This journal is awesome-I highly recommend.......2007-10-09
It has plenty of room for both workouts and food, I have only one complaint. There need to be more categories in the food section, just Calories-Fat-Protein-Carbs. How about sugar, fiber, or saturated fat?
Great log..........2007-09-17
This is one of the best logs I've used. I has space for nutritional as well as workout routines and it breaks the space quite nicely. I would recommend it for those looking for an all in one log.
Great Workout Tool.......2007-09-06
This is an excellent workout tool. It is easy to use and contains room for everything important.

Great Workout/Nutrition Journal.......2007-07-26
I have bought 3 so far. They are great for tracking all your daily fitness and nutrition. I put my workouts in the night before I go to the gym and then take my journal with me the next morning.

absolutely the best introduction to massage available.......2007-10-16
There is no question that this book is the best introduction to massage. It is written both with heart and with the correct information you need as a beginging student. You can feel the passion of the writers for the subject, and no wonder, Tappan is one of the most famous massage therapists America ever had. The authors write so sympathetically that you are pulled further into the book. This is an amazing accomplishment in a college level textbook. I am in love with this book! It integrates Eastern and Western styles beautifully. A beautiful labor of love. This book is also on the recommended study list by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Body Work. Not many books made that cut. To get started all you need in addition to this book is a great anatomy and physiology book like my favorite by Tortora and Grabowski.
Excellent Reference book and CD-ROM.......2007-05-22
This is a thoroughly user friendly book for the student of massage, and the best general reference book on massage that I've found. The book attempts to cover it all and does a fairly good job. Particularly good is its section on Western Massage Techniques, especially those demonstrated in the video. The chapter and section in the video on trigger points and their release are particularly helpful for athletes.
Great Text.......2006-03-22
This is a great book showing strokes and techniques!! Highly recommended for all massage.
A very good book .......2005-10-28
This is a very good book and the companion CD-Rom is really very helpful.
Did not give 5 stars though because the Cd-Rom could have been made more friendly to navigate (maybe including a "play all" option) and should allow us to view the presentations in full screen and not limited to a very small image.
Superb and dependable service.......2005-10-19
The book was in very good condition and arrived in a timely fashion. I was pleasantly surprised to find a CD-ROM included with the purchase for practical instructions as well.
Thanks Amazon!
Book Description
It was 1733 when the poet and philosopher Voltaire met Emilie du Châtelet, a beguiling—and married—aristocrat who would one day popularize Newton’s arcane ideas and pave the way for Einstein’s theories. In an era when women were rarely permitted any serious schooling, this twenty-seven-year-old’s nimble conversation and unusual brilliance led Voltaire, then in his late thirties, to wonder, “Why did you only reach me so late?” They fell immediately and passionately in love.
Through the prism of their tumultuous fifteen-year relationship we see the crumbling of an ancient social order and the birth of the Enlightenment. Together the two lovers rebuilt a dilapidated and isolated rural chateau at Cirey where they conducted scientific experiments, entertained many of the leading thinkers of the burgeoning scientific revolution, and developed radical ideas about the monarchy, the nature of free will, the subordination of women, and the separation of church and state.
But their time together was filled with far more than reading and intellectual conversation. There were frantic gallopings across France, sword fights in front of besieged German fortresses, and a deadly burning of Voltaire’s books by the public executioner at the base of the grand stairwell of the Palais de Justice in Paris. The pair survived court intrigues at Versailles, narrow escapes from agents of the king, a covert mission to the idyllic lakeside retreat of Frederick the Great of Prussia, forays to the royal gambling tables (where Emilie put her mathematical acumen to lucrative use), and intense affairs that bent but did not break their bond.
Along with its riveting portrait of Voltaire as a vulnerable romantic, Passionate Minds at last does justice to the supremely unconventional life and remarkable achievements of Emilie du Châtelet—including her work on the science of fire and the nature of light. Long overlooked, her story tells us much about women’s lives at the time of the Enlightenment. Equally important, it demonstrates how this graceful, quick-witted, and attractive woman worked out the concepts that would lead directly to the “squared” part of Einstein’s revolutionary equation: E=mc2.
Based on a rich array of personal letters, as well as writings from houseguests, neighbors, scientists, and even police reports,
Passionate Minds is both panoramic and intimate in feeling. It is an unforgettable love story and a vivid rendering of the birth of modern ideas.

Passionate Minds, Dull Book.......2007-08-03
This reader did not venture upon Passionate Minds with unreasonable expectations: a good yarn featuring an enlightened cast was all. Sadly, the effort was not worth the result. A middling tale, a tabloid history, and that most hideous of affectations, aspirations to wit on the part of the author. Claims to be liberating du Chatelet from the chauvinist past revealed less about her intellectual work than the descriptions of her appearance did of her [...]. Voltaire may well have been a hypochondriacal social climber, but he deserves better than lit crit 101 reviews of his work. The author seems extremely uncomfortable with the period: kings must be stupid & useless, aristocrats are not much better, merchants are hard working, peasants are earthy. When claiming that Voltaire's relationship with his niece was fine, because those things were more acceptable in such debauched times, Bodanis overlooks that minor inconvenience known as canon law. He also, presumably for reasons of humour, refers to Madame de Pompadour as Ms Poisson, combining historical innacuracy with silliness - this is not feminism, it is just plain wrong. The period and people covered by this book are fascinating in so many ways, yet the end result is shallow and dull.
Great History.......2007-07-24
This book gave me a fascinating piece of history that I was completly uninformed on. It is fascinating learning the details regarding life in a period that is completly foreign to our culture. It is also fascinating to find out the contributions that women made in science at a time when it was believed that women were completly ignorant, and every effort was made to keep them so.
"You are a delight/You are tender/What pleasure I find in your arms." Immortal verse?.......2007-04-18
I must thoroughly agree with the Publisher's Weekly reviewer of this book. Although it promises to deliver sensational events such as hot love affairs and outrageous behavior in addition to enlightening us about the brilliance of Voltaire and the genius of Emilie du Chatelet, this writer cannot live up to his own book's expectations or his clear attempt to pen a bestseller. What I felt I was getting was the diary entries of a peeping Tom who was busy sticking his nose into the sordid soap opera that was the "great love affair of the Enlightenment." I never had a sense that I was in the presence of a brilliant woman. Rather, Emilie comes off as a hedonistic and conflicted female, fatally insecure, and overshadowed by the even more insecure and narcissistic Voltaire. Although lots of information is imparted between the covers of this book, it never seems to gel into a cohesive or gripping whole, and I was left feeling flat, not only about the featured on-again, off-again eighteenth-century rock-star couple, but about eighteenth-century France altogether. No one seemed worth reading about. The lot of these folks apparently were stuck in their petty, class conscious, foolish ways, fawning over the court, slapping around the general population who weren't upper class, and generally being idiots. Perhaps the best I can say about this work is that it redeems science and rational thinking as well as the integrity of the individual, but only in a backhanded way. I'm afraid most readers will give up on this endless recounting of flaming passions and pettifoggery before getting halfway through. Lucky would they be too because they would happily miss the glaring and unforgivable fragment on p. 163: "But not only was the water cleaner in Cirey. There was also something more to Emilie's innovation." Editor please!
History comes alive........2007-04-05
In writing history for the masses, the author can take a major or a minor role. In the former, the history is more important than entertaining and the author has to pull the narrative along with great effort and undergo great travails to make the story interesting to the reader. In the latter, the history is so compelling and so entertaining that it defies logic, all the author has to do is tell the tale without much ornamentation nor effort.
David Bodanis, much to his credit, combined the best of both situations. The history is remarkbable to begin with, AND he put forth a valiant effort in research and sheer completeness. The story of Emilie Du Chatelet is so amazing and so very interesting that I wondered why I had not heard about her before this book. I think that it is because the story lay so deep and domant within the history of the French revolution and Voltaire's biographical details that no one lese had bothered to look it up and comprehend the importance and fun of her story.
Since the history involves two people who were lovers and partners, it is inevitable that we compare the two in terms of intellect, temperament, achievement, and personality. In my humble opinion, Voltaire came out the worse for wear on that account. Perhaps this was Bodanis' intent, perhaps it is just the charm of Emilie Du Chatelet. If I had my wish, I would much rather have an audience with her than with him, but not by much. Her achievements were astounding, she was, a natural philosopher in the finest sense of the phrase. Given the discriminatory stance of the scientific establishment at the time, her achievements were remarkable.
Far beyond that, it seems she was also the better diplomat, realist, politician, and intellect of the pair. This is not to denigrate Voltiare's prowess as playwright or provocateur extraordinaire, but his intellect seem less impressive by comparison.
The added incentive to read the book comes from the swashbuckling episodes in their lives together that was worthy of a cinematic presentation. Bodanis does an excellent job of building the suspense while also keeping the story line flowing through his fine skills. I guess the best compliment I can pay him is to say that I had to check the book cover numeorus times to ascertain that I was, indeed, reading non-fiction rather than fiction.
a casual but entertaining biography.......2007-02-10
I became interested in Emilie du Chatelet after reading a review of Judith Zinsser's biography on her. However, I ended up picking up Bodanis's book instead because it was written in a more welcoming style than Zinsser's drier account.
Emilie du Chatelet is a fascinating woman whose story needs little embelishment to be an entertaining read, but Bodanis's sense of humor and intimate approach to writing her biography do make it more intersting and readable. While he often goes out on a limb making assumptions about people's thoughts and actions that surely weren't documented, I don't think he was too unrealistic or uncalled for in doing so.
Bodanis also does a fine job intertwining the biography of Voltaire into Emilie's story, bringing to light Voltaire's little-known in science. He elegantly ties their lives into the climate of the Enlightenment and the events leading up to the French Revolution. In doing so, he introduces a tapestry of characters that played a key role in history as well as in Emilie and Voltaire's lives.
Absent from this book is anything more than a glossing-over of Emilie's scientific and mathematical contributions. Yet I can understand why this was done-- the light narrative of the book would have been bogged down by in-depth calculations and explainations that some readers may not be interested in or understand. Nevertheless, as a woman who loves math and science I was disappointed that Bodanis didn't go into greater detail here.
It's not often that I read more than one book on a particular person or subject (there are just too many interesting things to learn in this world), but now I'm eager to read more about Emile du Chatelet and will be picking up Judith Zinsser's more serious and detailed book soon. A quick and engaging read, Passionate Minds is an excellent introduction to this amazing lady.

Excellent health tool!.......2007-08-11
This is my second volume of this book. I filled up the first one already! My doctor finds this book extremely helpful in troubleshooting symptoms and it only takes a second to fill out every night, unlike keeping a diary which takes too long for my tastes.
THE BEST Journal for tracking health and symptoms!.......2007-08-02
I have had migraines for over 10 years that have turned chronic in the last 4-5 years. My doctors suggested that I keep a journal of symptoms, meds, pain level, what I ate, and anything else that I thought that could be triggering the M's. This is a very detailed, while being compact for as much info that needs to be put down in some medical conditions. I purchased this under the recommendation of fellow migraneur's and have been using it for over a year. I just purchased 4 more so I will be well stocked. Thank you Frances E. Wilkins for doing such a fine job of putting this together and thank you MemoryMinder Journals, Inc for publishing this for us! :)
Memory Minder, Personal Health Journal.......2007-05-21
A good little diary & symptom log if you need to keep taps on your medical progress.
Great health journal.......2007-04-15
I looked at a few of the health/wellness diaries before purchasing this one. I'm happy with the purchase. With the "Look Inside" feature you see exactly what the journal pages look like before making the purchase. That was the deciding factor for me purchasing it. Recording in a journal like this can help you find out how the weather, certain foods, exercise, stress, etc. affect how you feel, especially if you have a known condition where you have good days and bad days.
The only negative I see is that it has only 95 journal entry pages, so you can use it for about 3 months or can stretch it a little if you use it every other day or so.
Great product for the use.......2007-03-11
I have fibromyalgia and this book helps me keep track of my days and shows me what I do that brings me up and down. Great way to keep track if you are a Fibro person.

Beautiful book, lacking in story........2004-11-08
I purchased this book because it was so beautiful when I flipped thru it (and on sale). It is most unique though; some pages hold little trinkets like miniature envelopes with letters inside. Although the story was slightly interesting and ends like a fairy tale, this is a purchase more for the beauty of the book, rather than the actual content. I would give the book four stars for its beauty alone, but I didn't want the Amazon rating to be misleading in how it's ranked. A great item for the coffee table.
The Woman's Comfort Book.......2004-05-19
I bought this book as a gift for a friend but when I took it home and read it, I couldn't bear to part with it so I went back and bought another copy. Now, a year later, I've discovered the book again, in a less frenzied time.
Reading it is like returning to the comfort of childhood when stories were read to us in soothing tones. And, every few pages, there is a treasure to discover, a gift, a surprise, (the one we always waited for when our parents returned from a trip!)
This book will relocate the kind and gentle memories lost in the embers of a despondent heart.

The Secrets of Pistoulet is an uplifting, tactile creation of recipes, illustrations and humor, all bound together by a dynamite cover. This book is as much a pleasure to give to others as it was to receive.
Product Description
(Available as E-book or Paperback! The E-book is listed for five dollars and fifty cents by seller, GodSaveMyMarriage. Please do not order the five and a half dollar option if you would like the paperback.)
Joel and Kathy Davisson experienced a troubled marriage for ten years while in the ministry. Their troubles culminated in adultery while pastoring their first church in 1991.
For three years they struggled and then began to learn fresh, life-giving principles of how to have an outrageously happy marriage. God taught them that marriage has been presented 'upside down' in the church for 45 years. The principles that Joel and Kathy started to live in 1994 set their marriage right side up and will do the same thing for yours.
Joel and Kathy lived this successful and new paradigm for ten years before writing their story and sharing the lessons learned.
Be sure to look for book two, also for sale here at Amazon! "The Man of Her Dreams/The Woman of His!2: Livin' It and Lovin' It!"

Another good resource for marriages..........2007-09-01
This book, along with using scripture, can help couples identify and address marital problems and remedy them so that their marriages can be blessed and happy. As each spouse is overflowing with the love of God, then their marriage will be happy and blessed. The church and society at large will benefit as happily married christian couples bring God's kingdom into this world.
Just as God's grace is multifaceted, I believe that solutions in life will be as well. There are many good marriage books. I just read an unflattering book review by the couple that wrote this book (which is how I got here), and I am concerned on a variety of levels. The following statements are from the bible and should be lived out. Christians are to submit to God first and then to one another. Christians are to love other christians and non-christians. Husbands are are to love their wives as Christ loved the church. Wives are told to submit/obey their husbands. The weight of emphasis is what Joel has an issue with. He expresses frustration with the emphasis that if wives would only submit, husbands would love. I agree with him. But God's order and design for marriage should not be dismissed. I need to love my enemies, regardless if they deserve it. Husbands and wives have responsibilities in marriage whether the spouses deserve it or not.
It is astounding to me that Joel would publicly denounce another book on the same subject matter in a book review on Amazon. He never finished reading the book he criticized. He claims that the bible teaching of women having to submit to their husbands is based on one LONELY scripture and is actually the reason that the church's teaching on marriage has been 'upside down' for 45 years. He purports that his book teaches something inspired by God and corrects the generally accepted church marriage paradigm. On this topic, Joel claims to be prophetic.
He also claimed in his review that his greatest need as a man "is for me to learn what it means to lay my life down for my wife and love her as Christ loves the church," not to be respected by his wife. These are not analogous. Actually, one is his responsibility/obligation (dying for his wife and loving her), the other is a reference to a desired response from his wife (respect). The author of "Love and Respect" (the critically reviewed book) makes that distinction. Husbands and wives are responsible to behave as the Bible teaches, regardless of the number of scriptures that support a behavior (for instance - being a living sacrifice). Respect is something I appreciate from others, especially my wife.
Another strong statement in the review is "I do not want my wife to feel like she is supposed to "respect" me simply because I am her husband or because the bible tells her to respect me. Yes, every man would like to feel respect - but does a Christlike man want his wife to respect him just because he is a male whom she is married to? No. A real man wants to live a life that is worthy of respect and wants to be respected because of the life that he lives." He obviously was not worthy of her respect for many years in their marriage. In fact, his behavior while being a pastor was bad enough to disqualify him from ministry. We as christians should be living lives that please God which will engender the responses of respect and love in return. I would like to illustrate this from a wife's perspective, using Joel's quote, "I do not want my husband to feel like he is supposed to "love" me simply because I am his wife or because the bible tells him to love me. Yes, every woman would like to feel love - but does a Christlike woman want her husband to respect her just because she is a female whom he is married to? No. A real woman wants to live a life that is worthy of love and wants to be loved because of the life that she lives"? I would hope so. We should live what the bible says, even if others are not living the way they are supposed to be living. Proverbs 31 exhorts women to be virtuous. Men and women, regardless of being spouses, are called to be holy and loving.
Joel was a pastor when he was guilty of abusing his wife emotionally, physically, and spiritually. He eventually committed adultery. Interestingly, his parents were involved with pastoring as well, and his father had also committed adultery and left the family. It makes one wonder when a family of pastors can behave so badly. Joel, as the egregious offender, he needed to change, and not blame his wife. But what about when a wife commits adultery? Is it the husband's fault? As David proclaimed, I have sinned against the Lord. Good marriage counseling addresses spousal accountabilities, thoughts and behaviors that are inconsistent with them, and strategies to help change the marriage for the better. Rarely is a bad marriage one spouse's fault.
Before Joel's book was written in 2004, many wonderful helpful biblical marriage books were already written. And if he had read those books, he may have avoided or shortened the length of the abuse and adultery that he was guilty of. A book that balances a husband's responsibility in marriage and a wife's responsibility in marriage is called "The Way of Agape" by Nancy Missler, written in 1995. Her marriage was in shambles as well, but she fought to preserve her marriage just like Joel's wife fought to preserve theirs. Another book that was written from the perspective that a husband's behavior alone could turn a marriage around is called "Rekindled, How to Keep the Warmth in Marriage" by Pat Williams, also written in 1995. Both books take different approaches, but the end result was the same - a saved, vibrant, restored marriage.
Hopefully, in the spirit of Christian love and humility, Joel will refrain from writing additional poor book reviews on marital topics, while promoting his own books. The love he promotes in this book for his wife comes from the Holy Spirit. The same source should influence Joel to be less critical of other marriage books.
Great Book.......2007-07-19
As a Christian Counselor I use many books in my work including this one and "The Man of Her Dreams The Woman of His! 2" (the second book by this same author. I also like the new book A Forever Love Story Surviving Trials in Marriage These books are useful in showing how a Christian marriage should be. They are great "instruction manuals" on doing marriage right that goes well with the Bible. I would certainly recommend all of these books to any couple wishing to better their marriage.
Enjoyed the Book.......2007-06-30
This book is very informative and helpful in the age old conflict between husbands and wives. Joel is to be commended for his eye opening stand on issues that have for too long kept women in mental outlooks of defeat, especially when it comes to a troubled marriage. Joel and Kathy have taken a position of determination to help people realize their responsibilties in contributing to the foundation of trusting love and wholesomeness between a couple. For me, this book has been invaluable for supporting and even encouraging regaining hope that was lost and a renewed self image. That, in itself, is healing. I appreciated the emphasis on men recognizing their God-given responsibilty to lay down their own interests in life, as the head of the home, for the good of their wives. I have always believed that good would come back to them in abundance, if they caught hold of that vision. Love and respect is the main theme throughout this book. What better platform can you speak from then what God has already declared to be His design in the first place.
Hats off to Joel and Kathy! And prayerfully, may this type of writing/ministry be a forerunner to many ministries and counselors who seek to help in the marriage arena. Here is "hole" in our society that needs to be addressed and fixed. I would recommend this book to anyone who is married or even thinking about getting married!! Full of common sense.
This information WILL change your life!.......2007-06-13
This book is awesome and powerful. Joel and Kathy are truly amazing and hit the nail right on the head in every area of how to have the marriage of your dreams!!
Made in Heaven!.......2007-06-12
Made in Heaven!
When it comes to communicating how struggling marriages can be healed, God has done a mighty work in authors, Joel and Kathy Davisson. And the good news is they have shared what they learned in not one, but two of the most innovative marriage books around.
Book I, The Man of Her Dreams, The Woman of His, tells how their relationship was restored, using sound biblical principals, after the sins of adultery and abuse had taken a huge toll on their marriage.
In Book II, The Man of Her Dreams The Woman of His 2 - Livin' It and Lovin' It! (Volume 2) Joel and Kathy continue to share the insight God has given them which has produced the "outrageously happy marriage" they now enjoy. Such ideas as the husband as initiator in the relationship--the husband sets the tone of the marriage--he is the leader in that sense. They also champion submission--not as it has traditionally been taught, but MUTUAL submission, wherein the wife submits to the husband AND the husband submits to the wife. As in Book I, men are called to "become the man God is calling you to be by being the husband your wife needs you to be."
In both of their books, Joel and Kathy teach tried and true concepts gleaned from the Bible that they have applied to their own once struggling, now very successful marriage. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to have or help others to have a marriage (literally) made in heaven!

Book Description
This acclaimed history illuminates the horrifying episode of Salem with visceral clarity, from those who fanned the crisis to satisfy personal vendettas to the four-year-old "witch" chained to a dank prison wall in darkness till she went mad. Antonia Fraser called it "a grisly read and an engrossing one."

An early American tragedy.......2007-10-14
This is not what I would call a book that you "can't put down," but it is well worth the time spent. This comprehensive account of the Salem witch trials is concerned not only with the historical events, but also delves into the reasons behind what fueled the witch-hunt. The political forces at work are examined in detail, as well as the psychology behind what enabled this tragedy.
Through extensive reasearch, the author reconstructs the environment of self-repression and religious extremism that defined the times. This account reads more like a narrative than a history book. The author includes many interesting asides, such as what the Puritans' days were like, what they ate for their meals, and how they lived in general, giving a realistic feel for the era. Her detailed description of the dungeon experience gives you a real appreciation of the cruelty these victims endured.
This is not your tourists' Salem. If you are interested in the real story behind the witchcraft fury, this well researched account, through analytical study, recreates the Puritan experience in detail. The summary of key persons, chronolgy, and death toll at the end of the book serves as an excellent reference. Definitely recommended reading.
Quite informative, but dreadfully boring.......2007-07-10
This book appears to be a well researched product, but it is very poorly written. In my opinion, an author needs to be a gifted prose writer to make a book readable and interesting. Frances Hill does not seem to possess that gift.
Microhistorical essay on Salem witch-hunt of 1692-93.......2007-03-12
Witch-hunting is a phenomenon that starts in Fifteen Century Europe as a crusade of the Roman Catholic Church against the still partially pagan traditions that survived among the country folk. Women were those that most kept alive ancient superstitions, practiced traditional medicine and maintained the knowledge on how to conjure spirits and make filters. The Inquisition had about finished persecuting the heretics, even because after Martin Luther they were so many that religious wars had to be fought, when it turned its attention to "witchcraft".
Accusations of witchcraft were mostly made by priests and preachers belonging to the religious hierarchy. Witch hunting however did not cease with the Reformation and Counter Reformation but spread also to England and Northern Europe. However, since these societies did not have a religious hierarchy, accusation and judgement were carried out by neighbors and local religious authorities.
America's witch-hunts of the 1600's followed clearly English patterns and the Salem episode ranks first among others.
Frances Hill's microhistorical reconstruction of the Salem Village witch craze accurately describes this horrible episode of Colonial American history. The plethora of documents available from the Mathers' books, to the relations of the trials, to the speeches pronounced before hanging or many years after by the victims and their accusers allows a faithful reconstruction of those far away village disputes. The Author's precise psychological, medical and sociological analysis of the available facts consents to formulate the hypothesis of the hysterical nature of the Salem girls' "attacks", manipulated in a second time by a part of the Salem Village's traditionalist and retrograde society. The Putnam family is made responsible for most of the accusations, the imprisonments and the hangings. The main pushing force that ignited the whole episode was the fear and the envy towards a part of the society that moved faster and reached economical success with greater ease. Salem's witch-hunt suddenly ceased when Boston's higher and more educated classes were called upon and when Salem's inhabitants visually realized what they were doing.
This book, I repeat, is a good microhistorical essay and gives a credible and rational explanation of the Salem witch-hunt, however the persecution of witchcraft started long before Salem and in each successive wave manifested different characteristics. To actually interpret McCarthyism, child sexual abuse persecution and anti-Islam mentality after 9/11 as episodes of witch-hunting is to my opinion a little reductive.
I live in Italy and my child's professor (9th grade) gave this book as an assignment on religious discrimination, linking it to the crusades against the Cathars. So, as you can see, history may be interpreted in many ways!
A Very Interesting Book.......2007-01-14
A Delusion of Satan by Francis Hill is not only an informative book, but an intriguing one as well. The fascinating topic of the Salem witch trials is thoroughly examined for political, religious, economic, psychological, and social causes and is explained in the fullest of detail. The persons involved in this disturbing chain of events are each looked at psychologically to acquire an understanding of what truly happened during this time period. The thinking process of many of the persons is enthralling.
A fact that I found particularly interesting is the fact that the entire ordeal was started with a few bored teenage girls cracking eggs into glasses of water to see what trades their future husband will have. It seems that this is a very innocent act of child play, but it evolved into a huge mess. Also, their methods of punishment were very interesting. These and may more facts make for an incredibly interesting book.
However, although there are many positive points to this book, some of the negative characteristics must be acknowledged. There were many details in this book that, although they were needed to develop the events and connect them, made the book a tedious and boring read. Also, there was a lot of family history and background of the involved persons that, even though it helped to understand connections between families, was extremely dull and did not contribute very much to the book.
All in all, this book was an accurate and haunting depiction of the Salem witch trials. In some ways, it can be compared to a poem we read in class called "The Road Not Taken." In the poem, a person takes the path not taken by others. In this book, many of the women, instead of confessing and being let out on bail as many women did, chose to stick with the fact that they were innocent and were sent into the dungeon. This "road not taken" in this case, led to their destruction. This book is definitely not for everyone. Elementary school children could be severely disturbed by the graphicness of some of the torture, examinations, and hangings. I recommend A Delusion of Satan to any middle school student, high school student, or adult who has the time and patience to read this long, but important book.

Loved it.......2007-10-08
I love the Myrtles Plantation. This was a great book to find out what really happens in this haunted house. It makes me want to reserve a room. Good ghost story.
Great!.......2007-08-24
Really great book! It only took me maybe a week to finish the book and there are some really scarey moments. Loved it!!!!
He was HOW OLD?.......2007-07-17
I liked this book. Like the previous reviewer said, it was a fast fun read - at times unbelievable - but interesting. OK, here is my issue. In the book she has a friend Hamp. Hamp dies shortly after looking at the photograph someone took of him with balls of light forming the year 1967 above his head, which turns out to be his year of birth according to the author. Per the timeline she purchased the house in 1980, and Hamp passed the second year she lived there. SO - do the math - Hamp was 15 years OLD? Understand that in the book this character is detailed as an imposing but gentle giant of a MAN that is a very close friend and spiritual advisor to her, but based on her dates he was a kid. Anyway. This and a few other seeming falsehoods in the book do stand out, but overall it is well written and entertaining. I feel very sorry for all she had to endure at the hands of her husband though. Such a jerk!
Good read!.......2007-06-16
I really enjoyed this book. I thought I would have been scared but it really just fascinated me enough to make me want to visit the Myrtles. I think this book would make a great movie! I really felt for her and what she had to go through to run the Inn. I couldn't put it down.
Fiction not Fact.......2007-02-15
This book, like the Amityville Horror, was sensationalized to sell and, apparently, readers were not disappointed.
Although The Myrtles is advertised as the most haunted house in the US in which at least 10 people were murdered, records indicate only one person was murdered inside the house.
Chloe, the mistreated slave mistress who wears a green turban to conceal her missing ear, is the invention of people who owned the house in the early 1970s. In GHOSTS ALONG THE MISSISSIPPI, published in 1948, the ghost in the green turban is described as that of a French governess who had lost an ear to frostbite while working in Canada, and family records confirm such a governess was employed at The Myrtles.
Although oleander is a deadly poisonous plant occasionally utilized by murderers, no such poisonings took place at The Myrtles. This, too, was an invention of the people who changed the green-turbaned governess into Chloe, the slave.
This is not to say The Myrtles isn't haunted. The French governess may still haunt the house along with a few other spirits. But I would think the most active spirit would be that of Judge Woodruff who is angry about his good name being maligned by modern-day sensation seekers.
Regardless of all the hoopla about The Myrtles, it is not even the most haunted house in Louisiana, let alone in the US. Destrehan Plantation has several real, not manufactured, spirits and is more likely the most haunted house in Louisiana.

Truely restful.......2006-08-06
I originally got this from the local library and enjoyed it so much I wanted to own it. It is taken from 'The Course' and is very relaxing and peaceful. I listen to these tapes when I'm stressed or anxious. It calms me and helps put my life in perspective Immediately! I particularly like to drift off to sleep listening if I'm having a hard time getting proper rest. I'm glad I have these 3 tapes.
Amazon mailed duplicate CD'S.......2005-08-28
I ordered a 4 CD set. I received 4 cd's, however the 3rd and 4th cd were identical to the 1st and 2nd cd! I have duplicate cd's and I do not know how to correct their mistake!
Three of the best tapes on spiritual wisdom I've ever heard........1999-12-13
Words can't describe how beautifully and eloquently the message of the book 'A Course in Miracles' is conveyed through the heart-warming and spellbinding voice of Richard Thomas.
I have heard these tapes, and especially the 1st one of the set, countless of times...

Could the Priory be a front for other occult societies in Europe with religious or even political agendas?

Wonderful Research.......2007-06-30
Anyone who is interested in learning about the Priory of Sion and also about the Merovingian myth, will enjoy this easy to read book. It is well researched and based upon my own research, I agree with the conclusions presented in this well written book.
Picknett and Prince present information that poses questions about age-old
theories. The surprise ending is well worth the read and the bibliography
and references are extensive. Bettye Johnson, author, Secrets of the Magdalene Scrolls.

endless facts, sources, and names.......but it all goes nowhere.......2006-06-06
I enjoyed reading the book at first, but after about 75 pages I simply couldn't stand it anymore. Maybe I just didn't know enough before picking up the book, but I was completely lost in the deluge of names, titles, and politics of France. I skipped far ahead in the book and it still seemed to lead nowhere. Eventually I skipped to the end...even that seemed uneventful.
Now if your obsessive about French politics and Pierre Plantard you might feel like your in heaven when you read this, it just didn't work out that well for me.
Also noticeable was a nearly complete lack of maps, photos, or graphics. These would have broken the book up nicely and provided a break from the endless amount of teasing, yet ultimatly non-connecting facts and names.
If possible, you might want to pre-read a few of the pages if they are available on amazon. It might give you an idea of how the book is structured throughout.
Lukas Dreyer - Palmerston North, New Zealand.......2006-05-28
I bought this book about a month ago and have really tried to read it. However I write this to vent my frustration for wasting my money. Easily the worst book I have bought and read in my entire life. If you want to read a book by somebody with little insigt trying to be politically correct this is the book for you. Not worth the paper it is written on.
Yes, Virginia, the Priory of Sion is a lie.......2006-05-11
In an interview prior to his death, one of the coauthors of "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" (a French nobleman) who allegedly discovered the "secret documents" revealing the Priory of Sion admitted that he had forged them in order to become famous. Therefore the "shocking revalation" of the Priory is indeed, a load of bull. (Sorry conspiracy theory fans!) I'm glad someone finally did their homework and realized it was a hoax, but the added conspiracy theory is just riduculous.
