Uber all the way.......2007-05-17

If you are an Uber fan this is a good story. I was disappointed with the editing of the book. Some of the sentences did not make much sense and I had to reread the sentences before and some times the ones after to get the idea.
But I am an uber nut so I liked it faults and all.

Self-published.......2003-08-06

I got this second version because of the hype about it being so much better than the first which was horribly edited and terribly formatted. This one is little changed and editing and formatting are still bad. After I had a chance to look it over and was complaining about the lack of quality of this new version I found out from a friend who heard it from a friend that this author is also the owner of the publishing company. If that's true it's shameful to do this to your own book. It's more shameful to do it to someone else's book. They should get some editors. If I want to read the unedited version I can do that for free on the internet. I'll not be buying any more of the D2D offerings until the quality improves and thier high prices come down.

Still a Train Wreck.......2003-07-20

I read this book in the first edition with great hopes because everyone in my family has been military. The book cost one arm and a leg, but it has a decent cover so I had hoped for good things. I was not impressed at all with the first version. Now my friend comes back from a bard con with a copy, and I am looking at the new one. This second version was a slight improvement, so now the book gets 2 stars, not one but it's still a train wreck. The book was not correct in the layout then, and it still is not correct though it is better. It is still overpriced and the story gets more confusing as you go along with lots of telling and not good showing, and then, to make matters worse, there is still an average of 4 typos on every single page. I'm thinking this author still needed an editor. You'd think that after all the bad reviews at the other site for the first version they would understand.

Sorry to say, this book still isn't really good enough ... It has promise but isn't nowhere near there yet.

This book was awful. The typos were distracting and disgraceful but the story telling was much worse. Paying good money for such a shallow and amateur story was too bad. Good lesbian fiction is wonderful to read. This entire story was embarrassing.

I feel cheated of the money I paid to buy this book. It really is bad. It could be half the size, and someone could have taken the time to read it through. From the typo on the back cover, to the typo on nearly every page, it goes from bad to worse. I hope the author learns and improves, but from this effort, I doubt that is possible.

This book sounded interesting but it really was not. The plot was mediocre. I have read many stories from the Xena fandom this writer comes from and this book is riddled with cliches that were all too familiar. Editing was poor with several glaring errors. It is a long story moreso than a novel and is printed to fill more pages than necessary.

Desert Hawk is a story right out of today's headlines.

This is a very informative book. It does not talk about how to design a great game, but it talks about the game industry in general and what to do once you have a game that you'd like to get published.

Brian Tinsman knows a lot about a variety of different segments in the board game market. His knowledge is quite impressive and he write in a manner that is easy to understand.

Interesting, but not all that insightful........2006-05-02

I found this book to be interesting, but not all that insightful. It is written for a beginner or someone who is completely new to the field of board game design. On the other hand, if that is you, you'll find this to be quite helpful.

Okay for general interest........2004-11-16

"The Game Inventor's Guidebook" is a bit of a misleading title as there's very little here to guide an aspiring inventor in getting into the industry beyond the obvious advice to get a broker if you want a shot at penetrating the big companies; and don't sink your life savings into producing a game yourself thinking you're going to strike it rich. Tinsman has put together a respectable, if somewhat lightweight, overview of the industry with brief glimpses at the backstories of some of the more successful games and their inventors that's most appropriate for the gaming aficionado.

NOTE: If you're interested in video game design, look elsewhere.

Informative Look at Toy & Game Inventing.......2004-03-12

As a professional toy inventor and manufacturer, I found this book to be right on target. It gives both current and prospective inventors critical the type of ammunition needed to succeed in this highly competitive, extremely speculative business. I wish that I'd read this book when I started out fourteen years ago. Even now I found it helpful to be reminded of some of the basic precepts and underlying structure of the biz.

After years of experiencing excruciating periods, I was diagnosed with endometriosis. I have been searching for months to find natural alternatives to hormone therapy and another laparascopy. I found it in this book. It contains more information on endometriosis than any other resource I have looked through. It also provides thorough dietary suggestions and nutritional supplements. It offers an alternative to the more extreme therapies.

While I was looking to this book for a specific condition, it also contains a wealth of information on the various ailments that women suffer from, as well as suggestions for women's overall health.

I highly reccommend it to anyone looking to feel better, naturally.

The best book available on natural medicine for women.......1999-09-08

This is an exceptionally well-researched and well-written book covering the most common medical problems for women, how to prevent them and how to treat them the natural way. I am particularly impressed with the author's broad knowledge of biochemistry, medical conditions and her reliance on hard data from published studies. If you're tired of the side-effects of chemical drugs you'll find plenty of sound advice and alternative therapies backed up by scrupulous research. This is a great stand-alone volume on the subject but it also complements other books on women's medical conditions written from traditional medical viewpoints.

Filled with ill-advised shortcuts, yeilding mediocre results.......2007-08-19

My chief complaint about this book is that it was written by George Fix, rather than Darryl Richman. Unlike this book, Richman's book on Bock is a gem. This book however (written about a closely related style), is a disappointment by comparison.

The author built his recipes around Belgian pale and pilsner malts (wrong country, wrong lovibond, wrong flavor), and achieved the requisite color in his recipes with the addition of varying amounts of crystal malt. In other words, he cheated in his recipes by using color malts in order to take advantage of simple infusion mashing. That is *NOT*, the way to make authentic tasting Oktoberfest !

The CORRECT way is brewing with real German vienna & munich malts (correct country, lovibond and flavor), and the correct technique (labor, energy, and time intensive triple decoction mashing, and subsequent long wort boils that generate the distinctive melanoid and caramelization flavors).

Fix also recommends using the wrong yeast strains.

This book is basically a bunch of ill-advised shortcuts and poor recipe decisions, rather than a serious treatise on how to make real authentic Oktoberfest, Marzen, and Vienna style Lagers. This book is a glaring example of why authentic German brewmasters look down their nose and laugh at Americanized versions of their native beer styles.

Speaking as an experienced homebrewer, I was VERY disappointed with this book. Interested readers would do much better to buy Richman's book on Bock instead, and simply adjust the recipes slightly to lower the desired gravity, color, and caramel/melanoid profile.

Oktovberfest, Vienna, Marzen.......2006-07-13

This book does a good job of explaining the style and history of this beer style(s), but is somewhat dated. Since this book came out, the home brewing practices and equipment have changed significantly, and it would be nice to see the book reflect that. Overall this book is worth owning because there is not much literature about Oktoberfest, Vienna, and Marzen beers.

Not the best in the series..........2004-03-01

Oktoberfest is one of my favorite types of beers, and homebrewing is my newest hobby. Unfortunately, this book does not give a true "flavor" to the brew. The background information is rather amatuerishly written while the recipes are too involved for beginners. Those wanting to know more about brewing Oktoberfest would be better served by searching the web for numerous websites/recipes.

Not nearly what I expected.......2001-08-31

This book could have been so much better. This is one of the most popular German lager styles to brew, yet the authors suggest the use of Belgian and crystal malts in place of the standard Munich malt which is used by all Bavarian breweries. Definitely the most disappointing book in the series.

Main emphasis is Vienna.......2000-06-28

This is a helpful book for brewers, however the main emphasis is on the Vienna style. I have travled extensively in Germany for 5 years and never seen a Vienna beer. I felt more attention should have been placed on the popular and robust styles of Marzen and Fest beers. However, the book does contain good material and was helpful to me.
