Book Description

Significant sales opportunities exist in newly emerging markets around the globe--and many of them are missed. Because sales and marketing executives lack familiarity with the structure of the markets and the risks of working in them, Miller says, they often have little understanding of how to enter them. In this unusually well-researched book by an experienced international marketer, Miller concentrates on the unique characteristics, opportunities, and sales methods associated with newly emerging markets. He pays special attention to economies in transition in the newly independent states in Russia and the rapidly expanding markets throughout Eastern Europe. His book will be essential for organizations contemplating expansion internationally and for executives and scholars in educational and multilateral institutions with important interests in understanding new markets and how to benefit from them. Miller maintains that because of a lack of familiarity with developing countries, executives in many organizations perceive inordinate risk in doing business with them. His book attempts, therefore, to provide the experience and insights that many well-trained but internationally inexperienced managers lack. He defines the typical characteristics of these markets, the factors that are important to market selection, and ways to reduce operating risk. Of critical importance is the choice of an appropriate market entry strategy, and Miller focuses on the relative merits of different types of foreign representation, plus the advantages and drawbacks of strategic alliances that involve direct investment and technology transfers. The result is a timely, useful, readable volume for sales executives almost anywhere, certainly for those in companies that have come to understand the importance of doing business globally.

It clearly instructs readers how to how to build sucessful sales networks and create lasting local business relationships. 5 out of 5 stars Informative, Interesting, and Practical!.......1998-09-16

As the Director of Training Development for an American based international company, I found this book to be extremely informative, very practical, as well as an interesting read. An unusal combination to find in business books. Miller obviously knows his subject and is able to convey his valuable information in a very readable manner.

5 out of 5 stars Novice at Candlestick Charting.......2007-07-08

Great book, great content. You really need to absorb the direction of the method by reading this book 2 - 3 times. This isn't because of poor writing. This book is well written. It is due to the mindset required to fully understand the patterns for a novice like myself. I did find that it is one more tool to use to validate a trend or reversal. it has helped me with more than one profitable decision.

5 out of 5 stars Great stuff.......2007-06-09

Morris' explanation of the candlestick system for analysis of stock price trends is very thorough and easy to understand. Remembering all of the patterns is a bit overwhelming, but you do begin to develop a sense of what the candlesticks are saying that eventually makes understanding the patterns easier.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic tool for learning to use Candlesticks.......2007-04-17

I am quite surprised at how useful the book is for my trading. I'm currently a day trader that trades momentum. I have been starting to use Candlesticks in the last year or two to try to enhance my entries and exits. My profitable trade percentages are increasing and my trade exit timeliness is getting better (thanks to candlesticks). The whole candlestick concept was hard for me to swallow but the more I got into it, I realized it was a visual pattern recognition concept. The book does a great job of explaining all of the useful candlestick formations as well as backing the explanations up with examples. I really liked the second half of the book that did a very thorough statistical analysis of the candlestick signals over multiple timeframes. I learned alot from the book and will add its extensive data into my stock trading techniques. Well done....

5 out of 5 stars Great Candlestick analysis.......2007-03-09

Great book if you are learning about candlesticks as well as chart patterns: Reversal, continuations, etc. Detailed explanation, statistics and more...
I found it really helpful.

4 out of 5 stars Candlesticks Made Moderately Easy.......2004-01-13

Good book for someone who doesn't know anything about candlesticks, but I think you need to have some sort of understanding of investing before reading this book. The reason why I gave it a 4 star instead of a 5 star was because this is the first book on candlestick I've read. I haven't read another book yet on this topic.

Read this book the first time when I bought it several months ago and got a glazed over look in my eyes because I had no clue about any of it. However, as I let some months pass by and got better with my technical analysis utilizing other charts like MACD, stochastics, MA, BOP, TSV, MS, etc....the terminology and how the market moves allowed me to better understand what I was reading in Morris' book.

It would've been nice if he had a simplified table of the various individual candlesticks and what they represented and another table of the reversal patterns in bull & bear markets.

I like how the chapters were formatted in the reversal chapter. This was a long chapter and probably could've been broken down into shorter chapters to better categorize various reversals.

I have been able to validate some of the reversals by experience. I wasn't sure if I was reading the candlesticks correctly and went against what I read. The candlesticks were correct and I was wrong. Good thing I am learning about this when I don't have lots of money to lose yet.

All in all, I will read this book to glean even more information from it. I've already read it twice.

5 out of 5 stars ALL YOU`LL NEED.......2003-12-15

I have read some negative comments here about this book not being detailed enough etc... but it gives very clear, understandable explanations of all the patterns, and they are all grouped in an excellent orderly easy to find fashion. Other books of this kind may be a bit more detailed but they are a difficult dry read, far too lenthy and not as organized nor as well written. Greg morris delivers all the neccessary goods in this book.

5 out of 5 stars WELL WRITTEN.......2003-12-08

This book is an excellent reference for all the candlestick patterns. I like the fact that it has a pattern breakdown for every formation and also data on how well the patterns perform as far as accuracy at the end of the book. The descriptions are clear, concise and very well organized with great illustrations and psychological explanations behind the candlestick moves. I found this book an easier more understandable read than nison`s books on candlesticks and for less than half the price. I keep this book close by whenever i need to review a certain pattern, its very easy to flip through and find any of the formations since they are all neatly grouped by category, which i like. I think its the best.

5 out of 5 stars at the price the best.......2002-08-16

A great question is which is better: Nison or Morris? Nison is for those who use indicators; Morris is the purist using only volume.
Reference book? Morris gives you the picture and the explanation in an easy format and an index to find it. He also breaks the candles into groups and types. This is the valuable part of the book.
Who is more in depth? Well that's a tie with Morris winning slightly on candles & losing if you want to view the whole Japanese charting world, Kagi, Renko, 3 line break. Nison gives other Japanese charting types weight in the book which is good if you have Metastock bad if you don't. Personally I like the other methods.
So why did I give Morris the nod? As a professional trader I can't really give away an edge except that Morris is more tuned towards stocks & gives hints that Nison did not.
Nison is also a boring writer, better lecturer. Morris is a better writer, teacher.
Remember Morris gives you everything and if that's not enough then you're not reading carefully; looking over these previous reviews makes me happy because they obviously missed Morris' hints and guides. I saw them and my trading improved & I had used Candles for a long time before getting to Morris ala Nison & began to think them worthless. Now I understand their role.

Enough said.

1 out of 5 stars Right idea poorly executed.......2002-07-21

Mr. Morris did wonderful research on technical trading and clearly knows what the charts are about. Morris goes on to clearly discuss that the difference between using technical analysis and using it well is understanding the philosophy of the market, the specific pattern and the interpretation of that, not simply by saying yes this is a buy signal because of the specific pattern but rather because of the physicology behind it and feeling that went with it. He fails to execute what he claims he will do in his introduction. I would save your money and not waste trying to struggle to unearth whatever little advice Morris gives.

5 out of 5 stars Concise, Well Written, and Worthwhile.......2003-04-09

I'm quite pleased with the material presented in this book and the clarity with which it is presented. I don't know how much credit to give to Mr. Pring versus the charting method he illuminates, but Pring makes candlestick charting entirely accessible to any reader possessing the intellectual tools requisite for competent analysis and trading. To be certain, I'm much impressed with some of the advantages candlestick charting provides the trader over conventional western charting and so a good part of my favorable impression of this book may lie in my approval of the techniques that Pring describes.

My own trading style relies somewhat on technical analysis but is also heavily influenced by fundamentals and market psychology. What I found most attractive in Pring's candlesticks was the way in which he focused on what this or that pattern revealed about the attitudes of market participants not just from day to day, but more importantly during the day. As a swing trader, I find this approach absolutely essential in detecting shifts in sentiment on a relatively short term basis, but in a broader context than within the electronic strictures of pure day trading.

Above all else, I give Pring credit for simplifying this analytical technique down to its basic components and including excellent descriptions and charts. While I'm inclined to conclude that most Technical Analysis books are overpriced, I believe that any book that can give the trader reliable new tools is ultimately worth the price. I believe this book fits in that category. I recommend this volume to anyone who desires more than rudimentary knowledge of candlestick charting. I doubt that any discussion of candlestick charting extending beyond Pring's teaching would really add much to the topic. I highly recommend this particular volume.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Good for bedside reading and theory.......2006-09-19

This book is a very basic, readable overview of small business valuation, which primarily offers the underlying theories and reasons behind different business valuation methods. It also includes a discussion of why one should be considering purchasing a small business in the first place. It does not include actual formulas or calculations that one would need for creating a specific value for a business, but rather gives you a working understanding of how small businesses are valued.

If you would like a fairly enjoyable read on the basics of small business valuation theory then this book makes a good choice. If you are trying to come up with an actual value for a specific business, look elsewhere.

2 out of 5 stars Lots of Fluff.......2000-11-11

Out of 244 pages, only about 20 of them deal with valuation calculation. Most of the book is basic accounting vocabulary. The sections dealing with valuation don't leave you thinking that you could actually put together a reasonable estimate of business value, and most of the valuation models require the use of a very subjectively computed Risk Price Multiple (RPM). Some good information, but overall I would recommend seeking an another resource.

From the supplier: The IRS released proposed regulations under IRC section 861 in 1995 that may provide some companies engaged in both US and offshore research activities with the opportunity to reduce expenses allocated to overseas operations and increase allowable foreign tax credits. The proposed regulations use three-digit SIC codes to identify product lines and make elections to use optional allocation methods binding for five years. Under the sales method of allocation, exclusive allocation to US income can only be done if US research expenses exceed 50% of total research expenses, replacing the 30% figure under prior regulations.

From the supplier: Proposed regulations under IRC section 865(j) state that losses on the sale of stock in a foreign affiliate will be sourced to the seller's residence. Sales of stock by a US shareholder will therefore be considered US-source losses, contrary to prior treatment. The treatment of losses on other personal property, including debt instruments, will not change. The regulations provide exceptions to this US-source rule if dividends have been paid with 24 months or there has been a stock sale resulting in gain within a five-year look-back period.
