Customer Reviews:
A disappointment.......2007-06-10
Although there are many insightful and terrific lessons to be learned here if you are a Pristine Trained Trader you will recognize the book to be a compilation of Paul Lange's weekly trading lessons. A free weekly service from Pristine. I suspect Mr. Velez' name was added for name recognition and, thus more sales. It is Mr. Lange's book, however, make no mistake. That said Paul Lange is one of the most astute traders and best educators around. I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Lange and was constantly amazed at his trading prowess and his ability to convey the information. It's simply this book offered nothing new.
A very poorly written book !.......2007-05-25
I went through this book and its not as good as the original
Velez/Capra "Tools and Tactics for the Master Day Trader" which I purchased in the past.
It's a book you just skim through and that's about it.
I agree with the last reviewer comments. Close to the poorest written book I've read...
Very poorly written, but some useful info.......2007-04-28
This is close to the poorest written book I've read. However there is useful info in it if you can decipher Velez's lingo. Basically Lange, the "co-author" typed what Velez recorded in his classes at Pristine. After I started crossing out hype and BS, I found the book much clearer.
Also I agree with other reviewers comments that the book is an advertisement for Pristine. You can get some details on how Pristies are taught to trade, but don't think like I did that Velez covers much of it.
The hardest part in finding useful info is that it appears Velez is so "elite" that he has to use his own slang in lieu of standard trading terminolgy (Ex: a play ILO a trade, topping tails ILO shooting stars on candle charts.) Velez names trade set-ups as though he discovered them. If he knew candlesticks he would realize many of his ideas are not his discovery. So why name them? Maybe because Velez seems to have a "special" word for almost every normal trading term. That's not teaching, nor conveying information which is what books like this should be written for, that's probably just to intimidate clients, make them feel like he is the master.
I don't know that I would recommend buying it as I own it and am not sure I will ever reread it to jot down the useful parts.
Sloppy edition.......2007-03-20
The senior author uses green and red candles in his website. Hasn't any reviewer, including Velez himself, noticed that the candles' colors should have been changed to black and white before publishing the book? A bad start for an otherwise welcome addition to every trader's library.
Not to be Missed.......2007-03-18
I just finished "Strategies for Profiting on every trade". Just a couple of comments up front; first, I suspect that Paul Lange had much more to do with this book than he was given credit. Second, there were constant references to the color of bars and indicators in the book but the book is in black and white. At one point they labeled the lines "red", "blue" etc. but otherwise, throughout the book you had to find the lines based on the text, not the color.
Having said that, this is not a book to be missed, especially for intraday traders. Although the writers make it clear that most of the techniques can be applied to any time frame and that the daily charts normally set up the trade, you will find charts all the way from the weekly level to the 2 minute level, with the majority of the lessons seemingly taught and the trades played out on the 5 and 15 minute time frame.
This is a much smaller book that the original Velez/Capra "Tools and Tactics for the Master Day Trader" and doesn't contain the psychology offered in that book, but it is, never the less, a book packed with information and insights focused on bar by bar chart analysis, much of it, I believe, gleaned from Paul Lang's daily, live, real world experience in the Pristine trading rooms.
If you are new to Pristine trading methods, this will give you an insight and depth into chart reading that you may not have realized is possible. If you are a Pristine trained trader, as I am, this book reinforces what you should already know but will give you many "gems" that I am sure will be new and of value. In either case, this is a "must" book for the serious trader.

Product Description
The first edition of Simple Wealth, Inevitable Wealth was published around Thanksgiving of 1999. Four months later, the stock market topped out. And the second-longest, second deepest bear market in a hundred years-exceeded only by the cataclysm of 1929-32-began. Simple Wealth, Invitable Wealth has experienced its baptism of fire. Its principles, far from being tarnished by the great bear market of the new millennium, have been validated by it. As I said five years ago on the last page of the first edition. But, using the principles in this book, I could face the bear market as an opportunist rather than as a victim, and keep buying quality managed investments at prices I may never see again.

One of the Very Best.......2007-07-30
Boils an otherwise complicated subject down to practical concepts understandable to all. This book should be read by all financial advisors and do-it-yourselfers. Pay particular attention to the quotation by Satchel Paige! Although not known for financial acumen, he hits the nail squarely on the head.

Storyselling for Financial Advisors : How Top Producers Sell

Customer Reviews:
Excellent if..........2007-05-12
An excellent book if you are a financial planner. It gives you all the ammunition you need to handle the objections of your prospective clients. I am not too sure that it would convince prospects that working with an advisor is the best thing to do even though it is.
Every Investor Should Read This Book.......2002-10-15
Like every book by Nick Murray, this book is excellent. As a financial advisor, this is one book that I would certainly give to every one of my clients and recommend to anyone else, but not for the reasons given in the previous review.
Statistics show the the average mutual fund investor consistently underperforms the mutual funds that he or she owns. Why? Because they sell AFTER the fund has dropped 10% and buy back in AFTER the fund has risen 10%. After five years, the fund has delivered 10% average annual returns, yet the investor has achieved only 5-7% average annual returns (or worse). Murray correctly believes that the secret to long-term investment success lies in the investor's behavior, not in his ability to pick the best stocks or mutual funds. In this, and every other book by Nick Murray, he teaches investors how to fight their emotions and look beyond short-term performance to become better long-term investors. He preaches about the wisdom of dollar cost averaging and about buying stocks when they are "on sale."
Murray also supports his bias toward equities with a clear, concise explanation of the "real" risks that every investor faces. Every investor will get something out of this book.
Must read for clients of financial advisors!!!.......2000-08-31
This book, simply and conveniently, describes necessary investor behavior to accumulate wealth. This is a great book for financial advisors to send their clients and prospects to easily explain the "trick" to wealth accumulation and preservation. Some of the concepts and charts clearly illustrate what most of us try, sometimes in vain, to educate our clients about. Excellent tool for financial advisors. I highly recommend this!!!
Excellent Investment Book.......2000-07-11
Nick Murray does a great job of explaining the concept of investing in mutual funds to creatate wealth. This book is simple and easy to read, a great book for a beginner. The internet has made investing very complex, Nick Murray has made the process simple.
Simple Plan, Great Advice.......2000-03-25
As the name implies, creating wealth truly is simple, and inevitable, if you stick with a plan. This book gives novice investors a guideline for how to get started and to create a plan for creating wealth that you can't outlive and still leave some money to your heirs. I have read several of Nick Murray's books, but this one is the first intended for the general investing public. As usual, as only he can, Nick takes a rather complex subject, and simplifies it so that the average investor, or beginning investor, can understand. If you are looking for the "hot" fund or for a get rich quick scheme, this book is not for you. However, if you are interested in putting together a plan to create the wealth that you desire, I think this book is for you. An easy to read handbook for disciplined investors.

Falling in love with your investments is easy to do. You spend lots of time looking for that perfect company worthy of your money, then you buy it. The more the stock goes up, the more you like it. If the stock goes down a bit, you're usually pretty forgiving. But if it goes down a lot, you find yourself in a big dilemma. Should you hang on, hoping for better days, trusting that your reason for buying the stock in the first place was sound? Or should you admit your mistake, dump it, and move on?
In The Unemotional Investor, Robert Sheard, author of the Dow Dividend Approach and Foolish Workshop for The Motley Fool, offers a way around this dilemma. He notes that the obvious requirement for making money in the stock market is to buy low and sell high, but that most people simply can't do this. "What does it take to buy low and sell high? Surprisingly enough, it takes the polar opposite of normal human emotions."
So rather than try to reverse this investor psychology, Sheard sidesteps it altogether and advances two successful systems for buying and selling stocks. The first follows the Dogs of the Dow, which looks at the highest yielding stocks in the Dow 30. The second invests in growth stocks that also have a high degree of price momentum. Both systems require no knowledge of the companies in which you're investing. Instead, decisions to buy and sell are based on easily-acquired information. Sheard demonstrates how over the years these systems have consistently beaten--by a wide margin--all of the major stock indices.
If you've never consistently made money in the stock market, or if you're tired of the measly returns offered by your mutual fund, consider this book. It's good for all level of investors (except the most jaded) and typifies the best of The Motley Fool. Sheard's writing is clear and easy to follow. Highly recommended. --Harry C. Edwards
Book Description
Investing in Stocks -- Without Investing in Time, Tears, or Terror
When Robert Sheard decided to bite the bullet and get into the market, he wasn't the typical Wall Street player, didn't have years of trading experience, and didn't have an M.B.A. What he did have was the know-how. As one of the top stock researchers for The Motley Fool -- the widely popular and fiercely irreverent financial site that launched the bestselling The Motley Fool Investment Guide and The Motley Fool's You Have More Than You Think -- Sheard developed mechanical, emotion-free formulas for analyzing stocks. Now he shares his insights to help you earn gains that will crush market averages. The Unemotional Investor teaches you:
* How to evaluate stocks
* What numbers to look for and how to compare them
* When to buy and when to sell
* How to manage the portfolio you create
* Two investing models you can use -- one of which requires no math, no experience, and about fifteen minutes of work per year!
Like other books created by The Motley Fool, The Unemotional Investor presents an easygoing approach to a subject often shrouded in mystery, making it easy for even rank beginners to take the first steps toward reaping the rewards of a low-maintenance, high-profit portfolio.
Customer Reviews:
a great Dogs of the Down strategy.......2004-04-23
This book takes as it's premise that you can beat the market. Efficient Market proponents will find it hilarious.
This book is worth it's purchase price for a detailed analysis of variations on the Dogs of the Dow strategy.
The section on growth investing is to the best of my knowledge complete hogwash, data mining at it's worst. But the DOD part I think provides some reasonable investment ideas.
Little Dry.......2003-12-28
I had to skip the first few chapters 'cause he kept talking about his personal life and blah blah. I finally get through that and it starts off w/ Kindergarten level investing. I read through a few more chapters and then I had to let it go. Not for me but not necessarily a bad book.
It works.......2003-10-06
If you're like me and don't have time to pore over the Wall Street Journal every morning or stay online 10 hours a day watching the stock trends, this book is for you. It gives a simple, easy to follow, and "unemotional" system for picking top performing stocks. If the market is doing well, you will too. If it isn't, he describes when to get out. I made money with this system at a time when many of my friends were losing money on their stock "hunches."
Motley Fool rip-off.......2002-03-22
If you have any of the Motley Fools investment books, then this book is a waste of time and money. Robert Sheard, a former Motley fool employee, basically just takes the Motley Fools investment systems and puts a new cover on it, and sells it as a new book. He even re-uses the same jokes. Don't waste your money.
Transfer, please..........2002-03-14
The hard informational content of this book could be presented on a single sheet of 8-1/2 x 11 inch paper. Then again, I'd be delighted to pay [money] for it if it showed me how to pick stocks with a 40% annual return. I don't know about you but I have hard time remaining unemotional when promised a 40% return!
Of course, the real question is: does it work? Well, I haven't risked any of my money trying it out. (Do you think I'm nuts?) But even the author admits his theory is based on only 10 years of data. Whoa! I'll be getting off the bus right here, thanks...
(For what it's worth, the author seems like a nice guy who really believes in his baby, so I take no joy in one-starring his book. I hope he gets his 40%.)

Customer Reviews:
Just as the title recommends: Simple Stock Market.......2001-08-14
I knew nothing about the stock market when this book was recommended to me. In fact, I had resigned myself to never being able to understand the stock market. I came away from reading this book with more knowledge than I thought I'd ever have. This book is an easy read and simple enough that an elementary student will have the tools necessary to be able to start playing the stock market immediately. Highly recommended.
Just what I was missing!.......2000-08-01
Yes, I've been through a lot of the stock market books out there - Wade Cook, William O'Neill, etc. - but not ONE of them could enlighten me on a SIMPLE step-by-step approach to sound investments! I have been an individual investor for many years and have dramatically improved my returns since reading this book by Dr. Michael Duckett. It is both for the beginner and the advanced player. Everyone really needs to incorporate these teachings into their research before laying out one dime! It goes way beyond the basic 10 plays of the wealthy, and into, what I strongly believe is the missing link... how to pick the healthy companies and increase your returns! Thank you, Dr. Duckett!

Book Description
This digital document is a journal article from Journal of Asian Economics, published by Elsevier in . The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.
Description:
This paper examines the profitability of the applications of variable and fixed moving averages as well as trading range breakout (TRB) on nine popular daily Asian market indices from 1st January 1988 to 31st December 2003. The test results provided strong support for variable moving averages (VMAs), in particular, and fixed moving averages (FMAs) in the China, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysian, Singaporean, Hong Kong, Korean, and Indonesian stock markets. The length of 20 days and 60 days appeared to be the most profitable for variable and fixed moving averages, respectively. The technical attractiveness of trading rules offers many profit opportunities for market participants.

This is the book that got me started two years ago........1999-04-15
I would like to thank the author for this book as it is the first one I read on Y2K. It got me started on researching the problem and learning about the metals and investing. After reading a few other Y2K related investment books (my favorite is The Survivors Guide to the year 2000 by David Epp also available on Amazon.com. I heard him on Tony's radio program) I am making over 20 percent per month in the market. If what these guys predict comes true I expect to win the lottery in a few more months. And I won't be the first one they have helped become a millionaire.
The financial info you need to make intelligent choices.......1998-12-10
The Year 2000 has been dumped in all our laps. Tony's message is loud and clear. Understand how you can be impacted, and take the necessary actions. He not only explains what is going to happen, but why it is going to happen. He offers a variety of scenarios that the reader can take to insure his or her financial health, post 2000. This is a source book for many of the articles and thoughts of the experts.
Very helpful outline of situation; author's credibility high.......1998-08-24
Just saw the author on CSPAN with Sen. Horn and Koskinen from the White House - an excellent program. Keyes describes the Y2K situation in a refreshing; 'I'm learning, too' style so that average people can understand. I also appreciated that he refers to established, well-known experts to make a point so we're not expected to rely on his observations alone. I think the errors mentioned by another reviewer are from the transcripts of live conversations from Keyes' radio program - understandable when considering he's talked to a wide variety of experts with varying degrees of comfort on the air.
General information on what "investment attitude" to take.......1998-03-29
Good general information about what attitude you should take in dealing with investments. The most notable information was a small piece of hidden information about the 400 year leap year adjustement that is also due in the year 2000. I wish I had more information about this topic.
"buy gold, y2k stocks, sell everything else" - what's new?.......1998-02-09
not much new in this book. it contains little new info on the y2k problem, and nothing that is not immediately obvious in terms of investment alternatives. ok, there is a year 2000 problem and it may cause economic disruptions. but, like every other crisis - the best way to get rich is to write a book about getting rich. save your money!!
