A very systematic approach to Financial Accounting.......2000-08-19

I read this book as a part of my Accounting class in my Masters program. The book has a very systematic approach to teach the basic accounting principles. It has very nice real world examples at the beginning of each chapter. The chapters are in a very orderly manner. I did not have an accounting background at all. But the book taught things in a way that everything made sense chapter after chapter. Each chapter conveyed ideas that were basis for the subsequent chapters. The organization of the book is one of the best among the text books I have read. Every chapter has a demonstration problem that covers main concepts in that chapter. In addition to that there are quick check questions within the chapter which helps you to stop and recollect whatever you learnt till different points in a chapter. Reading this book is never tiresome because of this. Also there are problems in each chapter that if worked out properly will provide a very thorough knowledge of key concepts. As a whole, I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to start start learning Accounting. There are very minor errors in the answers given to some problems. But the way concepts are presented is very crisp and clear.

Book was a little more used than described, but hey for the price it couldn't be beat. To bad my sylabus was wrong and the professor changed the edition. Anyhow, seller was excellent. Fast shipping and I would reccommend.

My first accounting book.......2005-02-16

I used this textbook for my first accounting class and it was by far the best. Examples are all spelled out step by step and the numerous exercies and problems contribute to a higher level of understanding. Buy the workbook offered. It will save you a lot of time normally spent setting up the problem. Much better then some of the higher level books I have used.

Fundamental Accounting Principles.......2000-12-12

This text was VERY helpful. The illustrations and examples were enough to explain the topic without havung to read the entire book.. Also the problems given at the end of each section were very good. Some were tough; however, the author starts you out with easy problems and works up to the more difficult ones. This text definitely is a good learning aid.

This book is easy to read and navigate, but it seriously weighs a ton. It must be close to 7lbs.

Clear and detailed book.......2004-07-14

Design:
Well-designed with appropriate section headings. There are also short notes by the side of the pages, emphasizing the important points. Colored boxes were used to show illustrations and applications of real issues.

Content:
This book is based on the U.S. accounting standards. It is very factual, detailed and clear in explanations. There are also well-illustrated examples to enhance students' understanding of the concepts. Issues covered include classifications of items in the financial statements and measuring the items accurately. Ethical concerns are also addressed in the classification and measurement.

For who:
Definitely a good book for students seeking understanding of the concepts behind U.S. accounting standards. As the title suggests, students should have prior knowledge of accounting like basic bookkeeping and double-entry rules. However, given the changing business environment and recent accounting scandals, students should also visit the SEC websites and read the news for better understanding and keeping up-to-date with accounting standards.

5 stars for the content, however, I gave it 1 star because the software EXPIRES on August 30, 2003 (less than 9 months from when I purchased the software and wrote this review). After the expiry date, you are conveniently prompted to where your may purchase a new version of the software (I tested it by changing the date on my computer). The expiry date is NOT mentioned anywhere on this website, unless you look carfully at the picture of the front cover ("look inside").

Without question the most interesting (just plain fun) of all the brief and/or electronic accounting books available. You "play" this serious academic CD similar to the way you play sophisticatred CD games like "Sim City 3000". And, the playing is so enjoyablle that you're unaware that in the process you've learned all of the basic fundamentals of financial accounting most anyone ever needs to know.!
