If you really want to know about the bay area and the geographical features and traffic etc. this is a must for you. GPS won't provide as detailed and accurate graphical information as this compact book.

Book Description
This Bayesian modeling book is intended for practitioners and applied statisticians looking for a self-contained entry to computational Bayesian statistics. Focusing on standard statistical models and backed up by discussed real datasets available from the book website, it provides an operational methodology for conducting Bayesian inference, rather than focusing on its theoretical justifications. Special attention is paid to the derivation of prior distributions in each case and specific reference solutions are given for each of the models. Similarly, computational details are worked out to lead the reader towards an effective programming of the methods given in the book. While R programs are provided on the book website and R hints are given in the computational sections of the book, The Bayesian Core requires no knowledge of the R language and it can be read and used with any other programming language.
The Bayesian Core can be used as a textbook at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as exemplified by courses given at Université Paris Dauphine (France), University of Canterbury (New Zealand), and University of British Columbia (Canada). It serves as a unique textbook for a service course for scientists aiming at analyzing data the Bayesian way as well as an introductory course on Bayesian statistics. The prerequisites for the book are a basic knowledge of probability theory and of statistics. Methodological and data-based exercises are included within the main text and students are expected to solve them as they read the book. Those exercises can obviously serve as assignments, as was done in the above courses. Datasets, R codes and course slides all are available on the book website.

Book Description
This book questions the conventional wisdom of the Mediterranean Muslim woman as a passive victim of the tyranny of religion, society, and male relatives. These original essays build on a range of experiences from varied regions and periods--from medieval love poetry to popular literary sources and fatwas and legal analyses--bear witness to the fact that individual women of all social classes play pivotal roles in both the private and public realms of Arab society.
Book Description
Rosai and Ackerman's Surgical Pathology Review is the ideal study guide to help you prepare for board certification or re-certification examinations in anatomic pathology. Based on the leading surgical pathology textbook, Rosai and Ackerman's Surgical Pathology, this must-have resource provides comprehensive coverage of all pathologic entities of the major organ systems as well as diagnostic techniques. Rather than presenting page after page of dense text, this reference makes studying a snap by featuring reader-friendly true/false questions. The answers are explained and cross-referenced to appropriate pages in Rosai for further reading. To test your knowledge and assist in your final preparation, the book features a comprehensive multiple-choice examination at its conclusion. From distilling important facts and concepts to providing practical study tools, this essential resource not only helps you study, it helps you study well.
Customer Reviews:
comprehensive review .......2006-12-18
A 500 page review of the 3000 page standard textbook in SurgPath - is that possible?
The basic structure of the review is based on the 31 chapters in Rosai's two-volume textbook. This includes the pastel-colored chapter coding and the sub structuring of each chapter (eg. neuromuscular system with CNS, peripheral nerves, skeletal muscle). In contrast to the other available multiple-choice reviews on Anatomic Pathology (~1800 questions: Lefkowitch 1st ed. 2006; ~600 questions: Sternberg's by DiPatre 1st ed. 2005), the format here is mainly based on true/false statements. This "new" design of ~4000 questions provides an interesting transition between the "standard" MC questions and the "rapid-fire question-answer facts" provided in the Pathology Board Review by Roberts (3rd ed. 2006; over 4000 question-answer combinations). The main difference to the aforementioned review is, that the pages containing the questions are separated from the answers. While this layout prevents "cheating", the format of the answers does not allow independent reading of only the answers (eg. some refer to the phrasing in the question). Therefore, the page in the main textbook is provided - which is really helpful.
Why not five stars?
Well, in those chapters with many subchapters [eg. Gastrointestinal tract (GIT) or Female reproductive system], the separation of question and answers does not allow quick and easy look-up. Example: a question #8 in the GIT sub-chapter "Small bowel" requires exact tracking in the answer section to this chapter, as there are answers #8 in the subchapter esophagus, stomach, small bowel, appendix, colon and anus. This is more of a layout problem but can be annoying as reading the answer of a different question distracts quite a bit. Small organ symbols/icons behind the answer could have solved this issue...
It still rocks!
The main strength of this review is the comprehensive recapitulation of the enormous two-volume set. When reviewing a chapter in Rosai, the outline is mainly anatomic and the style is unique and entertaining; which can be confusing (probably the reason why some like Sternberg better...). However, if you like "Rosai," and plan to read it from cover to cover, but are overwhelmed by the 10kg of surgical pathology, BUY this review. It provides you with some sort of attending guided marker. There are not many pictures, but the book highlights on average 2 facts per page in the "big" Rosai - and if reviewed together (on a large and stable desk), chapters fly by - almost (50 true/false statements ~2.5 hours).
Final remark
This is truly a SURGICAL pathology review book and does therefore not include separate chapters of the "other" topics integrated in the Anatomic Pathology part of the Boards (eg. Immuno, Molecular-, Cyto-, Forensic- or Infectious Disease Pathology). But that should be clear, as it is based on a Surgical Pathology Text.
The review by Damjanov and Nola provides an inexpensive and interesting "exoskeleton" to Rosai's; it is truly comprehensive and highlights 2 essentials per page. To answer my initial question - it is possible... Good job.

Developed by Taoist Master Mantak Chia as part of his Healing Tao System, it works on internal dysfunctions and energy blocks using the breathing exercises of chi-kung, therapeutic manipulations, and meditation. Customer Reviews:
Excellent information.......2005-09-03
I have found "Healing from within with Chi Nei Tsang: Applied Chi Kung in Internal Organs Treatment" to be stacked with relevent information for the practioner and more importantly the beginner. It starts at the basics of the Taoist philosophy towards healing and how the abdomen and five major organs play a vital role. Not only does it give the basic techniques the author also outlines basic Qigong movements and meditations which complement the theory and massage techniques very well. Additionally it provides an overview of what a treatment might be like for the giver and receiver. Be prepared to have patience when learning the techniques and meditations as they cannot be learnt over night. It's not a quick fix but a genuine healing modality.
May need some experience to really appreciate this.......2000-03-28
The applications and theories presented here are good, but a reader may want to read some more basic works first, and gain a little qigong experience in order to truely appreciate it.

Book Description
Acclaimed author and chess grandmaster Mihail Marin presents an opening repertoire for Black against the Open Games. This means providing an answer to 1.e4, but not considering the main lines of the Spanish Opening. This includes openings such as the Scotch, the Vienna, the Spanish Exchange Variation, and even the notorious King's Gambit. Marin uses his renowned writing skills to explain the ideas behind each move, so Beating the Open Games escapes the standard opening book trap of being a boring list of analysis. Marin has based the book mainly on his own repertoire and reveals many original moves and ideas. After studying this book the reader will not only have an excellent repertoire but also a deeper understanding of chess.
I can't recall having seen a better book in the last two decades. -- Jeremy Silman, BCF Book of the Year winner Jeremy Silman

Book Description
Describing the constitutional rights of women in twelve countries, the contributors to this collection draw on a wide range of legal cases covering issues such as abortion, sexual harassment, employment discrimination, sexual abuse, pornography, family relationships, access to health and social assistance benefits, and electoral rights, among others. Their analysis reveals how essentially male judges decide cases that are mainly about women's equality claims. The volume's comparative perspective provides readers with the basis for independent pursuits of constitutional equality for women.
Book Description
Cheech Marin, well known for his three decades of work as a comedian, actor, director, and musician, has long championed Chicano artists and been a collector of their work. This breakthrough publication will be available in both hardcover and paperback formats. The exhibition features Marin's collection of over 30 artists' work, and their paintings that depict Hispanic culture, religion, and politics with brilliant color and emotion. Incisive essays by leading scholars describe the origins of Chicano art. In the same way that Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo redefined our understanding and appreciation of Mexican art, Chicano artists such as Gronk, Patssi Valdez, and Carlos Almaraz are putting Chicano art on the cutting edge of contemporary art.
Customer Reviews:
Look at these Amazing Pictures!.......2007-08-24
Cheech Marin has collected some of the most amazing, enthralling pictures (paintings, drawings, etc.) by Chicano artists that I've come across! This book is such a rich collection to own because some of us can't afford to buy art, but we can look again & again at the copies he's put together. There are well-known artists, unknown artists, and people I'm thrilled to have found out about because their work is so brilliant. Some places where I've seen "Chicano" art collected before have stuck to one style, very pastely, very soft colors, a certain women's painting style that has its place but isn't representative. This book isn't like that. Marin has collected paintings of incredible scenes, showing car wreck victims, cholos, lovers embracing, a drive-by shooting in progress, a freeway accident, & a police shake down to name a few. The "realist" aspect of these pictures is so entertaining that it will provide owners of the book hours of transfixing study & discussion! Buy it!
Chicano Visions: American Painters on the Verge.......2007-03-14
Absolutely breathtaking. A great addition to my collection.
Electrifying and inspiring!.......2005-03-11
I am insanely jealous of Cheech Marin's art collection, or at least those pieces that are featured in this book. A true artist is one who can make the ugly beautiful, or at least make you look at it with a different perspective, such as David Botello's "Alone and Together Under the Freeway"
Frank Romero's "Arrest of the Paleteros" is tragic and funny at the same time, with the hapless ice cream sellers lined against a wall in front of robot-like cops.
Adan Hernandez' "Sin Titulo II", while not owned by Marin, is included in this book, and gives a peeping-Tom's eye view of a family's living room-it is stunningly beautiful and menacing at the same time. Other works in this book are excellent, and it is inspiring for any artist in a rut, who needs a fresh look at some unusual talents.
fearless, robust, and innovative art.......2004-06-28
Some of the most innovative and brilliant art in America is being done by those in the Chicano art movement; the range of styles and techniques is vast, but they all share a vibrancy and vigor that is hard to find elsewhere in the art world.
Cheech Marin has accumulated a fabulous collection, and must be commended for bringing this art to fifteen cities the U.S. in the travelling exhibit, and to the world with this marvelous book. Marin also writes the insightful introduction, and there are excellent and informative essays by Max Benavidez, Constance Cortez, and Tere Romero, as well as mini bios of the 26 artists represented in the volume.
Among the highlights for me are the 4 pictures by George Yepes, that include his "La Pistola y el Corazon," which was the cover for the Los Lobos CD of the same title (pg. 144), the 10 pages of the glorious, impressionistic work of Carlos Almaraz, especially "Southwest Song," with its horse and rider and splashy moonlit sky (pg. 53), and Leo Limon, starting with his "Frida and Palomas" through his complex symbolic storytelling in "Los Muertos" (93-99). I recently had the opportunity to view Frank Romero's work at the Icaro Gallery in Long Beach, California, and was thrilled by his rich use of color, and his sense of humor, both aspects which are well illustrated on pages 108 through 117.
The layout of the this book is excellent, and the color reproduction superb; on thick glossy pages, the work comes alive, excites and inspires, and will not be forgotten. This is work that will stand the test of time, and as Marin writes, the viewer is "...transported to a place both timeless and immediate, that provides the ultimate validation for this new movement in art."
what a feast!.......2004-01-18
Rebeccasreads recommends CHICANO VISIONS as a glorious feast for the eyes, containing the inevitable hair-raising violence, pulsing cityscapes & sun bleached field labors, as well as the beauty that is before us. There are ethereal visions of heaven & hell, of blood hot nights as well as rich family life.
There are visions wrought in "primitive" styles, in sleek "photorealism" & in vibrant complex iconography -- giving us insights into the Chicano experience, both female & male.
We can spend hours discussing the merits of each painting: their composition, impact & style, whether they are "good art", however, as Cheech Marin writes in his Introduction "...it is the lone art lover standing in front of a great painting with his jaw dropped, transported to a place both timeless and immediate, that provides the ultimate validation..."
Worth every cent of the price of admission.
Product Description
In this thoroughly researched biography, anthropologist and archaeologist Betty Goerke has pieced together a portrait of the life of a fugitive leader, using mission records, ethnographies, explorers and missionaries diaries and correspondence, and other material. Chief Marin became a leader of Native resistance to Spanish colonization at that critical time when, as the mission system collapsed, California would once again be transformed, this time by Americans. With marvelous detail, Goerke paints a picture of the California of Marin s time.
Customer Reviews:
Any resident of Northern California well knows one of its richest counties is Marin County.......2007-07-27
Marin County, California, is named after a Native American tribal chieftain of the Coast Miwok who resisted Spanish colonization at a time when the infamous system of Spanish missions collapsed and California was being rapidly transformed by the Americans. "Chief Marin: Leader, Rebel, And Legend" is a compelling biography of a hitherto obscure figure by anthropologist and archaeologist Betty Goerke who drew upon her seminal research efforts with mission records, ethnographies, the diaries and correspondences of missionaries and explorers, and other source materials. Of special note is the section of thematically relevant photographic illustrations. An enthusiastically recommended addition to academic and community library Native American Studies and American Biography reference collections, "Chief Marin" is a vividly written, informative biography of a remarkable man and his epic struggle to emancipate his people from the Spanish colonial system in an ultimately doomed effort to preserve his people's aboriginal lifestyle.
Book Description
Here is a world-class chess repertoire for Black against 1.e4. As the title suggests, the repertoire is based on the respected Spanish Opening, or the Ruy Lopez, as it is sometimes called. In his previous book, Beating the Open Games, Grandmaster Mihail Marin dealt with White's options up to 3.Bb5. Now Marin provides all the answers for Black after 4.Ba4. This depth of chess expertise has rarely been published for a mass audience before, as grandmasters usually prefer to keep their secrets. The complexity of the material could have been daunting, but Marin is also a master of explaining profound ideas to a wide audience.
