Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Customer Reviews:
this is an amzing and very practical book!.......2001-08-23
this is such a great book if you are looking for a book that gives basic developmental guidelines for reading AND some wonderful activities to do with children! the focus is on children birth to 3rd grade! I absolutely LOVE it!
Excellent Kindergarten Resource.......2000-03-30
As a Kindergarten teacher, I have found the Starting Out Right book to be one of the best resources that I have ever used in my classroom. The text is very easy to read and very user friendly. The activities are great for any teacher making the changes in education. I only wish that I had found this book years ago. I would recommend this book for any teacher who is teaching reading strategies. In fact, my district is purchasing this book for ALL kindergarten teachers for our personal resource library.

Book Description
This new book provides fresh and original perspectives on the nature of individual differences in word and nonword reading. It does so by connecting three literatures that have developed largely in isolation from one another: the literatures on acquired dyslexia, difficulties in learning to read, and recocious reading. Jackson, a developmental psychologist, reconsiders her own and other recent studies of the cognitive psychology of precocious reading and hyperlexia. Coltheart, a cognitive neuropsychologist, draws on his own and others' studies of adults with acquired dyslexias. These literatures and studies of both developmental dyslexia and "garden variety" poor reading in children are examined to show how careful attention to methodological and conceptual issues can highlight similarities and differences across these diverse groups of readers.
Central to the authors' analysis is their argument for a distinction between proximal and distal causes of atypical reading. Proximal causes are cognitive explanations are the level of an individual's current reading system. Distal causes, which are likely to be less consistent across groups, include biological mechanisms and reading experiences. The authors analyses of proximal causes of atypical reading are presented in the context of Coltheart's dual-route cascaded (DRC) model of word and nonword reading. Routes to Reading Success and Failure will be of interest to a broad range of readers concerned with reading and its difficulties in cognitive psychology, neuropsychology, child development, and education.

Each lesson takes from 20 to 30 minutes and focuses upon early literacy issues such as phonological awareness, the alphabetic principles, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Enhanced with more than one hundred 'learning friendly' activities and interventions (including goals, materials, word lists, and teacher steps), "Interventions For Reading Success" includes guidelines, assessment and intervention planning guidance, 75 photocopiable take-home activities parents can use to reinforce their child's basic reading skills, and practical tips for teachers on implementing intervention in the classroom setting. A comb-bound book that lays open on a flat surface for each of use, "Interventions For Reading Success" is a welcome and recommended resource for classroom teachers working with student from kindergarten through the third grade to develop and improve their reading skills.

Customer Reviews:
Building Fluency.......2007-01-13
The speed drills are quick, easy to manage in small groups and help students reach attainable goals.
Marginal Usefulness.......2006-10-05
Although the information in this book is useful, it is not the activity book that the shopper might be expecting. The fluency passages are too few, and the lower-level passages are reapeated twice on the page. While this makes duplication easy, it sacrifices additional fluency passage inclusion. Although some of the speed drills and word activities are useful, this book is a little light on content.
Great resource for classroom teachers.......2006-02-26
This book offers many practical lessons to help students become more fluent readers. Great suggestions and charts for students to record their progress. Teacher friendly!
Building Fluency: Lessons and Strategies for Reading Success.......2005-09-21
This is a must have for teachers. It is full of wonderful fluency building activities. It provides lots of passages for use in your classroom. It also provides some really good assessments.
A must have for new teachers.......2005-08-12
This book is wonderfully straightforward and immediately applicable in your classroom. It clearly explains the why and the how so you can target this area of reading instruction which is often neglected. It is a quick read and the suggestions are easy to implement without a large investment of time or money. The activities suggested are meaningful, not cutesy, and the assessment suggestions are authentic. Also, the book suggests ways to allow students to track their own progress. This would complement whatever reading program you use; whether basal, 4-blocks, or balanced literacy.
Book Description

Reading comprehension workbook.......2007-10-05
I would recommend this book for anyone from high school through graduate school. It is an excellent workbook for those who have found their reading comprehension skills needing improvement.
Reading comprehension book.......2007-01-12
This book is written for adults; however, I'm using it to teach reading comprehension strategies to my 6th graders. They need to be challenged and I like the format. Teaching reading strategies is the same no matter what age you are.

Customer Reviews:
My daughter loves it.......2007-09-02
I was amazed to see the bad reviews. Is this workbook more fun than Nintendo? UMMM, no, it is a workbook. I use it to reinforce what we have been learning in other more visually stimulating books. Do look at the pages and notice that the student gets to cut out the letters of the word and paste them for one of the activities. She LOVES that and it gives her practice with her motor skills. This book is a great resource that I use often. The last thing asked is for the child to use the sight word in a sentence. So on one page you get the word to trace, then the word to write on your own, the word to cut out and paste, then a sentence to write the word into and last of all you get to make your own sentence with the word. So you have reading, hand writing, cutting and pasting and creative writing all on one page. What more could you really ask for? This is a solid book that gets right to the skills children need to learn in short simple lessons.
Great Resource.......2007-02-23
This easy to use, high frequency reproducible is a wonderful resource to help your students become familiar with and practice using 100 words from the Dolch list. Every kindergarten teacher at my school uses it. Great product!
Nothing special here.......2007-02-18
It's just a workbook for seat work's sake. Nothing really worth a whole book. Good for teachers who want to give their kids meaningless worksheets to take home.
100 Write and Learn Sight Word Practice Pages.......2005-09-05
Quick shipping! Great doing business with you!
Rote practice without variety.......2005-05-02
Take the time to use the "Look Inside" feature to look at the cover, which adequately shows the content. Each word is presented individually, just as shown. While it is certainly a good idea to have children write a sight word, see it in a sentence, and manipulate letters in the appropriate order, my special education primary students were bored after two of them and were not successful reading the word later in the day. For a better value that will give you results and provide a good review cycle of preceding words, try something like More Sight Word Stories by Gloria Lapin. Young students love the minibook format, and they can both read them in class and reread them as homework.

Stellar!.......2007-10-11
The Kindergarten teachers at our school had selected Mother Goose as our Author of the Year for this school year. When I found this book, we all immediately adopted it as an integral part of our weekly homework packets. We are currently working to translate the materials into Spanish to make it accessible to our Spanish Speaking families as well. The activities are right in line with the goals of our Language Arts curriculum too. Thank you for putting together such a great book!
This is a fantastic, easy-to-implement program!.......2006-03-23
We are using this book in our kindergarten which has many ESOL students! It has been a big hit with the teachers, parents, and students. We use it with the Scholastic Nursery Rhyme flip chart.
Book Description
Feeding students a steady diet of fiction is all too common in the classroom. Yet informational literacy is critical to success in school and beyond. In Make It Real, Linda Hoyt provides a practical, classroom-friendly guide to unlocking the treasures of informational text. What's more, she demonstrates that reading and writing nonfiction can overcome the gender gap, allowing girls and boys to share interests in any subject from bugs and magnets to gardens and cake baking.
Hoyt explains the use of a range of instructional strategies, including shared and guided reading and writing, to help students understand and use nonfiction material to answer questions about the world around them. She shows teachers how to make texts more attainable, scaffold vocabulary, and deal with content-specific words. Her simple suggestions help you get started and maintain your course: having students write about the visuals in their texts, infusing informational texts into guided reading, then using these texts to teach reading strategies. For further help, she includes throughout her book:
- teaching points
- reading strategies
- writing exercises
- checklists, plans, reading logs, and other forms
- vignettes from teachers across the country to serve as real-life models.
Do a better job linking up the curriculum. Teach skills and strategies applicable across content areas. See students' natural curiosities aroused. Take the tips from Make It Real, teach informational text, and hear comments like one from an enthusiastic first grader, We're learning about the world and learning how to read, too!
