Customer Reviews:
updated?.......2007-09-01
I'm not sure I trust the quality of update in this guide. First, the Rome metro diagram was not up to date...by about five years. It didn't include the Cipro and beyond stops. And, at least one of the addresses in Milan was not correct. I ended up knocking on the business' back door!
Frommers Itally 2007 .......2007-08-03
I received Frommers Itally 2007 book before the seller indicated that it would arrive! It was in excellent condition and has been very useful thus far.
Frommer's Italy 2007.......2007-07-04
This is an excellent book to use if you are planning a trip to italy, in terms of the quality of the information, it is informative and is also up to date, furthermore, the maps are both accurate as well as in proportion; the only fault we found with it, is that it lacks pictures, thus, it is excellent as a guide and planner, but has to be used in conjunction with the net, to be able to view images of the sites.
A lot of SMALL WRITING & hardly no pictures!.......2007-05-14
If you like to read small print and not see any pictures, then this is the guide for you. I was disapointed. I have ordered several different guides for Italy and this was not a good one since I enjoy visual displays to go with great writing. This was a lot of dull small printed writing with no visual effects.
I WOULD SUGGEST "DK Eyewitness Travel Italy"it is wonderful with the visual displays and historic lessons. It was very colorful and had the everything I was looking for.. maps, photographs, area color codes to divide sections, shopping suggestions, survival guide. bus and tram routes mapped out, and historical/travel lessons.
Frommer's Italy 2007.......2007-05-12
No where can I find such good value other than at Amazon. The shipping is waived most of the time, and the prices are fantastic. The delivery is always timely. Even though I can purchase some items locally I try to use Amazon more often than not. This item is for our upcoming Mediterranean Cruise and we are finding it exceedingly helpful for planning our journey.

Book Description
500 Places to Take Your Kids allows parents, grandparents, and kids to create a lifetime of shared memories while visiting destinations the whole family can enjoy. Here are cities, zoos, sports shrines, museums, castles, beaches, outdoor activities, and more—500 thoughtfully-chosen places that will enchant and beguile both the young and the young at heart.
Each entry contains all the information families need to help plan a trip: age ratings, service details, and nearby kid-friendly hotels. A Specialty Index organized by type of trip helps families discover places and activities for all ages and interests, while a Geographical Index allows families to locate attractions across the world or simply across town. Photos throughout the book help bring destinations to life.
Customer Reviews:
500 Places to take your GROWN kids.......2007-08-16
While I certainly appreciate how much research went into this book, there are so many places that are really not for kids...but older kids. Many of these places I am just now ready to see..and I'm a grandma.
I was just going on a trip with 3 of my grandkids but couldn't use any of this for this trip. We were going on the east coast and many of the places mentioned in this book were either out west or in other parts of the world.
I could think of many places that would be more fun for children than the ones mentioned here.
Great gift for mom/dad.......2007-08-15
This is a really neat book for families that like to travel. Some of the 500 places are a big unrealistic... the Pyramids in Egypt .... the Sydney Opera house... fabulous places, I'm sure, but not on the list of places for our family to visit in the near future. There were actually some places suggested in our own state that we had never heard of. Makes a great Father's Day or Mother's Day gift.
I should have read the reviews first..........2007-06-18
Several of the reviews said what I will now say--I don't like the way the book is organized. If I'm planning a trip, I don't want to have to flip from the index around the book to find out what is where I'm going. It is interesting that they are grouped by activities, but I doubt anyone will paddle across America. Also, I'm still baffled as to why the author recommends the Cairo Museum in Egypt, yet doesn't recommend going to the Pyramids (only 30 minutes from the museum) or anything else in Egypt for that matter. I wonder who makes the decisions about where to go. I'll still skim through the book for ideas, but I'll use the Fodor's kids series (Around ______ with Kids) when I really want to know what to do with kids. We used "Around Paris with Kids" when we took our toddlers there, and it was great for kids. Sure, we didn't take the kids to the Louvre (too young), but we saw a ton of cool playgrounds near every tourist site.
disappointed.......2007-04-22
I have twin 5-year olds and we travel every chance we get, from local treats, National Parks, and campouts, to the Smithsonian, old forts, and amusement parks, but I found it hard to take this book seriously when Disney World is actually not one of the 500 places to take your kids before they grow up but the Museo del in Prado in Spain is (recommended for ages 6 and over...having been there, the 7,000 paintings, although lovely, will not hold the attention of a 6-year old...unless he was born in a leap year). You can add the Louvre, or Borobudur, or the Huntington Library for that matter. I have been to 212 of the places in this book -- many of them worth mentioning for older people. I am a fan of educational trips and stops, but a little fun is also necessary for the young ones, and this book makes it near impossible to actually plan a trip that drifts along from the locations in this book. And really, Disney is the happiest place on Earth (I swear I don't work for them....but ask your kid -- Disney or the Hermitage?)
Better than they say.......2007-04-06
Other reviewers have really given this book a bum rap. True, the layout is a bit confusing--a better world map, along with appropriate cross-references by geographic location, would have been helpful--but it is filled with quite a lot of useful and realistic travel destinations.
You child may not be up to visiting Mount Fuji or the D-Day beaches. Then again, maybe she or he will! I took my child to Verdun (recommended in this book) at age six, and the stark cost and meaning of modern war has stayed with him. Personally, I think the author deserves kudos for urging parents to aim high--to destinations that have genuine cultural and educational value--rather than just spouting the putrid Disneyworld-type destinations that far too many families consider to be appropriate family travel.
That said, unlike Patricia Schultz's 1,000 Places to See Before You Die (which reviewers, for some arcane reason, seem to love), the destinations recommended in this book are almost all within the normal financial range of the average middle-class family. Moreover, for those with less adventurous tastes, it contains plenty of museums and other mainstream kid-friendly destinations. For family travel off the beaten track, I highly recommend this book.

Very informative.......2007-10-08
This book has been very informative in helping us to select which cruise line, tours and offshore excursions we plan to take advantage of while in Alaska. I highly recommend reading this BEFORE BOOKING and taking it along as a guide on your trip. It gives insider tips you may not have thought about when planning a trip. JPB

Frommer's Alaska.......2007-05-07
This is a good summary book to have. I found it informative. Although this book by itself is not enough for planning a trip to Alaska. It gives highlights but I found myself needing additional information.
A good buy
Great Travelers Guide for the whole state.......2007-03-17
Great reviews on places to go throughout the state. I always like to visit the restaurants that the locals go and Frommer lets you know where they are at. If you are going to Denali National Park, make sure you pick up a copy of Discovering Denali.

Customer Reviews:
Frommers Ireland 2007 Best Bet.......2007-09-20
Frommer's guides are so helpful when traveling, so I looked for their Ireland book on Amazon right away when we were planning our trip. We had already booked our stay at the Knockranny Lodge in Westport, and were looking for the best restaurants and sightseeing advice. This book has it! Frommer's even includes a tear-out map of Ireland/Dublin so you can put it in your pocket and walk around Dublin without carrying around the heavier Frommer's book. The Dublin street layouts were helpful in finding the Guiness Factory and Thomas Reed's pub.
If you only can bring one..........2007-09-07
I bought two books before my trip, this one and the Eyewitness Guide. I found the Eyewitness Guide the best book to read before I left and on the trip I referred to my Frommer's time and time again. It's just a bigger, more comprehensive book. We traveled over 1800k in the two weeks we were there and visited just about every corner of the country and found the Frommer recommendations helpful and accurate.
Best I've Used.......2007-08-04
Best guide to Ireland I've used so far. I found it was more honest and less PR sounding than many guides, which can sound like they're written by a tourist board. Quality of writing excellent, information exhaustive and comprehensive. Does a good job of listing a range of what's available for differnt budgets too, in terms of hotels and so forth, which I found particularly useful given how expensive visiting Ireland (and Europe in general) has become!
Frommer's Ireland 2007.......2007-06-28
It was all right, but not complete enough. We are going on a tour and some of the hotels are 4 star and there is nothing about them. I felt some of the subjects were overworked and some very limited.
I have travel books by other writers that I prefer.
Frommer's Ireland 2007.......2007-02-15
This purchase arrived in most excellent condition, new, very well bound paperback, very stiff, durable cover, map complete and up to date. I could not ask for a more perfect volume.

Customer Reviews:
A good Lonely Planet substitute.......2007-08-24
I decided to try something else than Lonely Planet for a change and I am happy. It definitely lacks (more) photos which catch the eye in LP! Other than that I have no complaints. I've found some great tips on what to do in NYC and what to skip. The info in the book is in my opinion the same as in the LP editions, you only need to get adjusted to a different layout (info on, say, entrance fees is usually at the end of an entry and not at the begining as in LP).
perfect!.......2007-07-13
If this is your first or your tenth time visiting NY, you'll definitely enjoy this excellent guidebook. An incredible source of information complete and up-to-date. The map is a plus and...it's a very good map too! This is a guidebook with an attitude. A guide written by a new yorker hence not too fond of the sometimes typical tourists attractions. But even so he manage to give full details on every little thing, like it or not. And Amazon was superb once again and I got my guidebook at the speed of light!
Disappointing.......2007-06-06
The most helpful part of the book were the maps and the restaurant information. I was really looking for a Rick Steves type of guidebook for New York. This was not it!
Frommer's is the best at these time and again..........2007-05-21
When I plan on traveling somewhere I haven't been, or somewhere I'm returning to, I am always sure to have the newest version on Frommer's handy. Actually, even the older versions are still a good resource for information, too. I cannot say a bad thing about this guidebook.
Frommer's New York City 2007.......2007-05-12
If you are looking for fancy pics, this is NOt your book. But if you want to have a peek to New Yorkers life, do purchase this book. Plenty of text and good advice beginning with how to get a taxi from where you can find best burgers in the city. If you are flying over Atlantic, you have plenty of time to get through with this book. Pair it with some more traditional tourist guide with pics and you have a working duo. Little minus from the fact that there are some old info, like the book is for 2007 and there's some info that some places will be closed in 2007.

Very Helpful.......2007-10-15
A very helpful, reliable and up-to-date guide book. It's clearly and concisely written with enough information to help you decide what you want to see in the area. It provides maps of major areas for those navigating by car to find tourist sites.
Am I there yet?.......2007-09-08
True to Frommer's style, you feel as though you are almost there. Also included are excellent safety tips, the roads (islands) less traveled, best ways to carry (or rather not carry) money, weblinks, passport information, political concerns and so much more. Great maps, an invaluable aid.
Detailed.......2007-02-16
I am going to Skiathos this summer and I find this book very helpful in making my plans.
Excellent.......2007-02-14
This book gives a regular person the ability to plan a wonderful trip to Greece. Frommer's shows you how to design a vacation that is exactly how you want it to be!
Helpful but a tad boring.......2006-07-26
Don't get me wrong, I read all about the places I wanted to go and noted all the things I wanted to see. I was disappointed to see that there was no information about Evvia, the second largest island.
The prices in the book were right on or a tad higher. I didn't try the restaurants mentioned in Santorini because they were very over priced.
Also, the book could have used more pictures and maps. There was not a map of the Athens metro unfortunately.

A useful travel tool........2007-10-04
My husband and I honeymooned in Oahu. We took this and the Lonely Planet guide to Hawaii. Taking both gave each of us something to read on the plane. I'd take either or both again.
Large and informative.......2007-08-27
Better than Hawaii for Dummies but not as well organized. It's already saved us $80 in helicopter tours from what the cruiseline was charging us. There are great gift tips, too.
Ultimate.......2007-08-23
If you go anywhere, you'll have to get Frommer's books! They say all there is too say. Fantastic and a good vacation tool!
Must have companion for a first timer/newbie to Hawaii.......2007-06-21
I just returned from my first trip to Hawaii (business mostly, but vacation too) and this book was my constant companion. This is an incredibly useful book that described what to do, where to go and how to get around - this book is packed with detailed and useful information. All of the islands are described, and sample itineraries are provided for each of the islands. Like all the Frommer's travel books, this book will give you lots of ideas about what to see and where to eat and where to stay. There were some minor errors in the text (e.g. the bus passes are considerably more expensive than stated in the book), and I didn't always agree with their assessments of restaurants, but these are minor complaints. I wouldn't pay any attention to the negative reviews of this book, if you are a first timer to Hawaii, this book would be a great travelling companion.
Pretty useless.......2007-06-08
An encyclopedia, not a travel guide. I purchased this book, but had to purchase EYEWITNESS TRAVEL GUIDE instead. Very disappointing.

Customer Reviews:
the best I've seen so far.......2007-10-05
The reason I really like this is it gives very specific details on each campground. For example, it will even breakdown by the site number which ones have more trees, which are quieter, and, if there's a stream which sites are closest to the stream. It especially has a good introduction (Pg.1), stating that "life is short, and life is about choices...". It would be better, therefore, to stay at the best campground one can find, rather than simply making do with a run-of-the mill noisy, dumpy rv park. And this book only reviews the cream of the crop rv parks!
excellent.......2007-09-21
I found this book to be chock full of info. It is a little intimidating being it covers all states but very helpful. The enclosed maps makes it easier to locate campgrounds. I find this book helpful, informative and easy to read.
Fabulous for campers and the like.......2006-12-29
Love the book and gave it as a Christmas gift - and he loves it. He is an RVer and I am a tent camper, so it is the best of both worlds. We haven't used it to be able to compare their ratings to our ratings, but just looking through it makes me ready to pack up and get out!! More information on places that I didn't even know existed surrounding me - and more!! Would make an excellent gift.
Army Corps Of Engineers camp ground Modoc, SC.......2006-06-27
Just returned to Florida from three days at Modoc,SC Strom Thurman Lake and Dam. The Campground was everything the guide said it was. We were more than pleased and no complaints. We look forward to utilizing the guide again and hopefully soon...

Customer Reviews:
Great for yourself or as a Gift.......2007-10-14
Gave this as a gift to a friend who traveled Europe for 3 months on a study abroad program with her college. She used it every step of the way. Some people just don't think to buy something like this for traveling because they don't know that it even exists!
Good guide.......2007-05-16
A good travel guide. Read it before you go and it will save you time and money
Boring.......2007-03-08
I know it's difficult to discuss and review all of Europe in one book, but this book was boring. It was easy to read, but not very fun or interesting. It did hit the highlights of the major sights, but it acts more like a reference than an exciting guide.
Research country, cities and important sites.......2006-08-07
Good and useful maps, info on cities and must see sites as well as out of town places to visit if time permits, including how to get there. Good tips on the arts, music, food, transportation. A must read before leaving on the trip.
Thorough, Comprehensive and well-put together.......2005-03-23
From all the travel books out there on Europe this one is not a compilation of mere facts, photos, phone numbers and page-fillers.
What sets Frommer's apart is the information provided and the style in which is presented. You will find lodging options for various budgets, a list of most important sites to see and even suggested ways to spend time in a city if you have only 1 day or as much as 5 days, great places to eat and great places to splurge if you can stretch your dollar. Be aware that this is not a book for the ones on a shoestring budget. Frommer provides a good introduction to Europe without being overloading you with mass amounts of information or pictures, a truly well-balanced book.
When I backpacked 4 months through Europe I had a copy of the Lonely Planet for Europe (a thick and heavy book) because it covered more cities and esoteric towns, a ripped chapters of all the international youth hostals Europe of the countries I visited, and as primary guide for nominal cities and capitals I used Frommers (ripped the book and kept only chapters of countries planning to visit - so I can keep the weight down).
Average customer rating:
- Great overall guide for first-time visitors!
- Map seems incomplete . . . .
- A must have for tourists, but missing some helpful information
- Awesome, a must have...
- Great Planning Book

Customer Reviews:
Great overall guide for first-time visitors!.......2007-07-08
We went to London in January 2007. We bought a few London travel-guide-type books but THIS book was the one we kept turning to during our trip. It was easy to use and comprehensive. The maps of the different parts of the city were an excellent tool. We had never been to London before and with this book we felt a little more like we knew what we were doing! I highly recommend this book!
Map seems incomplete . . . . .......2007-05-29
I was really hoping to use the map included in this book during my stay in London. Unfortunately, the area I was staying (near the Marble Arch) was not included in the map, and therefore, was not as useful as I had hoped.
A must have for tourists, but missing some helpful information.......2007-03-28
We went to London in January 2007. I was so glad we bought this book, as we constantly referred to the maps (in the book and the tear-out pocket map). The lists and descriptions of things to do around London were priceless, as were the suggestions. I relied on the maps of the different parts of the city to find our way around to the lesser known places or when we got a little off course. This was my 3rd time visiting London, so I wanted to see a few things that were off the beaten path and not the typical sites to see. The maps and book helped guide us through all the different parts of the city.
The only thing I wish it had were more hotel reviews and restaurant reviews. Fortunately, with the internet, researching those topics is fairly easy. We had free internet access in the hotel we stayed at in Westminster (the City Inn Westminster, I think it was).
Awesome, a must have..........2007-03-09
This book is very comprehensive, definately a "Must Have" for your First (or any) trip to London. We just got back and could not have seen everything we wanted to, without it. The Suggested Itineraries section is AWESOME. it gives you a 1, 2 or 3 day turn by turn way to walk through the city to make ensure you get to see everything. You can find lots of this information on Frommer's website too for free, but having the book with you is the only way to go.
Great Planning Book.......2006-08-30
This book showed me a great view of what to do and see in London. I have been slowly planning my trip for awhile and this book is the cornerstone to that planning. The only thing I wish though was that they showed more pictures of the things in the book.
