4 out of 5 stars Great Start, For Beginners!.......2007-07-10

This book is wonderful, especially for folks without a lot of business background. It was very helpful for me when I began to interview accountants.

This book does an excellent job of educating the average person & Small Bussiness Owner on how to structure a business and to legally take advantage of the Internal Revenue Code. It gives great examples, and gives step-by-step guidelines that I actually understood and used.

There are a few typos, but overall a very informative book.

4 out of 5 stars Straightforward information on common tax risks and opportunities.......2006-11-06

This clearly written book offers a handy guide to tax strategy for the rich and for those who hope to be rich. Author Diane Kennedy, a certified public accountant, provides basic information on common tax risks and opportunities. Without using burdensome jargon, she explains the fundamentals of financial reports and record keeping. Her approach is commonsense and straightforward she doesn't make outrageous promises or exotic, inapplicable recommendations. The title is slightly misleading. This book is not really about loopholes, but rather about sound planning and management - especially for business owners. It does get into the minutiae of tax law, which is subject to change, so some of the details may have a short shelf life, and much of the advice will have little applicability outside of the United States. Nonetheless, we recommend this basic guide to anyone who needs a fundamental introduction to personal financial and tax management in the U.S.

5 out of 5 stars Information Packed Book! Lots of Great Tips.......2006-04-11

I thought this book was excellent! I learned quite a lot from reading it and hope to really apply what I have learned to my finances. It was jam packed with helpful tips and ideas on how to take full advantage of tax loopholes. I would recommend this to any small business owner!!

1 out of 5 stars simplistic.......2006-01-23

Not very well written. Its is simplistic & somewhat condescending.
Later chapters tend to repeat basic concepts covered earlier without expanding upon the issues. There are more knowlegable authors out there that are refreshing and can effectively advance the your knowledge.

2 out of 5 stars Read it and weep.......2004-03-18

This book makes a lot of assumptions. It assumes that the reader is EXTREMELY well versed in corporate tax advantages. It assumes that the reader already owns a corporation. It assumes that the book will be read with a dictionary of financial terms close at hand. (It should be. The book is poorly written, with key terms lacking adequate defenition.) I support the Rich Dad series. It is a great way for a beginner to get their feet wet. This book assumes that the reader can already swim! Even the seasoned incorporator would probably not be pleased with this book. Tell you what, if you are considering buying this book, save yourself some money and just send me ten bucks. I'll then call you (on my own dime) and summarize the book for you. Oh, what the heck, I'll do it now, for free...surround yourself with a competent team of advisors.

2 out of 5 stars A middling text that doesn't translate well to audio.......2004-01-19

This book is intended for fledgling entrepreneurs, and as such its title is somewhat misleading. Rather than discussing obscure "loopholes" in United States tax law, it concentrates on relatively basic business structure and investment strategies. The abridged version is very short, and the presentation tends to degrade into little more than descriptions of different types of corporations, and other fundamental information obtainable from resources far better than this.

I do not recommend the CD audio version of the book. I found author Diane Kennedy's flat, tinny reading voice and artificial inflection to be grating and unaccommodating. Unfortunately, even when Kennedy is insightful and objective, the book's dialogue and narration sound like a 1950s educational film.

5 out of 5 stars Loopholes of the Rich.......2003-04-15

As a fan of Kiyosaki's, I was excited to pick-up Diane Kennedy's Loopholes of Rich. It was a great read and chocked full of insight.

Some of the tips actually helped me save money on my taxes this year. It is definitely worth adding to your collection. I am re-reading it right now and keep finding gold nuggets of helpful information.

3 out of 5 stars Tax Strategies for the Rich and those that want to be Rich.......2003-03-12

The Rich Dad Poor Dad series of books created by Robert Kiyosaki helps people to understand how it is that some average, hard-working people propel themselves out of the middle class, while others work just as hard but can't seem to get anywhere. This guidebook is another example of the excellent material published in The Rich Dad Poor Dad series. It focuses on how to get the right information from the right advisors.

In my corporate and tax law practice, I often instruct my clients to read this book as homework. It provides a basis of legal and tax information that most people have heard of but were afraid to ask. Thus, the book eases communications between a client and his or her legal, financial and tax advisors by giving the client an understanding of what's relevant to their planning strategies. Clients who better understand the principles of legal, financial, and tax planning will get more out of the relationships with their advisors.

The book also helps people to understand the psychological difference between being a worker and being an entrepreneur. The average investor or small business owner makes his or her money on raw talent and perseverance. Their only difference from the sophisticated and highly successful entrepreneur is a lack of self-awareness about the direction they want to go, how best to get there, and who to turn to for advise along the way.

4 out of 5 stars Good starter book to learn more.......2004-06-05

This is an excellent book to give you a taste of how you can leverage corporate structures to your advantage. It's not a detailed "how to" book but it does review the various structures (C Corp, S Corp, LLC) and how they can be used to keep more money in your pocket or provide asset protection.

Throughout the book, "real life" examples are used to better illustrate the subject matter including computer consulting and real estate. The author explains that you should create a support system around you - people that are experts in their area: accountants, attorneys, etc. Leverage their expertise, ask them questions, and have them do the work you shouldn't be doing.

The author assumes that you have, or are creating, a business. She points out the tax advantages to the corporation and "paying yourself first" when it comes to the tax-man. Included are lists and lists of expenses and other items that can be paid for by your corporation and lower your tax liability.

If you want to get a taste of what you can do, get a copy of this book and go into it with an open mind. All of the subject matter is legitmiate - there is nothing illegal about it. I've used many of the tatics described in the book and they've worked great for my business.

5 out of 5 stars Loaded with Helpful Strategies .......2007-08-26

Very informative. This book is full of great strategies of how to maximize your return and how to protect your real estate investments and retire comfortably. You will learn how to choose the right asset protection for your investments, how to maximize your real estate investments to your retirement advantage, the use of 1031 exchange to pass on assets to your kids without paying capital gain tax, how to mix and match business entities if you have multiple RE investments in different states, learn the advantages and disadvantages of a Nevada, Wyoming, California, Texas corporation or LLC. After reading this book, I attended a seminar with the co-author lawyer, Garrett Sutton, at a National Real Estate Investment Club Expo in L.A Convention Center. We had a Q&A after his presentation. This guy really knows his stuff. He seems to be a nice and humble person. If you are a RE investor or thinking of becoming one, I highly recommend this book. I also recommend that you consult with his office for asset protection. He does business over the phone for all states. You can also get lots of tips and info in Garrett Sutton's websites.

5 out of 5 stars A Solid Foundation for launching a RE Investing career..........2007-08-20

Of all the Real Estate "How To" books and programs I've purchased over the years, one thing was always lacking...the legal aspects of holding and protecting the property. A few may have touched on it, but nothing as meaty as this book. Very informative and easy to understand. Buying real estate without reading this book would be like going into combat without weapons and body armor...at some point you're going to end up getting killed ( or sued ). In this day and age where people are suing fast food restaurants for making them fat, or cigarette companies for giving them cancer, don't think some tenant won't sue you some day for something equally as stupid. This book is super cheap insurance...buy it if you're seriously considering real estate investing.

The money you will save buying this book will save you thousands! It is a reference book that help you avoid all the common tax and legal problems when investing in real estate.

5 out of 5 stars The ultimate get started book.......2007-04-10

This has been one of the best books on real estate I have ever read. I am just about to get started and will definately put this book into action. It is hard to get all of the topics for real estate into one easy to read format, but the Rich Dad advisors have done it and with a little flare. It is an easy read and good for anyone serious about getting started or if you have made mistakes along the way.

4 out of 5 stars Wall Street Journal Guide to Money and Investments.......2005-12-29

This book will assist in deciding the proper mix and timing
of your portfolio holdings well into retirement. For instance,
people at mid-life should consider investing in tax exempt
municipals and tax deferred savings. Real Estate is an important asset which you will use while it appreciates in value. Reit
investments should be entered into with great care. Capital
gains taxes associated with sales of capital assets should be
delayed for as long as possible.

The work will assist you in crafting a personal investment
portfolio taking into account risks and rewards.

The WSJ branding led to my buying this book without serious browsing. Found out later that the only saving grace of this book is that there are a number of URLs scattered through out the book, and listed at the back of the book in an Appendix. The other aspects like readibility, classification of information, ease of use, are all pretty bad. There is significant amount of information that is repeated in multiple chapters - almost as if you are reading a collection of WSJ articles accumulated over time. Chapter 2 dedicated to IPOs and Chapeter 3 dedicated to Day trading made me wonder why I bought this book... My more immediate concerns were about MFs, Bonds, and websites for sophisticated tools, preferably low-cost or share ware. MFs and bonds were covered reasonably later.

Bad editing job. I hope the authors can make a book out of these random notes (if they are contemplating a second edition). Definitely needs some good body to glue together all the URLs.
