Incredibly useful resource.......2007-04-21
Truthfully you could make your own flash cards but the great thing about this course is that the hard work has already been done for you and the author has already selected the most useful words for you to learn. After having learnt words from this course I had my learning reinforced through everyday Arabic conversations and news broadcasts because this course teaches you words in common use. The words from this course really stick in your head and conveniently every flash card has example sentences and other words from the same root.
It's true there are mistakes with the Arabic and English eg. a dot missing here and there, or a missing shadda but you won't have any trouble finding the error because the other source for the word on the card is correct. My only gripe is that one side of the card is appropriately all in Arabic however the reverse size is in Arabic, transliteration and English translation. So it's not possible to test yourself from English-Arabic and the transliteration catches your eye on the reverse side and you don't use the Arabic script as much as you should. Aside from this gripe flash cards are the best way to learn vocabulary fast and this is best flash card course for Arabic I've found.
I intend to buy Volume 2 soon and I hope a 2nd revision is released soon for the first volume with only English on one side, only Arabic on the other side, no transliterations and the necessary spelling corrections.
Great Concept - Poor Quality.......2007-03-20
I have at least ten products that I have purchased over the last five years to help me learn Arabic. The flashcard idea is a good one, but this set is filled with an unbelieveable amount of errors both in Arabic and in English. I stopped counting after 30 errors! Seriously, I don't know that much Arabic to even find close to the number of errors there must be in this product. I called the publisher (Tuttle) twice and emailed twice to request that I be compensated for this poor quality product. The lady on the phone seemed to take in all the information about each and every error that I found (thus far) and took my address and phone number, etc. Still, I have not heard from them.
At last! Smart Arabic flashcards.......2006-08-16
The best part of this flashcard set is that many derivatives and examples are given for each word. 448 main cards include 1792 additional derivatives--this is how Arabic works, if you learn a single root, your knowledge of grammar rules helps you multiply that root into lots and lots of related words. Bottom line, a bigger vocabulary with less memorization. I'd recommend these flash cards to anyone.

Great practice!.......2007-04-27
My 3 year old son LOVES these! He practices writting his letters 3x's a week and really has fun with them. He even likes to use the eraser.
Just don't leave them alone with the pen. LOL

Ok ,but don't hold up very well........2007-03-15
I got this thinking they'd be sturdier, but unfortunately they are not. My toddler has had a fun time with them, but they do show the wear and tear from constant handling. Perhaps better suited to older kids.
Okay flash cards.......2007-02-13
They are okay flash cards. I have seen better. they will do, but will probablly end up buying more...
Product is fine.......2006-12-21
The other comments address the product accurately. My intent is to raise the pricing issue.
I paid $4.98 for these cards. I thought that was reasonable. Howeverm when I received the cards the price printed on the back of the package says US$2.99/$4.99CAN.
I feel like Amazon should have only charged $2.99. I took another look at the listing and I see they are sneaky and listed it as: $2.99 + $1.99 sourcing fee.
I will start watching out for this secret sourcing fee in the future on other products.
My daughter loves them.......2006-03-16
My daughter is 23 months old and I was looking for something to expand my repertoire of words with her. She loves these cards, in addition to using them to learn the objects (she isn't quite ready to learn letters yet)she loves to stack them, organize them and sort them. Every morning she wants me to open them up and she finds some new way to use them. For the money, they are certainly worth it. They keep her occupied independently for awhile and I feel good knowing she is using them so often and she is learning something new from them every day.
Simple, Bold, Memorable.......2002-11-28
This is a set of 52 cards: half are capital letters and the other half are small letters. The pictures are of ordinary household objects, and they are simple and boldly drawn.
My daughter, age 2, is already learning to recognize the shapes of some of these letters. We had intended to use these just with the pictures and object names initially, but she is fascinated by the letters on the back, and already recognizes some of the more distinctively-shaped letters: z, c, and a.
I highly recommend this set of cards for parents who would like to help their toddlers with vocabulary development, or parents who would like to help their preschoolers recognize shapes. Nothing fancy, but sometimes the simplest, most easy to use things, are very valuable.

First rate learning tool!.......2007-10-05
My mother gave these to our 14 month old for Christmas this past year, and she loves them. Per the instructions on the box, we started with the 5 large double-sided touch and learn cards and slowly progressed to the remaining smaller cards. This continues to be one of my daughters favorite activities. She loves to take these out of the box and tell me what the pictures are all about! We will be purchasing the remaining Hands-On Learning card sets for her birthday and Christmas this year.
Great for Tactile Learners.......2007-02-14
The Scholastic Hands on Learning series is great for tactile learners. My toddler was evaluated as either on target or ahead on everything except verbal - he did not want to talk. His hearing was fine and there's no history of ear infections so hearing interference was ruled out as a factor. So, he began regular visits with a state intervention program to help him develop communication skills and everything we tried did not work. My mom bought him two boxes of flash cards from this series for Christmas. At first, he showed little interest. However, I kept trying. And it wasn't long before he started showing interest in the cards - particularly the ones he recognized as objects he encountered on a regular basis (ball, wagon, cat, dog, boy, orange, girl, etc.)
The cards are made so that the pictures are inlaid with various textures that go along with the product being pictured. My son is a tactile learner - so when he could pick up the card, feel of it, and hear us repeat to him what the picture represented, he soon began naming the picture card himself. Once that started, he has now moved on to real, 3 dimensional around-the-house products - either pointing them out or bringing them to me or other family members to inquire what they are - and only after a couple of times of naming the object, he will add the word to his vocabulary.
I highly recommend this product as well as the other products in this series (as you can imagine, we have all of them now). They helped us open up a whole new world for my toddler.
Not recommended for younger babies.......2006-11-18
Since I was so happy about the Hands-on Learning ABC cards, I purchased the entire line of cards (except for opposites!) I was very excited about this set, as my 13 month old son is beginning to say basic first words. However, I do not recommend this set of cards for younger children, like my son. The description is misleading. There are only 5 large touch and feel cards of a dog, cat, girl, boy, mat, cup, car, mitt, frog and hat. Then, there are several small cards (that are NOT touch and feel cards) of other first words. The small cards are also bendable, so they are not made for smaller children! The object of this set of cards is to put the large cards together with the smaller cards to create sentences. Thus, if you are the parent of a young baby and whose goal is to just introduce first words, this is not the set to purchase. Maybe the DK Publishing touch and feel first words card set is better. I just purchased that set, so I'm crossing my fingers! However, if you have an older child, maybe the recommended age of these cards are correct (2-5 years old). I must interject, nonetheless, that all the other hands-on learning sets have the same age recommendation, and my son enjoys them all. The ABCs and Baby Animals are his favorites, though! (The colors & shapes and counting are a bit more advanced, but he still enjoys them).

Super Book.......2006-07-17
This is a wonderful book! My son use it each day, taking ten words at a time and work with them; finding definitions and making sentences. It is a fabulous way to help my son improve his vocabulary.

pretty good.......2003-05-23
Personally, I found this book very helpful. Learning vocabulary is easier due to this book's interactive format. It really did help on the verbal section of the SAT. I did not find any major flaws or false promises in it. To do well on the verbal section of SAT, however, you should read day and night, since practice is indispensable.

Affordable preschool teaching.......2007-06-12
These flash cards have worked well with our preschooler. The pictures keep him interested and give him a hint when he needs one. The cards are also pretty sturdy. This has been a good product to supplement and reinforce what our child has been learning in preschool.

Bad teaching aide, nicewall decorations.......2006-09-17
These were a gift for my son his aunt. I am a big fan of flash cards for teaching young children their alphabet and for word association.
This is probably the worst set of alphabet flash cards ever written. Many words used for a letter are to advanced for young children, many words chosen do not use the strong sound of the word, they use blended letters like 'sh' and 'tr' in words for the letter, and more.
I do give them credit that the material composition is very nice.
But, for flash cards to assist in teaching your children, they are AWFUL!.
