Not bad.......2007-08-23
Its a pretty old book, published in 1980, but its contents are still relevant in today's context. I also purchased Michelle Dresbold's "Sex, Lies & Handwriting" and borrowed from my local library "Handwriting Analysis: How to make it work for you" by Andrea McNichol.
On comparison of the three, Miss Dresbold's book is more like an introduction that really gets your interest in the subject, but her outstanding analysis of Jack the Ripper really got me interested in the subject (one that the other 2 books do not provide)! Miss Dresbold also highlights more lucidly the characteristics of certain dangerous traits that exists in the handwriting of people, which might provide clues to a dangerous person.
Miss McNichol's book is more like a step by step process of guiding the reader into handwriting analysis; like a school syllabus, which makes for great reading for a first timer, and in fact one would be quite adept at Handwriting Analysis once finished.
This book, by Miss Amend and Miss Ruiz... I would describe it as similar to a manual, with the greatest detail and least "introduction paragraphs" and contains the most amount of sample signatures by famous people. However, it does not highlight to the reader what stuff to look out for in people; the book draws equality to all handwriting characteristics with little embellishments.
On a personal note, with so much SMS and email going on today, handwriting is probably quite underestimated and overlooked as a tool. Also, I'm not sure if handwriting analysis can apply to cultures that also has other written forms of language, which might 'interrupt' any rules of handwriting analysis as depicted in all three books. These cultures include the Chinese (Chinese Characters focuses on strokes), Indian (particularly rounded handwriting), Thai... etc.
Still, all three books are definitely one to keep!
ADD TO YOUR SKILLS.......2007-02-02
Add one more skill to your life skills inventory to be more successful in your journey.
No body can hide his/her real emotion since now, if he/she write you something !!
Invest in this book is my opinion. the rest is up to you.
"Basic" Book that will teach you more than the basics of handwriting analysis .......2007-01-28
I have read several books on this topic. This is probably one of the most complete on this topic and certainly the best when it comes to analyzing and interpreting the handwriting of the people you deal with everyday, from bosses to children, employees, spouses, parents, lovers and friends.
Some of the other books that I read on this topic covered a lot of theory.
But this one actually shows how to analyze handwriting in clear precise terms.
I really enjoyed the handwriting analysis covering famouns people. The material on determining whether someone was emotionally disturbed or suffering from other emotional issues was also very interesting. This is also one of the only books that I have read that did a thorough job explaining the meaning of writing rhytm. If you are as interested in this topic as I am, then you may also enjoy Palm Reading: A Little Guide to Life's Secrets.
An excellent book.......2006-12-30
This is the best book that I have seen about this subject. I have inherited about 500 old family letters and I thought I might get some more insight into the writer's personalities if I studied their handwriting. This book was a big help. The author explained how the handwriting was influenced by the character of the person and the results I got was generally consistent with the information I had gleaned from the content of the letters and family history. There were a few surprises though and I gained some important insight into a couple of the family members that I wouldn't have otherwise. I highly recommend this book as it was better than the other books I consulted.
The original.......2006-12-25
The original work on the topic of graphoanalysis. A classic study with many example illustrations and great explanatory text. A must have for an interest in handwriting analysis.
Book Description
Have you ever looked at someone and thought:
He looks honest.
She seems friendly.
He doesn't look like a serial killer.
Are you always right?
Looks can be deceiving, but handwriting never lies. Handwriting profiling is an amazingly accurate tool for assessing how people think, feel, and act. In fact, handwriting profiling is so accurate that the FBI, the CIA, and the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad use it to build detailed psychological profiles of some of the world's most dangerous individuals. And thousands of major corporations use handwriting profiling to help them make the right hiring decisions.
Handwriting expert Michelle Dresbold -- the only civilian to be invited to the United States Secret Service's Advanced Document Examination training program -- draws on her extensive experience helping law enforcement agencies around the country on cases involving kidnapping, arson, forgery, murder, embezzlement, and stalking to take us inside the mysterious world of crossed t's and dotted i's.
In Sex, Lies, and Handwriting, Dresbold explains how a single sentence can provide insight into a person's background, psychology, and behavior. Throughout the book, Dresbold explores the handwriting of sly politicians, convicted criminals, notorious killers, suspected cheats, and ordinary people who've written to Dresbold's "The Handwriting Doctor" column for help. She shows you how to identify the signs of a dirty rotten scoundrel and a lying, cheating, backstabbing lover. And she introduces you to some of the most dangerous traits in handwriting, including weapon-shaped letters, "shark's teeth," "club strokes," and "felon's claws." (When you see these traits in someone's script, she says, "it's time to stop reading and start running!")
Dresbold also explains how criminals are tracked through handwritten clues and what spouses, friends, or employees might be hiding in their script.
Finally, Dresbold re-examines the handwriting evidence in several notorious unsolved cases. She uncovers fascinating clues that reveal the secret side of Lizzie Borden, acquitted of the ax murder of her parents in 1893's "trial of the century." Dresbold also reveals astonishing details about the author of the JonBenÉt Ramsey ransom note, and she presents startling new evidence that exposes the real Jack the Ripper (contrary to popular theories, he wasn't a prince or a painter after all).
Sex, Lies, and Handwriting will have you paying a bit more attention to your -- and everyone else's -- penmanship.

Reads like a "who done it!".......2007-09-05
Enjoyed reading this book as if reading a novel. The information is presented in a clear, fascinating manner. Really couldn't put it down. I'll never look at someone's signature the same.
Soooo revealing! I want more and would love to hear this author speak!.......2007-09-02
Michelle Dresbold wrote a compelling book filled with fascinating stories, but ... what I found even more important, was the way I learned about myself and what my own handwriting revealed. For example ... when I am not fully crossing my "t"... She states that you are not good at following through on things. Wow!!! That has always been one of my frustrations!!! Now that I have been making a conscious effort ... I feel good about the progress I have made. It really does change your life when you change your handwriting. I highly recommend this book. I took my book to work. A guy in our office is really weird and we finally figured out this "nut case". From teenagers to senior citizen's ...You've got to buy this book!!!!

Intriguing, funny, insightful, useful.......2007-07-29
I've been interested in handwriting analysis since I was in my teen years, but I've found so many of the books on the topic to read like dry, boring textbooks. Not so with Michelle Dresbold's book. From the first page, Dresbold grabs the readers and entertains while instructing. I read the entire book in one day because I was so enthralled with her examples, her writing, and her information.
I particularly liked the structure of the book, how she moved from some general information into more specific examples of analysis. And I felt like after finishing the book, I had a good enough grasp to begin a very rough analysis of the handwriting of those around me (hopefully we won't see any felon's hooks or pugilistic p's).
Sex, Lies and Handwriting.......2007-06-08
This book was an easy read, yet very interesting. The author does not explain how to analyze handwriting, at least not in depth. For me, the most fascinating part of the book was the author's analysis of two criminal cases: Jack The Ripper and Jon Bennett Ramsey. I was convinced that she solved who Jack the Ripper was, and confirmed my suspicions that Jon Bennett Ramsey's mother, Patty, had something to do with the child's murder. The author also discusses other notorious people such as Ted Bundy, Son of Sam and Charles Manson, to name a few. A good book to read as you sit at the beach or poolside.

Your handwriting reveals..........2007-09-07
...everything! "Handwriting Analysis: Putting it to work for you" is a well-organized guidebook into the facinating world of graphology. As a practicing handwriting analyst, I have used this book as a reference many times - with particular attention to such detailed handwriting traits as a "felon's claw". Handwriting reveals many characteristics to the trained eye - this book will educate and amaze readers, especially when they put it into practice.
wow so awesome.......2007-07-15
Carrying the knowledge that i got from this book is like carrying a swiss army knife with you everywhere you go. i looked back at cards and "good luck in college" signatures in my yearbook and found very interesting things, that i know are true since i knew the people. the handwritings really do match the personalities. i analyze every piece of handwriting i now see! my coworkers, ads on the train, my friends, doctors, etc. this book is my bible. it teaches you who is a liar, has weird sex prefence, whose psychotic, who is secretive, who's an extrovert, who's suicidal, who wants to be well known, who has poor self esteem, etc. !! GET THIS BOOK!!! includes tons of famous signature and writing samples inside
Quick, fun, informative book.......2007-06-08
This book offers a quick look at how to analyze handwriting. The quizzes help to engage the reader in the analysis of the handwriting instead of using prose to simply explain the concepts. I found myself analyzing handwriting for fun within a few days.

Book Description
When we purposefully change our handwriting, we introduce attitudes that can improve our relationships, give us the impetus to achieve and take risks, and simply bring out the best in us. This is because our handwriting is a reflection of our innermost thoughts and feelings. When we fall in love, survive a serious illness, or change careers, our view of life is dramatically altered and, as a result, our handwriting patterns change. Conversely, desired transformations can result from intentionally changing the way specific letters are written:
* Stick to that diet by changing the letter T.
* Avoid being overlooked for that well-deserved promotion by changing the letter G.
* Reduce stress and cease juggling too many things at once by changing the letter S.
* Overcome shyness or stage fright by changing the letter A.
Included is an enlightening assessment test that identifies those personality traits requiring attention. Your Handwriting Can Change Your Life profoundly reveals that the key to making dreams come true is as simple as putting pen to paper.

Curious.......2007-07-07
Interesting book. I can't say I gave it the time recommended, which was 40 minutes or more a day patiently practising the letters and the aspects of your writing you wish to improve. Its thesis seems hyperbolic and the actual writing style I didn't like. Instead, I now practice cursive italic, a style designed for fast, legible handwriting. It seems both more functional and aesthetically attractive to me than the Vimala style. Whats more, cursive italic was the chosen hand of the Italian middle ages; if Leonardo Da Vinci managed to struggle along without the benefits of the Vimala method of handwriting self-development then so can you and I.
My final impression? - I think there is something to the notion that diligent practice of a well thought out hand will have cognitive and character benefits. Vimala Rodgers is to be admired for her work and insights. What I'd really like to see is a similar method developed using cursive italic as a basis, and dare I say, with a bit more of a 'male' feel, to both its appearance and the associated character traits. I suspect that the Vimala method could be further developed/adapted according to one's own preferences once a good feel for it had been gained. For now, however, it's overall style fails to appeal.
Improves your handwriting if your willing to work at it........2007-04-11
I have been one of those people who hated the sight of their own handwriting. I always chose to type my assignments through college, even some math homework, when I was going to be turning it in for a grade. I finally realized that I wanted to change my writing and Vimala gave me a great book to assist with my desired change. The book is very informative and directs you in how letters should be written. At the sametime she allows you to choose exactly what changes you make. The book's name says it all, I no longer look at my handwriting like I want it to go away, now I want it to stay!
Making you mark in the world.......2007-01-09
I first heard about this book from a woman in a class I was taking. I asked her, "Do you believe it can work?" and she said, "It has for me!" I started working with it in November and felt this joy come over me - it was fun! By changing the marks I made in the world, I could feel the change within. I bought a couple of copies as Xmas gifts. One friend said he had always hated his handwriting and spent hours with this book - loving it. I've told several others about it and they also love it - including a healer, an engineer, and a musician. Just understanding our own patterns as they exist now (graphology) is fun (and made me want to change some things right away). The book is an easy read, very accessible, and you can start changing very quickly. I've worked with it for about 6 weeks now and have definitely seen changes in my attitudes, and my life.
Has Your Handwritting Deteriorated?.......2007-01-09
Do you feel a sense of loss because your handwriting has become illegible to others over the years? Do you have trouble even reading it yourself? Do you feel a sense of loss and longing for fluid, legible hand-written expression? Vimala Rodger's book will open the gate. She will clean up your penmanship and along the way reveal things that we never learned in school about the power, joy, and significance of handwriting. Give your computer keyboard a rest. Pick up Vimala's book, a pen, and go for it! It is pure magic.
Valuable guide on a little-known tool for personality assessment and change........2006-10-17
There are dozens of books available on handwriting analysis. This one differs in its clear and concise description of the specific personality traits corresponding to specific letters and then, most importantly, showing how to optimize one's behavior through specific handwriting changes. In other words, "build it (the desired behavior), and it will come."
From my years of amateur handwriting analsyis, I can vouch for the fact that a change in a person always correlates with handwriting change and I have seen several cases where conscious handwriting change brings about personality change. At the same time, we must acknowledge the power of an individual's intention to change, as indicated in their willingness to recognize traits (and handwriting) that they want to modify.

Well written, but monotonous........2007-06-20
The book was pretty eye opening and is a great reference work if you want to get started. The amount of information however is overwhelming and shows that this is a *field* of study for a reason!
As you get further and further though, you can start to guess what things mean (like letters leaning forward means hurried individual, etc.), as they seem to blend together in patterns. Who knows, maybe that is a memory device, but I failed to catch it.
If you're curious about the field, I'd recommend it to you. Just don't try to read it in one sitting. It's a better reference work than a late night read.
best one I have read on the subject.......2006-11-07
I really enjoy this book. I think it part the sense of humor and part that she covers everything you might want to know. I have even taken her recommendations on other books to add to my collection. It is easy to get them here at low cost. :)
Disorganized Book..........2006-03-30
As with most of the Idiot Guide books, this book sounded much better in theory than it was in practice. First of all, it only demonstrates the bare basics, and while it certainly examines those basics in depth, it is still a rather slim offering. The book is also terribly organized. It jumps around from individual letters to strokes then back to an individual letter and back and forth. It is neither user-friendly nor particularly enlightening. Furthermore there are not enough picture examples of the traits discussed. To make matters worse the few examples provided are BLURRY and appear to be PHOTOCOPIES taken from other PHOTOCOPIES. While it does a decent job introducing one to some of the basics of handwriting analysis, it falters when it comes to equipping the reader with the basic skills needed to do a proper analysis. My last concern were the little "tip boxes" and "anecdote boxes" on almost every page! They were so scattered and didn't always apply to the topic on that particular page. It saddens me to think of how many beginners have been turned away from this valuable hobby by the poor organization and planning in this book. Shop around on Amazon and you will find much higher quality books on handwriring analysis by trained experts in the field.
beware.......2006-02-17
the bottom line is that unless you REALLY know what your doing you can easily misinterpret things. not a good idea. its interesting, but dont take yourself to seriously afterwords.
More Than Just a Text Book.......2006-02-04
After reading just about all the most popular tracts on Graphology one has to say that this 456 page tome is the most complete in content and the most thorough in explanation and examples. Yet it is also an inviting page-turner filled with lively side boxes called Tales from the Quill, Fine Points, and Chicken Scratch! This a serious but light-hearted treatment of a complex but enjoyable subject.
Though Sheila Lowe is obviously an expert she doesn't tout herself as a know-it-all. Instead she uses frequent quotes from other experts in Handwriting Analysis and even recomends some of their books for additional study. She keeps her wit and sense of humor throughout, is not defensive, and is not trying to oversell the product as a miracle cure or a get-rich-quick scheme.
Ms. Lowe started as a 18 yr. old student and studied long and hard, including courses in Psychology and Abnormal Psychology. After becoming Certified, she specialized in Forensics and Consulting. She is ubiquetous on the Web...just Google her name and you will get over one hundred results!
The section on the History of Graphology is detailed and includes nearly all the major players in the field, from 1621 to the present. Sheila's coverage seems unbiased but there is a definate emphasis in the German or Gestalt Method (big picture and surroundings) rather than just the French Atomistic Method (identifying traits through specific letters and strokes) but the Graphoanalysis (business) movement is left out. This is not a big detriment because she is comprehensive in explaining all the important elements: size, presssure, rhythm, slant, strokes, space, zones, borders, style, speed, connections, etc., and their corresponding personality traits...both positive and negative.
There are informative sections on Self Analysis, Graphotherapy, Legal Aspects (privacy, testimony), How to Write a Personality Profile or Professional Analysis, Computer Programs, and Ethical Considerations. There are lots of examples of the handwriting and signatures of famous people (and infamous characters), an excellent Glossary, Index, Bibliography, and list of Schools and Organizations.
In summary, this is a hefty volume but would make an excellent choice for the beginner or a great textbook for a teacher or group leader. The author's accomplishment should go a long way toward making Handwriting Analysis as acceptable in America as it is in the rest of the world. By studying (not just reading) this book, and pracitcing your skills, you will learn a lot about the amazing science of Graphology...and also about your true inner self (not just the mask we present to the public).

Attractive cards for learning the basics.......2001-03-06
There is a Latin saying, "agere sequitur esse", "doing follows being". Handwriting is certainly an expression of our being with all its uniqueness. If you have seen a human figure drawn according to the functional areas of the brain, you'd be amazed at how big the hand is in proportion to the rest of the body. There are studies on the physiology of handwriting and the connections with the brain. Others proposed "brainwriting", changing your handwriting to change your personality. There are so many potential uses of handwriting analysis, not limited to entertainement. This set of 64 small, artistic, aqua-colored and handsomely produced cards, with a pad for recording according to 11 categories, gives an easy introduction to the basic essentials. Size represents personal presence, slant for emotional interactions, capitals for showmanship, pressure for intensity, baseline for disposition... They all make very good sense. I would gladly make this a gift for friends interested in personalities.

What were your dreams 5 years ago ?
"THE 5 YEAR JOURNAL" will enable you to journalize and plan the next 5 years with what you want, what you have felt, and where you have been. Year by year your entries add to the total summary of your feelings and events, until, on one page you can look back at the past years, up to 5 years - day by day - thought by thought - experience by experience.
We tend to be hard on ourselves, not always giving ourselves the credit due for what growth and change has occurred. Journalizing in this Journal and in the Workbook sections, over a 5 year period will memorialize what was happening. Then having 5 years to look back upon, at one glance, can give us a more accurate reflection of what did or did not happen in the past.
Recording a relative reflection creates an accurate record of memories that we can then use for assessment and personal growth. This Journal will be a reminder and support, of where we have been and where we want to go with our lives. Even if you already journal, "THE 5 YEAR JOURNAL" can be effective in addition to what you are currently doing. This Journal can be a quick and easy tool for highlights and learning from hindsight. 5 Year Journal.......2007-08-04
Although I just started the journal, it will take about a year when I can really start seeing the benefit of the format. I like the end of the quarter questions. Highly recommend. Will purchase one for my friend.
One of my favorite keepsakes.......2007-05-19
I have just begun my 4th year of my Five Year Journal. My journal is not the new, colorful, "for women" one - but is one of the original, dark forest green ones, with embossed gold leaf lettering and filled with many inspiring quotes, as I imagine the new one is filled with as well.
I just wanted to say that I have LOVED this journal so much - I have bought several over the years as gifts for others - particularly people who are goal oriented. This was Doreene's intention with the journal, was to be able to see, at a glance, how one has evolved over several years. It is such a treat to be filling out my journal, and to glance at the entries above it, to see how different my life has become, and how much has improved over the years. It's also fun just to note to my husband before bedtime, when I've discovered it is the one year anniversary of some unique event in our lives.
Myself, I like to write a lot - so I have a hard time keeping my words in the 3 lines....... I know I am supposed to be brief and succinct..... That's not really possible for me, I don't believe! But I've managed by filling in the margins when necessary. And, it has been good to keep me "in check". But - I do also keep a "long winded" journal, as well, which I fill out in the mornings. That helps with my expressions, but I almost never go back to read anything I've written in those.
In comparison, The Five Year Journal serves as a signpost, to the major events and feelings that have occurred in my life, and I know it will be an indispensable library of information in the future, as I will certainly continue to use these Five Year Journals for as long as I can foresee.
I'm enjoying this process...a good and worthy endeavor........2007-05-04
It's a good thing, this succinct reference point for each and every day, as well as a goal planning section, and a summation at the end of the year and each month...A good thing and worthy endeavor.
Clean and Easy to Use.......2006-12-23
Clean and Easy to Use. A handsome journal you can be proud to carry.

Sheila Lowe's Idiot Guide to Handwriting Analysis.......2007-02-16
Sheila Lowe's book is very well organized, well written, and is a wealth of information from years of experience. I have read the book and used it in my work and training. I would highly recommend it for anyone interested in the field.
Good for amusement... Not for the serious students..........2007-02-16
As with Ms. Lowe's first idiot guide, this book sounded much better in theory than it was in practice. While this edition has more samples, they are also of poor quality. This book does a decent job introducing one to some of the basics of handwriting analysis, though it falters when it comes to equipping the reader with the basic skills needed to do a proper analysis. Another unnecessary addition were the "tip boxes" and "anecdote boxes" on almost every page. They were so scattered and didn't always apply to the topic on that particular page. I got the distinct impression that this book was a "front" for pushing specific brands of software. If you're looking for some parlor tricks to amuse your friends than this is the book for you. If you are a serious student, shop around on Amazon and you will find high quality books on handwriring analysis by trained experts in the field.
