Book Description
Reliance on opportunism is a high-risk strategy in global business, yet many companies operate this way, often acting on limited amounts of information. Equally, many other companies implement strategies based on models formulated in the teaching rooms of business schools or the back recesses of consultants' offices. This book lightens the dark corridors of strategy development and shows its readers how to build strategies for success in the international marketplace that take account of all the critical factors involved while allowing the use of personal judgment and process sureties. We call this the WRAP process.

Book Description
Personal Finance for Overseas Americans is a personal finance guide written for Americans who live overseas, or plan to. The basics of financial planning and money management are included, but so are many little known and little understood aspects of financial life for Americans living outside of North America.
Customer Reviews:
Not about living overseas at all!.......2005-05-20
I am seconding the earlier review posted which made the point that this book contains largely generic financial advice, with almost nothing related to living overseas. A _big_ disappointment.
Deceptive Title.......2003-07-20
A better title might be: Basics of Personal Finance
I did not find this book helpful at all with regards to the financial considerations of moving and living abroad.
Solid, concise advice for expats.......2003-07-08
For those of you who live abroad but often times find yourselves too busy to pay close enough attention to your finances, this compact book is for you. I've lived overseas for over 15 years, and Ms. Frew's book helped me better grasp not only the basics I needed to better understand my investments, but also more advanced taxation and retirement issues. I found the worksheets particularly useful. Bottom line is that if you live abroad and don't have time to take a seminar in personal finance, you'll find this book to be a great primer, and a useful resource.
Little to do with liviing abroad.......2002-12-19
I couldn't have been more disappointed by this book. It was 95% basic finance topics and 5% dealing with finances for living abroad. And the 5% was so basic that it was barely worthwhile. Not only was the book mistitled for it's content, but the style was condescending and repetitive. It's the first time that I'll be returning a book to Amazon.com
The Fundamentals of Managing your Finances from Abroad.......2001-05-06
Barbara Frew covers all the fundamental points and strategies for managing your finances - whether abroad or in the U.S. The distinction between the two is increasingly that, while abroad, you cannot go to see your bank manager and must rely on other resources for advice. Personal Finance for Overseas Americans is that other resource. Ms. Frew covers the big picture - putting first things first - without forgetting to plan for retirement and unexpected events that may happen when you are away from your hometown. The expertly designed book takes you through all the steps from getting your life in order to planning your future in terms that do not assume anything about the reader. Readers with some background in the field will read the book for the expert advice while novices will learn the basics of their own financial health, how the worlds of banks and insurance work and how to review your own financial situation. After reading this book you will be ready to plan and monitor your financial health and to enjoy living overseas without wondering how you will fare when you come home.

Book Description
As a busy business manager, would you like to spend less time budgeting, and learn more from the budgeting you do? If you answer yes, then Budgeting à la Carte is the book for you.
Most books on budgeting advocate a comprehensive, "seven course dinner" budgeting system. But unless you're the CEO of a major corporation, this is too much informationâmaybe way too much. What you need instead is Budgeting à la Carte: a menu of budgeting options that allows you to pick and choose only those items that suit your taste, appetite, and business situation.
Explained in detail by bestselling financial author John A. Tracy, this comprehensive resource covers the full range of budgeting procedures, including:
- Income Statements
- Balance Sheets
- Operating Ratios
- Profitability
- Cash Flow
- Price and Volume Tradeoffs
- Cost Allocations
- Capital Investments
- And more . . .
Budgeting, Tracy shows, is not an end in itself. It's a set of tools you can use to maximize financial performance and position. With Budgeting à la Carte, you'll control the tools, and you can decide just how much and what kind of budgeting is right for your business.

"[If] you would like to have a minimal understanding of the numbers that make up a balance sheet, income, and cash flow statement . . . then How to Read a Financial Report might be just what you are looking for. Customer Reviews:
A useful book on management accounting.......2002-05-09
A concise yet very informative book for managers interested in running a business 'by the numbers'. It is written in a very practical and easy-to-understand manner. I utilize many of Tracy's ideas in my own job. The book deals not only with budgeting but with management reporting, break-even analysis, project anlysis, and accounting issues in both service and manufacturing enviroments.

Financial Statements: A Step-by-Step Guide to Understanding and Creating Financial Reports
ASIN: 0814471226 |
Book Description
Outside of the accounting and finance departments, not many business people are interested in the finer points of financial reports. But every manager must have a thorough understanding of what their finance and accounting staffs do, why they do it, and what these reports really mean.
This indispensable book demystifies the role that accounting and finance play in a corporation and demonstrates how financial decisions are manifestations of company goals. The author's crystal-clear examples show how managers can connect corporate financial information directly to their own strategies and actions. To demonstrate these connections, the author covers such essential topics as:
* Balance sheets and income/cash flow statements * Reading and understanding annual reports * Fixed-cost and variable-cost issues * Financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting.
Customer Reviews:
If you want a basic intro ..........2007-05-02
If you are looking for a book to introduce you to the basics of business including the jargon behind the numbers and where all the formulas come from before you plow into a true "finance and accounting text," search for "Business Basics Bestseller 1" and add it to your consideration. If you have never had this stuff 'splained' to you before, you will like it. This is not a suggestion that you substitute it for this text, just that you check it out as well.
The Essentials of Finance and Accounting for Nonfinancial Managers.......2005-09-15
Book was well written and speaks directly to someone who has never worked with the finances of a corporation.
How to understand the basics of a balance sheet.......2002-08-08
Edward Fields' Essentials Of Finance And Accounting For Nonfinancial Managers tells how to understand the basics of a balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement and annual reports. Newcomers to reading company financials will appreciate the clear explanations on investment returns, analysis ratios, and other methods of understanding business reports.

If you find most accounting guides as complex as accounting itself, you'll love this itty-bitty guide, full of practical techniques that show you how to analyze financial statements, interpret financial data, and measure business performance. On every page, clear text and illustrations cover each aspect of accounting principles and practices, while simple checklists enable you to calculate ratios, identify creative accounting, and make sound financial decisions. And throughout, accessible charts and diagrams explore different options for financial planning and forecasting. Granted, if you're looking for specific or in-depth guidance, you may find this book too general in its approach. But if you're looking for a thumbnail guide to the basics, it'll do just fine.
It's worth mentioning that the book is also part of reference publisher Dorling-Kindersley's Essential Managers series--20 itty-bitty books on business and career topics ranging from communication, leadership, and decision-making to the management of time, budgets, change, meetings, people, projects, and teams. Combining the For Dummies series' talent for breaking down a lot of information into bite-sized bits and sidebars with Dorling-Kindersley's signature, crisp graphics on a gleaming white backdrop, they don't represent the cutting edge of business thinking and they don't necessarily reflect any unique individual perspective.
Instead, it's as though someone collated the best general thinking on these 20 topics and rolled them out into 72 brightly designed and easy-to-read pages, studded along the way with boxed tips, color shots of a multiracial cast of "coworkers" animatedly hashing through the workplace issues of the day, and a self-test of one's skills in the topic at hand on the last few pages of each volume. Again, they're not for anyone looking for in-depth or focused help on any of the subjects they cover, but they're perfect as a quickie general-interest reference... and let's face it, they're so cute, and look so smart in a neat little stack or row, that you'll probably want to buy a whole bunch to give to your entire department or staff. --Timothy Murphy

Customer Reviews:
It's really not that good, but it was worth my time reading it.......2007-08-06
This is one of those books I bought in the airport. I'd probably buy it again at an airport, but I wouldn't buy it on a place like amazon, where there's a better selection of basic accounting books.
All I wanted was a quick overview of different accounting concepts, and it did give me that.
But, it's really not a very good book. It's very choppy, and I asked a real accountant about a few terms they used in the book, and he said, "I've never heard that term before."
The pictures and illustrations are sometimes unintentionally funny.
If you read only one book on accounting....make it another one.......2006-12-19
I write as the manager of a small business who hoped to learn something useful about the money side. Yes, the book is encouragingly small, brightly colored, and beautifully laid out in the usual user-friendly Dorling Kindersley way. Unfortunately, for me, this is where the positive aspect ends. The basics at the beginning of the book were fine - Who Uses Accounts, Defining Key Concepts, and Understanding a Profit and Loss Account. This took me to page 21 (of 69). When I got to balance sheets and cash flow, the information was tightly packed, but I think I just about understood current and fixed assets, and most of what was written about liabilities. As soon as I got to cash flow, the information overload was becoming too much. I was understanding the overall concepts, but there was too much information for the number of words on the page. The detail became too much to absorb. The following sections cover numerous topics in overview - concepts are introduced but there is nothing here to make the information stick.
After reading this, I've come to think that an introduction to accounts needs to present the information much less densely and have plenty of examples and exercises, as well as review. After all, the reason to read a book like this is not because one loves the idea of accounting per se. It is to get something useful or applicable out of it. The back cover blurb says the book will "show you how to", "enable you to", and so on. I don't think the book fulfills this promise. I began this book with a hazy knowledge of accounts. I leave it with hazy knowledge of accounts. DK, I love the design of your books, but more thought needs to be put into the content of this one.
easy to understand quickly.......2001-03-13
if you want konw something about the account, this book can do it in frist step.it is easy to understand quickly.
