tracked the item and the best I can figure is it was never put into the mail.
I can not get to someone at Amazon in order to get help to resolve problem.

No doubt about it, you'll learn Italian from these 8 CD, unfortunately the vocabulary is so limited that it will not help you in Italy. You may learn how to say I drink, but not know how to ask for water, or a glass of water. You'll learn how to say I'd like to eat, but not know what bread is in Italian.

If you have an IQ of less than 75 and want to learn Italian, this lesson could be perfect for you. Another alternative title: Learn 10 italian Phrases in 8 Hours. If I want to repeat the phrases 500 times each I would normaly replay the lesson, but this book saves you the trouble of pressing the track replay button by simply repeating the same very simple phrases over and over and over and over and over and over. I am not exagerating. A complete waste of money. In the first hour you will learn the following phrases:
Hello, how are you miss?
I am fine.
I am american. I am italian.
I understand a little italian.
I don't understand Italian.
Do you understand English?
and maybe one or two more... first graders learn at a faster pace than this!

I took one year of Italian in both high school and college. In the anticipation of a trip to Italy, I picked this up and started listening and working on refamiliarization of this beautiful language. I ended up skipping the first two CD's because I knew the content. The last two disks were challenging and made me realize there is so much depth in the Italian language.

pimsleur Italian.......2005-08-16
I've tried computer programs and other audio programs. I was led to this product by reviews of other products saying they were good, but not as good as Pimsleur. They were right. This is the best. Each disk builds on the previous one. It gives constant review. The only negative is that it wasn't backed up with written material, but I understand that the larger programs correct this. I intend to continue the courses using Pimsleur. As the other reviews said, expensive, but worth it.
disappointing.......2005-08-02
After reading so many good reviews of this product, I was very disappointed. There is no accompanying booklet, so one cannot actually see the words spoken, in case he did not get it right. The disks are repetitive. The first one concentrated on several words and repeated them for the whole twenty five minutes. In each consecutive disk, only few new words are added. After going through the whole set, I may find it useful to listen only to the last disk, since it contains all the words introduced in this course. After listening to 8 disks of 25 min., I have learned very little, and payed very much. I have a Berlitz course of 3 hours which is much more fun to listen to - it deals with daily life - and contains a booklet with explanations, so this course was a big disappointment.If you are an intelligent student, save you money for better products.
Decent but Italian Spoken Too Quickly.......2005-04-03
Pimsleur has a nice method here. Much better than Berlitz. I just can't get through how quickly the Italian is presented on the CDs. Because of this major drawback, I prefer
Behind the Wheel Italian which has slower pronunciation by the Italian speaker and is much easier to learn from. Learn in Your Car is also good, but again, too fast for me.
Still, Italian Instant Conversation is decent if you supplement with a good Italian course like Behind the Wheel.
Audio and Visual learners. .......2005-02-22
I think the course is great for audio learners. I realized about halfway through the course when I was becoming frustrated with the speed of the conversations, it is because as an artist, I'm a very visual learner. After I do some visual homework, this course will be more useful to me. Ask yourself before buying it, am I an audio or visual learner.

I went to Italy on a study abroad program and I am a firm believer in learning some of the language before visiting. Therefore I purchased this CD program to listen to in my car. It was extremely helpful in some areas, others not so much. I felt this program was more towards those who plan on having long, pronouned contact with others. It tells you how to ask people if they want to go eat something with you and where. I was hoping for more of airport language, what to say in a resturant or hotel. Still, this helped greatly because even though I was not going to ask someone "do you want to eat dinner at my place", I picked up on some of the words.
The best part of this CD is it helped me a TON with my dialect and my accent. The things I did know how to say, I said well and many times people thought I spoke fluent Italian (until I got a blank look on my face as they spoke to me).
I highly reccomend this CD to anyone but also, I would buy a Italian dictionary as well! It is wonderful hearing the language but seeing the words are very important too!!

Useful and entertaining!!!.......2003-01-07
I really liked this book, because in my opinion it fulfilled its function: to improve my Italian. It is quite short (91 pages) but it is completely adecuate, compensating its lack of lenght with the respectable amount of vocabulary it contains.
I also loved the fact that it includes a lot of different situations in which you could find yourself, were you to travel to Italy (for example reserving a hotel room, making conversation and finding public transport). One drawback, however, is that the dialogues are only in Italian (as opposed to all the vocabulary and the explanations, that are translated into English). That wasn't a very big problem to me, because my mother tongue is Spanish (which is very similar to Italian), but it could make things more difficult to you if your native language is English and you are just starting to learn Italian.
The cassettes were a plus, and that mades a big difference between this book and "Conversational Italian in seven days" (yes, the title of that book is extremely similar to the title of this one, the only difference is that the title of that edition is "seven" instead of "7": be careful not to buy the other by mistake!!!).
All in all, I'd buy this book again, and that is the highest praise I can make.
A mish/mash mess!!.......2002-04-15
These are absolutely the worse tapes I have ever used. Nothing, absolutely nothing is useful in these lessons! They also talk about changing British Pounds. Of course, they now must be updated to teach you how to convert Euros not Lire.
I have studied Italian tapes for years and this is the first time I have ever encountered " Molto Lieto" for "How do you do?" I have been going to Italy for 30 years and I have, ever heard that expression.
Save your money! dont' buy this mish mash mess!!!

If you already know some basic Italian, perhaps this would be a helpful refresher. For a beginner, it's difficult to coordinate the tape with the text, they don't track one another directly. One would suspect that their respective preparers didn't talk much once they got started on this project. I regret buying this material.
Don't Buy This Book.......2002-03-17
This book isn't worth the price you pay. It comes with a cassette tape, and I was hoping the tape would teach me the language. In fact, you have to learn every word in the book before you can work with the tape. Also, the book lists no translation for the conversations...it's all in Italian. Don't waste your time or your money on this one.
Very easy to use........2001-06-21
I did not know any Italian before I bought this set for my vacation to Italy. I think that it was a great, easy to use combination. It's easy to understand, yet challenges you to really learn Italian. The audio cassettes were helpful in understanding the pronunciation and phrases that the book gives. Although, I wouldn't say I was a pro at the language, this set really helped me to understand the basics. (I think I just needed to study more :-D) If you need to learn some quick Italian, this is a great buy.

This book is for a person who needs to know how to communicate in Italy in a short period of time. I found this paperback easy to carry and easy to understand. It contains everything you need to: introduce yourself, others and being polite. What you need to order in a resturant and how to get there. Important things you need to ask people when your in Italy. The difference between words when speaking to woman and men. The alphabet. The thing I liked the best is there are many phrases to get you through your vacation with ease and feel like your not a tourist. I recommend this book above others like Berlitz and Barons because it has everything you need and it's easy.

I enjoy using this book because it is easy to understand and I am able to make up sentences and phrases of my own that I will use.The pronunciation of the words is clearly understandable... I have ordered a another copy for my sister...
Good phoenetics, but otherwise extremely antiquated.......2001-12-02
These Cortina books have probably the best phoenetic spellings of any text I have come across--far more accurate than Berlitz and others. If you do not have access to language cassettes to help you with pronunciation, this Cortina series is the next best thing.
Unfortunately, the grammar and vocabulary are EXTREMELY outdated--particulary for the Italian course. Not only are the vocabulary and some of the spellings antiquated, but the verb forms are all presented in old literary Italian. NOBODY SPEAKS THIS WAY. Not only will your speech be outdated and clumsy, but you will not understand what Italians are saying to you, because so many of the words are no longer used at all.
I have checked my opinions with native Italians--as well as professional translators--and all have told me that the Cortina books' vocabulary is old-fashioned even for the 1950's and 60's (which is when all of these editions were originally published. Check the copyright date.) Unfortunately, the other Cortina courses seem to be equally outdated (see Spanish in 20 Lessons customer review by P. Santiago, September 27, 2001).
They are useful as review, because a veteran student will be able to recognise the outdated material, but I do not recommend these for the absolute beginner. For the novice, supplementary books are essential.
I fear that the people writing rave reviews about these books have not yet actually field tested what they have learned. I felt the same, until I actually came into contact with the modern spoken word. These reviewers may find that they are not as well-prepared as they think.

I am making the transition from Spanish to Italian and this book has been an indispensible resource. It includes conversational Italian, vocabulary, grammar, verb conjugations, etc. I haven't found a more complete tool yet!

great way to really learn to speak.......2004-05-06
Conversational Italian in 7 Days is part of a great series. I used this book and the tapes to learn a bit of Italian before visiting Northern Italy. With the help of the book, I was able to converse on all the important topics: getting a hotel, buying train tickets, ordering food and drinks, and buying things. When limited to these areas, I had all the needed vocab to understand the person I was talking to. I ended up having whole conversations in Italian!
One person complimented me on my beautiful Italian accent and asked where I had studied Italian. I showed him my little book! The tapes really help with pronunciation and with memorization. I liked having the book to explain the concepts from the tapes, but I primarily learned from the tapes. Once in Italy, I used the book as a refresher course. For example, if I were to ask for a train schedule, I would look up that section in my book.
If you are going to Italy, buy this book! Italians will be charmed when you can speak their language. You will have access to much more with the language in command. No longer will you be relegated to the tourist restaurants. The book also gives cultural tips, which I found very useful.

If you want to get the tapes that accompany this book, then do a search on: "Conversational Italian in 7 Days". (If you write "7" instead of spelling out "seven" another version of this book comes up. This version includes the language tapes for just a few more dollars.
Believe me, you really need the tapes. And you'll really enjoy them. Italian is a beautifully-sounding lanugage to pronounce. And the tapes make it easy and fun.

Necessary for survival in Italy anywhere outside of Rome.......1999-08-09
I recently returned from Italy after reading this book and listing to the two language tapes that accompany it. The book and tapes cover everyday subjects which arise during your trip to Italy. How to buy things in stores. How to ask directions. How to order from a menu. How to make reservations. How to talk about yourself and carry on a basic conversation. It also gives travel advice on how to use the public telephone, buy parking tokens and other juicy tidbits that will make your vacation a lot easier. (Italy is not a very efficent country, and everyday situations can become a lot more complicated than you could ever have imagined!)
When we were in Rome I found that about 95% of all Italians spoke fluent English. Most of them did not even tolerate my attempts at speaking Italian. But when we traveled to Tuscany, Florence, and the outlying Veneitian islands this book became very useful.
I highly recommend it as a succinct surivial guide if you're planning to go to Italy. I also thought that the tapes were excellent and the lessons well planned and pertinent. I carried this book with me during my trip for reference.
It will definitely help you learn some basic surivial Italian quickly and easily.

Useful structure for a wide range of students.......1997-08-11
Living Language Italian 2 is an ideal tool for students with a basic knowledge of Italian. While structured around the verb forms, it employs a very useful selection of words and phrases in the examples which illustrate the verbs. It also uses just enough English to enable the tapes to be used without the book ( for example in the car) so that the user gets to hear the maximum amount of Italian - which after all is what language tapes should be about. The English sentences are given before the Italian so that the tape can really be used by someone with a very basic knowledge of Italian. While there is a small reference grammar section in the book there is no other explanation of grammar other than verb tenses so it is not suitable for the complete beginner. The book also includes an extensive list of 168 verbs and their tenses fully declined. (Saving the reader from the expense of buying one of the specialty books on verbs.) Both my wife, with very basic Italian, and I, with an ability to read novels but poor comprehension and fluency, found it improved our Italian
