Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Well, not exactly ALL players........2007-10-04

The title says that this is Hold'Em Wisdom for All PLayers. However, in the first few 'chapters', it's explained that the advice he is giving is for novice or beginning players.

And that's exactly what it is. If you already have a basic understanding of pot odds, draws, starting hands, etc then you can forego this book. It is all pretty fundamental.

However, I would say that if you are a complete beginner then this book would probably be a good starting place. That said, I'd still say Harrington on Hold'Em 1 is a better place to start.

4 out of 5 stars Well written and entertaining advice .......2007-10-03

This book is similar in format to 52 Tips For No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em Poker In that each chapter is mostly independent of the others.

The sections with advice on Hold'em hand situations are geared toward players that already know the basics of hold'em. However, anyone that's read a few books on the game will find some of the advice repetitious.

The book was entertaining and educational for me. I didn't buy the book originally because of the reviews. Then, a friend of mine loaned me a copy and I couldn't put it down until I'd finished it. I've read a lot of Poker books lately, and I'd put this one close to the top for fun to read value. Harrington on Hold 'em Expert Strategy for No Limit Tournaments, Vol. 1: Strategic Play is undoubtedly better for someone that's looking for an almost encyclopedic description of one system for playing Hold'em. Daniel's book is obviously not intended for that purpose, but rather contains tidbits of mostly common-sense advice that can be inserted into anyone's game, as well as situational advice on specific hands.

He also talks a little about tilting, dealing with bad beats, rookie mistakes, offers an explanation of small-ball vs long-ball Hold'em strategies, and a lot more. There are 50 chapters, and each one covers a topic like these. Had the publisher shown the chapter headings on the Amazon site, I would have bought the book immediately in-spite of the somewhat negative reviews for it here. Particularly when compared with ecstatic reviews on clearly inferior Poker books I've also found here.

It was a fun book to read, and I can't see how anyone could be disappointed with the content. It's a mass market book for all Hold'em players, as the title clearly states.

Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

3 out of 5 stars Great for beginners.......2007-07-22

The text is rather easy to read and lays out basic princpals well with great examples. This is book may have traces of anecdotal analogies but remains a sound early reference book. It is by no means, a book for intermediate or advanced players.
Great as a gift for a new player, nothing more.

4 out of 5 stars Great easy read...........2007-07-16

I like this book alot... I still don't know everything i want to know about Texas Holdem, but i have a lot of useful tips and information. I bought this book because i am a Negreanu fan and I like his style of playing. He writes as if you are talking to him and it is a very easy read.. I finished it in a few hours. If you like the author and are interested in learning more about his style than you will enjoy this book. IF you know nothing about Texas HOldem and looking for a how to book, you may need to look elsewhere.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2007-06-28

I know book writing is all about making money. There is a "tell" in this book that they were just hurrying it so they could make a buck. Typos all over the place. The editors were obviously sleeping (or busy counting the money).
Also, there is no substance to this book. It won't teach you anything.

I love these cards but some do not fit my way of thinking. So just pick and choose the ones you like. There are enough to excuse the ones that are not so good. I love putting these cards around my house, or I read them before going to bed to give myself positive thoughts for sleeping. The quality of the cards is excellent--sturdy cards with a glossy finish. The artwork is whimsy. Have fun with these cards.

5 out of 5 stars Inspirational and fun.......2005-01-29

These cards are attractive. The messages are fine though hardly profound. A card deck I much prefer is the Relax Deck. The images are symbolic and the messages on the backs are deeper and more thought provoking. The Perfect Calm deck is another one I prefer over this.

I ordered these cards after I read Louise Hay's "You can heal your life" book. The cards are gorgeous, so full of color they just make you happy looking at them... the affimations written on them recharge you in so many ways. These cards would make a great gift for anyone...especially yourself :)

Book Description

The Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom cards were created by Christiane Northrup, M.D., to help women reach clarity, fulfillment, and success in each of five major life areas: Fertility and Creativity, Partnership, Self-Expression, Self-Care and Nurturance, and the development of an Enlightened Mind and Heart. The deck comes with an instruction booklet that offers a variety of practical ways to access intuitive, grounded information on a number of issues.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Contains Some Great Wisdom.......2005-07-28

"The Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom cards will help you read your current energy field and show how your thoughts and beliefs are affecting your ability to create, express yourself effectively, heal, use your mind and hear simultaneously, and achieve successful relationships with others." - The author

According to obstetrician/gynecologist Dr. Christiane Northrup, the universal law of attraction operates all the time, working seamlessly through every part of our lives. We "vibrate" a certain frequency according to our thoughts, emotions and beliefs-whether conscious or not. Some of these beliefs are inherited from previous generation, and these vibrational patterns create "matches" which are mirrored in our circumstances. So if an individual is creating a scenario they don't like, Dr. Northrup asserts that this circumstance was "created" by an unhealthy thought pattern.

By becoming conscious of these patterns, we can change what is no longer working well and reinforce what is. Engaging inner wisdom coupled with openness to Guidance is the key to improving habits of thought, emotion, and behavior.

Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom Healing Cards is a 50 card deck that was designed to be used as an oracle. If the deck is approached with the expectation of receiving Guidance, says Northrup, then "you'll always pick the cards that contain precisely the message you most need to further your personal growth at the moment."

The deck is divided into five "suits" which reflect five key life areas:

* Fertility and Creativity
* Partnership
* Nurturance/Self Care
* Self-Expression
* Enlightened Heart & Mind

These "suits" are show in pastels: sage green, pale yellow, lavender, mauve, and cornflower blue. The deck itself features shiny gilt edging, just like Doreen Virtue's Magical Unicorns Oracle Cards and Kat Black's Golden Tarot.

Within each of the five "suits" are ten developmental steps that require mastery in order to progress in life or improve health. These ten steps are reflected in ten cards that remain the same for all five "suits". These ten developmental steps are noted on the bottom of the cards, accompanied by roman numerals:

I Imagine/Allow
II Prepare
III Flexibility Within Structure
IV Hierarchy vs. Partnership
V Perfection vs. Imperfection
VI Risk vs. Safety
VII Active vs. Passive
VIII Channel Clearly
IX Regroup
X Complete and Move On

So let's say you draw the number VI Risk vs. Safety card from the Enlightened Heart and Mind suit. The advice is:

"New ideas and ways of doing things are often threatening to the status quo. Have the courage to advance your ideas despite the resistance of others. Do so with an open heart and compassion for the point of view of others.

Risk keeping an open mind and heart, despite the opinion of others.

Image Note: This image shows riders departing the safety of their village and negotiating a narrow path at the edge of a cliff. Likewise, you must sometimes take similar risks to chart new territory for yourself and others."

The images on the front of each card are impressionistic in nature and derived from the work of a master artist. According to Northrup, the images were chosen for the archetypal quality and classical style, not for the historical meaning or intentions of the painter. The card backing is lovely, depicting layers of wings in blue/green hues.

The 72-page companion booklet also features eleven different spreads (card layouts) which is quite surprising. Most Tarot guidebooks don't even give you that many spreads! And they are comprehensive ones, delving into life purpose, family dynamics, chakra health, abundance, and more.

There's a lot of good information in the Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom Healing Cards, but I'm not sure how good it is an actual oracle-as opposed to a healing/meditation deck. I tried doing the 4-card Conditional Health Reading and it wasn't accurate at all. The "issues" and "advice" didn't resonate at all. For example, Card 4 advised "Become a life long learner. Expose yourself to new ideas. Take classes regularly. Resolve to remain teachable throughout your life."

As an avid reader with a love of learning, this advice was totally irrelevant to me-as was the other three cards. If anything, I could use a break from all the exposure I get from reading, listening to audio courses, practicing/learning divinatory arts such as Tarot, etc.!

It would have been nice to have had modern illustrations on these cards, as is found on most Hay House decks, rather than paintings from "masters". Despite Northrup's assertions, I don't feel the pictures themselves conjure up much intuitive information. Most of the cards feature naked women and seems more like a tour through an art gallery rather than a health and healing oracle. Still, the information contained in the booklet offers sage advice, and the spreads could be used with any oracle or Tarot deck-not just this one.

It really depends on what you're looking for, but for me, the Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom Healing Cards didn't "speak"" to me and I didn't find the card images all that attractive, either.

5 out of 5 stars Cards to Stimulate Your Own Intuitive Knowing.......2004-02-25

"Thoughts collide in the activity of expression, and the dance goes on with meanings that are beyond rational perception." ~Dancing in the Mirror by Bryan Walton

First, I must say that these cards are quite beautiful and the edges are smooth and golden. Each card shows art that was chosen purely for its archetypal quality and classical style. The interpretation of the images are meant to encourage your own intuitive wisdom.

The 50-card deck and small booklet are all you need to get started. The cards are divided into five key life areas: Fertility & Creativity, Partnership, Nurturance/Self-Care, Self-Expression, Enlightened Heart & Mind. These areas are clearly marked at the top of each card and the cards are color coded into pastel green, pink, yellow, blue and violet.

Each life area is divided into developmental steps which are represented on the ten different cards.

To use the cards you look at the image and then refer to the booklet for additional information as needed.

Of course I was a little freaked out when the first card I picked was the "Risk vs. Safety" card which might have something to do with all the messages floating my way in books and here we find someone jumping out into the unknown. I set out the "How to use your creativity optimally" reading. The first card is supposed to tell me what I've learned about myself so far. I picked Fertility & Creativity VI Risk vs. Safety. Then, the second card is about what you are learning now and I found Nurturance/Self-Care V. Perfection vs. Imperfection. Then Card three is about your next step and that said: "Channel clearly." Then, onward to card 4 where it speaks of how I can create value for myself and others: "Prepare." The last card is supposed to show my Highest purpose and it says: "Complete and Move On."

Then, you can look in the booklet to see the deeper meanings of the images on the cards. All the artwork is rather beautiful and the cards are in themselves works of art. I was very pleased to find the "Art Credits" because otherwise I would have been eternally wondering who painted each picture, etc.

From the cards I picked out I started to understand more about birthing new projects and seeing if creations will fly on their own. Am I being told that I am supposed to jump out into the unknown in some way? The third card was quite meaningful in that it explored the possibility of creating something of value for others that uplifts and assists them in their daily life. The fourth card seems to be saying I should make more time for exercise. The last card shows a woman sitting and reading beautiful books and is a painting by Bernardino Pinturicchio.

The entire process of being inspired by the cards is a highly personal one and all the cards really seem to do is bring elements to the surface of your mind. I found that it was very easy to figure out what the cards were saying because the booklet was helpful and the pictures made complete sense. Basically you are using the cards as mirrors to reflect unconscious patterns to your conscious mind. I was very impressed with the first results of using this card set, although they were a bit too accurate. ;)

You also get an education in art while you are being playful and intuitive.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Noble/interesting intent, frustrating execution..........2007-09-08

While I agree with much of what other reviewers have presented here. I'm disappointed that, once again, as they did with the Wolf Song deck, publisher U.S. Games Systems, Inc. has severely undermined a wonderful idea and thwarted the noble efforts of creator/author Leita Rishesson. While the cards themselves and the design and the thought and insight put into them are quite delightful and meaningful, the absence of adequate documentation, and the glaring omission of an index or table of contents, pretty much leaves you flailing around until you get more familiar with the deck, a process that is proving quite frustrating and time consuming as I flip through pages trying to find information.

My only question about the cards themselves is Leita's declaration that Coyote is a feminine energy. In no tradition have I found the Trickster archetype in general, nor the Coyote archetype specifically, as being feminine, as much as I'd love to see that. It's particularly confusing when I note that Raven is depicted as masculine. If you were to look at the respective Trickster archetype in, for example, Haida (Raven) and Lakota (Coyote) mythology, you'd find more feminine attributes in Raven than you'd find in Coyote. While this potentially casts a shadow over the credibility of this deck for me, I'm anxious to explore it more and see what comes up for me.

5 out of 5 stars Walking the Shaman Path.......2006-01-17

I use these cards to guide me on my daily path of learning healing and my relationship with Father Sky, Mother Earth, my brothers and sisters.

They are a great asset and I highly recommend them to anyone following the scared path of healing or working with any other form of Native American spiritual work.

5 out of 5 stars Shaman's Deck.......2005-09-26

Since i received this deck , I've worked with it daily. I've grown a close affinity for it and reading the outcomes. I'm very pleased and have already recommended it to many of my friends.
Thanks.

4 out of 5 stars Lattices.......2001-02-19

This is a wonderfully understated deck of cards. The colours are earthy, reflecting the basis of shamanic understanding that is presented here: the interlocking world of plant, animal, tree, season, stone and sky, grounded in native American wisdom. The cards are quietly subtle; they invite us to get a sense of the structure of our lives, the moments and points of ntersection. They remind us life is a journey where every step has its choice of direction and consequences.We can beocme mindful of those steps, knowing, too, the wisdom of the other worlds is always present. This is a powerful deck, quietly illustrated, linking us to the latticed loop of life.

5 out of 5 stars Rune Cards with Book.......2007-01-10

I found the Rune Cards and the Book that accompanied them
in the box very helpful and informative. The book that explains
the meaning of the Cards was very significant.

3 out of 5 stars For Ecelectic Pagans.......2005-07-11

If you are a searcher and need counsel, this book by Ralph Blum is for you. The beautiful cards and verses offer insight and wisdom. Ralph Blum connects the Runes with other traditions to form a whole for Christians and Ecelectic Pagans. For example, he has the Medicine Wheel Spread to connect with your mental, spiritual, physical, emotional selves on different levels.

However,if you are looking for an indepth study of the Runes and the Norse Gods, this book is not for you. Ralph Blum has his own version of the Elder Futhark. He also divorces the culture surrounding the Runes from the Runes themselves.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Artwork.......2004-11-30

The way the Elder Futhark (runes) are incorporated into such beautiful scenarios is reason enough to buy this deck. The book is also very useful, and avoids repeating the Book of Runes that came with a clay set.

A card deck of runes is also a lot easier to travel with; whenver I went through airports with my other rune sets, I was always afraid someone would damage my stones.

Regardless of whether you are a beginner or an expert, anyone who loves runes would love this deck.

5 out of 5 stars Super!.......2002-02-15

I have always liked using the rune stones for guidance; so my husband bought me these as a gift.What artwork! They are easy to use and pretty to look at. What more could you want? These are a must have for readers and collectors.

4 out of 5 stars great cards!.......1999-10-21

I have found that the cards are much more to my liking than the stones. for some reason I can identify a bit more with cards. great set for people more comfy with cards. I highly recomend it.

Book Description

Healing is more than confronting the challenge of an illness. The wise approach is to realize that it is a lifestyle requiring constant support, and attention to the well-being of our mind, body, and spirit.

However, illness often forces a person to begin the journey of personal empowerment, as does loss, loneliness, and other life crises. It’s very difficult to know where and how to begin that journey, which is why I created these Wisdom for Healing Cards. They are intended for repeated use, as the task of keeping healthy on a physical, spiritual, and emotional level is lifelong.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Remind yourself.......2006-03-02

In the day to day rush to be and do everything, oftentimes our thoughts are scattered and don't readily come into focus.

These cards, used singly or in multiples, help us focus our thoughts toward the healing empowerment we all possess.

Reminders to "release unproductive habits", "bring humor to everything", "use your wisdom" and "recognize the quality of information you feed your mind each day" - these are all golden nuggets contained within these cards. Just simple but powerful reminders to help us focus and become wiser - and more healthy !!

5 out of 5 stars Journey Towards Empowerment and Well-Being.......2005-07-12

"Healing is more than confronting the challenge of an illness. The wise approach is to realize that it's a lifestyle requiring constant attention to the well-being of your mind, body and spirit. Of all the many factors that healing and living a healthy life require, becoming an empowered individual is the most important. That's also the most difficult." - Caroline Myss

According to medical intuitive and spiritual teacher Caroline Myss, personal empowerment first begins with the choices we make. Even small choices can have strong energetic reverberations that echo through both our bodies and our lives. In fact, she asserts that even one positive action can create an entirely new life.

Crises such as illness, loss, and heartbreak often force us to begin the journey of personal empowerment. In the throes of such difficulty, knowing where and how to begin this quest can be a daunting task.

With the Wisdom for Healing Cards, Myss provides 50 different lessons to help individuals ascertain personal energy levels and movement. In addition, her wisdom encourages body awareness, emotional self-examination, and spiritual connection to God.

Myss' approach is a proactive one, with each card focusing on a specific lesson and goal. For example, in the card titled "Notice That Special Person", the lesson says:

"On this day, take notice of someone whom you've previously ignored. That person is your teacher, your special angel, and he or she will do or say something you've been waiting for, just because you're recognizing the beauty of his or her spirit. Your goal: to see that everyone is capable of helping you heal, and vice versa."

The Wisdom for Healing Cards features the gorgeous, vibrant art of Janice Fried, the same artist who illustrated the Archetypes Cards and the other Healing Cards deck by Myss. Each glossy card has a colorful image on one side, and a lesson/goal on the other. Some of the themes include:

* Release the Need to Complain
* Observe Your Attitude
* Be Mindful of Conflict
* Recognize Your First Thought
* Eat Healthful
* Relinquish Control
* See the Synchronicity

I was feeling unwell last night, and decided to draw a card to see if the Wisdom for Healing Cards would "speak" to me. I ended up drawing "Enhance Your Physical Health" which admonished:

"Think about how you view yourself as a physical being. Do you perceive yourself as weak or strong? Do you tend to make excuses for why you're not proactive in your healing when you see what can and should be done? Your goal: to initiate one positive action in your life to enhance your physical health."

In my case, I knew *immediately* that card referred to drinking more water-something I've received Guidance to do, but have neglected.

Intended for repeated use, this beautiful deck will help you uncover the layers of buried emotion, tap into intuitive Guidance, and make the necessary changes for empowerment and overall well-being.

Book Description

Birds are so common in everyday life that most people take them for granted, viewing them as nothing more than colorful diversions. Bird Signs shows a different and deeper side of our avian friends. The book presents birds as gateways to self-knowledge. According to author G. G. Carbone, birds are symbols that can help us reflect on events, make nurturing decisions, and focus on spiritual growth. Particular birds exemplify characteristics that seekers can find, or search for, in themselves — examples include the flamingo’s balance and the chickadee’s playfulness. Divided into sections of Bird Traits, Bird Wisdom, Broken Wing, Bird Vision, and Bird Lore, the book contains a wealth of cultural and historical facts, along with guided meditations that incorporate chakras, yoga poses, and visualization. The colorful divination deck contains 52 cards that can be used individually or as daily or weekly card spreads.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Representation of our Feathered Friends!.......2007-07-24

I highly recommend this book and card set. G.G. Carbone did an excellent job of describing each one of these different birds. The representation of them was phenomenal. I am very metaphysical, and I feel these were fabulous. I also thought they gave good insight about each bird species from a Wild standpoint too( Out in Nature). I was very pleased with this Set of cards. I have worked with animals very closely all of my life, and I share my life with a Macaw parrot.( Her Card hit right on with the Parrot.) She described what each bird pretty much has shown me in my lifetime. I am so happy that I have these in my collection. Thanks G.G. I will cherish this Deck forever.

The artwork is also Esquisite. Well worth the purchase for the artwork also. I especially love the Peacock. Great CARDS!

I give these cards a great recommendation. I Love them!

5 out of 5 stars It's an excellent pick for any new age collection or card reader........2007-06-10

BIRD SIGNS: GUIDANCE & WISDOM FROM OUR FEATHERED FRIENDS offers a 52-card deck and book written by G.G. Carbone and illustrated by Mary Ruzicka to explore birds and their connections to divinity. These divination cards can be used individually or in spreads - and each profiles a specific bird or aspect of bird life, with an accompanying book providing a focus on bird relations to human characteristics. It's an excellent pick for any new age collection or card reader.

4 out of 5 stars Lovely Oracle Dedicated to Birds.......2007-03-28

"Birds appear in our lives for a reason. Sometimes these winged creatures are here for a brief time and sometimes for an extended stay. We may not always know why a bird appears to us at a particular moment, but with this book and card deck, you will become more aware of the guidance and wisdom that our feathered friends convey to us every day." - From the Bird Signs companion book

As one who has received many oracular insights from feathered friends over the years, I was thrilled to see a new deck dedicated solely to birds. From cardinal to penguin, lark to owl, Bird Signs covers 52 different birds (and thus has 52 cards). Attractively packaged in a colorful, sturdy box that seals with a magnetic flap, the Bird Signs kit also includes a lovely 133-page glossy companion book featuring full-color illustrations.

When I received Bird Signs, published by New World Library, I was truly impressed with the quality of the packaging/storage box, the guidebook, and the cards themselves. In my mind, no one rivals baba studio/Magic Realist Press (Victorian Flower Oracle, Fairytale Tarot, The Tarot of Prague Kit, etc.) when it comes to deck and book sets. However, I have to say that Bird Signs rivals the quality of those kits!

With her favorite mediums being pen and ink with colored pencils, illustrator Mary Ruzicka infuses each bird with gentle lines, flowing curves, and realistic hues. From the peaceful dove to the beautiful swan, the happy bluebird to the adventurous roadrunner, Ms. Ruzicka delightfully captures the unique character of each bird--inviting humans to study them, learn from them, and contemplate their messages.

Written by G.G. Carbone, the Bird Signs companion book explains the framework of the deck, which constitutes 45 bird cards and 7 feathered friends cards. Bedecked with rainbow-colored ribbons and relevant motifs, the special feathered friend cards represent a specific intention, chakra, chakra color, and physical area of the body. They can be used alone for inspiration or with the rest of the deck for additional illumination. For example, the yellow Egg - Birth card addresses new births of all kinds and the Solar Plexus Chakra. The blue Song - Voice card deals with communication and the Throat Chakra.

Upright meanings for all cards are provided, as well as reversed meanings. Ms. Carbone gives a brief bio of each bird, as well as Bird Wisdom (interpretation), Broken Wing (reversed meaning), Bird Vision (how you can "see" from a bird's particular perspective) , and a piece of bird lore (not necessarily about the bird). Keywords, healing colors, and a message is also provided.

Printed on a smooth matte finish, the Bird Signs cards measure approximately 5 ¼ x 3 ½ inches. Flexible and easy to shuffle, the card backings depict a simple, yet attractive, double feather motif with greens, blues, and purples that are fully reversible.

Some of the birds and their wisdom found in Bird Signs include:

* Waxwing - Curiosity
* Hummingbird - Energy
* Robin - Joy
* Flamingo - Balance
* Woodpecker - Hope
* Jay - Communication
* Duck - Decision
* Hawk - Observation
* Roadrunner - Adventure
* Gull - Laughter
* Raven - Illusion
* Parrot - Creativity
* Oriole - Compassion
* Stork - Reliability
* Pheasant - Opportunity
* Heron - Patience
* Eagle - Freedom
* Penguin - Purpose
* Chickadee - Playfulness

Despite the utter gorgeousness of the box, cards, and companion book, I admit that I'm a bit disappointed in this oracle. I did a few one-card readings the last few days, and each time, the message was totally off base. For example, I drew the Rooster yesterday, which is about 180 from how I am, where I am, and what I know to be at this time in my life. For example, if I'm in sync with this card, I'm an early riser, need courage to face the day, and have difficulty getting out of bed.

Nothing could be further from the truth! I'm a night owl (it's wired in my DNA), get out of bed easily, and joyfully look forward to each day that is filled with promise and abundant blessings. (No, not being a Pollyanna here--it's really how I am!) I did another one-card reading, with equally irrelevant results. However, I DID do a 3-card Past/Present/Future spread (called the Wingspan Spread in the Bird Signs companion book), and drew three of the special feathered friends cards. This reading was highly accurate. Go figure!

As I read through the Bird Signs book, I felt that some of the interpretations were too simplistic and, well, *practical* (e.g. "Go on a picnic" and "try saltwater fishing"). Perhaps I'm just used to, or prefer, more psychologically oriented interpretations. Granted, Ms. Carbone provides quite a bit of information--but it seems a bit superficial at times. Maybe I was expecting interpretations and facts along the lines of Ted Andrews' Animal Speak. (If you're used to that book, you may be a bit disappointed with this deck if you're expecting more depth.)

However, I think Bird Signs could certainly be used in accordance with a book like Animal Speak, which provides depth and breadth to animal divination. Also, the bird cards would be great meditation tools for those with avian affinity, as well as a starting point for looking up birds who fly into your life.

5 out of 5 stars Love these cards!.......2007-01-05

I've been looking for a deck of tarot cards that I could really work with, these cards are wonderful. I would recommend them to anyone who is learning or a novice at tarot reading as well as experienced readers.

5 out of 5 stars These Cards will Inspire You.......2006-11-04

Hawaiian wisdom has the power to heal and mana is something that everyone has. It connects people with the ability to heal physically, emotionally, spiritually. These cards will not heal you, but they will inspire you, as you will see, the author was inspired when she created these cards. After handling these cards for several months, or however long it takes, they will become "yours." If you handle someone else's deck, you may find yourself choosing cards that pertain to issues surrounding that person, or your relationship with that person.

There is nothing threatening in these cards, there is no "death" card, or any cards marked, "the unknown." These cards give evidence of our intimate connection with the world and the freedom that is involved. For example, the Hawaiian word for waves is "nalu." The card for nalu gives the reader perspective through the analogy of experiencing a wave on an emotional/spiritual level. Sometimes we duck under the wave where the current is calm or sometimes we ride it out. The richness of the Hawaiian wisdom presented in these cards is derived from Hawaiian language, chants, beauty, and culture.

If you want a deeper understanding of the power and beauty of Hawaii, these cards will put you in touch with your mana.

5 out of 5 stars Fortune Telling Hawaiian Style !.......2000-07-29

The author of this captivating deck is an assistant professor of communications at the University of Hawai`i in Hilo who specializes in intercultural communication. Becker has spent many years connecting "with the natural and spiritual worlds of Hawai`i" according to the biography in the almost 200 page book that acompanies this deck of 44cards. It shows. The artwork on the cards defies description - it's wonderful and accurately portrays Hawaiian cultural concepts and values while maintaining a definite aura of mystery and intrigue.

The book is a virtual primer on the Hawaiian culture. Each card's description consists of three sections: a brief relevant chant, a thorough explanation of the cultural concepts that are pictured on the card in a teaching section and an interpretation section that explains the card's meaning in a layout. Becker also provides the reader with 8 different spreads to use for different purposes. Becker's book has several other important features. There are extensive endnotes that provide excellent resources for further exploration of the Hawaiian culture, and an addendum that describes all of the symbols on each card, including their Hawaiian names.

My only criticism of this deck for fortune-telling purposes is that some of the cards' interpretations are complex and difficult to connect to the image on the card. Again, this can interfere (initially) with intuitive use. But whether you actually use the deck for fortune telling or not, it's a "must have," and studying all of the information here will teach you a lot about Hawai`i. I did give them a try, and my first reading produced some pretty incredible results (chicken skin kine). This deck will take a lot of study for a non-Hawaiian to use effectively, but I think the effort will pay off.

Pacific Voyager Cards - Journey to Kanaka Makua - Rediscovering the Light of Island Wisdom, by Greg Scott, Self Published, Kea`au.

This deck is very different from the previous two. The cards are made of inexpensive patterned beige cardstock instead of slick, coated paper. And the printing is in monochrome brown ink. And the deck doesn't come with a book (which is a work is in progress, Greg tells me), but only with a large folded sheet (which wraps around the cards and protects them) with only two layouts and a brief explanation for each card. These aren't shortcomings; it's a great deck for fortune telling!

There is a simplicity and authenticity about this deck that is appealing. Each of the 48 cards encompasses a basic Hawaiian concept that is illustrated with a single Hawaiian word, a simple phrase in both English and Hawaiian and a simple graphic. One of its special attractions is that once you have read the information sheet on the cards, the interpretation of a reading is pretty intuitive and can be done without having to look up definitions. This is a real asset for using this deck for its intended purpose of guiding you towards becoming a Kanaka Makua, a "complete human being." This is a great deck to use to get started and for quick readings (but don't confuse "quick" with "simple")

5 out of 5 stars Not a Tarot Deck - and doesn't pretend to be one.......2007-09-25

If you open this pretty package hoping for a tarot deck, you will be disappoitned. It is NOT a Tarot deck, and in fact, the title of it does not claim that it is -however, it is sold as a tarot deck in some stores and I think this is why some purchasers are unhappy with it.I read the box - the Faery Wisdom deck, and the seller at the store I was in explained that they are a wisdom deck, more of a deck for daily meditation and thought than for "tarot readings". With that as my expectation, I was delighted with what I found when i opened the box.

Nancy Brown has written some beautiful, insightful, and thought provoking descriptions and meditations, each with a chant, and a little note from the fairies and illustrated by Amy Browns marvelous fairy art.
The book is a real, hardback book not a tiny little thing tucked into the card box, and following the instructions there I cleared the cards and attuned them to me. the first card I pulled was "Home" - and it made me feel that the cards were happy to be part of my home and my practice. In the past week I've shuffled and drawn a daily card for meditation, and found them are right on track with what is going on in my head.

I also got the hubby involved. he is a much tougher sell than I am, more literal in mind, more grounded (my beloved little stick in the mud). he has found them as wise, profound, and delightful as I. If he has one complaint, and I must echo it, it is that the card stock they are printed on is very light and flimsy. He is concerned that, particularily with daily use, they will soon begin to show wear and tear. I agree, but only partially. You see, with the mild arthritis in my hands, I find this lighter card stock much easier to handle and shuffle than many of the tarot decks.

If you are really worried about harming the cards, you could always shuffle them the way I do some of my tarot decks, by spreading them in a pile on the floor and "stirring" with your hands - then using your left hand "feel" which card(s) you should chose.

In conclusion - I love the cards and enjoy them. I think anyone who is really into the fey would enjoy them, if not for the wisdom, then purely for the illustrations. and it goes without saying that anyone who is a fan of Amy Brown's art is going to love them.

You know, just as a sort of P.S., I once bought a tarot deck with dragon illustrations. It was a nice deck to look at, with many wonderful dragon paintings, but it seemed to me that it had no feel at all for the tarot, for the wisdom of the tarot, or for the meanings of the cards - they were just pretty dragons that did follow a theme of color or type for each suit but really had no "real" connection to the tarot. I was so disappointed, that in the end, I just gave them away without ever doing a reading with them. That deck really was, to me, all about the art.

It is important to remember with any wisdom, meditation, or divination tool that it is going to have to resonate with you personally. Some will, some won't. I think it has more to do with the individuality within all of us, than the deck itself. BlessedbeSummer

Book Description

"All Journeys Are Sacred" Journey with Louise StrongBear into shamanic realms of healing. Meet her teachers as she wanders through middle earth, the lower world, and the upper world, following the path of her heart. Begin in the East, and circle the Medicine Wheel to the North, finding yourself along the way. This is a heroine's journey, correlating with the journey of the fool in the major arcana of the tarot. It is also a story of finding lost soul parts, and finding your way back to your home in the stars. It is about magic, miracles, power animals, angels, witchcraft, shamanism, and shapeshifting. This is Louise's story, the one she knows by heart. And it is your story, too-the one that you forgot. "Remember You Are Magic"

I know there are answers in your dreams if you just look and pay attention. Thank you Louise for guiding me through. This is a book everyone should read. Buy two and give one to a friend.

5 out of 5 stars Spellbound.......2007-03-13

Unlike most reviewers, I COULD put Journey by Night down - as when you
are spellbound by a beautiful dream - and you don't want it to end....

My journey through this book took me to a completely new place. I read
and reread lines, passages, poems and chapters. As with anything practiced, it got easier...
to capture a glimpse of what can be possible
on ones own personal journey.

I evolved from an onlooker in that solitary night, to a seeker.

This book and its wisdom will be my bedside companion.

Let us hope there will be many more to come.

5 out of 5 stars I would give this 10 stars if I could!!!!.......2007-03-06

You would have thought Ms. StrongBear wrote books for years. Journey by Night was very inspirational. This is one to remember...come and be a Wayfarer, as Wolf states: "Wayfarer is one who travels by foot, one step at a time. This is a way of learning. Human steps." If you feel lost and alone in the world, travel with StrongBear and meet her animated characters. Once you meet "Jimmy the Leprechaun" and feel his comedic charm, (as he tickles you and himself) but his passionate soul will let you know how similar we are with other living creatures. If you are not satisfied with his cleverness, stroll down the page and take a whimsical retreat into Pegasus world. His world is not filled with long-term suffering and illness; the aura is pleasant--letting you know that the grass is greener on the other side. After reading this book it will answer your question and have you asking questions...you would want to learn more about magic!

I would like to thank you Louise StrongBear for opening up my thinking to a whole new world. I am inspired and I believe you are a healer with the ability to capture your reader. Capturing your reader to make them believe they were there with you while in fear, afraid; but yet, having the courage to find out who you are. Hesitant but eager to connect to helpful strangers; with the question--"Haven't we met before?" Questioning should you give up, but kept your feet planted on the ground as you trotted to your destiny.

Thank you once more for bringing your iridescence as you journey by night. The stars and moon are shining bright for you. Thanks for creating an uplifting story.
