                        I had heard a great many people say how much they liked Fassett's use of color, and so I found this book and explored. I'm glad I did that before I bought it: I have a very different set of sensibilities when it comes to color than the authors of Family Album.

                        I've given it a relatively high score, though, for the nice lines of their clothing and the clear instructions. I am just not the right knitter for their designs.

                        There's nothing here for anyone below the level of an adventurous intermediate knitter (IMHO), but the book itself would be great inspiration to increase your skill if you like their style - great pictures and good-looking models make this almost a coffee table book.

                        The patterns and colors are too overstated for my taste, but it's very clear to me that they love their subject and they give good value in the book (over thirty designs for about $20 on this site).

                        I am really disappointed with this book. Except from a couple designs that I like (see pictures in front and cover pages) all the other designs are really outdated!! Looking inside the book I realized the problem. Although the book was published in 2001 the copyrights for the designs and photos date back to 1990!

                        Almost all the designs have dropped shoulders and are worn with shoulder pads. There is an aran suit (blouse and skirt) that makes a twenty-year-old model look really old and fat. All tapestry sweaters have really big flowers and birds in the fronts (I was immediately reminded of poor Bridget Jones). Most of the aran sweaters and cardigans are too boxy and bulky and one of them, a bobble and cable sweater...well, I haven't seen a sweater with so many bobbles. A couple of jackets have really unappealing large(!!) collars and there is a forties-style twinset...with nothing forties or nice about it. So knitters beware!

                        This book has a good variety of beautiful patterns for the entire family. I have made many sweaters from this book and each one been very easy and clear to follow. Each pattern has a colour photo to help you choose which ones to knit. I highly recommend this book!

                                This offers largely the same puffy Trudeau hagiography that you'll find in the biographies of the man. Quoting Conrad Black's chapter on Trudeau, Mark Steyn of the Telegraph Group says:

                                'Fortunately, Conrad Black is on hand to keep things in proportion. In 'Pierre: Colleagues and Friends Talk About the Trudeau They Knew', Black concludes his appreciation thus:

                                "I always found him a delightful conversationalist and a gracious host, though perhaps slow to reach for the bill in a restaurant, even when we were there on his invitation."

                                5 out of 5 stars ADVENTURES THAT WARM THE HEART.......2001-04-14

                                RIVER STORIES is a heartwarming collection of an adventurous family's life on the river; their perseverance to fulfill a dream and their tremendous endurance to make it come true while experiencing the best life has to offer...the love of family, fresh woodsy air, the peaceful stillness of the forest, wildlife, sunrises and sunsets, the marvelous joys of achievement, but most of all, sharing togetherness on the river. Though poor in material goods, the family rejoices with a richness of spirit, a wealth of love shared, devotion in their faith in God and in each other and the respect they share for each other.

                                RIVER STORIES was a joy to read. Dramatic, yet humorous with strong characterization throughout, especially Dace, the father who taught his family survival with grace and love. As each character is introduced, one feels a kinship to them, almost as if one is sitting on the riverbank, looking in, taking part.

                                I highly recommend this book for children and adults alike...to share together. There should be more of this type of literature for families to share in the market today. I am looking forward to reading more Dee Chamberlain stories.
