4 out of 5 stars One stop shopping.......2002-04-17

We ordered the book to answer ministerial-specific questions concerning housing allowance, medical reimbursement, income vs. social security taxation, gifts vs. salary, etc. This book addressed every single issue. In addition, it even included invaluable sample minutes that can be adopted by the church to set up a tax-deductible health or reimbursement plans. The Fringe Benefit Chart put all the information onto one easy-to-read page.

The book explained how to accurately fill out IRS tax forms with existing data. It is written as a workbook where you investigate one specific topic at a time, not a book that you would read cover-to-cover. The "big picture" is sometimes lost in the details.

I would have liked to see more "suggestions" or "tax hints" about how to set up a good compensation plan. I yearned for an appendix that would take a couple common situations and explain the "big picture" by specifing how the compensation could be designated, including what church actions (minutes) and accounting records would have to be kept to make all this legal.

I would highly recommend this book as a technical resource if you plan to do your own taxes.

In the past 50 years, a rigorous, measurement-based methodology called Six Sigma has brought production management to previously unimaginable levels of success and sophistication. Indeed, Six Sigma has found widespread application in every significant industry and business—except marketing and sales.

In Sales and Marketing the Six Sigma Way, sales and quality guru Michael Webb shows how to blend marketing and sales efforts with the cutting-edge methods of Six Sigma to boost their bottom lines. With Webb’s book as a guide, readers learn to engineer rapid routes to customer value, accurately predict future revenue, and ensure return on investment for their projects.

In Sales and Marketing the Six Sigma Way, you will:

              * Find out why ""the usual fixes"" for sales problems don't work

              * Meet executives who have used Six Sigma to imrpove marketing and sales results

              * See the pitfalls that await the unwary when applying process improvement in sales

              * Learn how to introduce Six Sigma to sales and marketing professionals

              * Discover through examples and cases how to manage sales as a process

Webb walks readers through several Six Sigma sales and marketing projects from start to finish, highlighting the tools, decisions, and results that made them successful. He shows the practical methods managers use to translate process improvement principles to the human world of selling and marketing.

With his dual background in sales and marketing management and in quality improvement, Webb speaks clearly to readers in both disciplines. This makes Sales and Marketing the Six Sigma Way the indispensible guide for sales and marketing professionals who want to excel in today's business environment, and for quality improvement experts who want to help them.

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional book for improving results.......2007-10-14

Whether you call it six-sigma, kaizen, lean or TQM, the concept has had a revolutionary impact in manufacturing, propelling, for example, Toyota to the top. It turns out the same basic concepts powerfully apply to sales and marketing. This book details how in a very readable manner. Webb shows us how to make sales and marketing into a process that systematically can be improved. Very insightful examples. Right now most sales and marketing decisions are made on hunch. This book helps us make them on the basis of fact. I strongly recommend it. It presents good idea after good idea.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read for CEOs Tired of Same Old Sales Excuses.......2007-08-17

This book tackles the central marketing problem of our time ....too many suspects, and an ever dwindling number of qualified prospects. Mr. Webb untangles this problem and then shows you how to design a selling system to be an ever improving "machine". A fun read with lots of how-to and examples.

5 out of 5 stars Merging Six Sigma with Sales & Marketing.......2007-07-20

Michael Webb has done a fantastic job with merging the six sigma methodology with the sales & marketing disciplines. This book takes the six sigma practice, that has long been used in the manufacturing circles, and applies it to the sales function in a way that is both concise and understandable. Six sigma promises to change the future of sales just as it has manufacturing, and this book is the road map for that journey. I would not only highly recommend this book to anyone in the sales and/or marketing arena, but consider it a must read.

5 out of 5 stars Sales & Marketing the Six Sigma Way.......2007-04-03

I found this book invaluable. As a brand marketing consultant I face a barrage of misguided engineers and production minded individual who deam marketing as puffery. This book provided me a greater insight in turning these folks into marketing partners. Engineers and marketing consultants have more in common than they know - Sales & Marketing the Six Signa Way identifies how these two can and should come closer together to seek and implement the voice of the customer in establishing and marketing superior customer value.

              Book Description

This easy-to-understand reference helps you bridge the GAAP to Lean accounting. It articulates the best attributes of Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints, balanced scorecard, activity-based management, and other world-class management philosophies in a single text. It provides simplified applications of the balanced scorecard and activity-based management as tools and enablers for use with throughput accounting and illustrates a new business, accounting, and reporting model that utilizes the components of throughput accounting for application with Six Sigma and lean manufacturing programs.

Organizations using traditional accounting systems and concepts have difficulty coping with the speed and acceleration created by lean programs. The author's profit-focused accounting approach will enable organizations to accurately measure and report the results of Lean Six Sigma efforts on a monthly basis. Dynamics of Profit-Focused Accounting does not suggest throwing out existing accounting systems or generally accepted accounting principles, but rather shows you how to bridge the GAAP to a Lean accounting system. It also presents advanced concepts and methodologies that encompass corporate performance management and provides the tools and techniques to use these concepts to increase profit, create value, and build a solid foundation for the future. This book is a must-read for manufacturing managers, executives, financial managers, cost and management accountants, and controllers.

I found this publication very informative as in a single source, I was able to read about all of the productivity methods and measurement tools in the marketplace. As a novice to concepts like Six Sigma and activity based costing, it was a great to find in a few pages an explanation and practical implementation tips for these concepts and more. Starting with the overall history in this marketplace and then moving quickly into practical guidance, the author displayed a great command of the topics. I also saw how he blended the productivity measures to create a more meaningful accounting of a business operations....I just wish more companies took this approach.

Being competitive has always been about change and adapting to new paradigms. This books and its theories are a "next generation" of principles that move accounting systems into the next century. Just don't tell your competition about it.

5 out of 5 stars A Lean Manufacturing must read.......2004-11-06

Lynn's book provides a very good overview of the methodologies being used today to improve corporate performance. We have suggested the use of this book to several of our clients so that performance improvements resulting from Lean Manufacturing and Lean/Six Sigma implementation can be accurately measured and tracked. 5 out of 5 stars A double fist pump.......2004-10-23

A very substantive and motivating read. Lynn did a great job of capturing me while showing me the way to how corporate performance managment will take place in the 21st Century. The material is integrated and very useful.

5 out of 5 stars At Last, An Accounting System for Lean Manufacturers! .......2004-08-17

Operating a lean manufacturing facility is much different than a traditional order launched batch based operating system. The concept of eliminating all non-value adding activites while producing only customer demand flies in the face of the standard cost absorbtion based cost accounting systems used today. Not only does his book discuss the challenges of Lean to GAAP accounting systems, Mr. Northrup desribes alternative accounting methods and the ways to implement them within the guidelines of GAAP. This is a must read for the Lean Manufacturer!

              Book Description

What would happen if everyone in your company followed a disciplined approach to cost reduction? How can it be done? With smart cost management. Two powerful strategies-target costing and value engineering-will get you well on your way. You will find both in this comprehensive book, the first in a series guaranteed to increase your profits. Effective cost management must start at the design stage. As much as 90-95% of a product's costs are designed in, meaning they cannot be avoided without re-designing. That is why effective cost management programs focus on design and manufacturing. The primary cost management method to control cost during design is a combination of target costing and value engineering.

1 out of 5 stars Not just a waste of money but also a waste fo time.......2004-01-13

Organisations are complex structure and different organisations exist in different competitive environments and most of all provide different services.

Unfortunately this book does not take account of the differences. It draws black and white pictures of the organisation and its processes. It does not go into detail in how to structure and implement Target Costing and where the hurdles and challenges are.

It is full of buzz words that sound great but have not real meaning.

Worst of all is that one could summarise the 350 pages of the book to a maximum of 30 pages without loosing content.

                          Book Description

Quality costs help to show the importance of quality-related activities to management; they demonstrate the cost of non-quality to an organization, tracking the causes and effects of the problem, working out solutions using quality improvement teams and monitoring progress. As a technique in the introduction and development of TQM, quality costing is a powerful tool for enhancing a company's effectiveness. Quality Costing provides pragmatic advice on how to set about introducing and developing a quality costing system and using the data that emerges. This third edition (strengthened by additional data from a range of organizations) provides sound practical guidance on how to define, identify, collect, measure, analyse, report and use quality costs. This established text has proved invaluable to managers and quality professionals, students and academics alike - the new edition ensures its continued position as the leading book in the field.

                            Product Description

This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A414773. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: Security requirements for a task, system or network may permit the selection of a range of underlying services or security behaviors. When a range of services is available, variant security is possible. Variant security permits the notion of Quality of Security Service (QoSS) to be introduced. This paper describes a quality of security service demonstration, specifically with respect to costing. We describe the network as having three modes: normal, impacted, and emergency. For each of these modes, the user is given three possible security levels: low, medium and high. A variety of security services contribute to the overall security of each task. Each service has two costs: an initialization cost and a run-time cost. The demonstration illustrates the costs incurred as network modes and security levels are changed. High level and detailed specifications are provided.
