Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

With over 400 prompts in this book there is one to suit every mood and these will not only encourage you to write regularly but get your creative juices flowing. What's more each of the prompts target specific areas of your writing such as story endings, developing character & plot. It also addresses nonfiction, poetry & screenplays...and I am using it to improve my blog writing.
I own a number of books on this topic (including "What If? Writing Exercises for Fiction Writers") but find the format and content of Jack Heffron's Writers Idea Book to be the most practical, inspiring and effective. Thanks Jack!

5 out of 5 stars straight to the point.......2005-05-09

to add to the other reviews, I like this book because I'm the type of writer that needs an "assignment" to make sure I don't keep writing about the same things. With this book, it's easy to follow along and take out what you need and go back later to the other prompts the second or third time around. I'm a firm believer that a person should go through a book like this two or more times to get the full benefits.

4 out of 5 stars Prompts, prompts, and more prompts!.......2004-04-28

Jack Heffron's "The Writer's Idea Book" is a very good specimen of a book of writers' exercises. It mixes "prompts" of various sorts (more than 400 of them according to the cover, and I believe it!) with short riffs of practical advice on a wide range of writing matters. While Heffron is a professional editor and does give advice regarding methods that he believes work best, he concentrates on writing for yourself in this book rather than trying to get published. This is just the idea phase after all--check out his later book, "The Writer's Idea Workshop," for practical advice regarding taking your idea from raw ore to refined metal.

There are many prompts meant to help you mine your own experiences for ideas and plots. (As well as your likes and dislikes, your family, your home town, places you've visited, "public moments," secrets, dreams, and more.) There are prompts to help you explore different forms of writing, structure your story, and more. There are even good solid hints on dealing with openings and endings. The huge number of prompts in this book guarantees that you should be able to find something to spark your creativity no matter what mood you're in.

In fact, about the only thing that bothered me about this book was the lack of the unusual. I love genre. Horror, science fiction, fantasy--I love the strange, and this book had a very "literary" feel to it. That'll make it perfect for many other writers out there, but it left me a little flat. I like to have a certain otherworldliness come into play when looking through lots of writing exercises and warm-ups. This book is meant to push you into finding inspiration from the ordinary rather than the extraordinary; I would have liked a better balance.

It's certainly a fun book, however, and definitely a kick in the inspiration department!

5 out of 5 stars highly recommended.......2004-03-11

If you want to be a writer but you're not sure where to start, and where to look for ideas then I highly recommend this book. It's a great book also if you're stuck in a rut in your writing. Basically this book has writing excercises for you to get going on your path as a writer. There are even story ideas, and basically its just a book to get you going, to get you start writing. I really like this book, I think that its the best one out there on this subject. The book is most encouraging to writers to keep going in the craft.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book for writers!.......2003-08-27

This is a fantastic book! It covers all of the areas that many writers have problems with, and helps you get through them. Mary Heaton Vorse once said, "Writing is the art of applying the seat of the pants to the seat of the chair" and this book agrees. This book is full of prompts designed to get your juices flowing, and above all, get you writing! Even the most die-hard procrastators and people who are very afraid of writing anything uless it's perfect (like me)will be writing in no time. Most of all, this book showed me that you don't have to be published to be a writer. Any one who writes is a writer. Buy this book, you'll be happy you did.

One would be wise to focus not on this book's title, but on its subtitle. The book has little to do with creative writing. It has everything to do with creative marketing, for people who write--for people who, like Stan Corwin, see the word exploit and its derivatives as having positive connotations. Not that we have anything against milking an idea for all it's worth ... we just don't want anyone to be misled. What Corwin is interested in here is creating a product "that can be marketed in several different areas." Forget the old "if you loved the book, see the movie" cliché, says Corwin. "If you loved the book," he says, "see the cable special, listen to the tape, play the electronic game, and put the calendar on your desk."

"Your expertise in the field you are writing about is a tangible asset in your book presentation," says Corwin, and indeed, he is unusually qualified to have written this book. In the late 1980s, he published a book-tape combo called Is Elvis Alive? that became a New York Times bestseller. That segued into a television special, an is-Elvis-dead toll-call poll (1 million people paid $1 each to make that call), and a toll-free Elvis-product line, which featured yet another book and a video. Corwin was there at the beginning for Dr. Stillman's Quick Weight Loss Diet, Al Secunda's The 15 Second Principle, Elaine Partnow's Quotable Woman, and Helen Santmyer's And Ladies of the Club. "There is a whole new media world out there ready to be exploited for the right commercial media or book property," says Corwin. You just have to hit upon next year's "trendy topical subjects" and know how to market them. Corwin's primer, 172 pages though type size and white space are both generous, discusses the creation and protection of your idea, the media marketplace, the publishing world, and the various spin-off markets: movies, television, audio and video, the Internet, and merchandising. --Jane Steinberg

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2002-03-05

The book falls short speciallly because of the foreword by Syd Field. The author just kept repeating the the same imformation throughout the whole book. On each chapter he tells about the different ideas he came up with, but there is a lack of information on how to get started, and resources that could guide you even further. There isn't even a bibliography of websites and other books. Beyond the idea, you won't know where to go, or how to make it roll. I think that these days a book should include resources specially from the internet since we are living in a digital era.

Product Description

In "How to Get Your Husband to Go to Church With You," the author shares powerful biblical principles on how to turn a marriage around so a husband may find God and consistently go to church with his wife. As a saved spouse with spiritual knowledge, God can use you to facilitate His will for your husband to attend church. The author includes anecdotal information based on her own struggle with her husband going to church. If your husband has never gone to church, if he has not been in years or attends only occasionally this book is ideal for you! God's Word does not change; He will do what seems impossible for you by changing the heart of our husband to become church goer. Jesus died on the cross and paid the price for our sins. He also purchased redemption for every area of our lives, including our marriages. God gave us a covenant of love sealed with the precious blood of His Son whereby we can live victoriously. This book will show you how to enforce the victory Jesus already won for you the victory of your husband going to church with you - the victory of your husband going to church with you!

5 out of 5 stars faith IS the victory.......2007-07-31

As a husband whose wife does not go to church with him, I read this book from the perspective of a man having a similar problem but with his wife - the same spiritual truths apply to men! If a man would implement what this book instructs, he too could learn to operate in faith and allow God to move on his situation. Armed with knowledge of the scriptures and an understanding of the actions I can take, I have every expectation that my wife will soon be going to church with me! This book provided me with the hope and tools that not only this situation but any situation I may face can be turned around by God

5 out of 5 stars Faith in Action.......2007-06-25

As a single woman, never married, I was not sure how this book would apply to me. I found this book to be an outstanding account of "Faith in Action." The biblical references and examples of standing in faith for God's promises apply to all of us. I was moved by the honesty of the author to share her experience and the willingness of her husband to allow this story to be told. I also learned a lot about the importance of respecting your husband, standing on the promises of God (regardless of how the situation looks) and faith that the Lord will accomplish his plan for our life if we don't give up. It is a story of hope, perseverence and victory! I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars How to apply the word on God in your life.......2007-06-22

When I started reading this book I could not put it down. I was astounded by its practicality to my every day life. The principles used in this book can be applied to any situation. The book is a loaded with scriptures and also real life experiences which gives you hope that you are not alone. Loved the book, and greatly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Book packed with bible living techniques.......2007-04-27

This book is packed with little known bible techniques to help carry out God's plan for you and your family. Don't let your denomination hinder your exploration of God's Word.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Read!.......2007-04-12

This book lends instruction on how to get the promises of God to manifest in your life. The best kind of prayer is ANSWERED PRAYER. It is a read that will get you excited about what is truly available to you through the scriptures. I have never read a book that offers instruction on 'How to be baptized in the Holy Spirit'. These principles apply to anything that you are praying for, not just a husband who isn't going to church. It's worth its weight in scriptures!

    Book Description

Edgar Rice Burroughs was not satisfied with creating characters and events within the world that we know; instead he created whole new worlds for histories, and he filled them with peoples, languages, cities, wars, plants, machines, and monsters that were believable to the reader, yet still alien and fantastic enough to thrill and delight.

From A-Kor, the keeper of the Towers of Jetan in Manator, through Zytheb, one of the priests of Brulor in Ashair, this is a comprehensive reference to the fantastic worlds of Burroughs. Each entry provides a complete definition, along with a reference to the book in which the entry appeared. For terms, the language, either actual (e.g., Latin and French) or Burroughs-created (e.g., The Tongue of the Great Ape or Pal-ul-don), from which it was derived is given.

          Book Description

Almost three hundred years after his birth in 1694, this is the first comprehensive study of Voltaire's contes philosophiques - the philosophical tales for which he is now best remembered and which include the masterpiece Candide. The Fables of Reason situates each of the twenty-six stories in its historical and intellectual context and offers new readings and approaches in the light of modern critical thinking. It rejects the traditional view that Voltaire's contes were the private expression of his philosophical perplexity, written merely in the margins of his historiography and his campaigns against the Establishment. Arguing that narrative is Voltaire's essential mode of thought, the book stresses the role of the reader and shows how the contes are designed less to communicate a set of truths than to encourage independence of mind. Roger Pearson has written a witty, lucid and scholarly guide to the `fables of reason' with which Voltaire undermined - and continues to undermine - the religious, philosophical, and economic `fables', by which other thinkers have tried to explain and direct human experience.

3 out of 5 stars Good Story Starters.......2005-11-20

This book is 160 pages, but there is only one prompt per page, so (minus the 8 pages of copyright info, etc.) that gives you 152 writing prompts. Not quite worth the $12.99 I paid for it when it came out, but certainly worth it if you can get it for the minimal price it's now listed at.

There are some good prompts in here to get you thinking and get you started in your journals. If you need some extra ideas to keep you going then pick this book up.

2 out of 5 stars Poster child for purpose and audience issues..........2004-05-19

"Idea Catcher: An Inspiring Journal for Writers" sounded like a cool idea. It's filled with little "prompts," and you use the blank page beneath each to free-write or take notes on things you can use in your writing. Normally I enjoy prompts and exercises, but this journal didn't thrill me.

Some of the prompts are engaging, but most just left me flat. Sure, some of this is going to be individual preference. However, I think I do have a few valid quibbles. For example, each prompt comes with the rest of one blank page of paper. Great in theory, but some of the prompts clearly seem to be exercises that will take up *much* more than one blank page of paper. Other prompts just don't seem to suggest anything further to write about at all.

The book is broken up into a handful of sections--Ideas, People and Characters, Conversation and Dialogue, Descriptions, Observations, Names and Titles, and Dreams and Anecdotes. The introduction suggests that, for example, if a person somewhere strikes you as interesting, you should flip to the "People and Characters" chapter and jot down your observations. First, this makes the book sound more like a workbook or, well, a blank notebook that happens to have some quotes in it, than a journal. Second, none of the pages are numbered. So if you want to flip to a certain section, it could take you a while to find what you want.

This book's problems boil down to two things. It can't quite decide who it's aimed at: Writers who want guidance to help them write about something every day? Writers who think blank notebooks aren't good enough to do free-writing and take down observations in? It also can't quite decide what it wants to be: Is it an exercise workbook? Is it a journal with something interesting for people to write about every day? Is it a notebook for taking down observations in, that just happens to have quotes across the tops of the pages?

Ultimately, I don't recommend this book. If you want a journal, you can do better by cutting neat quotes out of the newspaper, copying interesting exercises out of writing books, and pasting them at the tops of the pages in a blank notebook. And if you want neat prompts, there are plenty of books out there that will give you much more bang for your buck, like Heffron's "The Writer's Idea Book" or Rekulak's "Writer's Block".

          4 out of 5 stars Great prompts........1999-11-30

Although this book is intended for writers to gain story ideas, it is also full of great inspirational prompts for any journaler. I especially like the reminders to pay attention to your surroundings and write about them, whether you are in the supermarket or on a bus. Even my 10-year old was writing as a result of the ides in this book.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Springboard for beginning writers........1999-08-14

A variety of different prompts from imagination strainers to quotes from successful writers are divided into sections such as Charachters, Description, Observation, etc. Very useful to flip back through when you need a certain element for a piece and bring up an old idea.

          5 out of 5 stars I loved it!.......1998-03-13

I absolutely love this book. When it says "inspirational journal for writers" it means it. It takes quotes, ideas, methods other writers have used and really pushes your own ideas forth. And it helps you work through ideas, dialogue, characters, names, and more! I'd reccommend this one to anyone.
