Book Description
With the recent fluctuations in the market, people are becoming more aware of the need to become financially savvy. Yet financial fears still abound: fear of the market crashing, fear of making poor investment choices, fear of not being able to send their kids to college. The Unofficial Guide to Investing demystifies the range of investment options available today and provides practical tools that will help readers make financially sound decisions. For the financial bystander who is timid about investing and confused by the buzzwords, this book explains where to begin, how to start researching without feeling awkward, how to find your comfort zone, how to invest online, how to plan for retirement, and how to avoid getting burned. It goes beyond just comparing mutual funds to relieving the anxiety surrounding the issue of investing.
Customer Reviews:
A guide for investment-challenged and knowlegeable readers.......1999-07-02
This book has everything for those of us who are timid about investing. Ms. O'Shaughnessy shares insights and information which help both the novice and experienced investor navigate the world of stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. She uses anecdotal and even personal stories to inform and amuse throughout the book. There is an incredible amount of valuable information and tons of resources for the reader, and Ms. O'Shaughnessy covers the pros and cons of many investment topics. This user-friendly guide is a winner!
Excellent!.......1999-05-03
Over the years, I've concluded that most financial books are unrealistic in the marching orders they give us, their poor readers. I'm a long-term investor (not a day trader!), so I don't appreciate a lot of fancy financial formulas that require a great deal of thought or time. Thank goodness the author of The Unofficial Guide to Investing understands that. She provides solid advice that makes an awful lot of sense to me. I also appreciate all the tips she sprinkles into the book's margins. For instance, I discovered how I could very easily determine how much my savings bonds are worth. I also learned the phone number to call to find out how much my Social Security benefits will be worth someday.
The Unofficial Guide to Investing is wonderful........1999-04-03
The Unofficial Guide to Investing is wonderful. If it wasn't, I wouldn't be dragging this fat book around in my brief case as I travel around the world on business. I'm too busy to spend a lot of time reading or even thinking about my own finances, which is why I especially like this book. It covers all the bases and the author writes in a style that is fun to read.
Best book on investing we've seen........1999-03-22
This book is engagingly written with wit & humor as well as lots of factual material and sound advice that you can actually use. Clear and straightforward for the novice, there is also lots of information and advice on on-line investing information and tools for the web-accessing sophisticated and savvy investor. Whether you are a novice or an experienced investor, Ms. O'Shaughnessy serves you up lots of good advice and information with respect and gentle humor. A good read, and a keeper for later reference with wonderful resource and reference material as a supplement at the back. - A San Diego cardiologist
This book is a page turner and a profit maker!.......1999-02-24
In the past, I've approached all investment primers with the same enthusiasm I reserve for visits to the dentist. But after my first half-hour with this one, I was happily hooked! Not only is the investment advice top-notch, but the method of delivery outstanding. O'Shaughnessy exhibits an amazing ability to make sophisticated concepts digestible. Her breezy writing style makes the advice seem like it's coming from a trusted friend, and her sense of humor keeps you smiling while you learn how to make that first -- or second -- million.

If you think the only path to riches is through the stock market, then think again. In The Unofficial Guide to Real Estate Investing, Martin Stone and Spencer Strauss show how to generate financial security one property at a time. The authors, both real estate brokers, illustrate basic concepts such as researching and valuing properties, obtaining financing, managing tenants and expenses, and dealing with taxes. They believe that the "biggest little secret" in real estate is the tremendous leverage that investors can enjoy. They write, "If you have $9,000 to invest, for example, you could buy $9,000 worth of stocks, bonds, coins, or art. With $9,000 to invest in real estate, however, you could purchase a four-unit FHA apartment building worth $300,000." The book includes hundreds of tips on everything from how to minimize vacancies and be a good landlord to making an offer and working with contractors. Well written and easy to read, The Unofficial Guide to Real Estate Investing is a solid introduction for anyone seriously considering real estate as full- or part-time source of income.

Customer Reviews:
It really depends on your level of experience..........2007-05-09
as to whether you will find this book helpful or not.
When I first entered the real estate market, I was a novice investor. I found this book to be very helpful and insightful and gave me a good solid vocabulary enabling me to converse intelligently with the Real Estate agents I was working with. I am now a full time Real Estate Agent specialing in commercial real estate and I continue to recommend this book to my customers with little background in Real Estate investing and purchasing.
If you are a seasoned investor with many purchases in your background and portfolio, then this book may not be for you. While you may or may not be aware of the many calculations and insights this book offers, I believe it is still a worth while addition to an investors library.
If you are new to Real Estate investing I highly recommend this book. It contains many helpful calculations and insights to give you a good solid background of what you need to know to invest in real estate.
The calculations are real world examples used in practice by both Residential and Commercial Real Estate Agents. It offers topics on Creative Financing, Property management as well as an overview of the various types of Investment properties.
Good, simple and to the point.......2007-05-07
Like most Unofficial Guide, this is no nonsense, yet authoritative and useful. I would recommend this book for first time investors in real estate or even for people who may have done some investment in the past but want to become serious in real estate investment.
Book is dividied into 7 major sections - Understanding Real Estate as an investment, Secrets of real estate investing, Mastering the Market, Setting your investment goals, Putting your money on the line, property management essentials, Facing your fears.
I think most initial investors (prime target audience for this book) will find section 1, 2 and 6 useful and something they should read as part of their preparation for starting a real estate investment career. Other sections are well written and will probably be used more as reference as opposed to an end to end reading during the first skimming through the book.
Just The Facts.......2006-01-30
If you want a no nosense book about Real Estate Investing this is the book for you. No fluff, just basic things you need to know in order to be successful. I recommend this book highly.
Basic real estate investing book, nothing special.......2005-05-20
This is a beginner book on real estate investing, it covers all the essentials, but in a very boring school textbook style. It is so generic and so ultimately forgettable, there is not one piece of information that isn't covered in any other REI book with better insights and more detail.
Buy this book before you start........2005-03-08
I purchased a duplex 18 months ago and a triplex 6 months ago. I wish I had this book then. There are several things I would have done differently and many of my questions would have been answered. It's a great book for a starter. I give it only four stars because it gives little description on closing costs of properties but besides that it is excellent for people purchasing 1 to 4 unit properties. Tip: This book is at the library for free.

Customer Reviews:
A wealth of information on mutual funds........1999-10-06
As a seasoned investor, I have read countless books on this subject matter. However, I found this particular book to be very well written and extremely difficult to put down. Especially, during those times when I learned something new. This is a great book on mutual funds and belongs in every serious long-term investor's library.
She points way to profits in bad times as well as in good ........1999-05-05
What most of us need is a guide for all seasons...and this seems to be it! It really isn't true that anyone can make it in a strong up market. Just look at the majority of mutual funds that lag the S & P right now! And what then can we expect when the market turns down? It always has and it likely always will.
Stacie Zoe Berg makes mutual fund investing understandable to those of us who haven't the time to become experts. She leads us on the frenzied ascent to market tops...But, she also leads us through the frightening market wilderness on the downside. There's always risk, but for those of us who stay the course sensibly, Stacie Berg's formula should be just what we've been looking for.
And, Mr. Publisher, Stacie Berg wrote the book...She didn't just edit it. You need to get that right, also.
A complex subject made understandable.......1999-04-18
Hats off to Stacie Zoe Berg for making a sometimes confusing and incomprehensible subject not only understandable but enjoyable as well!!
This was an excellent source of information........1999-04-08
I knew very little about investing in mutual funds prior to reading this book, but now feel comfortable giving it a try. What a great book!
Best Mutual Fund Book I Have Read!!.......1999-04-03
This was a remarkable book. I couldn't put it down and read it from cover to cover. There was so much information contained in the book. I already new some information about mutual funds, but this book taught me a whole lot more that will really be useful in helping me make money with my money. It is a must have book for any financial library.

Customer Reviews:
An Exceptional Guide to Investment and Money Management.......2000-12-16
The Unofficial Guide to Online Investing by Henry Robb is an excellent guide for the individual investor. If you're looking for an extremely thorough, reader-friendly, comprehensive reference tool for not only online investing but a myriad of other vital financial concerns, look no further. It's obvious that the author took great pains in putting this book together. It's wonderfully written in an interesting, easy-to-understand style that doesn't intimidate or confuse the reader. On the contrary, you get the feeling that Mr. Robb has been an investment veteran for a number of years and through his day-to-day experience in dealing with the various financial markets, he has gained a great deal of wisdom on the subject.
The information, which is meticulously organized, is highly objective in nature. The author paints a very honest, if sobering view, of the overall financial picture, and he gives the reader an opportunity to find out about him- or herself with the inclusion of various personality assessment exercises. They were very helpful in gauging where I stand regarding investing, and they'll provide a basic framework or starting point, if you will, for my future investment decisions.
Lastly, I would like to reiterate that this book discusses a wide variety of financial issues within the context of personal investment. That is a key reason why I believe this book is so useful. Its scope as well as its careful attention to detail makes The Unofficial Guide to Online Investing a truly wonderful source of information, as it addresses just about every kind of question relating to individual money management.
Should be titled "The Unofficial Guide to Personal Finance".......2000-08-26
This book should have been titled "The Unofficial Guide to Personal Finance". Only Part IV, chapters 10 through 13, about 160 pages are devoted to online investing, and it's at a very elementary level. The rest of the book deals with bank accounts, credit cards, debt reduction, insurance, taxes, and other personal finance issues. If you want to learn about Online Investing, leave this book on the shelf and look for another book which has doesn't have all this non-Online Investing stuff. Leave this POS on the shelf.
An Outstanding Reference.......2000-04-15
I just finished reading "the Unofficial Guide to Online Investing". This is a great book for the beginner through experienced individual investor. Robb covers all the critical topics in stages, increasing detail with each stage. What results is an excellent tutorial/reference (not to mention an easy read) concerning all aspects of investing. Starting with setting your house in order to planning and executing an investment plan. Well Done!

Social Identity Processes in Organizational Contexts

Book Description
Organizational Citizenship Behavior: Its Nature, Antecedents, and Consequences examines the vast amount of work that has been done on organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) in recent years as it has increasingly evoked interest among researchers in organizational psychology. No doubt some of this interest can be attributed to the long-held intuitive sense that job satisfaction matters. Authors Dennis W. Organ, Philip M. Podsakoff, and Scott B. MacKenzie offer conceptual insight as they build upon the various works that have been done on the subject and seek to update the record about OCB.
Key Features:
- Explores how OCB translates into objective measures of efficiency, profitability, customer satisfaction, and other criteria of organizational functioning
- Examines how important OCB is in other societal cultures and correlates findings from North American studies
- Addresses the relative importance of individual personality as a factor in determining OCB
OCB has become a foundation for concepts in Organizational Studies. This book provides an all-encompassing resource for students, scholars, and practitioners looking for a comprehensive understanding on this key topic. It is an excellent textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate students studying organizational behavior or organizational psychology in courses such as Strategic Human Resource Management, Measurement of Work Performance; Behavioral Organization Theory; and Social Psychology of Organizations.
Customer Reviews:
how job satisfaction affects productivity and success.......2007-03-06
Pragmatically, the most obvious use of this book is to understand how job satisfaction can affect a person's productivity. The book cites numerous studies that survey satisfaction and attempt to correlate these with measures of productivity. In the book's title, citizenship refers not so much to nationality, but to being in a work environment.
From productivity, the book looks at how it affects job success. There are several criteria commonly used, including task performance and "citizenship behaviours". The latter is a catch-all for typically measuring how well someone fits into her professional environment, as evaluated by her peers and supervisors.
