Customer Reviews:
Excellent Read!.......2000-11-02
This book is excellent! I read it from start to finish the same day it arrived. It touches on details not covered in the games and in a time of trouble for Wing Commander fans (there are no further game sequels planned) it satisfies the need for a Wing Commander product nicely.
Pretty darn good!.......2000-03-28
In a time of need, a great warrior must step up to take command. This book is rather typical of the series which has one guy practically saving the whole human race. Somewhat implausible, but still written very well. Another bit of Forstchen magic!
A little stale, but it is still Wing Commander..........2000-01-19
It gets the plot of the game down pretty well, though certain plot points are not in the right order, but that's not important. It gets boring after a while being on the Victory or in Blair's fighter the entire book, but it details the end of the war, and, hey, that's cool...
Damn fine.......1999-03-24
William R.Forstchen is without a doubt one of the most emotive authors I have ever read, (I'm a complete book worm and get through a book every 2-3 days) and this book was no exception, however the framework had already been laid out by the game which only gave him so much manouvering room in writing it. However do not think I don't like the book, on the cotary I thought it was great but not as good as the ones that are purely his. I'm only giving it four stars because otherwise I would have no way to signify that I thought Action Stations and End Run were better books(I haven't got round to reading Fleet Action yet as its out of stock at every bookstore in the country). Another problem is that the story of WC3 is too big to put into one book, A trilogy may have been better. The first book ending at Locanda, the second with the destuction of the Behometh and the last book ending at Kilrah. However it is a riverting read and I would recommend it to anyone. All in all te book (like all Forstchen books) leaves you feeling damn proud to be a human being.

Customer Reviews:
Suspenseful story with memorable characters.......2004-11-03
This was my first book by Lynn Kerstan, and I liked her style. There is a lot to recommend this book: suspenseful story, exotic location (India), well researched and detailed info., flawed but likeable h/h, and especially, really, really great dialogue (Georgette Heyer comes to mind). "Heart of the Tiger" was very easy to read, very easy to keep turning the pages. The storyline was different enough to be intriguing, and the interaction between the h/h was simply very good and very funny.
While I liked this author's style and would definitely buy another of her books, this particular book did not appeal to me too much. I'm not a fan of the supranatural, and there is too much of that interwoven into the story (along with a lot of interweaving of Hindu religion) for me to have really enjoyed this book.
Recommended, with reservations.
Heart of the Tiger.......2003-06-03
I read a review in the Library Journal for Heart of the Tiger and decided I needed to get the book. The review was right on! It said Heart of the Tiger was 'romantic', 'a beautifully written novel', with 'deeply conflicted, honorable and effectively rendered' characters. What it didn't tell me was I'd be up until three in the morning because I couldn't put the book down. It's a great read!
delightful Regency romantic suspense.......2003-05-12
In 1823, after spending years overseas, Lord Michael Keynes returns home from India. However, he does not return to the family fold, but instead plans to kill his older stepbrother, the notorious Jermyn, Duke of Tallant, not because he wants to inherit, but because he detests his abominable sibling. Jermyn looks forward to the confrontation with an eye on a different outcome.
Michael, accompanied by his Indian friend Hari Singh, rents a room at the estate of Beata Neri. Also residing there is Mira Holocombe and her wheelchair-bound father, who has almost no muscular movement. Jermyn drove them off their estate. Even though he knows better, Michael falls in love with Mira, but fears that if Jermyn finds out she will become an endangered pawn in their life and death contest. Mira reciprocates Michael's feelings, but seems to react with horror whenever Michael touches her. There is someone else who wants both brothers dead.
HEART OF THE TIGER is a delightful Regency romantic suspense novel with some eastern paranormal elements to freshen up the plot. The characters for the most part are a wonderful group as their uniqueness makes each of the key players and the plot come alive. Jermyn is too evil to take seriously except as a viable threat and even that proves minuscule. Still sub-genre fans will appreciate Lynn Kerstan's tale and look forward to the next story starring another Michael enemy, the Archangel.

Twenty out of twenty kids thought it was wonderful!.......2002-04-30
This book is just marvelous! Little Four(the little gray kitten on the cover) follows Bengal into the jungle to learn how to be like a tiger, so that he may earn his name on naming day. I was struck by how Four perseveres, and eventually triumphs, despite all those around him who doubt. This book has everything; exciting action, great moral (without being preachy)and the illustrations are as magical as the rest of the book.(Be sure to look for the hidden tigers!) Positive, empowering and beautiful, it's everything a picture book should be. I read it to my son's 2nd grade class; it was a hit, it really got them excited and talking.
A great bedtime story.......1999-11-04
I sent this book and "Quick Quack Quick" by the same author, to my niece and nephew. They really enjoyed it, and my sister enjoyed reading it to them. Many thanks for such a great story.

Book Description
A librarian is inspired to delve into the mystery of Shakespeare's authorship. He spends years gathering, reading and sorting all the known facts related to the poet's history. Surely if there was some genuine question about who wrote the works of Shakespeare, someone from the time would have let something slip. He is shocked eventually to discover just how many did.
In among the many historical documents related to Shakespeare, he finds a long line of satirical letters, pamphlets, epigrams and other allusions that run alongside the poet's unfolding chronicle. They all mirror the same piece of news. Yes, there was an actor named William Shakspere but behind him stood a woman. Several even openly identify her as being Mary Sidney, the countess of Pembroke.
Though these satirical works touching on Shakespeare would almost all be relegated to the flames in the suppression of satire in 1599, copies of everything would survive. When these documentary remains are reinstated without bias and permitted their due say, Shakespeare's biography becomes far richer and more dynamic than has hitherto been reported.
In this first volume, Tiger's Heart in Woman's Hide, all the evidential history bearing down on Shakespeare's first year is presented. By its end it will be clear that Mary Sidney is, provably, the right person in the right place at the right time with just the right motive to do what Shakespeare will do. Although the wash of history already indicates this, it is it he contemporary third-party corroboration of the satirists that confirms this was how in-the-know Elizabethans interpreted Shakespearean matters.

An amazing read of how one man's hard work, creative genius, and passion for research transformed the modern world.......2005-12-10
From The Periodic Table To Production: The Life Of Thomas Midgley, Jr. is the compelling biography of the American scientist who invented high-octane ethyl gasoline and freon refrigerants. His accomplishments allowed America to advance its technology in both civilian and military applications; ethyl gasoline enabled carrier-based Army aircraft, and fueled the Enola Gay when it dropped the atomic bomb that ended World War II. Though Midgley was only 55 when he died, his immense contributions to modern chemistry are all the more fascinating considering his background - he was originally trained as an engineer, not a chemist. From the Periodic Table to Production is an amazing read of how one man's hard work, creative genius, and passion for research transformed the modern world.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent resource.......2003-07-17
I used this book when I was desparate to find a way to treat my child who has selective mutism. The book was extremely helpful and provided easy to implement suggestions. My son is doing very well because of this book. This is particularly important because I had such a hard time finding a therapist for him and ended up doing this myself. Thank goodness for this book with its logical approach to a frequently overwhelming problem.
The BEST book on Shyness.......2002-10-05
I did not understand the previous review of Dr. Swallow's book. It did not appear to seek to present "medical evidence of shyness," but rather attempted to present practical suggestions to parents regarding the behavior of their shy children. I found this book to be very helpful....Thanx Dr. Swallow....changed my child's life.
Not very good.......2002-04-04
This book was a disappointment. The medical and anecdotal evidence of causes of shy behavior offered was minimal and the solutions very simplistic. Don't waste your money with this book. It didn't teach me a thing.
Well explained - I really like it.......2002-04-03
I enjoy reading Dr. Swallow book, it contains great information, and the contents are explained well. Dr. Swallow should write more books, I come here today to find more books written by Dr. Swallow, but I found just this one. Well, I then want to recommend it.
An outstanding book.......2001-11-02
This is the most useful book I've read on any aspect of parenting. It is sensitively written with constructive suggestions on how to support your child at various stages of development. I'm so glad that I read this book when my son was five. It has changed how both he and I understand and respond to his shy nature. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Customer Reviews:
Triumph Over Shyness.......2007-07-29
Undoubtely the best treatment of this subject I have ever read. Anyone who thinks they may suffer from social anxiety should read this book.
Great introductory book.......2006-06-07
I bought this for myself and also for my parents to read to understand my social anxiety. It's a good "first" book to get an idea of what you need to do to overcome shyness and self-esteem issues. It presents the topic in clear, simple English without much of the medical mumbo-jumbo. However, I don't expect anyone to truly "Triumph over shyness" just by reading this book. However, I still recommend this book to those that have just decided to do something about their shyness or social anxiety disorder.
Really Lame Attempts at Humor.......2005-07-15
This book reads like it was written by two men in a manic episode. Like it must have sounded important when they were writing it, but it's really just insipid, simplistic and nothing new. But what I found MOST annoying was the authors' constant paranthetical humor and "asides" which are really, really lame and not funny. But you can tell they think they're being hilarious. A good editor would have trimmed that drivel out. Alas, a good editor they did not have.
Can't really suggest this to anyone.......2002-10-09
The entire book is very short and can easily be read by anyone in just a couple of days. By the end I was thinking to myself "that's it?". In all those pages, this is all they can come up with, after all the years of experience? The book could have been a little more deep and went a little further. To be really honest, I could pretty much describe to you what the entire book tells us in just a few sentences. I guess I don't know what I was expecting. All of this to me is common sense information most everyone already knows. Like, if you want to swim, you've got to just jump in the water. I wouldn't expect anyone to agree with me, but this is just one person's opinion. I'm sure it might be very useful for some people.
My Shyness, Your Shyness & American Extraversion.......2002-04-03
This is a very good & new contribution to the American self-help tradition of 'conquering shyness' ... But there are other approaches that might be considered by shy people -- approaches which actually dare to question the anti-shy ideology of American popular culture. Three I see on Amazon currently are: "My Shyness, My Self" ... "The Gift of Shyness" ... and "The Highly Sensitive Person" ...
Shy people, and friends and family of the shy, might want to explore these books for their "shy-positive" outlook. Self-acceptance and a proper understanding of individual temperament are, after all, among the criteria for positive mental health.

Superior to "Easy Beans".......2007-07-02
The recipes are much more flavorful, and I found the variety interesting as well. The book is broken down into various world regions.Nicely done.
The only way "Easy Beans" beats it is in the nutritional analysis provided. Perhaps I just have an old copy of "Bean Banquets from Boston to Bombay";it's had much use, in a couple of pieces now.
Simple Food, Simple Preparation.......2007-05-09
I've made a number of the recipes in this wonderful little gem of a book and they've all been tasty as well as "good for me". I have my whole family eating from these recipes at least once a week. I use my pressure cooker to cook beans most all the time and the preparation couldn't be simpler.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Gregory while I was a student in Syracuse in the mid- 90's(a roommate was a family friend of hers), and she was busy working on another cookbook that was Italian inspired at that time. If it is anything like this one I'll be sure to get it.
This is the one I reach for ..........2006-11-01
I have an entire bookcase filled with cookbooks, most of which are vegetarian. I keep coming back to Bean Banquets. The recipes are delicious and easy to follow. The Savory Lentil Soup is awesome. I would love to see it back in print and I would buy up several as gifts for friends. Three cheers for the humble bean!
Should be a vegetarian classic..........2001-02-10
This book was one of the first vegerarian cookbooks that I purchased, and it has remained one of my favorites. Not only are the recipes very tasty (the "Cuban Black Bean Soup" recipe has become a family favorite--even though my parents are meat-eaters!), but the cultural/historical information given about each dish makes for an interesting read.
Before I bought this book I had never cooked with dried beans. However, Patricia Gregory's clear directions (a detailed introduction to working with dried beans is provided) convinced me that using dried beans really is easy (and economical).
Moreover, a good number of the recipes in this book are time-tested...they're classic dishes from around the world (like a wonderful lentils and rice dish from Lebanon [mujaddara] and a recipe for the sweet red bean paste found in lots of asian pastries). There are also "non-traditional" recipes like "Bean and Leek Chowder" and "Creamy Mexican Soup" that will become classics in your kitchen once you taste them.
There are two points to consider before you buy-- All of the recipes in this start with dried beans, and if you want to cook with canned beans, the conversion could be tricky. Also, if you usually use a pressure cooker to cook your dried beans, this book might not be for you (unless you're a whiz at converting standard recipes to pressure-cooker recipes) because the author doesn't provide any guidelines for using them.
Clear recipes, poor indexing........2000-04-19
The recipes in this book are simple and easy enough to prepare. I'm dissapointed not to find any descriptions of ingredients that give hints as to which kinds of beans can be substituted for which other kinds, and along the same lines, an index of recipes by primary ingredients would be nice.
Also, the emphasis on lima beans is very heavy and I find it difficult to pick out which recipes will have a strong lima bean flavor, and which will not.
