Book Description
A best-selling book now available in paperback for the first time!
Do you want to know God and really believe Him? Do you want to find satisfaction in God, experience His peace, and enjoy His presence? Do you want to make the freedom Christ promised a reality in your daily life?
In Breaking Free, Beth Moore embarks on a study of selected passages from the book of Isaiah, drawing several parallels between the captive Israelites and today's Christians, in order to show how to make freedom in Christ a daily reality. Moore teaches readers to remove obstacles that hinder freedom by identifying spiritual strongholds in their lives and overcoming them through the truth of God's Word--truth that will set us free.

A life changing book.......2007-05-03
I own a hardback copy of this book and have read it through twice now. If you're tired of living in the stronghold of anything...addiction, pride, greed, jealousy, guilt, insecurity, etc., then pick up a copy of this book. Breaking free from those strongholds doesn't happen overnight. But once you realize how chained you are to the things from which Jesus/God can set you free, you're on your way. I am so very grateful God put this book in my path for I wouldn't take anything for the gift of BREAKING FREE! The word says, "I've come that you might have life and have it more abundantly." I believe it and I'm experiencing that even in the midst of trials. That's what happens when you have a Savior and believe He is who He says He is and believe He can do what He says He can do. So, feeling in bondage? Get this book and let God change your life through it.

Good primer on dominion theology and Christianity in general.......2003-12-05
Gary North begins the book assuming no prior knowledge of Christianity (without suspending his own presuppositions) and addresses the reader as an unbeliever. He writes about the sufficiency of Christianity as a way of life. Having established the above, he begins to explain the FOUNDATIONAL teachings of Christianity as contained in her rulebook for faith and practice, the bible, then he proceeds to inform the reader about the biblical version of various social INSTITUTIONS, finally, the biblical EXPECTATIONS Christians have for Reformation in these institutions.
Important themes:
1. Multi-tiered hierarchies vs. one leviathan hierarchy (ex. state, family, church vs messianic state).
2. God's peace treaty: surrender to His law.
3. Progressive success of the Gospel.
4. Dominion assignment, God's delegated authority to man.
Warning about unorthodox views on pedocommunion.
The wake-up call for Christians active in the civil arena.......1999-03-05
This is the best book I have found to set the starting place for Christians wanting to get involved in the civic arena. I believe some are called to be civil ministers, and Dr. Norths sets out the very first hurdle Christians must face: Who are you going to serve?

The best Photo-Essay on the war in NW Europe that I have see.......1999-07-03
G. E. Patrick Murray's latest historical effort is the best small volume of the war in Europe that I have seen. It is a concise reconstruction beginning with D-Day and ending with the Nazi surrender in early May, 1945. The writing, the photo selection and the situation maps are outstanding. The maps are the best I have seen in any history of WW II. If you are a military history buff or know someone who is, the addition of this book is a must.
from D-Day to victory in pictures.......1999-05-30
I look at this review from a differnt perspective from most. Having been a student of Dr. Murray I have see the way that he lectures and is able to get his point across. This book shows the Western Front form the eye of the camera and has a very well writen timeline to go along with it. Unlike most books this one does not stop at the Battle of the Bulge and skip to the surrender of the Nazi leaders. He show the battles that occured all the up to the meeting of the Russians and the Anglo-American forces. This book also includes a very extensive index that makes searching for facts easy. As a student it is nice to see the highlights of the lectures put into print for everyone else. Well done. (Beefcake)
Book Description
The topic of surrender is seldom written about because it is often misunderstood. In a world in which the basic message is that you have to make sure you get all your rights, it doesn't make much sense to voluntarily surrender yourself to someone - even if that "someone" is the all-powerful, all loving God of the Universe. But the Bible brings a different message: You find your life by losing it for God.

Salvation Issue.......2005-08-23
It would have taken me decades to finally start surrendering to God's providence of my life if it wasn't for this book, but God has used Gordon to help us understand one of the big three topics in the Bible. faith (surrender), love and hope. If you actually put into practice the suggestions given by this book, it works and I am here to testify it is working for me.
Radical Surrender Requires Radical Reading.......2004-09-09
Gordon Ferguson writes about a topic that few disciples really desire to talk about: total surrender. Of course the Bible makes it clear that total and complete surrender is the only way to eternal life (Luke 14:25-35). But how does one truly surrender to Jesus? How do we give up everything for the kingdom of God?
This book seeks to answer those questions. Ferguson writes with conviction that total surrender is the only way to true life. Truly, the way to victory is by surrendering and not by fighting against God.
Just Be Aware..........2004-08-26
...this is by an author who is one of the longtime leaders of the International Churches of Christ, recognized by many experts as an abusive, cult-like church.
Fantastic Book.......2004-08-26
I read this book soon after I became serious about my relationship with God. I am a very prideful, single mother, who has tried to keep a tight reign on my life and everything in it. I received this book as a gift and it rocked my world. Turning your life over to God is not an easy thing to do, but this book helps us to realize that if our God can create the universe, what makes you think he can't create solutions for your issues? I have seen Gordon speak and he is one of my favorite authors. The book "The Victory of Surrender" is colloquial and practical and I highly recommend it.
Read the Bible Instead.......2004-01-17
It's important to surrender to God and not to other people's opinions of what you should be doing. I don't think this book makes that point clearly enough.

Book Description
When an individual labeled as schizophrenic comes to Bruce Scott for counseling, Scott discovers that only when he drops his external image as a skilled therapist - when he opens his heart and becomes real - does the young man respond to his questions. This insight profoundly changes him, and he begins to see the challenges of daily life with new eyes. He learns to suspend judgment, release conventional social biases, and ultimately find true freedom.

changed my entire view of life.......2006-06-17
This had to be writing that was inspired by greater beings. The words were heard not only by my ears but within my body. My relationships and my relationshp to myself were altered immediately. This was a real person not wanting to impress anyone, but to inspire and awaken those that read his words. I am grateful to the writer for taking the time to inspire others to be honest and real instead of nice and "should." I recommend this book to others not because it is just a good read, but because it helps us all be real with each other
everyday magic.......2001-03-21
In Being Real, Bruce Scott reminds me of the magic of living. Unlike many books that leave me awed but somehow discouraged by the gap to my own life, Being Real is inspiring because it feels so close, so encouraging for my own experiences and perceptions. Bruce Scott's story is personal--he speaks from his heart, from inside his own struggles and confusion...and the fire of awareness that comes from there. Through his own journey, he takes the not-so-fantastic stuff of everyday life--relationships, odd encounters, dreams and the environment--and reveals its absolutely fantastic nature. Out of sleep-walking comes the magic of daring to follow yourself, your body, curiously discovering what that humble wisdom is all about. This book is a radical living practice, touching me deeply. In fact, Bruce's book is a star on the map for me, saving my life by saying through the "crazy" is the magic is the real. Thank you.
Shaking the Roots.......2001-01-12
Step into the life of Bruce Scott and find yourself stepping into your own. If you choose you can put into practice a step by step guide to being real in all relationships beginning with yourself. The reader learns what being real looks like, and when applied to the self what it feels like. Through storytelling and personal disclosure, Bruce demonstrates how one can be both gentle with themselves while taking themselves seriously, and decide moment to moment how to act from inside rather than from how we're "supposed" to act or be in the world.
an ongoing journey.......2000-12-21
It has taken me several months to review this book..which is just right..i previously thought i had reviewed it after having read it for the first time..(i am currently reading it for the third time..) but somehow my review never made it to the computer screen..this book has become to mean so much to me..each time i read it-i learn new things about myself and about relationships. each time i read it, i notice more, i feel more, i laugh and i cry more. in between reading this book, i have started to learn how to notice things..how to listen to my body, how to be intimate with people..all people, and what that really means..to be intimate..i have begun to learn how to stay with myself..to follow my heart..although at times it has been hard..and truthfully, as bruce says in the book.."friends will drop away" - they have..and while those experiences have been challenging..they were just right..this is more than a book..it is a way to get to know yourself..to learn how everything is relationship. everything. it is work, to be real..at times i have become lazy in terms of my awareness, my presence, my quest to remain "real"..and have noticed at those times, i begin to physically feel weak..tired, farigued..depleted. i encourage everyone to read this book and to share it with anyone you wish to..it will be a fantastic surprise!
Revealing the Veil.......2000-10-26
I wondered, as I contemplated what to write, how much if any I should reveal about my personal relationship to the author of Being Real, Bruce Scott. I quickly realized it is not important. What is important is that reading his book affirmed many of my own most sacred beliefs. I live in the body of a "minority" person and have had numerous experiences that lie outside the perihery of the mainstream. I have sought through many channels ways to affirm and support my existence in the world. The words and experiences contained within the pages of Being Real: An Ongoing Decision often had the effect of bringing me home to a place I know in my most sacred self. There were many times I felt relieved to have words put to some of my innermost thoughts about myself and the world I live in. Bruce has a deft way of uncovering the myriad ways in which we indidually and collectively limit and repress that force in us which wants to live and and do so fully. This book is a must if you believe that we have yet to tap our collective potential. That potential can only be realized as we individually risk, as often as we are capable, being real. Real with our intuitions, body sensations and that still small voice knocking at the door of our hearts to bring us more compassion for ourselves and others. Bruce Scott's book is a signpost on that path. Do yourself a favor. Read it and share it with others.

Would be better if the pictures were in color. The information on skin care was helpful.
Great Skin and Makeup Primer!.......2005-01-06
I've never really cared that much about what I used on my face or if I had on make-up. But going out one night, my friend got me to try a full face of make-up, and I looked pretty good. This book helped me do it on my own. It was a great starting point, easy to follow with great pictures. I learned how to take care of my skin better and it looks healthier. I also found with the help of the color chart some new and different choices to make with my clothes, and it even suggested accent colors to compliment your main outfit color. You can't always wear black! The skin type chart helped me realize that I actually have combination not oily skin. Oily skin would be especially oily in your t-zone and then all over. By answering the simple questions, I went in search of products more suited to my skin type. Great, straightforward book.
The book lacks specification and and is very confusing........2004-02-01
The skin type chart in the book is just plain confusing. You'd have to read the whole chart in the book to see what I mean. It's on pages 46 and 47. For an example, in the column for oily skin where it asks in the section 'does your skin feel greasy or slick?' it gives you the options 'T-zone' and 'all over'. What is this supposed to mean when 'T-zone' is an option in all of the columns? This doesn't make any sense. Another section in the chart asks the question,'If you bathe with deodorant soap, how does your face and body skin feel after an hour, without any type of moisturizer?'. My skin feels comfortable after this so I picked the option 'Oily forehead eyelids, nose, and chin' which is in the column for oily skin, but the chart next asks 'What do your pores look like?'. My pores look invisible, but this was in the column for dry skin. It's impossible for someone to have dry skin and oily skin all at the same time!
Now for the confusion of the color chart. The color chart says that the complimentary accent colors for dark complexions (specifically where it says 'dark skin') are: yellow etc., but in the section of the chart where it says 'medium skin' it reads on with more information about dark skin saying people with medium brown and dark complexions, in general, are flattered by colors with blue undertones, rather than yellow. HOW CONFUSING! By the way, what are complimentary accent colors? This book needs a glossary just for that term or the book needs to explain it somewhere, and if it does the book needs to mention that it does in its index.

Sucess in the kitchen!.......2005-04-20
I have had great sucess with many of the recipes here. The recipes are easy to follow, the photos of the finished dish are inspiring, and the result is very tasty! There is just a step or two in these recipes that really elevate these dishes. The best Coq a vin and cauliflower gratin I have ever tasted! I look forward to trying the desserts next. The accompanying CD was a fun surprise...It is actually very pleasant to listen to when cooking: upbeat but not too loud, all rather "hummable" and fun. This cookbook and CD is perfect for a relaxing Sunday afternoon preparing a special Sunday dinner.Highly recommended.
Great gift for any francophile.......2003-12-29
Now a confirmed francophile after honeymooning in Paris, my daughter is delighted with this collection of authentic bistro recipes and music. With the CD and recipes, easy enough even for her novice cooking skills, she can re-create the Parisian mood at home while entertaining family and friends. The only thing lacking are more photographs of the prepared recipes as food is to be savored by our mouth, nose and eyes.

This book captures the essence of the Bistro experience........1998-10-26
I am a professional Chef in Boulder, Colorado. My apprenticeship included nine months in Paris and during that time I was entranced by Bistros of all types. This book not only captures the spirit and the essence of the Bistro experience, but also serves as a very useful guide to eating well, looking well, and being seen well while in Paris. I am ordering a second copy today since the first has met the demise of most loaned out books.
A must-have for lovers of French cookery!.......1998-04-22
Neighborhood bistros of Paris have a charm and ambience all their own. Linda Dannenberg captures their flavor in her picturesque book Paris Bistro Cooking. Photographer, Guy Bouchet, captures their appeal with his delightful photographs, which whisks you into the amicable atmosphere of savory meals and congenial company. Coquille Saint-Jacques, Sole Grenobloise, Cassoulet Toulousain, Gratin Dauphinois, Pots de Creme au Chocolat, Galette de Pommes de Terre au Chevre en Salade, and Tarte Tatin--are just a very few of the mouthwatering recipes included. Ms. Dannenberg also lists sources for bistroware, supply houses, furniture, mail-order emporiums, etc., in a directory at the back of the book. Paris Bistro Cooking is bound to bring pleasure. But, beware! This book inspires hunger!
Book Description
You can spend years in Paris and never hear the same answer twice to this cookbook's underlying question: what is the difference between a bistro, a brasserie, and a wine bar? In his third cookbook, acclaimed author and expert on all things French Daniel Young explains the nuances between the three, as he takes home cooks on a vibrant, spirited tour of Paris's best eateries.
Daniel explains that, as true Parisians know; a bistro is a small, informal restaurant serving a few simple, hearty dishes, while a brasserie is a larger, cafe–restaurant providing continuous service and rough–and–ready food. In a wine bar, expect to find a large selection of wines by the glass and light bites to go with them.
Daniel also introduces home cooks to many of his favorite spots (some are famous, others are his own best–keep secrets) and presents classic recipes from each, including Salmon Terrine with Leeks and Pesto, Cream of Carrot Soup with Cumin, Pan–Grilled Rib Steak with Béarnaise Sauce, and Warm Almond Cake with Caramel Cream. Bistros, brasseries, and wine bars, define what it means to be out and eat out in Paris, to dine simply and very well. Theirs is the food that nourishes and sustains the Paris of Parisians – the real and everyday Paris – with local flavor, style, sophistication, personality, and attitude.
Customer Reviews:
Incredible for Francophiles and foodies.......2006-02-02
I picked this book up expecting the recipes to be a bit out of my humble culinary grasp, and to mostly get a feel for everyday French foods and how the flavors and textures interact. I love to read books like Peter Mayle's A Year in Provence and to enjoy new experiences and places through writing.
This book surpassed my expectations. The recipes are simple, yet are not things I would have ever come up with on my own. The steps to create the dishes here are very simply laid out, and require everyday ingredients that I can get at my local supermarket, yet use combinations that are intriguing and fascinatingly foreign.
Each recipe has the French name written below the dish's title, and then has a paragraph or more describing how the flavors mingle and work together, with tips for substitutions, and background information on how/ where/ by whom the dish is usually enjoyed.
I was thrilled by this book - I expected it to be a fun diversion with a few inspirations, but the simple appetizers and small meals in this book are just the kind of easy to make but quality fare I most like to cook. This has earned a permanent place on my shelf.
Book Description
Ou sont les bistros d'antan? Many visitors who arrive in Paris expecting to eat well in the bistros the city was once famous for, find many have closed or turned into sushi bars. But although these small restaurants with zinc counters serving delicious traditional spécialitiés de la maison and plats du jour under the watchful direction of the Patron have all but disappeared from Paris, they live on in the pages of this delightful book. It offers a hundred recipes from fifty of the best authentic Paris bistros, collected in the 1950's when these establishments were at their height. Part guidebook and part cookbook, this volume gives the address and description of each bistro as it was, and its colourful denizens, followed by its signature recipes. A work to savour.
