Book Description
Seventeen million people in the United States suffer from clinical depression, and more than fifty million people find themselves in prolonged emotional lows. Now, for every sufferer, there is hope. Not only are effective counseling methods available to treat depression, but also researchers have made great strides in understanding the chemical makeup of the brain. Mood Swings helps readers understand the causes of "bipolar-related disorders"-and find effective ways to treat the problem, recover the joy they've lost, and return to a far more normal, balanced perspective on life. The doctors discuss the extremes and the in-betweens of depression, and show how the highs and lows of uncontrollable mood swings trap the sufferer in a cycle of dysfunction.Mood Swings offers hope to everyone who suffers depression and helps those who love them understand and treat this troubling problem.

mood swings.......2007-10-04
It was a very precise and imforming book for what I needed.Written very good, and understandable.
Didn't expect preaching about God from a psychiatrist........2006-03-08
This book is riddled with references to God, church, and the Bible. That isn't really my cup of tea, and I was very surprised - there wasn't anything about a religious basis on the outside of the book. And I'm not so sure about their claim that all depression is caused by being stuck in a stage of unresolved grief.
Easy to understand.......2004-07-22
I bought this book on an impulse. I have family with ADD and manic depression. I read through the book in 2 days, because it was so easy to read and understand. The author does a lot of explaining that makes sense to me and it fits my family members who suffer from depression. This book turned a light on in my brain as to the "why, who and how comes" of depression. I am buying more of these to give as gifts. I recommend this to those who have loved ones who suffer and for those who suffer the pain of depression. It's not a cure, it's a door being opened.
An Excellent Resource for Professionals and Laymen!.......2004-07-08
This book is written with the Christian in mind. People who struggle with mood swings will find a wealth of information and ideas on how to approach the problem. A terrific book that will make a great addition to any library!
For fundamentalist Christians only!.......2002-10-25
This book was recommended to me by my physician. He wanted me to learn about different types of depression, their causes, and possible treatments. I read the review here and thought, "Well, I can take a little Christianity along with the psychologically helpful information the book will provide."
Boy, was I wrong! This book is a little bit of the basic psychology of depression and a bunch of Christian propaganda along with it...
This book ended up making me more depressed than before I read it. It's depressing to think that the majority of our country is populated with people who share his biased opinions about humanity.

Changed my life. Seriously........2006-01-22
If you feel like your moods change easily (and sometimes self-destructively), the answer may be simpler than you imagined. "Mood Swings" details how we no longer understand the difference between "hunger" (a physical desire) and "appetite" (an emotional desire) and how we abuse ourselves with the way we eat. Even if you THINK you're eating healthy (as I did), you most likely are not.
Book Description
Proud to Be an Okie brings to life the influential country music scene that flourished in and around Los Angeles from the Dust Bowl migration of the 1930s to the early 1970s. The first work to fully illuminate the political and cultural aspects of this intriguing story, the book takes us from Woody Guthrie's radical hillbilly show on Depression-era radio to Merle Haggard's "Okie from Muskogee" in the late 1960s. It explores how these migrant musicians and their audiences came to gain a sense of identity through music and mass media, to embrace the New Deal, and to celebrate African American and Mexican American musical influences before turning toward a more conservative outlook. What emerges is a clear picture of how important Southern California was to country music and how country music helped shape the politics and culture of Southern California and of the nation.

Straight Man.......2007-09-26
5 Majors and 3 marriages...golf and divorce don't mix well, but this bloke is made of sterner stuff.
If you are Australian it is easy to hate Nick Faldo. What he did to our Greg ( or ,to be honest, what Greg did to himself) at Augusta in 1996 is the lowest point in Australian golf in living memory.
Faldo doesn't leave anything out. There are fascinating logs of his famous swing reconstruction, and his Major victories including a forensic account of how he brought our Greg to his knees.
Void of the florid language that blights many a golf autobiography, this guy shoots straight from tee to green.

This is the definitive Benny bio.......2003-07-25
So many people love Benny Goodman's music, but know so little about the man himself. Hopefully, all of you Benny aficionados will take a crack at this excellent, well-written biography. Firestone has done copious amounts of research, interviewed many people close to BG and has produced an absolutely definitive look at the King of Swing. From cradle to grave, this provides readers with information on Benny as a musician and also as a(oftentimes difficult) human being. If you want a detailed musical analysis of Goodman, you will find it here, but there is also a gossip-y element which adds considerable spice.
Firestone illuminates Goodman's jazz beginnings, the early sidemen gigs in the 20's and then the genesis of the Swing band in the mid-30's. It was great to have thumbnail portraits of the great musicians Benny's early bands, they're all here: the frenetic, pot-loving Gene Krupa, the arrogant Harry James, the gentle Teddy Wilson and the phenomenal Lionel Hampton. At the core is Goodman himself, an extremely hard task master, perfectionist and driven man. Firestone details how nit-picky Benny could be, demanding take after take on various album cuts until it all sounded "perfect." Goodman's notorious cheapskate ways are also detailed.
If you love Goodman's music, then treat yourself to discovering what Goodman was like behind the scenes: difficult, ambitious and addicted to prescription pain killers in later years. Yet despite it all, who could swing like this man? No one.
Good Jazz History - Great Biography.......2000-08-31
If you are interested in the history of Jazz, this is one of the books that is essential to your collection. It's not only a great biography about an unusual but talented man, it's the story of a man who stood at the divide between swing and bop, who was a cruel band leader but who nurtured some of the great talents that followed him, who never really mastered bop but whose vision and band format was the foundation that made bop possible.
Goodman was apparently a hard man to like, and this biography squarely faces his difficult personality. He was also a genius, and incredibly hard working. This book does a good job both of telling the story of Goodman's life and the context of his music. There are many compelling anecdotes, and the story is engrossingly told.
The definitive work about Benny.......1999-08-27
This is really the only bio to get of BG. Collier's book "BG And The Swing Era" perpetrates many myths and inaccuracies, mainly because he seems to have this fear about going to primary sources and seems to get a lot of his information off album sleeves and from 12th-hand anecdotes. Firestone's book uncovers some interesting facts, about Benny's flirtation and near-marriage to singer Helen Ward, about the recording of the famous Carnegie Hall concert (contrary to popular myth, there was more than one overhead mike turned on that night, and the band knew they were being recorded) and Benny's near emotional breakdowns in the 50s and 60s and his near total dependence on painkillers and other medications (for a chronic bad back) that also may have altered his personality and brought on some of the bizarre behavior Goodman is infamous for. Briskly-written, filled with surprises, a fascinating read, it should be on the shelf of every jazz fan and big band enthusiast.

Marvelous instruction from a marvelous golfer.......2001-07-05
This instructional from Nick Faldo is one of the most comprehensive golf books around. You can tell that Nick is very confident in what he knows and teaches about the golf swing and how to use the "modern swing" and its ability to hold up under championship conditions. I highly recommend this book, especially to golfers 6'2" and taller.
Faldo can Play and Teach.......2001-03-06
Rare the individual who can both play golf at such an amazing high level and teach it on the simple plain he demonstrates here in this book to us hackers.
There are great gems throughout, but I picked up the best tip on one of my weakest areas, long bunker shots.
The photo sequences are some of the best, so clear and to the point. The final section: Playing the Game, gives some head and strategy advice from one of the coolest, and a two-time Master Champ as well as British Open, etc.
Outstanding Instructional Book For Players At All Levels.......1999-09-06
This book far exceeded my expectations. I have read several dozen golf books, and if I had to recommend one book to a new golfer (or an experienced golfer for that matter) this would be it. This book covers all the fundamentals as well as advanced shotmaking techniques. It's beautifully written, well organized and the photography is first rate. Thanks, Nick...this is a book I'll keep coming back to again and again.
Not only for the advanced . . ........1999-05-22
I am relatively new to golf, having only picked up a club for the first time two years ago. I only truly began playing regularly last fall when my girlfriend gave me a set of irons and this book. Starting from the beginning of Faldo's book, I spent one month working on his drills inside and around my house in my spare time. I broke 100 two months later. I can't begin to explain the genius of this book, other then to say that it offers a stepwise and easy methodology to developing a reliable swing, while also offering excellant advice about bunker play, the short game, and putting. A must read for any new golfer looking to improve and to enjoy the game more.
THE BEST GOLF BOOK FOR AN ADVANCED GOLFER.......1996-12-12
I am an avid golfer, one who has made golf more of a hobby than a sport. I am a 1 handicap, mostly self taught, and I enjoy learning as much as possible about the swing and how to play the game.
There are few golf books which I feel worthy of recommending to anyone. I have not only recommended this book to many of my fellow golf enthusiasts, I gave the book to a young golfer who wanted to understand more the game.
Faldo gives an excellent insight to many of the things he learned from David Leadbetter (another great book). The pictures give a full understanding of what he is trying to explain. Most of the drills are something everyone should try. I think the most unique part of this book is that an advanced golfer can get alot out of the book. Most golf instruction books treat the reader like a tennis player gone awry, rather than a golfer with a desire to learn more.
I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys golf and wants to learn more about the swing, or more about how to think your way around a golf course.
Faldo has proven in his career that he attains perfection and wants to be the best. I would say he took the same attitude toward this book

Book Description
God Delights in You!
Imagine a girl on a swing: leaning backward and easily pumping her legs back and forth, closing her eyes while the wind blows through her hair. She is safe, she is secure, she is free and forgiven. Perhaps you find yourself thinking, I want to feel loved and safe and secure. I want to feel free. I want to turn my face toward heaven and experience God’s smile . Did you know that girl can be you? Because God’s love–a love not based upon your performance, but on Christ’s–proclaims the truth that you are His and He is glad He chose you. This freedom in Christ is meant to become a part of you, something you relish every day. It’s like learning how to swing: it can’t ever be unlearned. So climb on…your time to soar has arrived!
Who Is that Girl on a Swing?
She’s free.
She’s safe.
She’s secure.
She’s forgiven.
She’s happy.
She’s a child of God.
And so are you.
With warm understanding, refreshing humor, and striking biblical honesty, Nancy Kennedy reflects on the ways women often keep themselves from enjoying the freedom that’s already theirs. Because not only do you belong to God, He is glad He chose you. Not only does He love you unconditionally, He likes you! And not only does He lavish you with grace, He smiles upon you.
Once you learn how to swing, you can’t un-learn it. Once you know true freedom in Christ, you can’t un-know it. It’s yours for good (and it’s a lot fun). So climb on…it’s time to soar!

Story Behind the Book
The Story Behind the Book
“Girl on a Swing came from a greeting card image where a young girl is soaring on a swing. She’s free and at peace, with herself and her surroundings. As I studied that image I came to realize that the girl is me–because in Christ I am free and at rest. God smiles on His own, and I am at peace. But my experience as a speaker at women’s retreats has shown me that many women have difficulty believing that for themselves. This book will help them grasp the truth.” –Nancy Kennedy

It's so nice to know all of the commonalities that we have as Christian women. Nancy hits all the points and does it with humor. She reminds us that we make Jesus smile everyday and that is a refreshing thought to keep in mind! I love it!

Funny look at golfing. One has to have a sense of humor to
play the game anyway and these cartoons show the humorous
truisms associated with the "game."
Great Little Golf Book.......2005-06-05
This is a great little golf book with a great group of golf cartoons covering just about every aspect of the game. I produce a newsletter for our local club and I intend to use some of the material in the book in our monthly publication. Neat book and really good price.
Golf Cartoons Really Hit Home.......2005-06-04
This book "Just Fore Laughs" is filled with delightful cartoons about the world of golf. I think everybody that plays the game of golf will find him/her self in one or more sections of the book. The quotations that go with cartoons are cute and appropriate for the cartoon ... for example, the section on Seniors shows Beetle Bailey's General Halftrack leaping out of bed and proclaiming that he feels young and strong and that nothing will stop him from succeeding on this day while his wife stays in bed and says "You're playing golf, right?" The quotation accompanying the cartoon is by Michael de Montaigne and says "Let us take care that age does not make more wrinkles on our spirit than on our face." Another cartoon is Jeff MacNelly's Shoe hitting his ball into a water hazard while his fiend says his swing is instant bogey ... just add water. The accompanying quotation is from Henry Wassworth Longfellow .. "From the waterfall he named her, Minnehaha, Laughing Water." This is a gift type book and it's pretty thick for its' type with more that 150 pages and a lot or golf cartoons. It's priced very well at $14.95 so it makes a great gift for anybody that plays golf and realizes how absurd the game can be sometimes.
