Daily Inspiration.......2007-09-12
I bought this book along with another of Melody's. I think she is a very caring and understanding person and this book gives me daily readings to keep up my spirits and know that I am not alone and I can fix my own problems. I wasn't expecting a daily devotional type of book, but I am so glad now that I have it. They say one day at a time.. and right now that's what I'm giving.
Ok.......2007-08-03
Not what I expected it to be. More religious than I prefer and definately works with the AA platform which wasn't what I wanted.
Great inspiration - I love it.......2007-06-03
Melody Beattie has an amazing way of inspiring and clarifying. I have loved everything that I have read of hers....Definitely buy this!
Recovery for Anyone a Woman or Man.......2007-05-17

( New material about determining emotional disturbance and mental illness.

( New material on understanding the meaning of the writing rhythm.
( Handwriting of children and adolescents.
( Comprehensive, easy-to-use Index.
This book will tell you--in clear, precise terms--exactly how to analyze and interpret the handwriting of those you deal with every day: teachers, bosses, children, employees, spouses, parents, lovers, friends ... and your own handwriting as well.
Customer Reviews:
Not bad.......2007-08-23
Its a pretty old book, published in 1980, but its contents are still relevant in today's context. I also purchased Michelle Dresbold's "Sex, Lies & Handwriting" and borrowed from my local library "Handwriting Analysis: How to make it work for you" by Andrea McNichol.
On comparison of the three, Miss Dresbold's book is more like an introduction that really gets your interest in the subject, but her outstanding analysis of Jack the Ripper really got me interested in the subject (one that the other 2 books do not provide)! Miss Dresbold also highlights more lucidly the characteristics of certain dangerous traits that exists in the handwriting of people, which might provide clues to a dangerous person.
Miss McNichol's book is more like a step by step process of guiding the reader into handwriting analysis; like a school syllabus, which makes for great reading for a first timer, and in fact one would be quite adept at Handwriting Analysis once finished.
This book, by Miss Amend and Miss Ruiz... I would describe it as similar to a manual, with the greatest detail and least "introduction paragraphs" and contains the most amount of sample signatures by famous people. However, it does not highlight to the reader what stuff to look out for in people; the book draws equality to all handwriting characteristics with little embellishments.
On a personal note, with so much SMS and email going on today, handwriting is probably quite underestimated and overlooked as a tool. Also, I'm not sure if handwriting analysis can apply to cultures that also has other written forms of language, which might 'interrupt' any rules of handwriting analysis as depicted in all three books. These cultures include the Chinese (Chinese Characters focuses on strokes), Indian (particularly rounded handwriting), Thai... etc.
Still, all three books are definitely one to keep!
ADD TO YOUR SKILLS.......2007-02-02
Add one more skill to your life skills inventory to be more successful in your journey.
No body can hide his/her real emotion since now, if he/she write you something !!
Invest in this book is my opinion. the rest is up to you.
"Basic" Book that will teach you more than the basics of handwriting analysis .......2007-01-28
I have read several books on this topic. This is probably one of the most complete on this topic and certainly the best when it comes to analyzing and interpreting the handwriting of the people you deal with everyday, from bosses to children, employees, spouses, parents, lovers and friends.
Some of the other books that I read on this topic covered a lot of theory.
But this one actually shows how to analyze handwriting in clear precise terms.
I really enjoyed the handwriting analysis covering famouns people. The material on determining whether someone was emotionally disturbed or suffering from other emotional issues was also very interesting. This is also one of the only books that I have read that did a thorough job explaining the meaning of writing rhytm. If you are as interested in this topic as I am, then you may also enjoy Palm Reading: A Little Guide to Life's Secrets.
An excellent book.......2006-12-30
This is the best book that I have seen about this subject. I have inherited about 500 old family letters and I thought I might get some more insight into the writer's personalities if I studied their handwriting. This book was a big help. The author explained how the handwriting was influenced by the character of the person and the results I got was generally consistent with the information I had gleaned from the content of the letters and family history. There were a few surprises though and I gained some important insight into a couple of the family members that I wouldn't have otherwise. I highly recommend this book as it was better than the other books I consulted.
The original.......2006-12-25
The original work on the topic of graphoanalysis. A classic study with many example illustrations and great explanatory text. A must have for an interest in handwriting analysis.

Customer Reviews:
Incredibly accurate.......2007-10-02
It's like they knew everything about me...had seen every interaction with anyone i knew, just knew my thoughts and the way i was inside and out...it's strong traits and weak traits were dead on...it described me as :over-confident, exhibitionist, and unbalanced, for weaknesses and magnetic, provocative and determined for strong...and as i read more and more into the profile of my birthdate, i realized it all related to me in some small or significant way through out my life...very interesting book...very curious indeed...pick it up and have a look...or you can check it out at the nearest book store if you wanted to...my friends and anyone else i come in contact with...love this book...glad to own one...
Writing on a razor's edge .......2007-09-28
Astrology is a really controversial issue, and I did not believe in anything related with this before read this book in an airport bookstore. Everywhere I read about my sign they tell me wrong stuff and general things. After read Goldschneider book, however, I begin to believe that there is some sense at all in this matter. He made no mistakes about me, and was absolutely precise about my way of thinking. I read friends, parents and relatives descriptions too, and the level of precision was also incredable, without deep errors or misconceptions.
The research he said he made can explain much of what is said. Even if the complete meaning of what can explain astrology is obscure yet, this book has a very accurate text.
I love this Book.......2007-09-28
This book is amazing! it really does seem to capture the essential nature and habits of individuals born on a specific day. Every one who has looked themselves up has been impressed with the accuracy. we use it as a kind of icebreaker or party game. we also find that it is helpful for gaining insight if you are going to introduce someone or speak at a memorial service etc. I plan on buying copies for my children and maybe a new one for myself because we use this one so much it is getting worn out.
Great book.......2007-04-09
I had seen this book in the lobby of a hotel in SF and enjoyed it very much. I was very pleased to be able to find it on Amazaon and even happier to be able to find it in new condition. It is now a conversation piece on our coffee table.
Undescribable!.......2007-03-10
My friend Marie had this book, and let's just say it lead me to my fiancee. I decided to read the descriptions of the relationships, between my mom and I, my brothers, dad, friends, coworkers... and of a new acquaintance. In the bottom of each description it mentions what type of relationship would work best with those signs, either "Coworkers", "Siblings", "Parent/Child", etc. It turns out, that mine and my then new buddy was "Love and Marriage". I freaked out and started mentioning all the things I hated about him and how I could never deal with any of those things. It could never be! He and I were so different. Well, needless to say, a year and a half later, we're engaged and own a home. November of 2008 we will be married.
I can't wait to see what it'll say about our kids!!

Using insightful stories to bring his message to life, Ruiz shows how to heal emotional wounds, recover the freedom and joy that are one's birthright, and restore the playfulness that is vital to loving relationships. Among the themes explored are the Toltec wisdom of the heart and the war of control.

Inspired to be authentic.......2007-08-31
I enjoyed all the books put out by Don Miguel Ruiz, but this one was truly awesome. I've learned a lot about myself and the love God has for each and everyone of us. I've read this book three times and probably will read it again and again. I enjoyed his wisdom and insight.
Love thyself unconditionally!.......2007-06-08
Wish I had read this book when I was 15 years old. Even now it has been a blessing in my life! It is never too late to realize how special you are and to value the differences in each one of us. This book taught me so much about self value, self love, self esteem and consequently empowered me to create my own happiness and enjoy "la pura vida". I shared this blessing with my whole family by giving them a copy of this enlightening book.

Book Description
In this classic study, the world's leading expert on language and the mind lucidly explains everything you always wanted to know about languages: how it works, how children learn it, how it changes, how the brain computes it, and how it envolved. With wit, erudition, and deft use it everyday examples of humor and wordplay, Steven Pinker weaves our vast knowledge of language into a compelling story: language is a human instinct, wired into our brains by evolution like web spinning in spiders or sonar bats. The Language Instinct received the William James Book Prize from the American Psychological Association and the Public Interest Award from the Linguistics Society of America.
Customer Reviews:
A Brief Review of The Language Instinct.......2007-10-18
Pinker's The Blank Slate is one of my all time favorite books. The Language Instinct is good enough for me to buy a copy after reading one from the Library, but it is a tougher read, especially the first third or so. The difficulty stems from it being more technical than The Blank Slate. A book that deals in large part with linguistics has to use some of the conventions of the discipline. In addition to establishing the basic premise, that language learning has a large genetic component, I liked Pinker's concept that words per se do not control our thoughts. Thinking and the expression of thinking are not the same thing. Another thing I found helpful is the degree of complexity and difficulty for computers to understand both the words used in speech and the comprehension of the indtended thoughts.
As usual, Pinker's writing style is marvelous, and frequently funny.
Disappointing chatterbox.......2007-10-10
Maybe the man has something to say. He must have, he gets so much attention and praise. Maybe what he says is mostly right. (Not fully, so much I am sure of. There is just too much random chattering.)
My problem is, I find him unreadable. He gets praised for his 'accessibility'. What does that mean? Simplemindedness? (or do I dislike him because of his hairstyle on the cover photo?)
The man is not proving anything, even if all of his hypotheses are true. They might be. I might even wish they were.
Somebody wrote in a review here, the book is somewhere between Chomsky and Gladwell. I assumed, mistakenly, that this meant, the book is a cross of boredom and hokuspokus. That was not what the reviewer meant.
But I conclude that it is what he ought to have meant.
When do I get a readable and competent book about language and evolution?
B.F. Skinner.......2007-10-09
His ideas are condemned like all valid science that exposes truth we will not accept. Hopefully time will give B.F. Skinner the credit he deserves. The most important scientist ever!!! Read his book. It is accurate.
Utterly fascinating.......2007-09-22
When I was a freshman in college I used my roommate's computer all the time. She frequently had this book open on her desk as part of her study of HumBio (Human Biology). At some point I picked it up to take a look...and I didn't put it down until I was finished. An outstanding, utterly readable and deeply compelling look at the structures of the brain, the mind they inform and the human culture they produce. Highly recommended for all humans.
The Language Instinct.......2007-09-17
This book exploded for me. As a student in the 1970s, I had been taught that language determined thought (no word, no concept, right?) and this book reverses that completely. When Pinker notes, in the chapter called "The Tower of Babel," that a Martian would observe that human beings speak a single language, albeit one composed of 6,000 dialects, it lands with a "crash." This has been a tough book to put down -- it demands to be read and savored. The middle portions about grammar make me regret having napped through my English classes in (ironically) Grammar School when we diagrammed sentences and learned about S(ubject)V(erb)Object. It's never too late!

The spiritual premise in The Purpose-Driven Life is that there are no accidents---God planned everything and everyone. Therefore, every human has a divine purpose, according to God's master plan. Like a twist on John F. Kennedy's famous inaugural address, this book could be summed up like this: "So my fellow Christians, ask not what God can do for your life plan, ask what your life can do for God's plan." Those who are looking for advice on finding one's calling through career choice, creative expression, or any form of self-discovery should go elsewhere. This is not about self-exploration; it is about purposeful devotion to a Christian God. The book is set up to be a 40-day immersion plan, recognizing that the Bible favors the number 40 as a "spiritually significant time," according to author Rick Warren, the founding pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, touted as one of the nation largest congregations. Warren's hope is that readers will "interact" with the 40 chapters, reading them one day at a time, with extensive underlining and writing in the margins. As an inspirational manifesto for creating a more worshipful, church-driven life, this book delivers. Every page is laden with references to scripture or dogma. But it does not do much to address the challenges of modern Christian living, with its competing material, professional, and financial distractions. Nonetheless, this is probably an excellent resource for devout Christians who crave a jumpstart back to worshipfulness. --Gail Hudson
Book Description
The most basic question everyone faces in life is "Why am I here?". What is my purpose? Self-help books suggest that people should look within, at their own desires and dreams, but Rick Warren says the starting place must be with Godâand His eternal purpose for each life. Real meaning and significance comes from understanding and fulfilling Godâs purposes for putting us on earth.
"The Purpose-Driven Life" takes the groundbreaking message of the award-winning "Purpose-Driven Church" and goes deeper, applying it to the lifestyle of individual Christians. This book helps readers understand Godâs incredible plan for their lives. Warren enables them to see âthe big pictureâ of what life is all about and begin to live the life God created them to live.
Download Description
Another Landmark Book by Rick Warren. You are not an accident. Even before the universe was created, God had you in mind, and he planned you for his purposes. These purposes will extend far beyond the few years you will spend on earth. You were made to last forever! Self-help books often suggest that you try to discover the meaning and purpose of your life by looking within yourself, but Rick Warren says that is the wrong place to start. You must begin with God, your Creator, and his reasons for creating you. You were made by God and for God, and until you understand that, life will never make sense. This book will help you understand why you are alive and God's amazing plan for you-both here and now, and for eternity. Rick Warren will guide you through a personal 40-day spiritual journey that will transform your answer to life's most important question: What on earth am I here for? Knowing God's purpose for creating you will reduce your stress, focus your energy, simplify your decisions, give meaning to your life, and, most importantly, prepare you for eternity. The Purpose-DrivenT Life is a blueprint for Christian living in the 21st century-a lifestyle based on God's eternal purposes, not cultural values. Using over 1,200 scriptural quotes and references, it challenges the conventional definitions of worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and evangelism. In the tradition of Oswald Chambers, Rick Warren offers distilled wisdom on the essence of what life is all about. This is a book of hope and challenge that you will read and re-read, and it will be a classic treasured by generations to come.

insightful, filled with truth.......2007-10-02
this book is full of quotes from the Bible, telling how God wants us to live. i especially appreciated the use of several different translations and paraphrases- it really firmed up my understanding of passages i had just heard many times, but not totally grasped.
Great Book!.......2007-09-29
If your willing to devote a few minutes a day for 40 days, Rick Warren can lead you to a better life. Other than the Bible this is the best book I have ever read. If you feel your life is missing something this may be your answer. This book shows that it's all about God, no one is an accident, we were made to be part of God's family, we are shaped for God's service, we have a mission and only through seeking God can we know why we are on this planet. Rick Warren is uplifting, comforting, and this book changed my life. I hope 40 days from now you can say the same.
Purpose Driven Life.......2007-09-04
This cd was purchased as a gift. The cd is well formatted and enjoyed by my mother.
ONE OF THE BEST!!.......2007-08-28
"Everything happens for a purpose..." "Glorify God...." This book strengthened my faith in God. After the Bible, this book is the best. Thanks God for giving me the oppurtunity to read this book =)
Outstanding.......2007-08-24
Rick Warren has hit the nail on the head. The question for every believer is whether or not they are "doing" what they were created to "do." What is the purpose of each individual. The Purpose Driven Life advances that in a great way.

Information to Help You Understand your Life.......2007-10-11
Excellent information that will cause an individual to reflect on life and make an effort to improve themselves and support others along the way.
Shine the Light Deep into your Soul.......2007-09-12
This audiobook will give you the tools of insight that you will need to shine the light of awareness deep into your psyche. By learning and mapping who you are you will then be able to make your life into the one you actually want to live. Her manner can be a little off-putting at first, but if you put your ego to one side before you listen, you will find yourself immersed in the magical world of archetypal energies and they will become so very apparent to you that you will be able find the most sought after treasure on earth: self-congruence.
Entertaining Speaker Offers Symbolic Perspective.......2007-08-10
I usually don't spend this kind of money for a speaker's ideas. I've been delving into Jungian archetypes and, facing a long drive over several days, decided to spend part of that time listening to Myss's ideas. I am so glad that I made the purchase.
I had become acquainted with Myss's ideas through an earlier 4-tape set. Myss has honed her skill as a speaker in the interim. She fleshes out her views of such archetypes as the mother, magician, warrior, victim, and so on with often humorous and lively examples. Her purpose is to inspire each of us to know ourselves and others more completely by living a "symbolic life" leading to personal and spiritual growth and transformation.
This CD set seems to retain its value for resale, so when I have completely absorbed its engrossing lessons, I will be able to pass it on.
Nourishment for the Soul.......2007-06-26
I was familiar with the Sacred Contracts material, but felt weak enough in in my archetype knowledge to put off working on my archetypal wheel and chart of origin. This CD set filled in the gap quite nicely. Caroline Myss is so personable in her presentations, that you feel you are in conversation with her. I've since completed my chart of origin and am continuing to build on the knowledge gained from listening to these CDs.
A useful key to viewing the world.......2007-05-29
I find The Language of Archtypes very good. I am familiar with Carolyn Myss's from many of her other works. I do find The Language of Archetypes very interesting both in evaluating my own perceptions and as a tool in interaction with other individuals. I know I will listen to it many more times for subtilities that I missed the first time and to gain more skill in its application. I am recommending it to many of my friends.

David Abram's writing casts a spell of its own as he weaves the reader through a meticulously researched work that gently addresses such seemingly daunting topics as where the past and future exist, the relationship between space and time, and how the written word serves to sever humans from their primordial source of sustenance: the earth.
"Only as the written text began to speak would the voices of the forest, and of the river, begin to fade. And only then would language loosen its ancient associations with the invisible breath, the spirit sever itself from the wind, the psyche dissociate itself from the environing air," writes Abram of the separation caused by the proliferation of the written word.
In writing The Spell of the Sensuous, Abram consulted an engaging collection of peoples and works. He uses aboriginal song lines, stories from the Koyukon people of northwestern Alaska, the philosophy of phenomenology, and the speeches of Socrates to paint a poetic landscape that explains how we became separated from the earth in the first place. With minimal environmental doomsaying, Abram discusses how we can begin to recover a sustainable relationship with the earth and the nonhuman beings who live among us--in the more-than-human world. --Kathryn True
Book Description
David Abram draws on sources as diverse as the philosophy of Merleau-Ponty, Balinese shamanism, Apache storytelling, and his own experience as an accomplished sleight-of-hand magician to reveal the subtle dependence of human cognition on the natural environment. He explores the character of perception and excavates the sensual foundations of language, which--even at its most abstract--echoes the calls and cries of the earth. On every page of this lyrical work, Abram weaves his arguments with passion and intellectual daring.
"Long awaited, revolutionary...This book ponders the violent disconnection of the body from the natural world and what this means about how we live and die in it."--Los Angeles Times
Customer Reviews:
mixed.......2007-08-05
In this elegantly titled book Abrams argues about a "language older than words" - a language of immediacy imbued with connectedness between an (indigenous) person and her environemnt. The landscape talks and sensitive and attuned people listen and hear it speak. Abrams' `ecophenomenology' coincides with a plethora of similarly well-intentioned works that have appeared in recent years.
Abrams shares this basic idea with others - phenomenologists, philosophers, linguists, ethnographers and anthropologists many of whom performed research on indigenous peoples from around the world. For an indigenous person the intimacy between the landscape and the inner space of feeling is rather ordinary and normal, certainly nothing special. That someone has to argue that this communication even exists is, to someone living close to nature almost incomprehensible.
Be that as it may, Abrams quotes other people (indigenous folks and their observers) copiously and not always consistently. His own contribution I find a bit sketchy and perhaps even problematic. For example, he goes to great length trying to shift the blame for the ecological blindness of Western man from our absurd belief in a warlike, genocidal and jealous Hebrew deity to Greek philosophers and their use of abstract language. This is not a little disingenuous, since It is the followers of the 3 monotheistic religions that are the most responsible for dissociating humans from the polytheistic/pantheistic view of nature that honors harmony and awareness of a living landscape.... as evidenced in the stoning of ancient Hebrews who worshipped Astarte and the Earth Goddess(es), killings of pagans and mystics throughout the Medieval Europe and Arab world (e.g.; Suhrawardi in the 13th century).
Perhaps a more serious concern is that although Abrams pays lip service to the indigenous relationship with the landscape, he does this through the prism of his own logocentric viewpoint rooted in Western anthropology and phenomenology (quoting Husserl and Merleau-Ponty). His use of concepts aiming at disentangling himself from the conceptual double-bind reminds me of a fly ineffectually buzzing around spider's web. Apart from the Introduction - which is promising, as it suggests Abrams will use the book to talk about his personal experiences, insights or revelations, the book itself is a brainy, abstract and a superconceptual treatise, I personally had to skip pages as it sometimes simply got too boring. The diametric opposite of SOTS would probably be Jensen's Language Older Than Words - a brilliant personal expose on the same topic which, for reasons unclear to me, received much less attention. Be that as it may, the interest in SOTS signifies that ecophenomenology is here to stay and i personally am happy about it.
Finding Lost Connections with the World.......2007-06-12
This amazing study has put me back in touch with a truth I have always known in part, but now understand at a new depth. David Abram's understanding of language as the medium of all connexion with the world we are part of is profound and opens a realm of experience that few in the so-called developed cultures are now even dimly aware of. An enlightened and timely addition to the renewed human search for meaning.
An Awakening to Nature--The Call to Embodiment.......2007-05-27
Abrams tells the story of Earth--Gaia--as a living organism that speaks and breathes through us--and through all living things (and if we only listen, all things are living as they are part of Earth, the rhythm of all harmonizes into a breathing landscape). Abrams' work calls for a reawakening of nature, "who has lost [her] voice" (p. 138), a reawakening of our psyche that "lives the language of our lives more deeply" (p. 59). With the loss of nature, we have lost part of ourselves--we have abstracted ourselves from the environment, making the landscape irrelevant to our lives through the persistent valuing of technique and human over organic and alive. Through privileging human voices, we have forgotten to listen to the larger ecology, and have made our lives bare, commonplace. Wonder has been lost.
Abrams' works invites ecological pedagogy--pedagogy attuned to the sounds and rhythms of the lifeworld. Ecological pedagogy might use myth to reveal the energy of the world (Campbell). Myth is not a search for the meaning of life, but an "interior road map of experience", a revelation of human experience. Myth is a "singing of the universe...[that] calls us to a deeper awareness of the living itself" (Campbell). Through the retelling of myths, through the dancing or reenactment of myths (as Abrams tells us village elders do for Dreamtime (p. 170)), we can re-enliven the stories in our own time, and give more possibilities for meaning to our experiences.
Ritual might also be used in ecological pedagogy to guide us in re-enlivening the world. Rituals were performed before all important events in cultures with close ties to land--before hunting expeditions, before harvesting. We have forgotten that these matters hold meaning (i.e., we stop by Wendy's on our way home from work or school and don't give a second thought to where our food came from). Ritual is a way of offering homage to the earth, of showing appreciation and gratitude; but it is not only, or even primarily, for the earth, as Helen Payne (quoted in Abrams, p. 171) tells us is true for oral cultures. For the modern technological man, ritual would primarily reawaken the bond and awareness of the Other in nature, of animals and earth and sky. We have lost these words that "used to reverberate with meaning" (Van Mannen).
Insightful book........2007-04-19
I read this book when it was first published many years ago. After rereading it recently, I was struck by its insight and power to move me again.
Abram's is not only a visionary and a mystic but a slight of hand magician. This book is more than a eco-philosophy but shifts perceptual fields of awareness.
My only regret is the author has not written anything since this visionary work came out. Too powerful of a voice to fade into the past.
Journey.......2006-01-01
I read this book when my toddler daughter was just at a time when if I said something was a red herring she was looking for the fish, she seemed just exactly in the moment he was talking about in the text that I had long lost. Something as simple as feeling the rain on her face or trying to walk across the shine on the mall floor caused her to fear falling into the pool she saw from the surface or not knowing if it felt cold or hurt, this falling rain so rare out in her CA home, trying to tell me of rain as something changing her face. So of course I thought and thought about how real and valid her perceptions were and how close her knowing rode to experiences from the natural world. So I fell into his text and into the violet gathering patches of my childhood in West Virginia and away from the years of spraying, consuming, packaging, peeling, refining and defining within our cultural context. It was a lovely trip into feeling. I do so recommend the book.

Book Description
Rise up nimbly and go on your strange journey to the ocean of meanings...
In the mid-thirteenth century, in a dusty marketplace in Konya, Turkey, a city where Muslim, Christian, Hindu, and Buddhist travelers mingled, Jelaluddin Rumi, a popular philosopher and scholar, met Shams of Tabriz, a wandering dervish. Their meeting forever altered the course of Rumi's life and influenced the mystical evolution of the planet. The bond they formed was everlasting--a powerful transcendent friendship that would flow through Rumi as some of the world's best-loved ecstatic poetry.
Rumi's passionate, playful poems find and celebrate sacred life in everyday existence. They speak across all traditions, to all peoples, and today his relevance and popularity continue to grow. In The Illuminated Rumi, Coleman Barks, widely regarded as the world's premier translator of Rumi's writings, presents some of his most brilliant work, including many new translations. To complement Rumi's universal vision, Michael Green has worked the ancient art of illumination into a new, visually stunning form that joins typography, original art, old masters, photographs, and prints with sacred images from around the world.
The Illuminated Rumi is a truly groundbreaking collaboration that interweaves word and image: a magnificent meeting of ancient tradition and modern interpretation that uniquely captures the spiritual wealth of Rumi's teachings. Coleman Barks's wise and witty commentary, together with Michael Green's art, makes this a classic guide to the life of the soul for a whole new generation of seekers.

Truly Rumi.......2007-08-23
Excellent job of portraying Rumi and presenting appropriate Rumi reminders throughout the year. So glad Coleman Barks is a part of...
who is the beloved?.......2007-04-27
Going through this book was my introduction to Rumi. And a profound one it was. Through the interwoven effect of Rumi's poetry rendered by Coleman Barks and the beautiful images by Michael Greene, I came closer to understanding the Universal meaning of The Beloved and Divine Love.
This book somehow illustrated spiritually cryptic things for me: What does it mean to have compassion for The Other? What does Sacred Interconnection mean? How do we love our selves or others in that secret place where there is no ego, no fear, no illusion?
Take your time with this book. Don't expect results right away. I found that I got some things from it almost immediately... And other things I had to come back to a few times in contemplation, or many times, to really appreciate.
I found it amazing how Michael Green's collages of modern (colliding atomic particle paths), ancient, religious and astronomy photography, brought about inner movement and emotion within me.
A great gift for yourself if you are a Seeker...and also to those of your friends who are, too, whether they know it or are about to find out.
This book has led me to explore other translations of Rumi. Above all, it has helped get me to a greater appreciation of the universality of the Love of God, sans the human limitations that religion, culture, gender or language restrict the word "God" to.
almost indescribable.......2007-04-12
It's often said you can't gain any true 'mystic experience' or 'hidden wisdom' from 'reading a book'. Often that holds true, but things like Rumi are the exception. I'm the sort of person who hates poetry. I relished the accidental "Cruel prank" done on the "Poetry Analasyst" in the late Mr. Vonneget's "God bless you Mr. Rosewater". But, Rumi moves me to joy, to tears to love and to feelings beyond. And this book is an excellent tribute to him. Well worth getting multiple copies, for you will likely loan them to people who'll keep them forever!
Amazing.......2007-01-26
As a lifelong bookworm, I've gotta say: this one is a gem. Incredible illustrations, and a caringly, lit glimpse into the mystery and depth of Rumi. One of those ones you want to pass on to the most special people in your life. The kind of literature that runs against the grain of our aggravating times and quickly reminds us of something higher to aspire to.
An outstanding introduction to Rumi!.......2007-01-05
In the 13th Century, a Moslem scholar, philosopher and poet, from what is now modern Turkey wrote of the human condition The condition hasn't changed and the words still have the same impact as when written. Hence, he remains popular as ever. Perhaps one might think the terms philosopher and poet off putting. This is not the case. He writes in a style to encourage intuitive thinking rather than our usual logical Western style. This is the mode necessary to understand man's deeper nature. It is a style shared by those wishing spiritual and psychological enlightenment. Reading Rumi makes one a more thoughtful deeper person. Curl up with this book by yourself where you are free from distraction and have the time to let your mind wander. You will get nowhere reading this while commuting or watching TV!
This is book is the place to start with Rumi. The illustrations not
only compliment the writing but are picked to give you a psychological study of what is being said. The current translation is the best I have seen for the modern American World. Coleman Bark's translation of an ancient language into our vernacular makes you feel like Rumi wrote the original English version.

Customer Reviews:
The title of this book is decieving.......2007-09-10
This book is a human resource management book covering different areas in HR management with many boring and tedious examples. The book focuses on interview setting questions, employement and hiring. I was looking for a book on language, word structure and influencing techniques but this book is the complete opposite. In addition, this book does not have a "search inside" option nor a description.
Brilliant.......2007-08-27
I would recommend this book to anyone who has studied nlp or interested in the art of influence and wishes to further expand their knowledge. This books describeds meta programs in a very simple and straight forward way and how they are structured to fit the workplace, relationships (personal or professional) or any other context where you need to get yourself across efficiently and effectively.
Believe me when i say this is not a business book..it has a very readable writing style and helpful summary / appendicies section. I would recommend this book to anyone who really want's to use words that will change minds!
Informative with simplicity and clarity.......2007-08-11
This book is easy to read and very informative. If you have done NLP training you would have come across the Meta Programs, then this book takes your learnings to another level and gives indepth information on behaviours of people. A must read if you want to increase your ability to read people and their behaviours.
Great way to develop communication skills for change and better being!.......2007-07-29
This book is a great source of knowledge for people inner worlds from a perspective of who we get motivated, how we make desicions and move to action.
For those who know NLP it is a great guide for metaprograms and a lot of practical samples for the real life.
It is mainly focused on how to get results improving our communication skills, discovering how we can design our conversations to achieve the desired results.
Not what I expected.......2007-07-22
I am a hypnotherapist and I was looking for something to compliment that line of thinking. This book was not it. It is targeted at the business world. Perhaps persons in management could use it, but for everyday conversation, it doesn't help.
