Better than average.......2006-02-14
The most interesting concept in this book is the discussion of Payout and Payback periods. Every trader will be able to relate.
There seem to be times when nothing goes right, and other periods where one can do no wrong. The author stresses recognition of the phase that you, and the market are in, and alter trade size and agressiveness accordingly. Traders at all levels may be aided by taking this approach, or at least giving some thought to whether one is in sinc with the market or not.
The balance seems to be geared toward the novice trader, and is not a bad addition to a newcomer's trading library. Certainly, many, many worse books are read each day.
Why waste time and money on books like these?.......2005-08-28
Before you are going to spend any money to buy this book, think about this:
"If he is so successful in trading futures, and became a master and making tonnes of money, why does he bother to write a book to teach other people his successful methods?"
Is Warren Buffet (the second richest man in the world) writing a book to teach people how to invest in stocks and become as rich as he is?
If you find out a way to make money in trading futures, would you have any spare time besides growing your portfolio to millions? Why would you even want to teach others to compete against you?
Excellent Book...........2004-08-29
in which Mr. Yoder presented his approach to trading futures and the setups he pulls trigger on. His methodologies may not work for everyone, but his presentation of them is clear and down-to-earth. You may scoff at the simplicity of his trading style, but, if you ever traded for a period of time, you know that every word he writes about his trading experience rings true.
Mr. Yoder elegantly summarizes the mastery of futures trading by quoting a beautiful passage from Mark Twain's "Life on the Mississippi," in which Twain remarks:
"Now when I had mastered the language of the water and had come to know every trifling feature that bordered the great river as familiarly as I know the letters of the alphabet, I had made a valuable acquisition. But I had lost something, too....All the grace , the beauty, the poetry had gone out of the majestice river!"
The same is true of trading. Once you have mastered the "language" of trading, i.e., learned to process the signs that the market presents to you unemotionally, all the mystery of trading is gone. What remains is just your trading plan, your setups and your stops--no excitement and no holy grail, just routine.

I wasted my money on this book, but I didn't waste my time -- at about page 40, I started to skim thru the rest of it.
The book contains the usual caveats and recommendations concerning money management, except for a "Rule of 10," which
really did not fit in. Basic explananations included are chart patterns, support and resistance, and candlestick reversals.
Then, fully 94 pages are devoted to a self-indulgent log of 6 weeks of trading by the author, listing subjective interpretations of events in making trading decisions. How we are to become "masters of futures trading" by reliving this undisciplined hodgepodge, I do not know.
If you have not already done so, investigate the books of Perry Kaufman, Alexander Elder and Jacob Bernstein, and get your time and your money's worth.
Best I've read...and I've read a few.......2004-07-01
By far the best trading book I've ever read. Clearly written, well thought out, and to the point. Mr. Yoder seems to be an extremely intelligent guy who has learned how to profitably trade through years of experience. His "units" money management concepts are uniquely his own and worth the price of admission. For the first time, I have a confidence about what I am doing and why...and I'm making money!!!
On a 1* to 5***** scale, I give it 6******!

Not worth your time.......2002-08-17
I recommend not buying this book. I did on the stength of some good reviews on this web site and some good words by Trader Vic. The essence of the book is to use stock screens to look for good stocks, and then use technical analysis to decide when to buy. It's a reasonable premise. In the first edition the two model portfolios returned about +25% and +90% in about a year. That's pretty impressive but occurred at the top of the stock market. In the second edition, two new model portfolios were created. I checked the prices and about a year later, you would have lost almost 100% in each portfolio. I'm sure the author is honest and sincere. However, his methods do not work. In the first edition, he was simply lucky.
Magnet Investing gets it right.......2001-01-26
Magnet Investing is a refreshing approach to investing which provides a methodology for investing rather than the typical hype found in many investment books. The approach is easy to follow and there are many examples for the reader to learn stock selection, as well as buy and sell signals. The approach strikes the right balance between technical analysis and common sense. I found the book to be useful, well written and would highly recommend it.
Magnet Investing 2nd edition-great book.......2000-12-31
I decided to buy Magnet Investing after seeing Mr. Kimmel on several CNBC and CNN segments. This guy knows his stuff and his book reflects it. He has a trademarked stock selection process, and the stocks it picked in the first edition of his book returned 90% in 12 months. This book is filled with information for all levels of investors and provides lots of tables that give a historical perspective of the stock market. Although I felt I didn't need it, the book has several chapters for beginners on how to plan and manage a portfolio and then covers information for more advanced investors including asset allocation and when to buy and sell. Then he turns to the Magnet Stock Selection Process and shows the reader how to use your computer to set up searches using specific criteria for selecting stocks. Finally there is a chapter on tax efficiency and recommended reading and internet sites. The book is loaded with great charts and tables. It's one of the best investment books I've read...and I've seen most of them!

A "must" for every investor's library.......1999-09-01
Wow-this book really simplifies the stock selection process. I'm an experienced investor who has lost money in pure momentum stocks. I see this guy on CNBC and Bloomberg quite a bit and he seems to know his stuff. I agree with Standard & Poor's great endorsement "Magnet Investing provides an insightful look into the stock selection process. It will be a great boost to professional investors, as well as ones that only dabble in stocks." The first several chapters teach investors how to develop a disciplined approach to the market and then describes a new trademarked system that selects stocks based on a well defined set of criteria, combining value and momentum. If you have a PC, you can access this program through Telescan or set it up with another screening service. Then, with the click of your mouse, you can pick a pool of stocks that have the potential to be great performers. The system has averaged a 30% return per year over the past ten years. The trial CD from Telescan is an added bonus. I think the author's system is one of the best I've seen.

Proposition 13 has created wide disparities in property taxes between homes purchased more recently and those owned for many years. Although the steep recession in California from 1991 through 1995 reduced some of these disparities, it also led to a crushing workload for California's understaffed and underfunded property tax assessors' offices. As property taxes fell, hundreds of thousands of residents and businesses filed appeals for reassessment. Many counties are still working through a twelve-to-eighteen month backlog of cases. This report examines disparities in property taxes since the passage of Proposition 13 and the effects on property tax administration in California.
