5 out of 5 stars Incredibly helpful; perfect size; easy to find words quickly.......2007-06-13

This little dictionary is invaluable. I use it as a resource in both directions: spanish to english and english to spanish. Its small size makes it perfect for travel, the plasticized cover makes flipping through the pages easy and fast. Words are defined and then used in various phrases with different translations, so you can learn the different usages, nuances and idioms. Also, it has a nifty feature so you can easily look up all the verb forms of any word. I speak beginner spanish, but using this little book, I'm able to send emails that sound closer to intermediate (a real achievement for me!). Finally, I appreciate that many of the english to spanish translations are appropriate for use in Spain, where I do most of my traveling. For instance, computer = ordenador; husband = marido. Highly recommended!

I'm currently taking a Spanish class and have found this to be a very useful tool. All the text is black and white but it is very clearly printed and the words you're looking up are in bold print. Love the size, fits well in my purse. Also has a useful grammar section in the middle including a mini conjugation guide. Also love the material that the cover is made of and actually purchased this particluar dictionary because it had a "turtleback" cover instead of paperback. It's kind of like a plastic that you could easily wipe off if it gets dirty. My only complaint is that when my instructor asked me to look up a word that should have given me "shower head" it said watering can, but everyother time I've looked up a word it has been accurate and 90% of the time it does have the word I'm looking for (my level is intermediate-three years in highschool and this is the second semester long college course I have taken, the first was 10 years ago.)

I picked up this dictionary to travel around Latin America. If you only need the most basic vocabulary, it might do the job. But anything beyond that is asking too much. You'll soon get frustrated looking for words and expressions that simply aren't to be found, but which any basic Spanish-English dictionary should contain.

The format of the book is great - slender, and with a durable cover. But the disadvantages are just too great. I'd recommend going for a slightly bulkier, but more comprehensive dictionary. You'll get much more out of it.

Ok, this is not Amazon's fault as they posted the dimensions of this dictionary and I should have taken out my trusty ruler.

I was hoping for a tiny dictionary. I already have several other dictionaries that are this size - the only thing smaller about this one is the THICKNESS of it. I was hoping for something with a smaller length/width.

Next time I'll buy in a store or measure the dictionaries I already have for comparison.

The cover is nice and should hold up well, but it really isn't what I was hoping for.

This was a abridged dictionary and not very useful for travel. Few food, lodging, or travel words were in it and no regional (South American variations) of words were included.

This would be helpful in reading Spanish literature and magazines but was not particular valuable in daily travel.

I ordered this book to help my students who simply can't spell. I'm amazed at how many students use this handy book to help them write essays and to correct their errors. My students find it quick and easy to use. They also tell me that this book helps them catch mistakes that a spell checker won't. I highly recommend this book to teachers who are looking for alternative ways to help poor spellers succeed.

So, you think your word processor spell checker is all you need. Wrong! I have used this book for years and reach for it often when the spell checker in my mind or the one in my computer are out to lunch. Let's see, a few bucks for the book and a few minutes to look up a word and I don't look like a stupid fool who can't spell. No question. Buy the book. It's only the cost of a lunch or a couple of cups of coffee at your favorite (barista empourium)--darn it, who borrowed my Mispeller's Dictionary? Hum...you mean this web page has no spell checker? Where's that book!

I often use my dictionary and wanted a small one to take along when I travel. This one sounded about right. However, on my last trip I found that the definitions are limited and not necessarily what I'm looking for. For the size and the price, it is satisfactory, but it doesn't compare with a full-sized dictionary.

This truly is a pocket dictionary. The small size and soft durable cover makes it easy to carry with you. The font is easy on the eyes and quite readable considering how many definitions are packed into one page. It has, however, let me down quite a few times. I generally need a dictionary to help with difficult or uncommon words and this dictionary tends to leave a lot of those out. I don't really need to carry around the definitions of cat, dog, table, coffee cup, bowling alley, etc. I need definitions to words like affiance and velleity, the last two of the long list of words I looked up that were not in this dictionary. If you have a pretty good grasp of Basic English and are looking for a pocket dictionary of difficult words, this isn't it.

This pocket dictionary is very user-friendly and concise. It is accessible to me at all times. As a high school student, I am very busy and at times, I cannot reach for a normal hardcover dictionary, so this pocket dictionary is perfect. Not only does it give the pronunciation, syllable breaks, and definition, but it also has an appendix giving common abbreviations, alternate spellings, accents, and it even features innumerable encyclopedic references! This dictionary has it all and more, and its compact size offers even better usability. If you find yourself frequently grabbing for an accessible reference book, this is the one!

    I give it a three-star because when I was looking something up, it did not have that word. This happened three times. I was very disappointed the first and second time this happened. All my friends who had the same kind of thesaurus had these problems too. I am in fourth grade student.

    As far as pure volume of words goes, this thesaurus is kind of weak. I have had many occasions when I was looking for a particular word and could not find it in this book. The book is, however, sturdy, convenient, and just full enough that I'd have to suggest it. If you do a lot of thesaurus work, then perhaps this volume isn't for you, but if you're on the run a lot and need only a fast, convenient source of similarly defined words than this is more than enough thesaurus to do the job.

    This book, yet compact is a must for everyone on the go. It will provide anyone with the needed and quick information required in a easy, obtainable version. Having this book provides the necessary information that anyone would need when "spell check" isn't available and spelling doubts are present.     I have lost 3 now, my first at school in the 2nd week, my second was stolen from me and I got up today to find my newest one freshly ruined by a washing machine. If you lose things easily, as I do, don't get it. Other than that, it is a good dictionary.
