects of success by using the right trading tactics. "Extremely entertaining and well-written book which explains the ins and outs of technical analysis in a way which is not only understandable but readily applicable. This book is certain to become a standard in the libraries of traders and others interested in the development of trading mastery." - Ari Kiev, M.D., author of Trading to Win: The Psychology of Mastering the Markets "Daryl Guppy has detailed a series of down-to-earth and practical methodologies that provide an invaluable, solid foundation to assessing and managing risk in today's markets. This must be considered as required reading for both new and seasoned investors intending to commit their funds to trading in the equity market." - Ian Copsey, Executive Director of Mandarin Capital Technologies Pte. Ltd. and author of Integrated Technical Analysis "Guppy proves he's no small fish in understanding the art and science of trading. You will learn from this book." - Larry Williams, author of Long-Term Secrets to Short-Term Trading
Customer Reviews:
MMA is worth the price of admission.......2002-07-23
Like a previous reviewer, I was not impressed overall by the book. It has some interesting things to say, but many of the techniques are either very common or don't fit in my trading style. The section on MMA is very interesting though, and it has been incorporated into my trading plan, as I find it very interesting.
The complaint about the authors use of metastock in another review was rather silly, in my estimation; the use is simple enough that any reader should be able to look at the formula and decide they can implement that themselves rather easily (or maybe decide that the formula is not important, and they have elements in their trading plan that already do it).
A word of warning, this is not a day trading book. If you want something intraday or extremely short term (a la 1-5 day swing trading) this book is probably not the best choice.
Read it!.......2001-01-25
I recommend this book to all traders because there are a number of good points and new ideas mentioned in it which I find useful to my trading. It is infinitely better than a lot of the newly-published daytrading books out there.
I trade for a living.......2000-11-16
This is the authors reply to the Singapore review. I trade for a living and the MMA is one of my core indicators. It has been presented in real time at many Australian, Asian and US workshops and is used successfully by many traders and some fund managers. We also show the operation of this indicator in real time in our weekly newsletter. To suggest that chart illustrations are 'fudged' is slanderous and incorrect. With more experience in TA and with modern charting packages, he would note the changes in scaling in the two extracts and still be able to match the dates of the identifie turning points. The depth of market information for many Asian exchanges is readily available from several Singapore based web sites.
This one is for everyone.......2000-10-18
One of the many benefits of this text is the breath of the subject matter. A first read will tell you the the author knows what he is speaking about. The section on Gambler or Trader is worth the price of the book. In fact each chapter has something for the trader or investor. There are many gems here. You only need the experience to realize they are right in front of you. Buy it.
Nothing new here and too much fluff........2000-09-26
I've read many trading books using Technical Analysis and have been practising TA for 4 years now. The author does not bring anything new to the field. His heavy reliance on a certain popular charting software for his stock searches make the approach useless for readers without access to similar software and market information.
Similarly, the section on depth of market is also difficult to implement by most home traders who do not readily have access to this data (ie most Asian countries). Most of what he talks about, typical chart patterns like gaps, triangles etc and even his techniques in money management and market psychology, are nothing new and are available in almost every other book on TA.
Initially, I was interested in his MMA approach but I was suprised that the charts in the book seemed fudged - entry and exit points are inconsistent from one chart to another and seemed to have been moved closer together to make them coincide! Additionally, I cannot see how the author says that his MMA has very little lag since, in practice, the MMA will only give the user a meaningful signal after the market has moved too much away from him. If it is possible to trade with hindsight, the author's MMA looks beautiful.
Overall, I wished I had spent more time finding a better book on market trading tactics. The cryptic chapter names tries to hide the fluff from the book browser in bookstores. My advice is flip through the pages before you buy. There are other better books.

Book Description
There's no secret to beating the races: You pick bets, not horses. There's no easier way to pick great bets than by making an accurate betting line and comparing it to the actual odds you're being offered. That's exactly what acclaimed "Value Boy" Mark Cramer will teach you in each page of this juicy, overlay-seeking read. You'll learn to transform your own handicapping opinions into a focused tool that separates the money-making wagers from the money-burning ones. Best of all, Cramer explains the approach in a down-to-earth way that doesn't require a computer or an advanced degree in math! Required reading if you want to fully understand the concept of value in horserace betting. (Softcover book, 250 pages)
Customer Reviews:
The definitive book on odds-line making.......2001-04-05
Mark Cramer, The Odds on Your Side (Cynthia Publishing, 1990)
Widely regarded as the definitive book on setting an odds line in your Thoroughbred handicapping, and for good reason. Cramer, who's authored a number of excellent handicapping tomes, spends a couple of hundred pages on the concept of value and how to achieve it. His greatest strength is his simple asserion, backed up with a number of examples, that there is no mechanical formula to be used; it's different for every race. He illustrates handicapping as art, rather than the handicapping-as-science approach used by many other books. Definitely a work that belongs in the bookshelf of every horseplayer, casual or serious. **** 1/2

I picked up this book because it looked fun. I kept reading because I was so impressed with the depth of insight. I wish someone had given it to me 10 years ago when I started my business.

Product Description
When the Greatest Generation came marching home, they buckled right down to work. Marching Up Madison Avenue is the story of one of those men. Richard L. Gilbert, born in New York, devoted Giants fan in the cheap seats of Coogan s Bluff; CCNY grad; soldier, returned home in 1946. He needed a job. He found one in advertising. You don t know his name (yet) but you ll recognize his work. In a 40-year career Richard Gilbert and his intrepid staff of copywriters, designers and artists at Gilbert Advertising changed how Americans thought about fur coats, foreign languages, cars, perfume and the Vietnam War. Gilbert Advertising wasn t the biggest shop on Madison Avenue but it was influential beyond its size. From encouraging the Metropolitan Opera to offer less than full season subscriptions (unheard of till 1971) in the Met s first ad campaign; to persuading people Renault had mended its ways (a Renault for the people who swore they d never buy another) to tweaking the tail of the Russian Bear (Premier Kosygin, we d like to give you a free tuxedo); London Fog rainwear; Berlitz Language school, and Club Med, Gilbert Advertising was the creator of iconic pop culture images that remain fresh and persuasive years later. Along the way Richard Gilbert spearheaded the ad campaign that helped end the Vietnam War (The First American Ballot on the War; Some Toys Hate War) and helped litigate protection of commercial free speech. Armed only with a pencil, and indomitable American can-do spirit, Richard Gilbert marched up Madison Avenue into history. This is his story, and ours.

Art of the Advantage brings to life the centuries-old thirty-six Chinese stratagems and explains how they can be applied to corporate or personal strategy. Author Kaihan Krippendorf shows how in using Chinese philosophy, companies can create unfamiliar, cutting-edge corporate strategies that are often unfamiliar to Western companies allowing them to take their western competitors unaware and make them more competitive. Throughout the book, Krippendorf uses ten case studies from the world's top business schools to illustrate his points.

WHere was this published? Yellow uneven Pages!!!!.......2007-02-18
OK I havent read it yet, and it will take some effort to do so. The pages are yellowed, they are cut uneven(A first for me to witness!!)
I have ordered 3 books on chinese issues, and 2 have been scams. OK, there's a lesson there somewhere - buyer beware, especially concerning chinese items!!!
Their economic strategy revolves around/ begins with CHEAP MATERIALS!
BUYER BEWARE!
Good book.......2006-04-23
Good book. The format of this book is similar to the "48 laws of power", except not as elaborate, and its examples not as detailed. I agree with other reviewers that some of the examples are a stretch. However, this is still a good and easy-to-read book on getting familiar with the chinese 36 strategies.
The Advantage.......2006-03-15
This is one of a number of books in English which discuss the 36 Strategems. This group of techniques derive from ancient military experience but can be applied to levels of human interaction including disputes, conflicts, court cases, business development and competition, and general interpersonal relations. While Sun Tzu did not compile these, he often has the most cogent rendering of a technique in his Art of War. This book applies the strategems to business - marketing, competition, etc. That is its strength. One annoying weakness is that the 36 Strategies are not presented in their customary order. This makes this book less easy to interface with other books on the strategems. Still, its a useful book, bringing business world knowledge into contact with this remarkable assembly strategies.
Easy to read, easy to get, easy to put into practice.......2006-02-10
Our company is often in uncharted territory and we have a brand-new business model; this means that we often make decisions on "gut instinct". Kaihan shows us that some of these "new ideas" are actually rooted in the most ancient ones. This collection of wisdom analyzed in a modern context by Kaihan gives us a great validation for what we thought had been random decisions in some cases, and a roadmap for laying down processes and strategies which fit our company size and style. This book helps the Davids beat the Goliaths in the business world. Goliaths can also benefit :-) We are requiring this book for all those who work at Globond and to our Globonders (clients).
Business Strategists - =Must read book.......2005-02-06
While most business-related Art of War books focused more on the theoritical aspects, this excellent book uniquely modelled each of the 36 strategems, followed by lucid visualisation and explanation. The case studies from Fortune 500 companies (about 60 companies such as Microsoft, Coke, Disney, Intel, Home Depot, Wal-Mart and more)are MOST useful in the illustration of applications of each strategem.
Appendix A on "Using the 36 Strategems as Brainstorming Tools" is a hidden gem, useful for those of us involved in the teaching of business strategies.
Appendix B on "List of Cases" is a good compliation of many other case studies in brief - each short case comes with (a) Strategy No. (b) Company and (c) Adversary/Description. [...]
One suggestion for Kaihan and team is to create a website for the books and cases. Very well done, Kaihan! I look forward to reviewing your future publications.

Customer Reviews:
Confused about Estate/Gift Tax? This book is your friend........2007-08-04
I would never suggest to a law student that he or she altogether abandon his textbook in favor of a commercially-available supplement; that's why they call them "supplements" instead of "substitutes." However, to any student who finds him- or herself pressed for time with the final exam looming just days away, I might suggest that you can learn as much from this book in a couple of days as you are likely to learn from your $200 textbook in the course of a semester spent studying the estate and gift tax.
This book does a great job of staying on point, explaining challenging concepts in "regular person" language, discussing relevant cases only as necessary (without belaboring them), and providing realistic examples without digressing too far from the core subject matter. I didn't get the highest grade in the class as some other reviewers claim, but I went from completely confused to fairly confident in the subject matter in the space of about three days.
Great resource for Estate and Gift Taxation.......2007-04-19
This black letter was a great supplement for my Estate and Gift Taxation class. It is very well organized. It also provides many examples on every topic which is great for exam preparation. I strictly used this black letter for exam prep and received the highest grade, so needless to say this book was the key to my success. I recommend this book to any student or anyone wishing to know the ins and outs of estate and gift taxation.
Incredibly Helpful!.......2007-03-20
I recently took estate and gift taxation and this book helped me more than any other supplement. It has great explanations and is easy to understand. I would definitely recommend this supplement to anyone taking a similar class.
