A Must Have For Any Medical Student.......2007-10-10
This is a lifesaver of an asset for any medical student, human or vet. Highly recommend adding to any college book list!
You can't trust a book by it's cover..........2007-10-09
Good dictionary. However, there are better ones (particularly Tabers). I have less physically attractive medical dictionaries with no color and a boring cover that seem to have the definitions I am looking for when Stedman's doesn't. Adequate dictionary but perhaps Taber's in a better value.
a long-time standard biomedical reference book.......2007-09-07
Stedman's is a great reference book with lots of up-to-date information. It's a necessity for anyone involved in any of the branches of biomedicine or the allied health professions.
The only disappointment is the accompanying CD. It is really worthless. It contains artwork and images that are mostly low resolution and add little of value to the written text. If the publishers want to give readers a useful CD or set of CDs, then provide a precis' with as much detail as possible from the entire printed volume in PDF format that can be loaded onto a PC or add some informative animations. But forget about the fuzzy still images.
Kendra's Review.......2007-07-30
This is an excellent book. The book is a good source for medical terms and their meanings. There are also nice color illustrations as well. The book also contained a CD-ROM which included a spellchecker and additional images. I highly recommend this book if you are planning to take any medical courses.
Wonderful illustrations and references.......2007-06-12
I am not in the health-care field, but am a big health-care consumer, and read a lot of technical books on various diseases. This dictionary has been invaluable in looking up terms I've encountered in other books, and just for general information. I usually end up with four or five fingers stuck in the book as I read one entry and need or want to look up something from the entry, or just see an interesting page.
A lot of very useful charts, such as abbreviations, blood test descriptions, and more.

Customer Reviews:
Sill haven't received.......2007-03-22
I think I'll love it, if I ever get it. It's the 2007 edition, but first quarter of that is almost gone. Don't know if this is a manufacturer/publisher issue or an Amazon issue, but I'm eagerly awaiting!
Is Not Compatible With MS Office 2007 or Vista.......2007-03-16
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Stedman's spell checker's. The description indicates that the 2007 Spellchecker is compatible with MS Office 2007, but this is not the case. I've called Stedmans' and apparently it was 'supposed' to work , but they haven't quite figured out why it's not working with MS Office 2007 or Vista. Just wanted to give you a heads up, before purchasing, maybe call Stedman's to verity if they've worked out the problem.

Customer Reviews:
Must-have for transcriptionists.......2004-05-15
As stated by the other reviewer, yes, this is a list of words. That's why its title says "Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Words." If it were to include definitions, it would be a dictionary, not just a word book.
As such, it excels. I rate it less than 5 stars only because there are several other Stedman's books that I use on an almost daily basis while this one doesn't come in handy quite as often; however, for such necessary items as microorganisms and lab abbrevations this is indispensible.
Not a dictionary.......2003-08-20
This book is a list of words in alphabetical order. It is not a dictionary. Lists acronyms, etc., for medical transcriptionists.
Book Description
The Fifth Edition of Stedman's Radiology Words has over 110,000 words and terms (over 2,400 more terms than the previous edition), including accurate and current terminology related to procedures, techniques, drugs, and tests, as well as abbreviations, jargon, and variants. Coverage includes key terms related to CT, MRI, PET and SPECT imaging, mammography, ultrasonography, x-ray, neuroradiology, and radiographics. This edition contains new appendices on common breast imaging terms and common radiographic imaging techniques and fully updated appendices including anatomical illustrations; contrast media, imaging agents, and related substances; common radiation oncology terms; sample reports and dictation; and common terms by procedure.
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Resource.......2006-11-10
I love this reference book! It is organized so I can easily find what I need. It also has all the newest MRI sequences, etc. I would be lost on the Internet trying to find answers to my spelling questions if I didn't have this time-saving resource at my fingertips. This is a MUST for anyone working with a radiology department.
Misread the title........2002-01-26
This is not due to Seller, I just don't like the book. I am not a transcriptionist.
Highly recommended!.......2000-09-09
Stedman's "Radiology Words" is a stellar imaging word reference for the radiology transcriptionist. Being a full-time radiology transcriptionist and having used Stedman's second edition for many years with extremely favorable results, I can only state emphatically that this current edition has greatly improved by bringing the vastly burgeoning radiological terminology up to date. Imaging modalities have exponentially increased since the last Stedman's Radiology word reference [1995], and with it, the imaging vernacular has exploded. This third edition has accomplished its mission.
Many more diagnostic and interventional terms are at hand, as well as mammographic, CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, ultrasonographic and neuroradiological terms. All, of course, are thoroughly cross-referenced.
Additionally, five handy appendices are added: 1) 19 pages of anatomical illustrations, the first 5 pages of which demonstrate anatomical planes/positions, 2) 4½ pages of various contrast media, 3) common radiological oncologic terms, 4) sample radiology reports [14, mind you] ranging from the simplest to nuclear medicine/MRI/CT, etc., and 5) common terms of procedures.
This nearly 1000-page imaging tome is the tops! I would strongly recommend this reference to anyone involved in imaging transcription.
Customer Reviews:
Incredibly Comprehensive.......2007-05-17
As an amateur Interpreter, currently studying in the field, my professor asked us to obtain this dictionary and it is incredibly precise, easy to use and seems to have virtually anything you can think of - or come across.
Also has an explanation of medical prefixes and suffixes in English AND Spanish - with a little more effort, a layperson can get a firm idea of how medical terminology functions by studying this section.
An important addition for anyone who desires a comprehensive dictionary of medical terms.
No illustrations, but excellent.......2006-08-29
No illustrations, but excellent. Mosby's bilingual is comparable but hard to find used. Both recommended by top interpreters/translators.
Stedman's Medical Dictionary, English to Spanish and Spanish to English: Diccionario de Ciencias Medicas Stedman Bilingue, Espan.......2005-10-05
This is a "must have" book for professional medical interpreters and translators. It includes an extensive and very specialized vocabulary of alternative medicine as well as conventional medicine. The best book I've found yet.

This has turned into one of my main books that I use when transcribing. It is great to have would recommend everyone in the medical profession to have one.
excellent resource.......2007-07-23
this has to be one of the best purchases I have made. I use this multiple times a day. I do chart auditing and quality assurance at a large clinic and this book is irreplacable. I use it all the time. It is easy to use, small, and very easy to read. I reccomened it to any one in the medical field that ever questions what the abbreviations are that their Dr's use.
