Secrets of Tea.......2007-03-09
Excellent book for people who want to use natural healing techniques with tea.
In Your Hip Pocket!.......2007-02-07
I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!
One of the gals at the health food store that I go to recommended this book. If I had to pick only one book on herbal teas, this would be the one. It is a quick, easy reference - and right on the money with the medicinal uses and any cautions that should be taken. I built my 'herbal tea cabinet' based on the advice from this book - and I need a bigger cabinet! (smile)
The cost is just pennies for the 20,000 secrets!
Go for it!
I have baught this book twice.......2007-01-09
It's that good. It's basically a alphabetical breakdown of teas and their uses, covering some herbs that are not considered typical tea, Pepper for one. There is also a ailment to herb section. I have used this to breakdown the effects of "over the counter" tea blends. Who cares if it has liquorish root? what the hell does that root do? And will it help my throat? YadaYada, a perfect keeper book.
an educational book.......2006-11-03
I enjoy the way it is layed out. and it has a lot of good info in it.
A Must Have for Beginners.......2006-04-16
Plain and simple: Buy this book if you're a beginner. It's easy and interesting to read, tons of useful information and easy to use as a quick reference. BUY THIS BOOK, YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!

Book Description
The healthful benefits of Kombucha tea became widely known in America in 1995, largely due to the efforts of Betsy Pryor who co-authored this book with Sanford Holst. They discussed it on Maury Povitch, Leeza Show, CNN, Dateline, CBS This Morning, etc. Learn Kombucha tea's health benefits, how to make it, and how it is used.
Customer Reviews:
It's all there!.......2007-08-29
Pryor's book is well-written and organized, making for easy use and interesting reading. I bought the book as a gift to a friend who shared her kombucha "mushroom" with me. The mushroom had been given to her and she wasn't sure how to make or use it. Now we're both benefitting. I mix the prepared tea with apple juice (1 part tea to two apple). It tastes deliciously like apple cider and I feel energetic after drinking it.
The Miracle Tea, easy to make!.......2007-03-09
I am so pleased with this book! Laurel Farms has been checked out by the government and passed every test!
The receipe is simple and the book tells you how many different things this tea has healed for other people.
Even gettting gray hair to turn back to its natural hair color. The tea rejuvenates the body and lets the body work more efficiently. I can't wait to make more and more tea and get my friends to drink it! Its naturally addictive!
Extremely helpful; tells how to do it safely, well written.......2006-06-02
Betsy is the person who brought the Kombucha into the United States in the early 90's. She's the expert. In her book she tells you all about it. She gives instructions exactly how to do it safely and how to get the best "tea" possible. The text is comfortable to read. Kombucha is not for smokers though as it tries to "houseclean" the body so smokers can't use it. Kombucha is something you slowly build up on so start with 1/8 cup and then slowly build to 1.5 cups a day over a period of a couple of weeks. Muscle tone, skin tone, energy, etc. will be much improved. A person feels better with it as it is nutrition in a glass. Generally you drink it on an empty stomach like mornings. You "process" it for a length of time (a week+)until the solution has "developed" to the ph needed. You need to use it up before it has gone to far past its best ph level; it can be too tart after it has aged to long. It requires a "start" and a piece of kombucha to begin--green tea/black tea bags, white sugar, pure water and a clean clear glass container, with some muslim on the top to protect it. That's the beginning of the story...Read the book. Try it. Its incredible.

Great photos with recipes.......2007-04-04
I was drawn to the great photos in this cookbook which I will try out for a library tea party next month. The book is easy to read with plenty of great recipes.
An excellent resource for tea time recipes!.......2006-08-09
This was the best book I found in terms of being a resource for tea time recipes. Every recipe comes with a picture of the finished product, and provides easy to understand instructions. I was impressed by the number of recipes on various aspects of serving tea, from sandwiches to savories, scones, and sweets. I was looking for a book for a friend, but ended up keeping this one for myself!!
Full Of Good Recipes.......2006-03-14
I have many tea-time books, and this is the best. It has lots of recipes that actually sound good. I have tried several that ARE good.
Wow! Love those pictures.......2006-01-08
I was quite pleased to find that this book had exactly what I was looking for. As a new tea-o-phile, I have been looking for more recipes for British-style afternoon tea, and this book delivers. I have not yet made any recipes (I just got the book a couple of days ago), but the descriptions are clear and the pictures are mouth-watering. This book will be dog-eared in a very short time!
Gem of a book.......2005-12-27
I got married a few years ago at a quiet home ceremony, and my father and I, armed with this book, made more delectable sandwiches and savory snacks than my guests could eat.

Customer Reviews:
Ditch Neutrogena and drink Green Tea!.......2004-04-05
Just today, Ying Chang Compestine came to our Health class (a class of 20 students) to speak to us upclose and personal about her books, her work, and a little bit of background on how she she got started.
Not once did my mind wander off when she spoke. She spoke with such excitement and passion about her work, that it didn't even occur to me to how she was able to come up with 100+ recipies all including green tea, when it was true that you can see she just loved food!
During her talk, Mrs. Compestine showed us her cooking books, a slideshow of her life as well as the video of her incorporating green tea into one of her recipes in Discovery Channel's HOMEMATTERS. Let me just say that I didn't think twice on purchasing her book.
Therefore I strongly recommend this book! You will not just be motivated to lose weight but it would also prove to you that becoming healthy through eating your favorite food is key! Oh, and for those who are really looking into losing weight. The book also included a 3-day-eating plan, using her recipies which according to her, would let you loose 3-7 lbs. :D
An Excellent Guide!.......2000-11-22
This cookbook is great--not only allowing one to enjoy the taste and the benefits of green tea, but also to experience healthy and delicious foods! I must admit, I always thought of Asian food as a difficult cuisine to prepare at home--but these recipes are easy to follow, and I had great results!
Cooking with Green tea is TAS"TEA"!.......2000-10-11
I have tried cooking with many different teas - its like having little seasonings in a convient packet. I was pleased to find a book that focused on Green Tea - especially because of Green Teas health benefits. The receipes are easy and fast, and most of all extremely tastey! I did try the 3-day green tea diet/cleansing & found it very easy as well as refreshing! I had a lot of entergy afterwards. The Green Tea vegetable soup is one of my favorites! I highly recommend the spring rolls and cold noodles in peanut sauce. Easy recipes with great taste that are good for you! [...]
YUM!!!! What a great cookbook!.......2000-09-22
I've been a fan of green tea for a long time, but I had no idea what a difference it can make in cooking! These recipes are simple, and there's a lot of variety -- everything from sauces and appetizers to entrees and desserts. The ones I've tried so far have worked out great. The author's commentary puts each dish in an interesting and useful context (health, cultural, etc.) If you're looking for a fun, interesting, and accessible collection of new dishes to try, I recommend this book!
Book Description
With its own aromas and delights, as well as a host of health bene?ts, including enhancing immune system function and lessening damage from free radicals, green tea continues to grow more popular in American diets. Yet because it is brewed differently, and many varieties of green tea are available, there is more to know about making a good cup of green tea than how to boil water.
The Green Tea User’s Manual leaves no leaf unturned, introducing 16 of the most popular types of green tea, including Dragon Well, Sencha, Jasmine, and the Japanese tea Gen Mai Cha. It describes the three stages of bubbles to look for when boiling water and the various vessels in which to brew, from pots to small covered cups known as guywans. Lovely line drawings, original recipes, anecdotes, lore, and related green tea tips help to make this irresistible little book a perfect gift for anyone with a penchant for tea.
Customer Reviews:
Helen's done a wonderful job!.......2004-06-02
This little book on green tea is written by an experienced, well, maybe professional I should have said, tea drinker and pratitioner in the US. You will get lots of information on this little book. It will turn you into a *knowledgeable* tea drinker overnight.
Helen gives a brief survey on the popular and finer green teas as well as on tea preparations and teawares... It would be a great pleasure to read. However, I wish she would make the description more elaborate. For example, if she could give a more detailed description on the Dragon Well, High Mountain (Dong Ding--Cold Summit) OOlong, Bi Luo Chun, ...the finer teas, then a greater pleasure to read.
Also you can find many useful and trustworthy resources from which you order quality teas. I highly recommend this book to any tea lovers as well as anyone who wants to give it a shot to tea!
For tea enthusists interested in venturing into green teas~.......2002-06-25
I wish that more things in life came with a nice, compact, informative manual. :-) I recommend this book to those just beginning their adventure into green teas and also for those who enjoy green tea but don't really know much about finer greens. It starts out by covering the absolute basics like what tea is, how to appreciate it, potential health benefits, brewing basics, etc. I really liked her descriptions of how to brew in a cup/mug, teapot and guywan. Also, she's spot on with infusion baskets. Tea balls or clamp spoons are terrible and she doesn't mind saying so! She then moves on to explore some of the world's most enjoyed green teas from "Gen Mai Cha" to "Yin Hao". She does an excellent job of explaining what to look for in each tea, how to brew them and infuses her personal experiences to further broaden understanding. And, not one to leave it at that, she also talks about tea bags, what to do with spent leaves and liquor, using tea as dye and tosses in some green tea recipes that sound fantastic. I put this book on the shelf right alongside the classic "Tea Companion" by Pettigrew and "The Book of Green Tea" by Rosen. Happy tea drinking!
Everything you ever wanted to know about green tea.......2002-05-08
Good, practical advice. Helen even lists green tea by brand name and tells you how to brew each one differently so that each tea's finest qualities are brought out. Read this book and you will be a "green tea expert" in no time.
Something for Everyone.......2002-01-30
Part encyclopedic, part anecdotal, The Green Tea User's Manual has something for everyone. The author writes from personal experience at both ends of the spectrum, which makes for a fascinating way to read a wealth of information. Anyone who enjoys green tea (or black, for that matter) will thoroughly enjoy this little gem.
Green Tea Made Easy.......2002-01-17
I love this little book! Green tea is all the rage, and I keep seeing articles on its health benefits. But it's also a bit of mystery - how to brew it, how to buy it, even what it is (as opposed to black tea). This small but mighty guide explains those mysteries one by one. There's a lot packed in here. The author is an expert - a "tea sommelier" (who knew such a thing existed?). But her tone is unpretentious, encouraging, charming and fun. I would recommend this book to anyone who's interested in exploring green tea but doesn't really know where to start.

Customer Reviews:
I agree--inspiring!.......2005-09-18
The focus of this book is the recipes, with health tips and benefits of various ingredients added in. The recipes are inspiring--and are part of the encouragement I need as I transition from coffee to herbal teas as my beverage of choice.
Inspiring!.......2001-08-11
I loved this book. While I've only used the smoothie/juice recipes, this book has provided me with great results. The recipes are excellent, but you also get a sense of what things you can use to create your own.
In fact, it's the only book I leave out on my kitchen counter, since I know I'm going to use it at least 3 times a week!
Ingredients for Delicious, Healthy Living.......2000-08-16
This book is a must for everyone who wants to maintain good health as well as focus on recipes to improve well-being. Having recently learned a little about the benefits of green tea, I'm happy to see suggestions which add some variety to this beverage. I've always been a fan of smoothies, and there are plenty in this little (but powerful) book.
Up until now I haven't used soy milk very much. But Anita Hirsch has included so many ways to prepare and blend this, that several are bound to become favorites.
I also appreciate seeing many other types of drink: soups and teas as well as refreshingly cold beverages. Drink To Your Health has already become a ready reference in my kitchen.

Customer Reviews:
Great Reference Book .......2007-03-28
We use this book extensively in our tea store. Most commonly known tea plants are listed in detail. What i like best is the lists for different ailments and the plants that can be use help aliviate the symptoms.
Healing Teas.......2005-08-06
This book not only gives a description of the different types of teas, it tells how they are processed from the same plant to make the different teas and the history of tea from China to India, to Japan, to Europe, to America. There is a whole section on terminology used for herbal teas, how to grow, cultivate, harvest, dry and store them. One section talks about the utensils used to brew a cup of tea, while another section talks about what herbs are used for what medical condition. What sets this book apart from other herbal tea books is how the individual herbs have subtitled sections for description & parts used, historical notes, scientific findings, traditional use, and considerations. It even has the pronunciation listed.
Great starter book on healing teas and herbs..........2002-01-01
"Healing Teas" is perfect for the beginner interested in the benefits and uses of herbal teas. For the most part the book is laid out in an easy to read formatt.
My only complaint is that the book does not have an in-depth list of ailments and their herbal remedies. Instead the book offers a four page table with some common ailments worded quite generally and then lists up to ten different plants that can potentially help. This generalization bothers me because shaking due to neverous tension is quite different than having a nerve block. Likewise, both conditions should be diagnosed and treated differently. However, the book describes these problems simply as: Nervous related problems. So, beware that "Healing Teas" is not intended to serve as a manual for curing your specific illnesses rather the book offers more generall information.
Despite this small discrepancy, "Healing Teas" offers excellent information, especially if you are a first time brewer of herbal teas. I have learned a significant ammount of herbal tea history through this book, as well as helpful information on interesting herbs that I now incorporate into my diet.
Overall, you won't go wrong with buying "Healing Teas". This book will make a fine addition to your health library.
Healing Teas: the most natural way to heal yourself........2000-06-29
Marie Antol's book on herbs is a very informative "encyclopedia" of many of the herbs that we might have grown up with and many that surround us everyday, most of them in our own backyard! She very carefully explains everything from their history to their present day uses. The book is easy to follow and shows how herbs affect our health in a most positive way and aid in the prevention of many ailments from the common cold to cancer and insomnia to weightloss. I recommend this book very highly. This book is wonderful for the beginner who is curious about herbs or the novice who wishes to have a pocket guide on hand. My book is overly dog eared and falling apart on account that I constantly am looking something up or researching an herb. If you want an herb book that covers historical facts, reference and even where to get certain herbs or are just curious. This is the book for you. Herbs are the most natural and gentlest way to heal yourself.
Great Book for First Time Herb Teas People.......1999-12-01
This is a great book. It follows the principle of Keep It Simple Stupid (KKK.) I like the fact that it explains how to brew teas and use them. I like the simple explainations. I keep this book well within reach if I need to reference any herbal tea blend.
