Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Excellent Resource for ESL Teachers!.......2007-05-24
I was lucky enough to be in a situation where my adult ESL classroom had enough in-classroom copies for all students to use during classtime. I used this almost everyday. It's a fantastic way to teach new vocabulary, especially when you combine its use with other teaching tools, such as acting out motions. I often had my students use the books to quiz each other. This is a good resource, and if you can get enough copies for everyone in your class to share, DO IT!
Very helpful.......2006-08-19
I host foreign exchange students and the first few weeks this helps them out till they get just a better grasp of the English language. Most come with a very good understanding, but if they need to go to the doctor's or something this picture dictionary is just the thing to help out. It is useful around the house also.
Very Highly Recommended.......2004-01-27
One of my specialties is vocabulary, so I'm always looking good visual dictionaries. I've bought half I've found, and most of the rest are on my shopping list. This is a very close second to the Oxford Picture Dictionary as my favorite. It's not as comprehensive and the illustrations are not as good, but the topical arrangement is better and it's easier on your budget. The authors have written several other excellent ESL books. Two of their vocabular books include a basic version of this one and Day By Day: English For Employment Communication. Their Foundations is a conversation book but is also a good vocabulary builder.
Ultimate ESL Resource - - I Love It, My Students Love It ! !.......2000-11-06
By the authors of SIDE BY SIDE this is a much more colorful and better organized picture dictionary than the formerly more popular OXFORD PICTURE DICTIONARY. Whenever I bring it to class, if the students don't have it, the first thing atleast 70% will ask me is "Where can I get it ?" - - used with the accompanying flash cards (not included) you can teach entire (and substantive) lessons with just those two things alone... and even without it, you can use it to expand amply from whatever text book you're using. The chapters on the household, occupations, places around town, work activities are especially useful. In my begining classes we learn how to ask each other questions about these subjects, and begin all our classes discussing what we did over the weekend, what we did at work etc. etc. We talk about our house, our family... and all these topics are with Level 1 students, eye to eye (pair work, group work, class discussion)and facilitated by lessons from this book. - - Pictures get students talking and open them up and this is the ultimate resource ! ! !
As a tip, the students love looking at the pictures and discussing them, so to keep activities interactive, have students share books... or make worksheets where the students have to exchange information ! ! !
Great reference book!.......1999-09-02
Illustrations are somewhat dated and the colors on some pages need to be sharper but the book is quite thorough and a great pictionary overall.
Customer Reviews:
useful, but not what I thought.......2007-05-12
This book is set up for Russian learners, so it is less useful to those of us English readers trying to learn Russian. I bought it as well as the Oxford Picture Dictionary, which is also for Russian learners of English. That book does not have questions at the bottom as this book has, but since they are all in English, it does not help with the Russian at all. There is a glossary list at the back of the book, so that is helpful. (The Oxford book also has the glossary, and with pronunciation, BUT--for the English words!)
disappointing.......2004-04-06
True, this book has almost every imaginable word you would need if visiting Russia or trying to communicate with your new child from Russia BUT it does NOT have any pronounciation help. Every word is written, well, in the Russian alphabet. So unless you can read Russian letters and pronounce them, this book is really no help.
Awesome for older children adopted from Russia!.......2000-12-30
We are in the process of adopting a 15 year old boy from Russia. While we are learning Russian, I doubt we will know enough to converse with him those first few months. This book is awesome! It has pictures for just about anything you could think of!! And, next to the pictures are both the English and Cyrillic words. For example, there is a page that shows a daily routine of getting up, taking a shower, brushing your teeth, etc. It has pictures for every object in your house. It has food items. Grocery store items. Sports. School activities. It is absolutely wonderful!! I feel very confident that we will be able to communicate with our new son.

excellent beginning dictionary with clear colorful pictures.......1999-03-04
As a kindergarten teacher, I am always looking for very simple reference books which will teach even the youngest students how to locate and use information. This dictionary does exactly that.I have many copies of the book and they are used hard and often on a daily basis in my kindergarten classroom.
Customer Reviews:
Great from birth and up!.......2007-08-24
My boss gave my daughter this book when she was born. It is about in tatters because of her and her younger brother's heavy use. When they're little they love the bright pictures and later they like pointing to things and words they know. It's a great tool for letter, word, shape, color, number, animal and etc recognition. I now give it as a baby gift to my friends and relatives.
"My Learning Book".......2007-04-11
My five year old grandaughter is thrilled with the book, as am I. She calls it her "learning book" and keeps it on her bed as a treasure. We practice looking up words and she will be a dictionary junkie!
My First Dictionary.......2007-01-12
Very good dictionary. Very easy for a Kindergartener to pick out letters and words from the pictures. Helps greatly with her homework. She will be using it for several years to come.
Great for kids of all ages!.......2001-07-09
My kids have all loved this book from the age of 16 months. Most toddlers love to find the "banana" (or many other items on each page) when asked to find the banana. Every year they will find some new picture that they never noticed before. My five-year old is into "pirate", while my 18-month old loves the "hundred" stars. There is so much to look at on every page! I will give this book as a gift to my nieces and nephews for years to come.
Great dictionary for young children!.......2000-10-25
The best thing about this dictionary is that it has a picture for EVERY word. It allows children who are not reading yet to identify the words by themselves. In addition, this dictionary is in alphabetic order. I have looked through numerous 'picture' dictionaries which group words in subject (i.e. science, nature, body, etc.) To me, this is confusing if you are trying to truly look up a word. As well as the other 'picture' dictionaries did not have pictures for every word. This is wonderful for my kindergartener to be able to look up words on her own. In addition, her school is working on letters each week and she is able to look up words for the letter of the week to get ideas of items she can bring in! I think this dictionary should be a required book for children starting school, it's GREAT!

a little outdated..........2007-08-01
I bought this book to help me learn Spanish vocabulary and I like it a lot. The pictures are very cute and it is also good to have the Spanish and the English. The only problem I have is that some of the words are words that are no longer used in Spain, or words that are only used in South America. If you are trying to learn South American Spanish, then it is the perfect book for you, but if you want to learn Spanish from Spain, then it is helpful if you have someone that can go through the book and point out the words NOT to learn.
Wonderful Spanish Book for Kids (& Adults).......2007-03-12
This word book is great! My son already knows more Spanish than I do, but I was in search of a book to help with every day words and this book is great! I have learned alot from it and the pictures are a plus too!
Great for Beginners.......2007-01-20
My toddler loves this book because of the photos of objects and children. Other books I looked at had illustrations but were harder to understand. This one is great!
My First Spanish Word Book / Mi Primer Libro De Palabras EnEspañol.......2006-07-03
EXCELLENT BOOK FOR KIDS EDUCATION, TO LEARN ENGLISH OR SPANISH
Great supplement to Flip Flop Spanish - or any class!.......2005-12-31
I use this book in all my Spanish classes, ages 4 to 18, to build vocabulary. It has photos of items, so there's no guessing as to what the vocabulary is about - it's large enough to hold at the front of the classroom (it's not a huge room, but you get the idea) and point as we repeat the words and then to quiz the students, or drill one at a time. A great resource to boost your child's vocabulary or review items from a workbook like Flip Flop Spanish - the only drawback is there's no phonetic spelling and no CD, so if you're not sure on pronunciation, that may be something to think about.

This One's Hard to Beat!.......2004-12-14
I bought this book for my son when he was about 14 months old, and he loved it from the first moment he laid eyes on it. Now, at almost 21 months old, he's still fascinated by it and can name about 75% of the pictures in the book. It is organized into categories so that kids learn which things go together (e.g., apples, bananas, and grapes are all fruit). We take it almost everywhere, but it is especially useful on long car trips. While in the car, we can find things we see outside and then figure out where they are in the book, or at least what category they might go into if they aren't in the book.
I haved tried to purchase this for friends' children, but to no avail; this version seems to be quite hard to come by.
Nearly as good is the updated "My Big Word Book" by Roger Priddy. I think the layout of that book is more attractive, but I worry about the durability of the spiral binding. All in all, however, I have yet to find a Priddy book that wasn't a big hit with my toddler!
Great book.......2004-06-17
My 18 month old twins just love turning the pages of this book and looking at all the pictures. I bought this book when they were less than a year old, and they would be overjoyed when I would sit down with them and point out and name the different objects on the page. Now that they are older, they want to hold the book and turn the pages for themselves and in the process have torn many pages of this much loved book. I think this book is a great teaching tool for parents of young children.
Worth the buy (again) for my younger children.......2004-01-22
This is the third time I am purchasing this book. The first two were so loved and worn that the pages eventually fell out. Now my two year old is interested in naming everything under the sun, and he deserves his own Big Book of Everything. If he wears through this one before my 6 month old is ready for it, I'd buy a fourth.
Not just for 4 and up..........2003-04-03
I've given this book (and its earlier editions) often as a new-baby gift for babies in the US and abroad. I feel that it's a great present for non-native speakers, because of all the words you only learn in your native language!
My granddaughter, age 22 months has loved it for about the last year, as have other very young children I know. For a while, she called it "a book" -- that is, the only one she really acknowledged. She's now branched out to other books but still enjoys identifying the photos in this one. She doesn't care if they're obscure, she likes discussing them, and her favorite pages vary over time. Like the other reviewers, I'll soon be buying a new copy as the first one is wearing out. Maybe the publisher should consider a hard-page edition.
Visual Journey.......2001-08-25
My first impression was that this book was overly stocked with pictures. However, on a second look I could see the benefit of grouping items together and putting many items on one page. You can teach many items that relate to other items you will find in your home or in the world as you travel.
This is a visual journey for children that includes 800 brilliantly colorful pictures. Even the inside covers are "covered" with pictures. For the young child, you can start with the familiar items around the home like a lamp, a vase, a telephone, bed, toothpaste and highchair.
The section on clothes teaches all the basics...then onto the toys. That will most likely be one of the favorite areas in this book. Cooking and baking might encourage more adventure in the kitchen. Maybe using this book to introduce a child to the names of kitchen essentials will get them interested in making something delicious.
Other sections include: Food to eat, Fruit, vegetables, In the workshop, Flowers and plants, Weather, and Seasons and times. Then onto: On the farm, In the countryside (love the meadow picture!), Big Animals, Small animals, Baby animals, Birds. The theme changes constantly and next you will see hot-air balloons and everything that flies in the sky.
Children who live in the city will love: In the sea, At the seaside, Noises, Animal noises (you have to love the mouse on this page!). Children in the country will love: In the city, Buildings, Building machines, Shopping (yummy markets and bookstores). In the jobs people do, children are dressed up in each of the main job descriptions.
"Me and My Body" is a section to explain the names of the mouth, back, eyelashes, teeth..etc. Things we do such as crying, touching, eating, throwing a ball, hiding, laughing are all pictured with the word of the activity. Shapes and patters lists the main shapes at the top of the page and then you can find the patterns and shapes in what you see in the pictures.
For instance, the red square looks like the windows and the star looks like the starfish. The counting section is especially tasty with all sorts of candies to count.
Then, the next page opens and you see hills, deserts, a waterfall, a river, a volcano and much more. Each word has a picture and each picture is a delightful look at the world around us. To easily find a word your child is learning...just use the handy index to look up words like store, toothbrush, jaguar, cyclist or even beach.

a nice book, with a helpful way to learn some Japanese words.......2007-09-22
I bought this book in a bookstore before we moved to Japan; I was so excited to see a Japanese picture book that my daughter may enjoy that I bought it immediately. In reading through it before our move here, it was interesting, although a bit dense with information since I initially bought it for my preschool-aged daughter. This may be more useful for adults or school-age kids who want to learn Japanese words in a context beyond just memorizing the words and their meanings, but rather associating pictures with the Japanese words and how they are pronounced. The pictures are good, and my daughter enjoys looking at them for a little while; however, they really are geared more toward adults or school-age children (i.e. they are not the fun and happy pictures to which preschoolers or that age group are typically drawn). I do still go over it in limited doses with my 3-year old to help her learn Japanese words, but this is not a book she will pull off the shelf and look through on her own (she does do that with most of her other books).
Now that I am living in Japan and learning the language and having to use it in everyday life, I find myself reading this book more than my daughter, where it is useful as a tool to increase my vocabulary. There is also a nice index in the back of the book with both the english as well as romaji text for the Japanese words. I wouldn't use this book by itself to learn Japanese, but do not think that was ever its intention anyway. This is a nice book in that it does include the kanji/hiragana/katakana text for the words as well as how it is pronounced. The actual Japanese script for the words is great because it can help you identify it on packaging or other times you need to learn the written word. For a real beginner, having the romaji pronunciation help there is a plus, since learning all of the kanji scripts and their respective pronunciations can be more than a little overwhelming (at least there are more limited numbers of hiragana and katakana scripts to learn). For those of us learning Japanese and needing to use it in everyday life, having the romaji pronunciation there is a big help, vs. a more academic approach of strictly learning all of the Japanese script (kanji, hiragana, katakana) for the words.
Love the layout of this book!.......2007-01-11
I have never seen a "dictionary" laid out this way, but I love it! Every time you turn a page you get a two page spread of a scene from daily life: school, work, home, neighborhood, etc. - kind of "Where's Waldo" style. Within the picture almost everything is labelled in Japanese. It's really a great idea for helping kids (and adults) link the internal concept of a thing or action with the spoken word for that action, rather than trying the translation approach. A really great learning aid!

Bought for my daughter (5). She is learning English. It's awesome!
Good book, would have preferred no romaji.......2006-03-18
Children's book or no, I was hoping this picture dictionary would be very useful. Unfortunately its usefulness is abated by the use of romaji. Do not be mistaken, kana and kanji are used -- each word/image is broken up into English, romaji, and its proper kana or kanji. However, I would very much have prefered that it just be English, kana, and kanji with furigana/rubi where required.
As it stands, the romaji becomes a crutch. Not to mention it is the only way of learning the pronunciation of the kanji, something I very much dislike.
If you don't mind this issue, then it is otherwise a very good book.
Beginning Book.......2004-02-11
I got this book some years ago. I used it to name things in some of my pictures, but other than that, It's not very helpful to me. But I used this book for a while. But as I got more advanced in Japanese, the book was opened less. I'd recommend this book with another book or computer program, one that teaches simple sentences and also Hiragana, Katakana, and is you feel up to learning it, Kanji.

Your child will love this book.......2007-04-11
My child is really enjoying this book. I think what she likes so much about it is that the book uses a visual method with 2 page spreads that visually communicate the meanings of words. This huge-size dictionary has her learning from detailed depictions of people, places, actions, and things. She is learning about things that she can actually relate to like things in the home, the classroom, sports, and animals. There is also a helpful index and glossary for parents to use. I give this book five stars. But I am wondering why I cannot find a Spanish learning one just like this one to teach kids.
work on it.......2007-02-19
You must work on it and keep up with it or you will lose it.
great way fun way to expose your children to Italian........2004-08-29
Our kids love this book! The pictures in this book grabbed their attention. It's a fun way to put the English words to Italian words. And if you don't know how to say a word, you can look in the Glossary and it will tell you how to say it.
