Customer Reviews:
Excellent craft book!.......2007-05-10
Not only does this book have wonderful crafts that are fun to make, it is also chock full of interesting information! It starts with a description of an Egyptian family, then describes various aspects of their daily lives. The directions for the two games you can make are a bit confusing (I had to look up Senet online to figure out how to play), but the sheer variety of projects, recipes, and background information more than make up for it.
Lots of fun for the kids.......2002-09-13
My stepson Jacob loved this. I came home from work one day to find him dressed as a Pharaoh! He loves Egypt and says he wants to become an Egyptologist.

Book Description
Julian is a quick fibber and a wishful thinker. And he is great at telling stories. He can make people—especially his younger brother, Huey—believe just about anything. Like the story about the cats that come in the mail. Or the fig leaves that make you grow tall if you eat them off the tree. But some stories can lead to a heap of trouble, and that's exactly where Julian and Huey end up!

I didn't like this book because it doesn't have good stories. I reccomend this book to someone who likes girl books. I did not like the stories in the book because they were confusing to me. I was confused on the pudding story because they said, "You ate some, so I have to eat some, I ate some," over and over again. That's all I have to write.
Julian and Huey.......2006-03-20
My review is about a boy named Julian and his little brother, Huey. Julian tells a lot of different things to his brother. Julian is a person who like to trick his little brother. His little brother thinks thses things are real, so he keeps asking his big brother, Julian, questions about these things. I thought this book was really good. I think the author was thinking about what he and his brother used to do together when they were little.
The Stories Julian Tells.......2006-03-20
I liked this book because it has a nice message. I think that message is fibbing gets you into twice as much trouble as it gets you out of. Julian is a quick thinker but sometimes he doesn't think quick enough to get himself out of trouble. Though Julian doesn't get in much trouble, when he does get in trouble he still doesn't like it. I'm nobody to speak for Julian, but I think he now knows friendship is better than anything.

"Reflecting incidents true to children (making a bet with a friend, sending a message in a bottle, attempting to be brave), these stories are the sort that will make children ask for more."--School Library Journal, starred review
Customer Reviews:
From the author, March 4, 2,000.......2000-03-05
An excerpt from this book, about African-American characters, was used January 31, 2,000 in a state-wide Illinois third-grade reading standards test. 70,000 Illinois children got this test excerpt, in which the testers reillustrated the story without permission and changed the characters to Causcasians. I wrote the book with great care, and with the hope that many children will identify with my characters who are courageous and successful and well-liked. Over 200,000 copies of the book have been sold. I know from my fan mail that many children of all races do identify with the characters. It must have been painful for many of them to see their heroes turned white on a test--and for others who know the book, it must have been distracting at the least. One of the testers' three new illustrations shows the brothers in the story playing baseball. Eight books about the characters have been published to date (there will be a new one next year)--and in none of them do the characters play baseball. The testers developed their test questions based on a 3-page excerpt from the book; they had never even seen a copy of the entire book (thus the error in race), much less read it. It's quite possible that a child who had read the book would give different answers to the test questions based on his knowledge, and that the testers, in their ignorance, would mark it wrong. In many states, statewide tests are very serious these days--children are stigmatized for low scores, and teachers lose their jobs. But it appears that the tests are hastily and thoughtlessly constructed and penalize good readers. Parents and all of us concerned with education need to know what kind of tests children are being subjected to. --anncameron@guate.net

I think it's a great book. So I want other people to read it. Because Julian tells lots of stories and it's lots of fun reading it.

Filmmaker Spike Lee and wife Tonya Lewis Lee join the ranks of other celebrity kids' book writers with their sweet, rhythmic read-along about the endless energy of a toddler blasting through a busy day.
The Lees' diapered dynamo starts early (the VCR reads 3:01 a.m.), with the little girl outlasting her mama sprawled out on the living room floor ("Go back to bed, baby, please, baby, please"). A breakfast of upturned Cheerios follows a few hours later ("Not on your HEAD, baby baby baby, please!"), then play time, a trip to the playground, dinner, and a bath ("Please don't splash, baby baby, please, baby!"). The fun repetition doesn't change up until the book's sweet close, as the curly-haired tyke somehow can't get to sleep ("Kiss me good night? Mama, Mama, Mama, please").
The Lees have as much or more success than their high-profile counterparts (Jerry Seinfeld: Halloween, John Lithgow: Marsupial Sue; and Jamie Lee Curtis: I'm Gonna Like Me: Letting Off a Little Self-Esteem), thanks in large part to their excellent choice of illustrator Kadir Nelson, whose work has appeared everywhere from Sports Illustrated to the New Yorker. Just as he did with Will Smith's Just the Two of Us, Nelson uses his enormous talent to inject energy and emotion into each richly colored, Rockwellian spread. (Baby to preschool) --Paul Hughes

Adorable!.......2007-10-05
My daughter adored this book from the age of 12-15 months -- she could easily relate to the baby in the lovely illustrations.
Good One for Little Ones.......2007-08-30
This book is perfect for young readers/listeners. My one year old has loved this book since she was 9 months old. There are the perfect amount of words on each page and she really likes the illustrations. She has a lot of books and this one is by far one of her favorites. She also likes "Please, Puppy Please" by Spike Lee as well.
works like a charm!.......2007-08-25
I'm a toddler teacher(18-24 months) and when my kids(all 14 of them!) are cranky, whiny, or just plain 2 year olds, all I have to do is break this book out! They come sit by me and we read the book~they'll speak it aloud with me, making faces and gestures along with the child in the book. Especially for the "No, in the TRASH, baby baby baby please!" segment~the child throwing her diaper in her toybox~they all wave their hands in front of their faces, yelling "ewwww!"
They love this book, and I love it too!
My baby loves this book.......2007-08-09
I bought this book to read to my 2 year old. She loves it. She giggles and laughs when she looks at baby's antics because they are just the sort of things that she does. I guess she sees herself reflected in the baby. Personally, I though this book didn't have much in the way of text, but apparently it is enough for a 2 year old. And I bow to her taste since the book is for her.
She loves the pictures... (going to look for books with that illustrator again) and "Please baby please" is now a refrain in our home, she knows just what I mean and it creates a lot of laughter. I recommend this book highly for children 18 to 36 months.
Excellent book.......2007-07-11
My niece and nephews love this book. They also enjoy, Please, Puppy, Please. The storyline is upeat, but also realistic. Its a good addition to any library.

Customer Reviews:
Couldn't ask for anything more.......2007-06-12
A lot of times I have bought things (stores and on-line) that have not lived up to my expectations. Fortunately, this book does. In fact, it has surpassed my expectations.
The lines are clean and there is room to add vivid color. The patterns and pictures are very rustic and combine work from different countries/tribes. The captions below tell you not only where the design was taken from but also where the design was located (ex. Border: Design - Nigeria; Center: Detail from painting from Oku Wall - Ibo people). Every piece is breath taking how the art work from different countries/tribes accentuate each other. This is the best coloring book I have ever owned.
The only drawl back is that the pictures are printed on both sides of the paper. I have chosen to make copies of the picture before I add color to them. This also allows me to do a particular picture over again until the colors and artwork dance flawlessly together on the page.

Great Resource for Schools.......2007-03-23
This book fits in with the 6th grade Ohio Social Studies curriculum, and every school library needs it. Not only are there a lot of projects that are quite easy to do (no supplies that would be hard to get, no special expertise needed) there is a lot of well-researched information about each of the projects. Vocabulary in listed, as well as little known facts. Useful and fun to read as well!
Great Projects!.......2007-01-30
This book is a winner! I have 3 kids, ages 6, 10, and 12, and there's something in there for all of them. The projects are fun to do, and just the right level of difficulty. My kids have learned a lot about Egypt by building the projects as well as reading all of the intriguing information tucked into the book. I highly recommend this book!
Excellent resource for educators!.......2006-11-27
As a home educator, I'm always looking for books that will draw my kids in. Great Ancient Egypt Projects You Can Build Yourself does just this. The main text is full of information that kids will find interesting, and peppered throughout are sidebars offering further detail. Best of all are the numerous activities. This book includes more than 25 hands-on activities, including creating a game of senet, building a shaduf, making kohl, blending perfume, and even transforming a garage sale chair into a throne. Very cool!
Book Description
No toddler will be able to resist joining in with this toe-tapping, finger-snapping, sing-it-out-loud story! From a robin chirping in the morning, to a lazy dog snoozing on the kitchen floor, to the sound of Daddy's home-at-last footsteps in the evening, the whole day rings with its own kind of music. Lively illustrations of a loving family punctuate a rollicking text where the everyday sounds in a young child's world inspire the sweetest melodies.
Customer Reviews:
Upbeat, fun book .......2006-04-05
Sing-Along Song has been my now 3 year old's number one book for bedtime reading for about six months straight! He never tires of the rhymes, the beautiful details in the illustrations, and he so looks forward to chiming in "I just gotta sing-along" at the end of each scene! I love the African-American family and the little boy narrator because my son can relate to him and see himself in others! Great book!
Excellent Read Aloud.......2006-01-03
This is a great book for it's sing-song cadence, word choice, cheerful attitude and illustrations. My toddler chooses this book to be read aloud often. As an elementary school teacher, I see many writing elements that could be taught by reading this book to school-aged chldren. I hope your children enjoy it as much as mine.

Customer Reviews:
Not your everyday coloring book!.......2005-01-25
This is a wonderful book for children or adults. The sixteen unique images rendered in skillful detail combine imagery from several cultures such as the flowery fabric motif from Nigeria with it's border design taken from a Baule gold plating motif and the Bambole mask with Ndebele motifs as a background.
The real surprise in this book is that the images are printed on transparency paper creating a number of options for use by teachers, artists and students of all ages. It is unlike any other coloring book I've ever seen.
