Tupolev - The Man and His Aircraft is outstanding work.......2007-03-09
This is a finely detailed work on the historical achievements of Andrei Tupolev and the firm that bears his name. Every aviation library should have a copy as well as any aviation buff.
Co-Authors: Amazon should recognize the late Mr. Paul Duffy as well as Mr. Kandalov as authors of this work. With all respect to Mr. Kandalov, Paul Duffy was very close to the Tupolev family and without him this book would not have been written.
FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-12-23
Andrej N Tupolev is the greatest aeronautical mind of all times. Like clockwork for 50 years of his unmatched career, every aircraft this genius designed had scored several world records! Tupolev's TU-144, the world's first giant supersonic transporter and the true marvel of aeronautical engineering still remains unsurpassed today, some 30 years after its maiden flight.
However, the book's courageous attempts to illustrate the unique and exceptional talent of Tupolev falls short of its mark. Although well-structured points are made regarding the revolutionary milestones achieved by Tupolev, such as the variable geometry canard winglets and nose-cone or the delta wing design, which ushered in the 3+ Mach epoch, they are lost on the average reader.
Tupolev's work isn't even fully understood by the West aeronautical community today let alone by a biography reader. It helps to know some facts on the TU-144 victory before reading.
The Brito-French monopoly Airbus, although painstakingly retracing Tupolev's steps with a network of spies, only managed to trudge haplessly behind the master producing no more than a pathetic feat with an equally befitting humdrum name, the Concorde. Concorde, following years of development snags, eventually turned out to be nothing more than a miniature copy of the TU-144. Its carrying limits made it an economic disaster and the wrong power plant and nacelle mounting was its undoing making the only West effort crash and burn in an inferno outside of Paris.
The book gives good examples of Tupolev's superiority throughout but spares the West, namely the USA, the 30 years of its greatest aeronautical embarrassments save for the JFK moon landing sham.
While Tupolev connected the far reaches of Asia and Europe with a regular supersonic service, especially Americans stood confounded. The German-birthed Boeing managed only a few pencil drafts - nothing more. Unable to come close in 30 years, to obtain the Tupolev's marvel, the US government bought the TU-144 in 1996.
This book is a well-written proof of the ongoing Russian superiority over the West and USA. It will reveal facts like that while Tupolev was breaking one world record after another, Americans managed only to repaint their flag on the Russian fuselage.
The book is an absolute necessity for every schoolboy, it will stun rigid all airplane buffs, and it will floor even those who understand nothing about aeronautics.
WELL RECOMMENDED!!!
An excellent book on Tupolev Aircraft........2000-06-17
If ever there was an excellent book on Soviet aircraft to emerge from the post cold war era, this is the one. Not only do the authors have a lot of knowledge on these impressive aircraft, but also a collection of photos never before published of many little-known aircraft. Some of these aircraft are truly impressive such as massive bombers from the pre-war period to the Strategic Bombers fielded by the former Soviet Union. Tupolev is also the constructor of most of Russia's commercial jets and the book is therefore useful for anyone interested in civil aviation. there are also tables giving the production levels of most Tupolev aircraft and also others indicating the registration numbers of Tupolev airliners. But most of all it describes the personality and contributions to aerospace of Andrei N.Tupolev, one of the world's greatest aircraft designers, who dominated his country's aircraft industry for much of this century.

Best Cookbook.......2007-09-30
This book is not only a cookbook, but also a clear explanation of Ayurvedic principles, especially as they apply to what you eat. It has some simple recipes along with more in-depth ones.
Tasting Life with Lightning Balance .......2007-09-02
Eat Taste Heal is a masterpiece of beauty, love, and positive energies. I have been exploring ayurvedic ideas and principles and find the explanations easily understood. Ayurvedic practices weave an intimate connection to every moment, and to our essential self. Every thought or belief we hold, affects us on all levels of the mind body energy continuum. We can sense our Dosha's and how to shift our energies and beingness with changes in our foods and their combinations and this book will leap you into understanding this. More than a cookbook, the photos will bring you gratitude and appreciation for food, and our lives. I truly believe that the authors Yarema, Rhoda, and Brannigan have created a gift for humanity for decades to come. There are underlying aspects of this book that also reveal a shamanic approach to life... connected to nature, the elements and a spirit of the divine essence. Congratulations to the authors and all who read and share this book! I am recommending it to many of my clients and friends!
Expected Better.......2007-08-29
I'm glad so many people like this book. But I am not one of them.
I have followed Ayurvedic cooking for a few years and have reaped many healthy results from it (besides enjoying some of the most wonderful meals that I have ever experienced). Obviously, I came to this book with very positive expectations. I guess that I found two areas of the book that I did not like - the first part and the second part.
The first part sounded like a Western MD giving a very judgmental and negative-slanted presentation. It was all about what TO DO and what NOT TO DO. He crossed the line on allowing his readers to own their own thoughts. He also put much emphasis into the 'magic bullet' view of 'when this is wrong - do this' or 'to fix this symptom - do this'. To me, Ayurveda is more about cherishing one's Dosha (constitution) through food, thought, activity, etc in a whole life setting. When one looks to the symptoms, one looks (and gives power to) the negative expression of the body. The presentation of Ayurveda that I have been exposed to honors my intelligence and informs me that my life and health are my responsibilities. Gentle guidance then follows.
The second part of the book, the Recipes, is yet another presentation of Macrobiotic cooking. They ARE clean, healthy recipes. They just are not the rich, complex, exotic recipes that I have come to associate with Ayurvedic cooking. These recipes would actually make a good Macrobiotic Cookbook. People following these recipes would do very well for themselves and their health. That's just not what I intended to purchase.
I guess this book fills an important niche in presenting Ayurveda to a new audience. I was just looking for an Ayurvedic cookbook with wonderful recipes. If anyone out there is looking for this, then I would highly recommend Heaven's Banquet/Hospodar and Healing Cuisine/Johari. The latter is authentic and the former is a combination of authentic and adapted Western dishes. And when Ms Hospodar gives Ayurvedic instruction, it is like she is sprinking rose petals around you - enjoyable bits of information that invites you to select what you want to 'own'.
Eat right - digest well - live long - and enjoy.
Fantastic!.......2007-08-17
Very well laid-out, a pleasure to behold, packed with wisdom. Not only has the book helped me to address some of my own imbalances, it has helped me to understand and accept the differing needs of others. If everyone would read this book and follow the recommendations, the world would truely be a more peaceful, more loving place.
Ayurvedic cooking at it's best.......2007-03-09
Eat-Taste-Heal was written as a cook book but it is also one of the clearest written explanation of the Ayurvedic system for restoring and keeping good health. The explanation of the medicinal thought behind the food groups and therefore recipes is motivating and of course the end result is delicious. I highly recommend you share this book with family and friends.

I bought this book as a gift for a friend. She was very pleased. It was exactly what she wanted.
"Eat and Heal" changed my life.......2003-04-15
I read a full-page ad in the AARP newspaper on this book. I rarely order anything from advertisements but this one really caught my eye.
This book was the catalyst for life-changing habits. I have purchased and given away about 15 books. Many relatives and friends have found it to be very helpful. It is laid out nicely and is very easy reading.
I am on my way to total fitness.
Help for Kidney Stones.......2002-01-23
Your book, Eat and Heal, was well worth my money just for one thing... your recipe for lemonade to help prevent kidney stones. I been drinking a glass of lemonade by this recipe for several weeks now and haven't had a stone yet! Thanks for the tip!!!

Superb writing -- Makes you hungry & happy.......2002-11-13
A superb piece of work by a wonderful writer, this book gives you the history and background of NC bbq, plus all the information you need to either produce your own or get out and find it in NC. The man knows what he's talking about -- and he talks it so well.
Makes me miss Durham :(.......2000-07-21
Though I only lived there two years, I've often yearned to go back to Carolina. This book made that yearning into a painful ache! How many cooking books do you read with the intensity of interest as a thrilling novel? I did this one. Warning: This is not a recipe book. Yes, of course it has recipes, from both eastern Carolina and western Carolina barbecue traditions, as well as some variations of both. But the stories and history of this book make it a treasure in my collection. This one is going into my library, far more worthy than to be consigned to the kitchen to collect dust under the microwave (a fate deservedly given to a certain book by Martha Stewart).
This book makes me more homesick than ever for my adopted home. If you have any glimmer of passion for Carolina style barbecue, you MUST get this book.
the best there is on n. carolina bbq.......1999-06-22
bob garner is the man. no other person in history has captured the true spirit of n. carolina bbq. it is a must for anyone who enjoy's bbq. it is something that can be passed down to generations.
If you love barbecue, don't miss this book........1997-06-17
All native sons of the Tar Heel State, and those who wish they were, who love pork barbecue and always wondered about the history of that flavorful dish should check out "North Carolina Barbecue: Flavored by Time." Funny, insightful, and well-researched, author Bob Garner takes you first on a history lesson back to 17th Century Jamaica to the roots of barbecue, then covers the importance of barbecue to political and religious life in the state. His own life growing up is filled with barbecue-related stories, which he tells herein with wit and style. He also imparts two excellent barbecue recipes, one for pork shoulder, one for the "whole hog."
The last half of the book contains reviews of the state's better- and lesser-known barbecue establishments, and could serve as a good starting point for a state travel guide. Photographic coverage leaves something to be desired, varying from wonderful historic photos to those that are barely legible.
Although the book would likely appeal only to those readers from the South for whom barbecue in all its forms is a tradition, it is an excellent read nonetheless. The down side is that reading this book makes you hungry
