Book Description
The New Iraqi Dinar Investment Guide provides an in-depth analysis and discussion of the recovery efforts in Iraq as they pertain to the risks and potential rewards of an investment in the new Iraqi Dinar. It approaches this potentially lucrative investment from a detailed consideration of the social, political, and economic dynamics that will ultimately require a delicate balance, if Iraq is to regain or even surpass its previous economic strength. As well, mentioned at length are what the author feels to be the most important factors to consider when purchasing the Iraqi Dinar, such as the amount, the source, and management of the investment. In addition, this book provides many alternatives for investment in Iraq, including instructions on how to open a foreign exchange bank account to obtain the Dinar at the exchange rate, as well as opening a brokerage account with a participating overseas brokerage firm in order to invest in securities in the Iraqi Stock Exchange. It is perhaps the only or at least the first such book of its kind in the world and is a must read for anyone considering an investment in the Iraqi Dinar or for those who have a general interest in Iraq.

Consolidated information on ID.......2006-08-22
The ID was often a topic of discussion during deployment, as discussed with foreign nationals, field grade officers, and other service members.
The author did a good job of bringing a lot of information together. If you have not extensively studied the region or have not lived there, you will likely find the book informative.
An unusual book, probably one of the few on this topic.
Recommended for people interested in Iraq or speculating on ID.
A "Must Have" if You're Serious.......2006-06-13
This is a great book because it doesn't waste time telling any stories. It gets down to the bottom-line: What should you know about Iraq, it's people, history, and so forth, in order to consider investing in this risky currency. He does a brilliant job of addressing the risks while discussing the potential rewards and ends the book with a pros and cons summary to allow the reader to decide whether the investment suits their risk level. If you are even considering spending money on the dinar you really should check this book out.
Now I feel Like a Dinar Expert!.......2006-05-02
Before I read this book, I was not sure whether to invest or how much to invest. After reading this book, I have a different view now and I have decided to invest. Now that I fully understand the risks and reasonable expectations, I can sleep better. This book helped condition my mind for what to expect and it gave me an excellent foundation to do my own research as things continue to change in Iraq.
The author does something that is very difficult to do with any investment; he explains and weighs the risks. Like myself, most dinar investors focus on the rewards too much and that causes us to be out of touch with reality. This book provides an objective view of the dinar by a man who obviously understands how to analyze investments. This book is well worth the price and probably a lot more.
An investment in the dinar is filled with complexities at many levels, and the author has done an excellent job of presenting critical information and allowing one to make the best decision for their situation.
A "much needed" guide!.......2006-04-08
It is excellent reference guides such as this one that will allow us to better understand Iraq, its people, and its future economic potential.
The author uses his expertise, and a realistic approach to weigh the pros and the cons of this "prototypical" investment.
"Is the dinar a good invetsment?"
This a question that I have heard and hear on a daily basis from clients. My answer in the past was a simple "the pendulum can swing either way, please invest with caution."
I am happy and thankful to Mr. Stathis for writing this book because I can finally recommend serious material for my clients to read, and allow them to properly decide for themselves.

Good-looking but hard to lug.......1997-05-19
Insight's City Guides combine stunning photography with literate text and a smattering of basic travel information. The Insight Venice guide is worth adding to your bookshelf, but its practical advice is getting a bit long in the tooth and its heft makes it less than ideal as a take-along guide. - Durant Imboden, Venice for Visitors, http://govenice.miningco.co

The Art of On-the-job Writing.......2007-07-16
The Art of On-the-Job Writing is reference guide for anyone who writes as part of their job. This book explores ways to reduce writer's block and how to create writing tailored to the aim of the piece without excess wordiness or confusion. Techniques include the PDQ (planning, drafting, and quality controlling) writing process and the 4S Plan (statement, support, structure, and style) for completing any written work. Embedded examples and exercises to practice each of the key concepts are included.
The Art of On-the-Job Writing simplifies writing any business document into easy to understand and replicate steps. These steps not only take the writer from any writing assignment through to a polished writing product but also help the writer through common pitfalls such as writer's block, disorganization, and wordiness. Moreover, these methods and steps explained in this book are flexible enough to be used in virtually any writing situation, be that a simple email or memo or a longer more formal report or technical manual.
Customer Reviews:
Great resource.......2007-09-29
I bought this book to prepare for a writing workshop that I was giving for a group of homeschooled third to fifth graders. I had seen the third grade version and was very impressed with it. It was also interesting to see that my fourth grade student who does not enjoy writing could be seen peeking at pages in the book and then actually picked it up and started to read it!
I find Write Source to be an excellent resource for teaching the fundamentals of writing. It goes through the writing process - Prewriting (Outlining), Writing, Revising, Editing (Proofreading) and Publishing and also shows the student how to properly organize their writing and how to make his/her writing interesting for the reader. It goes through the traits - ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency and conventions. The book also has rubrics to help the student (and teacher) judge the writing.
The only complaint I have has nothing to do with the book, but with Great Source, the company. They have a software program that looks like it would be great for having an independent eye to look at your student's writing; the software is not licensed for homeschoolers and the lady I spoke with seemed to have an axe to grind with the fact that I am a homeschooling mom. If I hadn't already seen the quality of the book from another homeschooling mom, I would not have bought it. I was happy I was able to buy it from Amazon and not have to have any more dealing with the company.
If you're looking for a writing resource that you and your student(s) will enjoy using, try this - I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
Book Description
For professionals and students alike, the first-ever guide to newspaper copy editing and headline writing.
Everyone in the newsroom agrees that copy editors are the unsung heroes in the business who, until now, have never had a succinct and authoritative guide for on-the-job use. From counting the headline to line breaks, from decks to jumps, from editing numbers and photo captions to editing for organization, The Copy Editing and Headline Handbook is the complete source of essential information for the copy editor. Whether copy editing on a computer or on the printed page, for a newspaper or for a magazine, Barbara Ellis shows how to clean, organize, and proof copy like a pro. With special sections on libel, captions, forbidden words, job hazards, and head counts, as well as a section of the most commonly used symbols in copy editing and proofreading, the Handbook is essential for every copy editor's bookshelf.
Customer Reviews:
Copy editors may/might quibble but writers will love it.......2001-11-23
First: I bow to the professional opinions of earlier reviewers, copy-editors all, I suspect. They found fault (of course; it's what their profession does) with Dr. Ellis' book. I didn't. As a magazine journalist who has frequently struggled to tell a story well, I found her book useful, intelligent, and surprisingly entertaining. Her advice on how to pick a "hot quote" or how to end a hard news story are worth the price of admission.
Get me rewrite.......2001-09-19
I realize that anyone who writes a book about editing is practically drawing a bull's-eye on his or her back. (Yes, I know some people disapprove of "his or her" as a way to avoid pronoun disagreement; deal with it.) That said, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that "a cold-eyed genius of a managing editor" would have his name spelled Carr Van Anda instead of "Carl." Not as bad as misspelling, say, "Webster." Or "AP." But honestly.
Sorry, but I just did not find this helpful either for its headline advice or its copy-editing insight. Nothing new."When Words Collide" is much more useful.
Fine For What It Is.......2001-08-22
This book is better than most of the books out there, but that isn't saying a whole lot. Virtues: 1) The book isn't too dogmatic. It recognizes that different copy desks have different policies. The most important style rule of all is that, "If your boss has a rule that's different from the AP rule, your boss is right." 2) Ellis talks a fair amount about the politics of editing. 3) Many of the revised examples are better than the originals. My experience with other copy editing books is that the edited versions tend to be as bad as the originals. Gripe: The book just isn't detailed enough to answer the questions you actually have when it's you against encroaching barbarism. The book is better than books like the Strunk and White book that focus solely on what literate people already know, but it doesn't, for example, discuss the word "like" the way I just used like. Yes, Winston cigarettes should taste good, *as* good cigarettes should, but is it really OK in semi-formal English to write "books like the Strunk and White book," or do I have to write "such as" in place of like? Another example is the hyphens in compound modifiers. Why does the Wall Street Journal hyphenate "real estate" and AP not hyphenate it, even though AP is the one promoting the use of hyphens in compound modifiers? What do you do about those horrible companies that capitalize their entire names, or insist on starting their names with strange symbols? I guess the lack of detail isn't really Ellis's fault. She's only one person and can only do so much. The problem is that doing a guide that answers all the questions needs to be a team effort. In theory, of course, the AP style book is supposed to be the bible, but the version available to the public is miserably incomplete. In a perfect world, the AP style committee would get together with all the other major style organizations, hire some top editors, linguists, etc., and come up with a really good style and usage encyclopedia. But, of course, they're all up against that encroaching barbarism problem, so I guess this is never going to happen.

Customer Reviews:
Great proofreading resource.......2007-10-08
I've been doing some freelance proofreading work, but I didn't know how much I still had to learn until reading this book! Sue Gilad has a lot of information: everything from grammar rules and spelling mistakes to the differences between copyediting and proofreading (glad SOMEONE could finally pinpoint the differences!). This book is clearly written and a wonderful resouce. The only thing I think it could have improved upon was the secion for finding freelance jobs. In Gilad's online book Paid to Proofread (paidtoproofread[dot]com), she offers more in-depth suggestions about creating a resume from zilch, and also ofers more in depth info about approaching editors. On the other hand, the Dummies book contains way more information about resources and grammar. All in all, this is the most comprehensive and clearly written book on proofreading I've read.
very helpful.......2007-06-05
easy to read and great info on editing and how it can work for me and my career. enjoyed learning from it...highly recommend it.
Terrific resource!.......2007-06-04
This book is easy-to-read, straightforward, and so informative. I've been able to build my at-home business as a freelance proofreader much more quickly than I anticipated; all thanks to this invaluable resource! Learning the ins and outs of copyediting and proofreading is made simple, quick, and fun.
better than I thought!.......2007-05-24
Such a surprisingly helpful book. Thought it might be boring or bland...but truly it inspired me to consider this as a career. Suzanne's writing is understandable and she makes the topic completely approachable. What a surprise find on the subject. Thank you!
The Book I So Did NOT Expect to Love.......2007-05-19
I picked up this book not knowing it was new, and, boy, was I surprised by its depth and scope. A collector of word-nerdy goodness, I wouldn't have expected this book to be so entertaining. I definitely recommend it to anybody who hopes to augment their current careers with editing, or possibly spin off into a business of their own.
