this is all you need..........2007-10-11
I've recently passed step 2cs and this book is all that I studied...no need for kaplan's expensive review nor usmle world...Just practice the cases in the book with a partner (and read the mini-cases as well) and you are guaranteed to pass. good luck guys!
The only book a US student needs for this exam.......2007-10-04
Of all the First Aid books I've used (Step 1, Step 2 CK, Wards), this is the only one that I'd use as stand-alone prep for the exam. I finally coughed up $45 for this book after trying unsuccessfully to figure out the basics of the exam from the info provided by USMLE (i.e. structure, timing, scoring, topics). It was completely worth it. Every case I had on the real exam was very, very familiar, after studying for only 3 days. Most important, I knew what I needed to do to earn points. Don't waste time or money with anything else.
Very helpful for CS.......2007-09-26
This review book was very helpful in taking Step 2 CS. It contains more info than you need, but is organized in a manner where you can easily skip what you don't need. The "minicases" were tremendously helpful, if for no other reason than just brushing up on diagnoses I hadn't thought about in months... If you have time, you can look over the practice cases, but those are skippable if you're crunched for time. I started reviewing 1 week prior to the exam & I think I did just fine.
SUPER IMPORTANT ITEM.......2007-09-02
THIS IS A BASIC FOR PASSING STEP 2 CS, FOR DIAGNOSIS AND WORK UP, THE MINICASES ARE VERY HELPFULL, BUY IT WITH CONFIDENCE, IT IS A GREAT BOOK
Gotta have it, not to learn, but to alleviate anxiety........2007-08-27
The great thing about this book is that it demystifies the CS so you know EXACTLY what is coming at you. Not so much the actual cases, nobody can do that for you, but you'll know the format, time constraints, everything about the exam right down to the pesky little details. I didn't bother reading any of the cases, but the book was worth the purchase just so I knew about the test itself and could prepare myself mentally. I was kind of freaking out about this exam until I read this book, the day of the exam, I was totally relaxed and I wasn't surprised by anything.
I can't comment on the cases other than to say there is quite a few of them in here.
I would buy this book again knowing what is in it, and what was involved with the test.
This book will not guarantee a pass for you, nothing can. A fellow medical student that took the exam the same day as me at the same center failed, and he read it cover to cover.
Best thing to do with this book is read about the exam itself, ignore the rest, and do your best to relax the day of the exam (alprazolam or beta blockers never hurt either if you need them) and treat it like any other day at the clinic.
Good luck.

Very insufficient.......2007-06-12
Don't be fooled !
Although the title of this book is "OBGYN for the boards", I'd rather rename it "OBGYN for 1st year med students". The information is very insufficient for a 4th (USA) or 5th year (Canada) resident preparing for the boards.
Don't waste your money....keep it for your vacations !

Customer Reviews:
I'd buy it again.......2007-10-17
Preparing for the oral boards: this book has an easy to use format, appropriate for the boards, concise, not too much information, some of it is a bit outdated however. Each topic/disease covered has a section on clinical evaluation (s&s, ddx, workup), and rx/tx, and disposition recommendations. There are formulas and "pearls" as well for review (parkland formula, ped weight/bp, fluid maintenance, ct sizes, foley/ngt sizes). Plus there are 48 cases that you can go over with a partner, very helpful.
Great Cases.......2007-05-14
This book is very helpful for those studying the oral boards. By far, the most helpful section of the book are the numerous cases. My wife, who is not in medicine, with a little coaching from me, quickly learned the process of how to administer a case, and we covered nearly all of them. I felt very well prepared going into the test.
My greatest concern with the book is that it really needs to be updated. Several of the therapies, meds, proceedures etc. are out dated. An updated edition is needed.
That being said, doing cases over and over is more important for preparing for the boards than is understanding current medical treatment of patients.
Good practice cases.......2007-01-31
Offers good pearls. At the end offers sample cases that can be practiced with a partner.
lots of info.......2007-01-13
There is a lot of information packed into this book, and about twenty practice cases. The practice cases are helpful only if you have a study partner who is also preparing for the boards so you can do them with each other in a board type format. It's hard to do in a community hospital setting when you're not studying with other residency grads. The info is divided by subject in an outline form and it's straightforward and seems up to date. It's hard to just sit down and read it though. The procedure pearls are a little more detailed than you might be asked but the random pearls were somewhat more helpful. Generally, it's most helpful if you are able to study with others. Alas, even though I read and highlited and did the cases, it didn't help me much...
The book you need.......2006-11-09
Case reviews are great. Use this book with an Oral Review simulation course and you'll be on the road to pass your boards. Review section was the usual review stuff found in every similiar book.

I passed the NREMT the first try after doing this whole book........2007-01-26
I worked thru the whole book before I took the emt-basic exam and I passed it on my first try. It was the new computerized exam and i found it very difficult but I believe this book that an instructor recommeded made the critical difference.

Customer Reviews:
Very outdated.......2007-10-09
Though the format of the book is good, it suffers greatly from being extremely out of date, though the copyright is 2006 the information is at least 10 years behind and not appropriate for boards review. Additionally, questions are frequently repeated either verbatim, or re-phrased, diluting the value of the questions. Additionally, some questions which are similar provide contradictory answers. This is still a good format, but the editors need to commit to an overhaul, in current form this is not a useful book.
I feel duped!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-12-10
I would like to start by saying that the overall format of the book is great and could be useful but I would be ashamed to call myself an editor for this text and call it a "new" addition. The text is clearly out of date which is a shame because if someone would have had the energy to do it right this could have been a gem. I don't expect something published in 2005 to refer to cardiac troponins as a new test. There are abundant references to streptokinase which I guess is acceptable but most new grads finishing an er residency will have never heard of LDH1/LDH2 ratios and most certainly lovenox has become more commonly used in practice since this books last printing (the only form of heparin mentioned is IV). Give me a break! Don't re-publish old stuff and call it a new addition without updating it.
Pearls of Wisdom an Excellent Choice.......2006-02-25
The overall context of the book if very well done. For the purest and the fanatic, this book had every workable piece of knowledge as it pertains to emergency medicine.
