Excellent Guide.......2006-06-09
The Frommer's Scandinavia Guide is fantastic. I just returned from a trip to Oslo, Copenhagen and Stockholm. The guide proved to be invaluable when planning our activities in each city. The maps were excellent, giving the reader a great layout of the cities. I recommend that you follow the suggested itineraries that the guide presents for each city. The itineraries cover all major sights. The suggested side trips from each major city are also very good. If you have the time, visit Helsingor, Denmark. Kroneborg Slot (Hamlet's castle) is fantastic. The only failing of this guide: lackluster clubs/bars suggestions. I visited two of their recommended clubs, and found them to be less than exciting. It is better to ask for recommendations at the front desk of your hotel for "after dark" activities or any young waitress or waiter at a local restaurant. However, overall it is an excellent guide.

Customer Reviews:
this book is toilet paper.......2007-09-20
My god this book was awful. This was my first (and last) purchase of a Frommer's guide. I initially bought it based solely on the fact that it was the most recently published guide for Norway among all of the available guides at the time. Much of the information was embarrasingly wrong. If you are a member of AARP, you may enjoy the suggestions in this book. The worst part was the maps. Would it kill them to put all the information such as hotels, restaurants, shopping and entertainment on the SAME map instead of making me jump back and forth between several maps? The separation of graphic information made it frustratingly difficult to plan out daily itineraries. This book found better use as toilet paper. I ended up tossing the Frommer's guide on day 2 of my trip and I purchased a Lonely Planet and Rough Guide, something I should've done from the get go.
Great guide for Norway.......2007-08-14
I like this and and the Rough guide best for Norway. They both have good maps and good information on a lot of the places you would like to visit and good info on the best tours. You do have to be careful that either a tour hasn't been cancelled or the time has changed since the book was written. We found that in Bergen. I thought both the Rough Guide Norway and Frommer's had much more specific info on tours and things to do than the Fodor's and Lonely Planet books do. I generally like Rick Steve's guides but his Scandinavia guide is not complete enough unless you are doing his intinerary. His book does have a lot on Oslo and Bergen. But, for example, it has nothing on Alesund (pronounced Oh-le-sund) which is a great coastal town to visit. And in general it has limited info on the coastal towns, which are pretty cool. Just as an aside, I really liked the Geiranger fjord. Lysefjord was neat with all its cliffs (and goats)but the Geiranger fjord is just beautiful and there are many excursions from the little town of Geiranger with fabulous views from above. Norway is a great place to visit. Most people speak English (though not all). In my mind it is still not quite as spectacular as Alaska but it is really beautiful. The views from the windy, hillside, hairpin-turn roads are breathtaking. Also, I found the views from a car or bus through the country better than the famous railroad from Flam to Myrdal. The views from the train were great but it moves so fast and you go through so many tunnels that it was hard to really appreciate the spectacular views.
Great Advice for Travel in Norway.......2007-02-22
Frommer's certainly gives a great deal of very specific travel information. Lots of "Best Finds", &"Best Values". The guide provides great ideas on how to see specific cities, and attractions. I find that it works well in conjuncion with other travel guides that provide more visuals. In fact that is the only challenge with Frommers - limited pictures, and overall maps. But how many needs can one book meet? Frommers meets most of them.
I would highly recommend this guide.
A perfect guide to plan ahead and take along.......2006-06-21
This guide is great for reading ahead and taking along. This guide contains a fair amount of in depth information about the customs, practices, manners, etc. of the country and can be read while in the plane or a few days ahead. The guide also contains a lot of detail about what to do, where to go, and how much it costs to do if you are in certain cities for a day or a few days. I like the fact that they have current hotel and restaurant reviews as well as maps indicating where they are. This allows for being able to plan financially ahead as well. I have visited Norway several times and I have purchased updated Frommer's Guides every time because is well worth it. If you want pictures, this is not the book. If you want useful information in an easy to find format this is the book for you.
DON'T BUY THIS IF:.......2006-03-28
If you expect any pictures to give you a feel for the place, then don't buy this book. The picture on the cover is the only thing you'll get.
Where I'm coming from: I don't travel to shop, eat, meet the locals or absorb new culture: I go to see beautiful man-made and natural wonders. An hour spent at a sidewalk cafe absorbing the "atmosphere" is an hour that could be spent seeing more of a castle, cathedral, museum, mountain, lake etc.
Perhaps if you already know what you want to see, what's worth seeing in Norway, then the information in the book might be useful. But if you've never been to the place before, BUY THE EYEWITNESS SERIES books, they have pictures and 3D perspective drawings of specific neighborhoods give a nice feel for what one might want to see.

Customer Reviews:
Valuable Tourist Guide, but not completely reliable.......2005-09-07
I've been waffling over whether or not to review Frommer's Sweden (4th edition; April 2005), since I didn't actually go everywhere in Sweden that Frommer covered. But I feel compelled to point out some of the shortcomings I experienced in this book. First, while I understand that information is subject to rapid change, we should assume some of it remains stable: like the location of hotels. After exiting the tunnelbana, we followed Frommer's map to find our hotel. I became alarmed when we passed another hotel which, according to Frommer's map, should not have been anywhere near where it was. But it did prepare me to reach the x marking our spot to find out that our hotel was nowhere to be found. Fortunately I had the street address on our confirmation, because the hotel turned out to be in the opposite direction and less than a block away from our arrival point. Nor was this the book's only failing...and I might not have known that if we were not in Sweden visiting a native. The book's guide to customs on tipping was incorrect. The number they provide for emergencies in "Fast Facts: Sweden" (p. 51) (equivalent to 911 in the US) has been out of date since 1996. (Frommers does, oddly, give the correct number in some other sections.) The Stockholm Waterfestival they list for August has not been held since, as near as I can determine, the late 90s.
I don't mean to suggest the book is worthless. We did get a lot of value out of it, in both Stockholm and Visby. But I want to strongly caution those who wish to use this book to be prepared to adjust if they encounter these errors or others of which I am unaware. And, in an emergency, dial 112.
Very Complete Guide.......2000-10-12
It's a very complete guid, with detailed information about the major cities in sweden. It allows you to plan your trip in advance, regarding hotel, restaurants, travel tips, transportation. It woth every penny that you spent on it...

Nifty little guide.......2006-07-14
This was very helpful in providing a brief overview of the cities I was visiting. However, I like pictures so I can cross reference any of the historical sites I'm seeing.
Great book!.......2002-02-08
I found it to be a wealth of information before my trip and during.
Frommer's Denmark.......2001-07-28
Imagine moving to Denmark as a U.S. citizen and working for a Fortune 500 Firm. Now think of bringing your family here for a week of house hunting and 2 months of summer, while you complete your 9 month assignment. Now begin your research on books regarding Denmark. "Ah Frommer's has a new first edition!" "Okay I'll purchase it." The errors our family noted were- 1)on a cold day in February my daughter (14) and I walked to the Carlsburg Brewery (it was about 1 mile from our Radisson SAS Hotel in Fedricksburg) because it was open on Monday while the museums were closed (We'll make good use of our 9 day initial visit.) Frommer's was wrong, it is not open on Mondays. 2)Hey we are going to live in Denmark for the summer, let's plan on venturing to the Legoland, since we had children ages 4, 11 & 14 to entertain. Time to make the overnight accomodations for our visit to Legoland; okay, let's pull out the Frommer's. Read about Legoland, then contact the Legoland Hotel on site (the only hotel listed by Frommer's for the town of Billund). When we contacted the phone number listed for Legoland we reached not the Legoland Hotel but a travel agency! Hotel Legoland had no rooms available for the July dates we needed, however, they recommended a nearby hotel called Hotel Propellen. It turned out to be the nicest family suite our family has ever encountered. (2 large rooms (a bath with a 7ft. tub, 8ft. double sink, and a separate shower; bar; deck with wooden patio furniture). The hotel offered a kidde pool, large pool, sauna, tanning beds, dining rooms, outside dining, heart shaped whirlpools, exercise room, parking lot, walking trails, a playground for big kids and little kids (2)- with a large trampoline which was low lying, and an enormous breakfast buffet (with a child's play area in the breakfast area)that was included in our room price . This hotel was only 500m (a 3-5 minute walk to the Legoland entrance). Why hadn't Frommer's recommended it and why did they only list one Hotel for a resort that is as hugely attended as Disney World, Disney Land, and Sea World! 3)There was another error in Frommer's recommendatons but I forget what it was. I veiwed the rest of their information with caution and wondered what else might have been in error if they couldn't get these major attractions correct. The Danes are great with promoting their towns' and cities' attractions on colorful literature. The City of Copenhagen even promotes "Copenhagen This Week" complete with events, times and phone numbers. I found this free information more valuable and a greater breath of knowledge than "Frommer's Denmark". July 2001
Good for Trip Tips.......2000-07-06
It's a good guide for you that want some tips on what to see and visit. It could have more hotel options (including the inexpensive...)

Customer Reviews:
Seemingly good book--but where's Finland?.......2002-01-22
As always, Frommer's gives very informative, accurate and helpful travel information in all the domains that their guides cover. But this seems to be precisely the problem in this case: the domains are incomplete! The book has good information for the various regions of Norway, Sweden and Denmark, and despite a lengthy section on planning a trip to Finland (a corresponding section of which appears for the other countries as well), the only thing covered in Finland is Helsinki! This is additionally frustrating, as in the Finland planning section, many intriguing places are mentioned, but how can I plan to see them if they are then given no coverage?
Hence, if you're planning a trip to Denmark, Sweden and/or Norway, this book can't be beat, but if you're interested in Finalnd as well, better try another guidebook.
A concise and competent guide........2000-10-10
Frommers guide to Scandanavia was of great help to me on a trip to Denmark. I wanted to stay in Copenhagen, visit Elsinore, the Vikingship museam at Roskilde, see the sights in Copenhagen itself etc. I didn't get lost, I made all my journeys by train, I found good value clean accomodation with great breakfasts. I was able to find reasonable restaurants with excellent food on offer, and all of it came out of the Frommers guide. I got advice I needed on issues such as tipping, and I got explanations for what the food on the menu's was, and what was good to eat in Denmark. All in all I found this to be an excellent guide and I would heartily recommend both Frommers and Denmark to any traveller. Skol!

Customer Reviews:
Good info.......2007-07-04
Should have spent more time reading the book before the trip. Some helpful preparation tips. Had some great info and descriptions. The book is separated into geographic regions. If you are headed to a small town (as we were) it is more difficult to figure out which part of the book to refer to. Great for bigger cities and tourist destinations.
Book Review.......2006-07-14
Another great book with up to date and pertinent travel information that I just recently used
Don't waste your money.......2005-02-28
This was one of the worst travel guides I have ever purchases. I though so much of this book I placed it where it belongs, in the trash can. If you want a real travel guide purchase DK eyewitness travel guides.
Excellent information on summer activities re:opera.......1999-02-15
My daughter will be in Gratz,Austria for 6 weeks this summer at the AIMS School for opera. Since I will be visiting I decided to buy your guide to Austria. It has everything you could want to know and more. We lived in Europe for 3 years and it is exciting to go back. The "getting around" section is great as is the information on Music (Mozart etc). I was really excited about the summer music festival in Salzburg. I bought your book on Panama when I visited and it certainly made for a much easier and more interesting trip with your guide. The AIMS school is something your future readers may be interested in-it is a summer program for singers on the road to a career and they have programs on weekends throughout summer. Thank you.
