I'm a real beginner, and this is a great help in putting my little bit of knowledge in context. I have to cover the facing (English) page because my eyes tend to wander, but that's easy. I look up a lot of words. If I look up enough, maybe I'll know Spanish by the end of the book.

This book is inexpensive, has an intersting assortment of parables, proverbs and short-stories, and is graded to get progressively more difficult as you read it.

For what it's supposed to be, I think it's an excellent choice.

My only reservation is that it was originally published in 1964. In my experience studying Japanese, I know that language can go through many changes through the decades, so I'm just curious if the language is "current" or a bit "dated."

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it, though. At the price it's definitely worth it.

I will soon get it. I may change my rating after I actually use it. I just wanted to give some information. It looks like this book is part of the Great Spanish Literature set, along with Cuentos españoles and Spanish Poetry: A Dual-Language Anthology 16th-20th Centuries.

I love the little folk tales in this book! Its a fantastic book for Spanish review and practice. Very easy to check yourself and translate vocabulary because of the accurate English translations. There are comprehension questions in Spanish at the end, as well as English "story starters' to practice your English to Spanish translation.

I am studying Spanish and I use this book to judge how many more words that I have learned. I like the book.

Cute pics, not much language.......2007-07-26

My son likes looking at the cute pictures but there is no story, not many words and so it's use as a teaching aid or story book is limited. And you can do better learning single words with the Usborne "First 1000 words in French"... it also has cute pics to look at but it also has a lot more words...

I liked the format and information the little books provided. I was misled by the cover of the book as it appeared on-line. I thought the books were in color. They are black and white. Other than that I thought the books were great for learning spanish with my son and reading to him before bed.

Good Book.......2006-11-14

The book has bright illustrations and has the word in English then in Spanish. It has pronunciations for the Spanish. It has only the word for English then Spanish on each page. This book would be a good starter or word enforcer for a little kid.

Nice pictures, but doesn't hold their attention.......2005-11-03

My daughter was 2 when I bought this book, along with a few other bilingual French/English books, for her. This one wasn't a huge hit because it didn't have a "story". I should imagine most parents teaching their children a (non-native) second language would have a dictionary - well, you could do the job of this book with just some pictures and a basic French dictionary. Vocab is easy to learn from a dictionary, it's the grammar that you get from stories that really helps you grasp a foreign language. So for that reason, we're steering clear of the "word" books now and just reading the stories. My daughter is nearly 3 now, she doesn't speak much French at all, but she loves the stories I read in French, even though she doesn't understand them word-for-word.

Very simple word book introduces 11 weather related words in English and Spanish. Does what it sets out to do.
